IT was supposed to get easier for punters in the World Cup but Sunday's two games saw the favourites slip up.
Croatia got out of jail by dumping Denmark on penalties but there was no salvation for Spain who were booted out by hosts Russia.
The Croats under-performed and were lucky to survive but Spain probably got what they deserved as they created little in the way of chances despite having 79 per cent possession.
Croatia were my dark horses for the tournament so I'm pleased they qualified but they downed all of my bets on Sunday.
Up next it's Brazil v Mexico and Belgium v Japan and I'm confident about both favourites – especially Belgium. I've posted a preview of both games and there also previews from HullShaker and Voice of Value.
Well done to all the winners on Sunday and that's four out four for both to score in the last-16 games – will there be another two on Monday?

The accumulator total should be -12.5 Mrfixit because of the fivefold and France, Croatia double.

    Russia v Spain under 3.5 offsides @ 1.95.
    £15. Won

Denmark v Croatia, same bet at 4/6. Won

    £5 double. Wins.

Yet another winning day. I’m guessing noone is following but one losing day in the entire world cup… You should be.

Bookies got England 6-1 to win world cup and Uruguay 14-1.
Uruguay won all 4 conceding 1 goal.
England only beaten Tunisia and the dog and duck and conceded in all 3 games.
Maybe it’s the draw but odds seem odd to me.

Today I fancy a couple of 2-0 wins for Brazil and belguim with both leading at half time.
Mexico always go out at this stage and Brazil won’t go gung ho and leave themselves open to counter attacks. Once Brazil score I see Mexico struggling to force the game.

Its a quirk that Japan are here, a 3rd minute red card v Colombia and that farcical end to the Poland match left a sour taste in my mouth and I hope belguim Muller them.
Only chance Japan have is extra time and pens as the European teams seem to tread water late in games due to the heat, but hopefully belguim won’t let that happen.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

England are short because it’s England fans backing with mostly English-based bookies.
The weight of money means they are shorter thane they should be – same with the game against Colombia.
Prices should be closer to 6-4 each of two.

      Wimbledon tips for interest.
donna vekic v Sloane stephens over 2.5 sets 6-4 NAP
Cameron Norrie to beat alios bedene 17-10 NB

      treble
      bedene v Norrie over 3.5 sets 1-2.
      monfils v gasquet over 3.5 sets 1-2.
      wawrinka v dimitrov over 3.5 sets 8-11.

      decent games today
monfils v gasquet French battle of has beens, or almost has beens you might say, should be an entertaining game anyhow.
wawrinka coming back from a long injury lay off but unlike murray , he is giving it a go, but cant see him beating dimitrov due to his lay off.
I hope Norrie beats up bedene.
bedene left Slovenia for convenience to become british and play davis cup, but that fell through so he scuttled back to his country of birth.
im hoping john b tips Norrie as he has recently to make me feel more confident.

ARE WE GETTING A WIMBLEDON THREAD THIS YEAR MR F ??.

as you are following Croatia in world cup mr fixit, how about Croatia and maran cilic to win their titles on the same day 2 weeks today ?? Croatia 13-2 and cilic 7-1.
Croatia looked paralysed with fear yesterday, they need to shake that off quick if they are to even beat Russia..

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

On yesterday’s display Croatia can’t win it – I see Johnb has tipped Cilic each way.
Been focused on World Cup but if I get time in the morning will start a Wimbledon thread.

Morning all, well done all winners yesterday ?, with mrf tonite Lukaku atgs. GL ?

  6. chris guy 6 years ago

Voice of value I like the look of his bets on the Brazil game.

I’ve gone for Neymar to score and be booked at 9/1 with Bet365 which i think is a decent price. Skybet and 888sport have the same bet priced up at 13/2. Interesting 888sport offer 7/1 for Neymar to score and be sent off. That’s only half a point of a difference. They obviously think there’s a chance he’ll be sent off. Anyway I checked the same bet with Bet365 and got 50/1 so stuck £10 on that too.

I stuck large bets on Pepe and Ramos to be booked in their last 2 matches which didn’t happen so hoping to recover something here.

On a none related footie aspect:

    Chris Froome.

I know there’s some on here who thinks he’s cheated over his inhaler use but today he has been cleared completely by the sports governing body and the world anti-doping people. I was quite disappointed that former France cycling legend Bernhard Hinault was one of the first to jump on the anti-Froome bandwagon and with any luck over this races 23 days that start I think on the 6th, Froome will join him along with 4 others to of won the race 5 times.

After being a bit off the pace – possibly to a pre-race crash and another in the early stages of the Giro D’Italia, It looked like Simon Yates was gonna steal the glory going into the final week with Froome sitting in 3rd or 4th and a good 3.5 mins down. Froome blew the field apart with a classy ascent/descent on one of the races most brutal climbs. The bookies had Froome so out of sorts that at one point I saw him at around 33/1 on the Sunday to win. The rest day came Monday and it all happened on the Tuesday. That left just 4 days of racing and covering breakaways to claim the spoils. Judging by how far down the field finished on that stage, anyone would of thought that someone had sawn Yates legs off – he fell to pieces.
He’s now got his 3x back to back grand tour titles and at around 14/5 with most bookies to win LeTour, I think its a gimme.

I’ve not had a good look recently at the course, the organisers have been messing with the format/climbs/solo sprint stages for 3 or 4 years now, trying to marry up a winnable race for possibly Quintana, but team Sky have world class Super Domestiques and superb Domestiques to get Froome his 5th Yellow Jersey.
The year Wiggins won ( and got knighted ), Froome was a class above Wiggins, faster, hungrier and never ran on empty, team orders meant Froome had to help Wiggins go for the title and he stuck to it. When Wiggins stepped back ( possibly down to his own doping allegations ), The GC rider the following year went to Froome and he won. The next year, he was out through illness before the race started and if he wins this year, it will be his 4th Le Tour win on the bounce and 4th Grand Tour race on the bounce.

Now that he’s been cleared to race, that 14/5 isn’t gonna last forever.

back to football, i’m gonna have a £5 treble on Brazil win to nil, Belgium -1, England -1, not checked prices but i’m passing by the shop anyway. Good luck folks.

    • old al 6 years ago

Only 6 or maybe 7 mountain stages one of which is only 65km long with what they are calling a formula 1 start (?), a day over cobbles that always sorts the men from the boys the rest look to be for the sprinters or Sagan. Team time trial which Sky and BMC (Richie Porte) should compete for and next to last stage is a bit of a hilly time trial. Not the ideal for Froome but sure to be up there. You’re right Nathan, the tour almost made a course for Wiggin to win to attract the British audience, Froomes job was to get him round it, it took a few goes but Wiggins managed it at the third attempt ( two time trial of which Wiggins was miles ahead of the field). He (Froome) certain would have won it if he hadn’t been a domestique. A word of caution – no rider has won the tour after taking part in the Giro let alone after winning it, which doesn’t mean froome won’t!

    • nathanufton 6 years ago

I had a bit of a moan at Ladbrokes 2 hrs ago, after Froome was cleared to race, his price to win dropped significantly. Shop price was 13/8. Just looked on oddschecker, best you can get is 2/1. It was 14/5 yesterday.

Agree about Sagan ( if he doesn’t elbow Cavendish in the face and get a ban ), Damoulin should be racing for GC, Quintano should finish around 4th/5th, One of the Yates twins should get the young rider jersey but will have to pace themselves after the collapse in the Giro D’Italia on the last Tuesday. One of the Yates ( Simon I think ) is marginally better than Adam but I am not sure if either competed or avoided the criterium du dauphine 2018 like Froome did.
Sky’s Geraint Thomas ( super domestique ) won the Criterium last month. He’s another rider capable of pushing for a top 3-6th in the general classification.

@old-al last years Tour only had a few ” hills ” and the TT’s we’re shortened and at the start and end of the tour.

I have no idea how team Sky do it but they always put down a game-plan in place no matter how that race is set up and just seem to find a winning formulae.
I used to admire Bernhard Hinault as a kid, instead of him sitting on the fence and letting the whole “Inhaler-gate” pan out, he was the first high profile former Cyclist to point fingers at Froome. I’d put my shirt on it that if his blood samples were tested now, Hinault would probably fail it along with many others. ( Testing is much more tighter now, you can’t even use a Vicks nasal inhaler ).

Froome has crashed at speed on the Tour, brought off his bike by the Camera bike, spat at, slapped by spectators, had piss thrown in his face and the French STILL can’t process the fact that we’ve finally found our niche’ in a sport and dominated it for 10 years track and road. Most French riders today were not even born until after the last time a French rider rode down the Champs Elysse with champagne in hand. The risks Froome took I think on stage 16 last year was insane, there were 15 or so riders who crested with him, Quintano took a drink and Froome was already pulling a gap. Quintano had no domestiques around him and of the 15 or so guys, there was only Quintano that was racing Froome for GC, therefore nobody helped Quintano to reel Froome in. Whenever Froome needs to formulate something, his wingmen are there ready. I think this is a massive factor in why Sky are so dominant, teams have a decent guy going for the GC but not enough quality in the ranks to assist the GC riders.

I’d like to see Froome have a crash free tour for once, i’m convinced he’ll grab the Yellow jersey. I guess we”ll know by the end of July.

    • old al 6 years ago

I’d love to see Froome dominate again and the likelihood is high as he is the best rider in the best team ( agree with all the above) but from a betting point of view at 6/4 there are a few too many ifs and buts for me. His wingman Geraint Thomas seems a little accident prone, someone in the crowds does something really stupid, my Giro point, the cobbles (he broke his wrist last on the cobbles last time and had to retire a couple of days later – the same race Contador broke his leg then did another 50km uphill before he retired, Neymar hang your head!) etc. I’ll be looking each way at home guy Bardet @ 16/1 with AG2R who tend to throw a lot at the tour, as for the rest, Richie Porte – not at 4/1, Movie star have too many stars Valverde will do his own thing and can we expect Mikel Landa to pull Quintana over the mountains having done the same for Froome last year? My mate who was cycling in France for a few years likes Niboli @ 12/1 who is in a newly monied Bahrain team but I think he’s more of a stage winner. Best bet of all is to get Mr Orange’s opinion.

IMO I think Columbia are being under estimated. At nearly 3/1 i’ll be having some of that. England have beaten, Tunisia & Panama, conceding in both games, and lost to Belgium.

    • nathanufton 6 years ago

I think England know they have the easiest of the two routes to the semi/final, Kane is hitting form and there are some big performances coming from 3 or 4 others. I know we have to have 8 or 9 players putting in very solid performances but we did take our foot off the gas and rest players against Belgium which was smart thinking.

England -1 h/c has every chance of landing. Crappy shop price at Ladcrooks was 7/2. I’m sure there are better prices out there.

  16. alex_mufc83 6 years ago

I agree that Colombia are being underestimated, for me it’s a 50/50 game. Especially given how the knock out games have gone so far

I reckon Hafnafjodur vs. St Jarnan could see goals.

St. Jarnan is in good goalscoring form, but Hafnafjodur has been kind of a bogey place for them in the past. The hosts might steal a win, but not without getting some grease on the hands…

  44. xhaka khan 6 years ago

    Wow and well done Kelly!!

    The free offside money continues.

“Both games to go under 3.5 offsides. Evens and 4/5. £20 each and a £6 barney rubble”

Winner, winner and the barney rubble comes in too. 2 offsides in each.

Same again tomorrow for free bunse ?

Nice one – pity the winner wasn’t from Lukaku though.

    • dc john boy 6 years ago

Nice one hull, jumped on this after ma Brazil goal bet went down, made me work for it tho ?

    • HullShaker 6 years ago

Left it late alright – others were way off and fair play Japan…only watched 2nd half but made Belgium look bang average and closed everything down before falling apart at the end ?

  46. dc john boy 6 years ago

All bets down today, a goal short in Brazil game & no hazard goal

What a second half of football tho. Feel sorry for japan but Belgium just wow, that winning goal just brilliant

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Happy for my double but credit to Japan who were superb.

    • HullShaker 6 years ago

Nice work on the double Mr F ?

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Good work Hull, dont know why you fancied Lukaku so much he wouldn’t get in the Liverpool,he has to be one of the biggest flops ever and he gets away with it.

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

Brilliant dummy for the chadli goal in fairness

    • maccathered 6 years ago

He would of got a shout from Chadli for that dummy so Lukaku can’t take the credit,he missed great opportunities that world class strikers would score especially at this level,no way is Lukaku world class in any shape or form.Absolute rubbish and he was the same at Everton,he does not score in big games.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Fellaini caused a few problems and he’s not world class either.

    • HullShaker 6 years ago

Because Japan cannot cope with set pieces as proven in this game and before…say what you like about Luakaku as an in-play footballer but he is a nightmare to defend against in the box.

It didn’t pay off anyhow like you say!

Onto England tomorrow and will be great to see folks thoughts – can’t see a clean sheet for either side ?

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

I like btts first half Hull. 11/2 seems generous. I’ve used my free b365 bet on it

    • maccathered 6 years ago

I was on the double Mr f well done,i didn’t post as i didn’t think things would be straightforward and proved correct,i bet bookies were licking their lips at Japan 2-0 up haha they would have taken millions on that double.

    • HullShaker 6 years ago

Just writing up my thoughts now and both teams scoring looks good…hope they come in 1st half for thee xhaka sir ?

  49. xhaka khan 6 years ago

The basis of my offside bets showed up today. Linesmen have been told to keep their flag down on tight calls. There were 3 or 4 where that played to our advantage and but for that it would have been a loss.

    England v Colombia under 3.5, 10/11, bet365. £20

Sweden v Switzerland £10 @4/9 b365 (6/5 for under 2.5 is available at 888 but that’s tight and it includes extra time, have put £5 on)

£10 on the barney. Alternatively just back the England game and the double.

  50. xhaka khan 6 years ago

England game is 6/5 @888 but that includes extra time.

  51. xhaka khan 6 years ago

For those that love a corners bet, England are 4/6 to take the most corners. Here’s the reason why when you look at the last 10 England games :

    England 7 vs Belgium 2
    England 3 vs Panama 2
    England 7 vs Tunisia 2
England 9 vs Costa Rica 1
    England 7 vs Nigeria 3
    England 8 vs Italy 3
    England 4 v Netherlands 3
    England 0 vs Brazil 2
    England 6 vs Germany 5
    England 10 vs Lithuania 3

    LOST
Belgium decided to only turn up for last 30 minutes….piss poor, they had quality in their team to wipe the floor with an average Japan team but hey-ho…managed to recoup inplay on corners, but still disappointing, apologies anyone that followed…?

Will pop this one up now as early away in the morning and not back until KO time…

    COLOMBIA VS. ENGLAND (1900 KO):

Here we go again as The Three Lions enter the gladitorial arena that is the knockout stages of a World Cup and, as the collective 25 million Englishmen watching begin to wheeze, sweat and fart like Craneguy hobbling past his local gym, the weight of the nation rests on Southgate’s unassuming squad.

I was quick to pan Southgate and England’s chances prior to the start of the tournament and I’m not too proud to see I got a few things wrong; the manager has bizarrely hit the right chord with his approach, presence and manner and the players and media for once seem united.

Apologies over and a reality check though. We know nothing about the genuine resilience of this England side – the Belgium game taught us (pardon the pun) sweet FA; the Tunisian game was a very close call and the Panama game was a freak where decisions went our way against a woefully inadequate side.

So really, it’s almost the first game again – a game where England WILL be tested by a Colombian side who oughtn’t to be underestimated whether Rodriguez plays or not…the South American’s have plenty of strength all over the pitch and are taking shape nicely after a nightmare start against a (now proven) Japanese outfit.

Lots of folk out there tipping the 0-0 within 90 minutes but whilst England’s pressing wingplay and fast-feet are a very real threat, so to is that Laurel and Hardy music that can always be heard cranking up when the English back four and keeper are put under any form of pressure…for anyone who still fancies a goalless encounter, here’s a few stats from Opta to factor in:

    – England have scored in 17 of their last 18 World Cup KO games.

    – Colombia have never seen a 0-0 in 21 World Cup games.

-Colombia have scored in each of their last 8 World Cup games.

This is going to be a hard-fought encounter between two sides who can both produce touches of magic and press like hell – England in particular have shown again and again their persistence down the flanks and my English bet ‘de rigeur’ of team corners has stood me in good stead in recent months…it may just be one of the ways forward again tomorrow at a price that’s more than fair:

    Three bets to consider:

    ENGLAND OVER 5.5 CORNERS…EVENS
    ????
    (Bet365)

    BTTS…5/4
    ???
    (10 Bet)

    Best of luck ?
