RANGERS and Burnley progressed to the Europa League play-off stage but it was a bad night for Hibs who crashed to a heavy defeat in Norway.

Results weren't too bad with Zenit for example rewarding goals backers with an 8-1 win against Dinamo Minsk after extra time to overcome a 4-0 first-leg deficit. They'll face Molde now and that's probably a lucky escape for Hibs – although I'm sure Johnb would have tipped his men to win. Remember he's a fan and often bets with his heart so don't be too hard on him.

Both my trebles were beaten by one goal – Torpedo Kutaisi failing to score and Braga conceding a late equaliser to exit to Zorya. If I hadn't been working I'd have advised cover on the Top Treble so I hope anyone who backed it did so.

At this time of the week my focus is on the weekend card but I've picked out a treble and will add reasoning later if I get time. I'm on Swansea +1, Lyon to win and Anderlecht -1 Asian at home to Mouscron.

But we have Greg and others who will do so with French Ligue 2 his focus.

La Liga kicks off with Patrick Roberts' new club Girona hosting Real Valladolid and later Real Betis tackle Levante while in the French top flight Lyon travel to Reims.

In the Championship it's Birmingham v Swansea and there is a match preview on the site. Swansea have started well and I fancy them to win but at worst pick up a point. In League Two Notts County are at home to Yeovil.

Well done to all the winners last night – haven't been able to follow them all as it was a busy night on the Record.

3pts Top Treble

  • Swansea +1
  • Lyon (7.30pm)
  • Anderlecht -1AH
  • (2-1, bet365)

One of the many fans in Maribor tonight and I must admit Rangers were outstanding tonight, defensively sound, looked threathning on the break but a huge shoutout must be made to Allan McGregor tonight, easily the best goalkeeper in Scotland

    • fraser51 6 years ago

      Safe journey home mate

Very pleasing professional performance, didn’t look under any real threat but when needed nothing was going past McGregor.

Spine of the team is solid, just hoping too many games doesn’t catch up with us, need another couple of players in to boost the squad if we want to compete in europe and push Celtic.

There is something special brewing under Gerrard.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

I have been impressed with Gerrard and how Rangers have become tough to beat, his experience of European football has helped him no end and i would say he’s better suited to the European game than his foe Brendan Rodgers.A good European run would boost Rangers finances no end,3 million just to make the group stages,£270,000 per win and £190,000 per draw.Hope they make it.

      Thanks @fraser51

McGregor made 3 great saves including the penalty and Rangers rarely looked in trouble.
Interesting tie now against Ufa but Rangers should get through.

1-0 at H/T but 2nd half goals are never far away in Iceland…final score 3-2 ??

    MÍDAS VS. ÚLFARNIR (2130 KO):

This one really catches my eye and is a match that hails from Group B of the Icelandic 4 Deild –
I’m hoping everything the players touch turn to goals!

Midas may have had a mixed start but I reckon they’ll be too much for an Ulfarnir side propping up the Group table with just one win in twelve; that one and only win was their opener and they have gone on to draw two and lose 9 of their subsequent fixtures this campaign.

The hosts have had a few batterings themselves but have managed to win their last two games albeit against SR and Hordur – the team sitting a respective 2nd and 3rd bottom.

What is a common denominator is the preponderence for goals in both sides matches – here’s a rundown of the most recent 10 league games for both:

    H: 7-7-8-1-6-6-4-2-6-6

    A: 3-6-0-4-5-7-4-1-6

With the most recent H2H in June seeing Midas grab a 0-4 away victory, I can’t help but think the hosts may be able to add that goal-den touch to a great game:

  12. cockerspaniel 6 years ago

I don`t normally do the sky price boost – but 6/1 for Spurs/Everton/Leicester to win looks good to me.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Looks good cocker,Everton should beat a toothless Southampton side,Spurs should be able to see off Fulham and Leicester with Vardy back should be to good for Wolves.

    • derekj1978 6 years ago

Agree only one that would worry me is the Leicester / wolves but if pushed I’d say home win so decent value that

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Leicester were pretty impressive v Man Utd and losing to them didn’t reflect their performance,Wolves were diabolical v Everton who were reduced to ten men, even so Everton still dominated the game whilst collapsing near the end.Wolves have a lot to learn if they want to survive this league and a trip to Leicester won’t be easy especially with Vardy starting who can and probably will make the Wolves defence rock.

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

Guys be careful to check starting lineups first, for Everton Richarlison has picked up a calf injury and isn’t yet confirmed. He scored both their goals and will be a big loss if he doesn’ t play which could be a coupon buster

    • cockerspaniel 6 years ago

You have convinced me macca am all over it. I here what you are saying alex but with macca tipping Everton . It`s got to be done.

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

Fair enough, your call cocker. I’m not saying it won’t come in, I’d agree it looks a good treble if everyone was fit. Just giving a heads up to tread carefully before staking on it ??

    • maccathered 6 years ago

I took Everton knowing Richarlison was out,Everton should still have to much for Southampton.

    Livingston v Motherwell

On paper well look to have started poorly but had a decent league cup campaign without being outstanding , lost at Hibs (had key men out) then battered Hamilton but ultimately lost 1-0.

The steelmen have a business plan that is one decent cup run (reached both finals last year) and a slightly below mid table finish , I feel they will get both , the squad is decent and despite losing Kipre have brought in Aldred who was on at well last season and glad to have him back as a replacement. Should also have a decent traveling support and A good record over the years at livi. Hoping Danny Johnston gets a start up front because salmon and main haven’t worked together yet and Johnston comes with a Lewis Moult type pedigree scoring lots in the national league. Motherwell to come out on top.

    Motherwell 6/4 (various)
Danny Johnston to score (check teams) 2/1

    New Eerste Divisie season!
First game week last season saw 9/10 overs (and a 2-0), season before saw 6/10 – 9/10 were over 1.5 MGS – so will try for more goals again at decent odds for this league early in the season
    All Eerste Divisie > 1.5 MGS 3/1
1 Asian FH Goal Line Masstricht, Roda, PSV 2.2/1 – quarter stake
Anderlecht, PSV Win, Roda v Jong Ajax > 2.5 MGS 2/1 – quarter stake

      Also try
Sergio Leon ATGS, Betis > 1.5 TGS 15/8 – quarter stake
Scored in both games last season against Levante. Betis were decent last year even finishing above city rivals Sevilla.

The Kitchen Champion Division is back tonight.

Looking stronger than ever this season with clubs like Twente, Roda, NEC and Sparta. My team Den Bosch has been taken over by a Georgian billonaire last month and he brought in a lot of players who should do well on this level. Price gone from 81.00 to 26.00 this week for us winning the league. Not sure it will be this season, but I think Den Bosch will be in the Eredivisie in 2 or 3 seasons.

Niort look good for goals against a pointless Orleans side that must be struggling for confidence after conceding 10 in 3 games 3-0,5-1,2-0. Niort started with a 2-1 win at Red Star and then a 4-2 home win over Clermont Foot before losing 1-0 at unbeaten Grenoble.

    Evening all

Mitre 10 Cup started this morning with a close game between two local rivals so didn’t have a bet.

Tomorrow morning sees a re-run of last years final un what should be another close game between Tasman and Canterbury.

Can we all take a moment and appreciate the Dutch Eerste returns tonight! Be waiting to see where the form is before we dive in, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a better league for goals.

Heading to France for tonight pick where Niort host Orleans in Div 2. The visitors haven’t had the best of starts with 3 straight losses conceding 2+ in each contest.

Niort started well with two wins but lost out on their travels last time out. They scored 2+ against Red Star and Clermont who currently sit slightly higher than the anchors Orleans. In two minds here but I’m going to chance the home sides goal time. BTTS & Over also looks decent, as does Niorts team goals, but the goal time is a generous offer for how poorly Orleans have started.

  20. HullShaker 6 years ago

    Morning gents,

Unlike our old friend Craneguy, I don’t make a habit of following young Scandinivian men on the internet but fair play, when it comes to their youth football leagues, there’s always the chance of goals.

    LEIKNIR / KB U19 VS. GRINDAVÍK / GG U19 (2000 KO):

Icelandic Youth action here and although its not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, it has been one of the most consistent leagues for goals over recent years and some of the scorelines (like the big man’s internet browsing history) are simply eyewatering.

These two played their most recent H2H just 10 weeks ago with the small matter of 11 match goals in an 8-3 home victory for Grindavik – not too shabby as recent goals-form goes and, although it’s unlikely we’ll see an exact repeat,  there’s every chance of a healthy final score!

Both sides have had a fairly active start to their respective Youth campaigns and these are reflected in the most recent match goal totals over the last 4 months:

    H: 6-5-7-4-4-5-5-11-4-8-9-5-5-3-7-5-10

    A: 6-3-6-4-0-2-2-1-11-9-4-12-3-3-8-6-5

Like I said, these are some of the most consistently high scoring games in Europe and the fact that only 3 of the hosts last 17 matches finished with less than 5 goals puts that into perspective.

The significant difference to other ‘high scoring’ leagues (and the reason I like it so much) is that it’s rarely a quality gulf resulting in vast thumpings of 10-0, etc as seen in the Finnish Kolkolmen and similar leagues – instead what you find in the Icelandic Youth is scorelines of 5-4, 7-3, etc where BOTH teams are working for you to help amass that goals tally.

    Two selections:

    GL 4.0…1.775
    (Bet365)
    ????

GRINDAVIK HIGHEST SCORING HALF = 2ND…6/5
    (Bet365)

    Best of luck ?

Double chance is the same as +1 goal. So why are the odds always slightly different, it can be one way or the other on william hill. I know it usually isnt by much but anyone know why they vary ?

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

They only vary because they’re trying to bill it as a different market.

    • jinx 6 years ago

Oh ok, thought i woz missing something ?

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Double chance is not the same as +1,if a game was to finish 1-0 to the opponent then +1 would result in a push, where as double chance if the opponent won 1-0 then you would lose.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Double chance means win or draw as does +1. It’s the same thing unless you take the Asian version.
If the opponent wins 1-0 on double chance you win on the drawe.

    Auxerre v Nancy
    Le Harve v Clermont
    Niort v US Orleans

In to round four of fixtures in Ligue 2 and already starting to see who to avoid, who’s struggling and who should be backed

I’ve followed this league for 4 or 5 seasons and thid has been the best start to a season for goals i can recall.. I’ve looked through the card and identifed 3 matches which should see a minumum of 2 goals in each games based on who’s playing and who’s a home. Niort a popular choice today and Jordan and others have rightly called out Niort look good value for the win. Auxerre have had a decent start whilst Le Harve are at a much better propositon at home.

    Swansea O1.5 TGs
    Lozano (Girona) ATGS

    Double @ just over 7/1

Fancy Swansea to nick a couple tonight against Birmingham who have already conceded twice in 2 out 3 so far. Lozano has done ok in preseason with 2 in his last 3 and think he has a decent chance of bagging one tonight.

    Good luck

Leeds vs Rotherham Wigan Betting Tip – Leeds win.
It has been a strong start to the season for Leeds as they have won all three competitive matches while netting twice in the first half of each game. New boss Marcelo Bielsa has introduced high-intensity pressing tactics and the Whites have already beaten expected promotion contenders Stoke and Derby this term. Rotherham will be the visitors to Elland Road on Saturday and they were beaten 5-1 at Brentford in their opening contest back in the Championship. The Millers did respond by scoring a very late winner when beating Ipswich 1-0 on home soil last Saturday and then claiming a comfortable midweek cup win against Wigan. This contest will be much tougher and a Leeds win is expected

Stevenage vs Morecambe Betting Tip – Stevenage win.
With eleven goals conceded in three successive defeats and just one goal scored, it has not been an encouraging opening to the season for Morecambe. The Shrimps also failed to find the net in their last four matches of last season and they could be facing a difficult League Two season ahead of this visit to Stevenage. Two late goals allowed the hosts to claim a 3-1 win at Crawley last weekend after they had earned a 2-2 draw with Tranmere on the opening day. Although Stevenage lost 3-1 at Norwich in a midweek cup tie, the Championship team needed two late goals to seal the victory the Boro can respond by beating Morecambe.

Queen of the South vs St Johnstone Betting Tip – St Johnstone win.
After playing the two opening games of their respective league campaigns, Queen of the South and St Johnstone now resume action in the Scottish League Cup with the hosts netting twelve goals in winning their opening three group matches last month. In three subsequent winless contests in both league and cup, the Dumfries based Championship team have faced stronger opposition with two goals conceded per game. St Johnstone will be their visitors on Saturday and defensive stability was a key feature when they earned ten points from their four group matches. The Perth team have failed to win their two Scottish Premiership fixtures this term but secured a creditable draw with Hibernian last weekend, and they are capable of winning this tie.

Halifax vs Dagenham Betting Tip – Halifax win.
Serious financial problems have affected Dagenham for much of this year and this has been reflected in their slow start to the campaign with just one point earned from their opening four National League matches. The Daggers have yet to lose by more than a one goal margin but they now visit Halifax with the hosts winning their first three fixtures of the season before losing 2-1 at Salford in midweek. Those goals were the first conceded by the Shaymen this term and they have scored five times without reply in two matches on home soil. A home win is predicted

Hartlepool vs Maidenhead Betting Tip – Hartlepool win.
Although Hartlepool have failed to earn three points from any of their four opening National League fixtures, very late equalisers have prevented the team from claiming victories against both Harrogate and more lately at Braintree. The Pool missed a penalty in a midweek 1-1 draw and now host a Maidenhead outfit which has claimed just one point to date when drawing 2-2 at troubled Dagenham. Alan Devonshire’s team have been well beaten by both Gateshead and Wrexham this term and are facing another defeat in North East England.

    • HullShaker 6 years ago

U19’s game Alex not kids – doubt its postponed and often pulled from trade if ‘adverse interest’ given the stature of the game.

Hi Guys, Just kicking off, Spanish 2nd Div game between albacete Balompie vs Deportivo la Coruna. Feel Deportivo are a great price to score twice at 9/4, relegated from primera league but have only failed to score in 1 of last 12 games, playing a team who finished 17th last season.
