SOMETIMES on Saturday there's too much choice – yesterday maybe there wasn't quite enough.

Only two Scottish games survived the winter chill while in England most of the games outside the Premier League and Championship bit the snow dust.

Picking my selections wasn't easy because I had to chop and change a bit and in the end I had one winner, one close call and a Super Single that needed more goals at Anfield.

The winner was a Top Treble on Watford not to lose, PSG and btts at Wolfsburg. PSG worried me without Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani but Angel di Maria was still there to help them through.

On my both to score treble I was an Athletic Bilbao goal short. Jordan, Greg, Scott and Desmond all found it tough so well done to any winners including Kelly who completed another £10 to £1000 challenge.

The members bet won so that's two out of three this month and Scott will post Sunday's later.

There are some cracking games on Sunday including Man City v Arsenal, Brighton v Arsenal, Milan v Inter and Barcelona v Atletico Madrid.

Rangers face Falkirk in the Scottish Cup quarters while it's Motherwell v Hearts and I've posted a separate preview.

Man City have just beaten Arsenal 3-0 twice and continue their stroll the title. They should beat a Chelsea side whose loss at Man United last week was their third in four games.

Add Rangers and over 2.5 match goals and to complete the treble I had Milan not to lose against Inter.

However, all today's Serie A games have been postponed as a mark of respect to Sampdoria skipper Davide Astori who tragically died in his sleep last night.

My treble is now a double paying 9-5 and the btts treble is also a double returning 2-1.

Struggling to find a Super Single but taking a chance on James Tavernier to score at any time. He takes the pens and there's a decent chance Rangers will be awarded one.

As I said in my preview the likes of Tavernier, Dean Windass and Sean Goss have been scoring regularly and all are decent prices to score or score first.

    MLS 2018

There is only one place to start, that is with the finalists for the last two years.

The champions Toronto, I tipped them up this time last year at 7/1 to win the mls, after losing out in the final in 2016 they made it their mission to win in 2017 and no one could get near them. Statistically the best ever season from any team in MLS history. I cheered them on every step of the way and got a lovely bonus two weeks before christmas.
They have quality all over the park, Bradley as captain, Vazquez creating chances and name a better partnership up top in Giovinco/Altidore. They have added Van Der Wiel to the squad. They go into this season as favourites, best price 4/1 which is fair. Toronto have started the season where they left off by defeating Colorado in the champions league.
The sound bites coming out of Toronto is they are motivated, ready to take on everyone who will be out to claim their scalp, all winners in this team it will be very hard for any team take their crown. I do expect a stop start to the season as they will be focusing on the champions league, hoping to be the first MLS side to win the competition.

Seattle, the 2016 champions on penalties against Toronto, they were awful in the 2017 final where they couldn’t handle Toronto. The squad stays the same but a massive blow with Jordan Morris doing his ACL and is out potentially for the full season. They will qualify for the play-offs and with the western conference not having much quality then they have the potential to get to the final for the 3rd year in a row. That is the reason why they are the 2nd favs at 8/1. I do feel this is the last season this squad will have together as there is a number of players in their 30s.

    Eastern Conference :

Possesses the most quality compared to the West. Lets look at the potential teams who could challenge.

Let’s start with Atlanta Utd, made their debut season last year, their quality south american players in Martinez, Almiron and Villalba made them a joy to watch. They took a while to get going but when they moved into their new stadium (which can hold 71,000) they took the league by storm, it looked like they timed their form for the playoffs but at the first hurdle they lost to Columbus. They have boosted their squad with high rated Argentine Ezequiel Barco, was touted to go to Europe but has opted for Atlanta which shows how much stronger the MLS is getting.
A concern for me though is their defence, going forward they are the best in the league at times, think it will be a case of scoring more than the opposition. With their home crowd and attacking thread i really fancy them to go deeper in the playoffs this year, unfortunately they will more than likely have to face Toronto to get to the final but with that home backing then anything can happen. Have been priced up as 4th favs at 9/1, brilliant chance of an outside bet.

NYCFC – They got some big name players in Lampard and Pirlo but to be honest they were both past it, they have let them go and they won’t be missed. The main man David Villa is still scoring for fun and i cant see why this season will be any different. Unfortunately for nycfc, the impressive english winger Jack Harrison moved back to England and signed for Middlesbrough. They have signed some good replacements and will win plenty of games but I dont feel they have the same quality as Atlanta and Toronto, priced up as joint 2nd favs at 8/1.

Chicago – Signing Schweinsteiger last season gave Chicago a boost and finished 3rd in the East, at times they were very impressive with Accam and Nikolic. Nikolic loves a goal but with Accam leaving I think that take a big part away from Chicago, they will be challenging for the playoffs but they will not be good enough to go far.

Columbus – Very impressive last season reaching the final of the east and lost to Toronto. They have a high press and play with a lot of width, don’t have the biggest name players but the manager sticks to his style and brings players in that fits. They have lost Kamara who was reliable in finishing the chances his team created but they have brought in Zardes who looked low in confidence at LA Galaxy, has been firing in pre season and could be the perfect fit. Columbus defence doesn’t fill me with much confidence but attack could be the best source of defence. At 25/1 they could be worth an investment but again the East is very tough and will be asking a lot to topple the rest. Defeated finalist in 2015, you never know, If they were in the West I would have considered them big favs to reach the final.

NYRB – Let playmaker Kjlestan move to Orlando, their play has came through him the last few seasons, he will be a massive loss and I don’t think they have anyone there that will fill the void. With NYRB you have Wright Phillips up top who is one of the best finishers in the league and have a brilliant youth product in Tyler Adams. A couple of seasons ago you would of thought NYRB would start putting their mark on the league but it looks like they are going back the way this now, possible short term pain for long term gain. The bookmakers don’t fancy them as well and price them at 25/1.

Orlando – Main striker Kyle Larin was sold to Besiktas, he was hot in 2016 but 2017 he struggled so a change for both parties might be best. Orlando have brought in Kjlestan from NYRB which will bring them a lot of creativity but overall their squad is not good enough. 50/1

Philadelphia – Signing Accam from Chicago is a massive coup for Philadelphia, that signing alone could push them into playoff contention, with Sappong up front who is more than capable of scoring they could be a team to keep an eye on 66/1

    Western Conference :

The East is no doubt the strongest and anything can happen in the playoffs, the West it is almost predictable.
Portland winners in 2015 and MVP Valeri 2017, Seattle winners in 2016 and runners up in 2017, you are looking at one of the two to get to the MLS cup final Seattle previewed at the start, so lets look at the challengers in more detail

Portland – Winners in 2015, finished top of the West in 2017, losing out to Seattle in the playoffs, Valeri had an amazing season scoring 21 goals from midfield and picked up the MVP. Have a tough start playing their first 5 games on the road as their stadium gets revamped. They will make the playoffs and at 12/1 they have a chance to get to the final which is decent odds each way.

Houston – Managed to get in the playoffs last season, good attacking options but with an ageing defence in Beasley and Senderos I can’t see them doing much. They have the attack to pick up some good results but over the course of the season they will struggle to get back into the playoffs.

LA Galaxy – Where to start with Galaxy? Champions in 11/12/14 and record champions with a total of 5 mls cups, then in 17 a record low, the worst team in MLS in 17 but they still have quality within their ranks. First of all they have signed Kamara from Columbus which is a great addition. The Dos Santos brothers have a first full season together and if they click which imagine they will they can cause havoc for the opposition. They have been priced up at 25/1, in my opinion a brilliant price for a team with the history of Galaxy and the talent to go far in the playoffs, getting half odds for each way bets so well worth an outside bet for a team in the Western. Rumours still about Zlatan will sign which will be a massive boost for Galaxy and the league.

LAFC – Expansion team being backed by some of the Hollywood stars, they sound like they mean business and first thing first is to be the biggest team in LA. It will be hard with the history of Galaxy but bringing in Carlos Vela up front, some experienced MLS players and Bob Bradley as manager they are not messing about. With any expansion team I think they will struggle at the start but give them a few weeks I think they will get it together and will be a tough team to crack. Potential to get into the playoffs but a team to follow over the next few years to see how they fit into the league. 40/1

San Jose – Wondolowski is now 35 but is 12 goals short of Donovans goal record, I think he will break it this season but can see San Jose struggling overall this season. 50/1

FC Dallas – Started last season strongly, looked like they could win the Western but second half of the season was terrible and dropped right down. Already knocked out the champions league this season. Doesn’t seem like things are right and again the best they can hope is to challenge for the playoffs. Bookies have them shorter than what I suggest but I think there is better value out there. 16/1

Real Salt Lake – The opposite from Dallas last season, started off poorly but they were very impressive in the second half of the season. One of the most entertaining teams without any major stars and I think this season they will pick up fro where they left off and have a good chance of getting into the playoffs. Priced at 40/1, another good price for a team in the Western.

To summarise, the eastern is so much stronger than the west but in a one off match in a final you never know. It’s working out who will get there and finding value with each way selections.
Overall Toronto have the best squad, as long as they have the hunger to defend their crown then I can’t see past them, I have a soft spot for them now after cheering them on to the title last season.

Will be an interesting opening couple of weeks, odds won’t change much in the outright market as the MLS is not a big betting market so lets see who is impressing.

    Recommended bets:

    Toronto 4/1
    Atlanta 9/1 ew
    Columbus 25/1 ew
    La Galaxy 25/1 ew
    Real Salt Lake 40/1 ew

Looking forward to everyones thoughts and predictions? I haven’t had time to look into detail in all the squads and have concentrated on teams that should be qualifying for the playoffs.

Good preview mate. Intrigued to see another LA team in the mix. I like their addition of Feilhaber from Kansas. Great veteran presence to supply Vela up top. Bought a young Uruguayan from Penarol. Had 11 goals, 11 assists in 42 games for them last season. Good to see young players choosing the MLS as their stepping stone. Can guarantee that Barco for Atlanta will be playing for a big European side in a couple of years.

    Brighton v Arsenal
Arsenal to win at 19/20 (NAP)
Don’t be fooled by Arsenal they have lost their last three games but two of those were to Man City and to be fair there is only Liverpool who can match City at this present time, the other loss was to Ostersunds but the job was already done.
    Man City v Chelsea
    Chelsea double chance at 7/5
Chelsea cannot afford to lose this match if they do it’s curtains for their top four ambitions.people will be taking the 4/7 on City and that’s understandable but Conte isn’t stupid and will set Chelsea up to contain City and hit them on the break, can see Chelsea getting at least a draw.
    Barcelona v Athletico Madrid
Athletico Madrid double chance at 5/4
I fully expect Madrid to come away with at least a draw.

Arsenal should win this one i put my faith in them,Brighton are doing ok but the quality between the two is immense, expect a reaction and goals.

    • chelseagirl 6 years ago

Mac cant see Chelsea getting anything from this game and have doubts about Arsenal winning I will be on Brighton who are much better value at 3/1. Agree with you on your other 2 points tho.

Can match City in terms of beating them.i can’t see Chelsea winning but i don’t see them losing either,if Chelsea play like they did against Man Utd and Barcelona then a draw is not out of the question.

    • mr h 6 years ago

He’s spot on….if City are on song then only Liverpool have the attacking nous too live with City’s firepower. United are slow and stodgy like a typical Mourinho side. Arsenal are woeful. Chelsea have internal problems and that festering onto the playing field. 7goals shipped to Watford & Bournemouth? Spurs are a few players short imo although I rate them highly. Just a neutral opinion though

Hi gents. Yesterday was one to forget but I’ll take it lightly as I haven’t lost many bets in the last few weeks.

Today I’m hoping to get back on track with two dire sides in Serie A. Chievo host Sassuolo in a relegation scrap. BTTS hasn’t been common between these two, but when you get two sides in such poor form, you have to expect goals. Bookies aren’t really too sure on this one. PP have it as short as 8/11, but 10Bet are offering a handsome EVS.

With the sad news from Italy I’m going for my second pick. LAFC are the new expansion team in the MLS, and their opening game looks tough on paper. However, Seattle are down four starters and played earlier in the week with the likes of Dempsey and Bruin playing a lot of minutes. They are taking the CCL seriously and LA have had good news with Vela looking to be a go. Their goal time is at 70:00 which is rare in the MLS. Perfect chance to pick up your first points and Bob Bradley knows how to ease a new team into the MLS as he did with Chicago Fire.

    Morning gents

Despite a goal short in the NAP, goals at Wolfsburg and first half goals in Seria B made it a decent enough Saturday

    Scottish cup day today

    Rangers v Falkirk KO 4.15pm

The ibrox men finally look like a team now and they are on a great run of form – they should have too much for a Falkirk side who have had a shocker of a season. They’ve managed to get a bit of stability and moved away form the play off spot in the Legaue and with cup games you just never know – this is Rangers best chance of a trophy this season and given the number of goals they have been scoring we should see some more today

Back over 3.5 match goals 38/25

well done all those on brighton they put in a great performance but how the mighty have fallen arsenal now look a mediocre team who wouldn’t look out of place battling with the likes of west ham and Southampton rather than man city and Liverpool wenger has to go however the board are likely to keep him on much to the annoyance of the fans one things for certain arsenal tv will keep on providing a fine weekly comedy instalment every week!

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Yes ditto that well done all on Brighton they held on,i expected a reaction from Arsenal but they were poor again, poor from me this weekend first one in a while,Chelsea result not a bad one for Liverpool i expected more from them also, big game next weekend a mouthwatering prospect.

    • buzzer 6 years ago

Yes united v Liverpool should be a great game as long as mourinho dosent park the bus as per usual in big games I think Liverpool would have had a fair shot at the title had they of sorted their defensive problems out sooner and beaten teams that they were expected to beat but they are coming good now although to late in the season I think u3.5 goals and btts has a fair shout in this one.

Poor day. Question tho, my 5fold wdw Accer has 3 wins and a loss on it and the other game is a void. Now this has been marked as a loser, but if the Atalanta game gets played and they win, then that’s 4/5 and moneyback, so how can they mark it as lost

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Sorry for the late reply but I’ve come across this before and mentioned it here.
If the five games aren’t played the moneyback aspect is void.
Seems unfair but it will be in their rules.
First time this happened to me I got the stake back so maybe worth asking the question.

    Non sports related tip

It’s Oscars night and having seen quite a few of the pics nominated, I think there is a bet that stands out.

Best supporting actor: Christopher Plummer 18/1

Reasoning. Having seen most of the other contenders, I didn’t think any were jaw droppingly great.

This winning would send a message in the anti sleaze movement as Plummer replaced Kevin Spacey after the film had been completed. The director had the guts to reshoot all Spacey’s scenes and apparently got a performance that vindicated his decision.

An Oscar would probably be seen by all those luvies as just reward for his action despite all the extra cost it must have involved.

    Now 20/1 on Bet Victor.

  89. leroy 6 years ago

Big drift on Oriente Petrolero’s price, can’t say I know why.

Still, Real Potosi’s first 5 games have been goalfests this season (5+ in each), while 3 of the 4 meetings between these two last year saw BTTS and Overs land. Oriente have scored in 4 of their 5 league games this season and conceded in each, and also scored in each of their Copa Libertadores games. Must have a chance?

CERRO PORTEÑO VS. DEPORTIVO CAPIATÁ (2045 KO):

Looks like the bookies are all over Cerro here but I reckon Capiata might just have something to say about finding the net at a great price.

They’ve started well, have scored in each of their opening 4 games and have failed to score in just one of the last 7 H2H’s between the two.

    Three selections to consider:

Cover already available at Real Potosi – no 3rd goal at 10/1. I’m letting it run as it’s a half stake.

All losers. Both players each missed the bull twice for 120 plus finishes which would have brought all bets in on another night.
    Ah well onwards

No 1st half action but made up for it in the 2nd 45′ ?

CERRO PORTEÑO VS. DEPORTIVO CAPIATÁ (2045 KO):

Looks like the bookies are all over Cerro here but I reckon Capiata might just have something to say about finding the net at a great price.

They’ve started well, have scored in each of their opening 4 games and have failed to score in just one of the last 7 H2H’s between the two.

    Three selections to consider:

    CAPIATA TO SCORE…8/13
    ????

    BTTS…4/5
    ???

3 DE FEBRERO VS. LIBERTAD (2250 KO):

I can see the hosts taking a few kickings this season on their travels and a strong-starting Libertad outfit could prove a handful even on home soil:

    LIBERTAD OVER 1.5 TGS…5/6
    ???

    LIBERTAD OVER 2.5 TGS…11/4
    ?

    Good luck.

Really like the look of both teams to score in this. Two scoring teams both in decent form. Anto are good for a goal and have seen BTTS in their last 5 games running.
