I'VE said for years friendlies are pointless – and Scotland v Holland summed it up.

Honestly I've had more fun at the dentist than watching that and what did we learn from it?

Maybe two things. Matt Phillips is as much a centre-forward as I'm a ballerina and if that's the best the Dutch can do they'll be missing from a few more big tournaments.

The one consolation for wasting 90 minutes of my life was my Super Single double came up – Holland draw no bet and Switzerland not to lose away to Northern Ireland.

The Irish were beaten by a better team but the penalty that cost them the game shouldn't have been given.

The 9-10 double was my only bet and I'm stikcing to a double tonight with one European play-off, Sweden v Italy, and a raft of friendlies including England v Germany and France v Wales. Later it's Honduras v Australia in a first-leg play-off.

I've posted a separate Sweden v Italy post and I fancy both to score or over 2.5 goals.

But again I'm doing a Super Single double – Germany draw no bet and France -1Ah – and I've tried to take as little risk as possible because they are friendlies.

England have been hit hard by call-offs with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson and Fabian Delph all out.

The latest blow is a broken finger to keeper Jack Butland who was to start at Wembley and his place will likely go to Jordan Pickford. It looks like Jamie Vardy and Marcus Rashford up top while Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Harry Maguire and Jake Livermore will start.

Germany aren't at full strength either but the likes of Mesut Ozil, Timo Werner, Sami Khedira, Ikay Gundogan and Matts Hummel are set to start and they should have enough to avoid defeat.

France take on a Wales side never the same without Gareth Wales and that showed as they missed out on a play-off for Russia by losing at home to the Republic of Ireland. Hal Robson-Kanu and Jonny Williams are others missing.

The French have netted 14 goals in their last five home games and that includes the inexplicable 0-0 draw with Luxembourg. Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud, Alexandre Lacazette, Anthony Martial and Nabil Fekir are all in the squad.

It's a frightening array of attacking talent and if the intensity is there France should win with plenty to spare.

As usual on a Friday I'm concentrating on Saturday's tips but once my Daily Record columns are written I'll put up at least one tip.

Well done to yesterday's winners including Hullshaker who has been on a roll this week.

    Fridays goals tip 1
    Ccm v Sydney
    Over 3 mgs Asian line
    2.025

    Tip 2
Over 1, 1.5 fhg Asian line
    2.025 bet 365

Today’s game from oz sees the mariners take on high flying Sydney and this fixture usually provides goals- and lots of them. There’s been 42 in the last 10 meetings at the mariners place, and although Sydney are much the better side it’s not unusual for the mariners to be contributing a goal or 2 of their own.
As I’ve pointed out before no matter who they play the mariners are usually an excellent side to back for corners due to the 4-3-3 system they play and partly also probably due to the lack of quality they have in those wide areas ( crosses constantly hit first man or get blocked) so with that in mind I’m taking them to win the rt5 corners at 11/10 as well.
I’m on a poor run with the goals bets but good luck if you follow

Sorry for the radio silence from me of late, been overseas on holiday and just got back yesterday. Onto tonight’s match in the A-League where we have Central Coast Mariners hosting defending champions Sydney FC.

Central Coast Mariners v Sydney FC:
The hosts have been fairly woeful this season in terms of results, although they have grinded out a few draws against arguably superior opposition. Tonight they are without full back Roux, who is on international duty. Roux is an important player, and it’s going to hurt them. The Mariners have a terrible record against their neighbours, having not beaten them in any of their last 6 attempts, losing 5 times and only drawing the one back in early 2016.

Sydney are flying as expected in the league, they have grinded out a few of those wins, and their defense is certainly not as tight as last season. Unlike most of the other teams in the A-League, they’ve lost no-one to international duty, so are expected to do the business yet again.

I don’t anticipate a goal fest though tonight, as Mariners are the joint lowest scorers in the league, and Sydney themselves have won both their away games this season 1-0. However I also don’t like backing unders, especially in my own league. I do think Mariners will do a little better, but wouldn’t be surprised by a 2-0 FT result.

    Tips:
    Sydney -1 asian handicap @ 1.90 (NAP)
    Mariners – over 1.5 team cards @ 1.61
    Sydney FC – over 5.5 team corners @ 2.10

    • old al 6 years ago

Thanks Obi, took Sydney over 4.5 corners with 2+ bookings for CCM @ a shade over 6/4 ( shied away from goals thankfully because of Sean’s write up so thanks Sean as well!)

Crazy scoreline in Croatia never seen Greece defend so badly in such a game, one thing you can be sure of though is an overs game in the second leg,so thats the draws lost and the unders gone.well done all winners.

I am really baffled, Jim… I was on btts o 2.5. Been a horrid week for me. Just gonna lay low now

    • roberts 6 years ago

Unfortunately thats football,I’ve had a nice wee run on inplay bets,Brazil this week has been profitable as most teams scored and overs, everyone has bad runs it’s just hopefully picking the right games!

    • roberts 6 years ago

The above post was aimed @sean567,didn’t bet on game as have already decided on Newport County overs@5/4 taken yesterday, hoping you turn it around, maybe take some time out, just an idea fella

    • sean567 6 years ago

Cheers Roberts, my other bets are fine, I’m making doing inplay bets and I hit a nice 14/1 shot and a 31/1 shot at the weekend which netted me over a grand profit, it’s just the goals bets are doing badly atm. Unfortunately tho that’s what I class as my “main bets” and what I keep stats for. As you say it will turn around at some point. I’ve managed to turn a profit doing them for the past 6 months in a row, so I’m keeping the faith with them. Obviously I don’t advise other people to be following them religiously this month, but I’ll be carrying on

    • roberts 6 years ago

I fully understand as I don’t normally bother posting inplay bets either

    • sean567 6 years ago

Yeah mate any Inplay stuff I do is either hunches or reacting to what’s happened rather than doing proper research etc so I don’t feel I could tip them to other people so I tend not to bother unless something really stands out at a very good price

  14. HullShaker 6 years ago

  17. Johnb 6 years ago

Mr f you must have been watching a different game than Malky Mackay, I switched off as soon as I saw the team as I thought Levein had been drafted back in “no strikers again” I know it wasn’t the famous 5-5-0 formation but we still didn’t have a natural striker,
According to Mackay 18 shots on target was sensational against one of the best teams in Europe, as I say I didn’t watch it but everywhere I look it says 3 or 4 shots on target not 18 and from what I have seen previously Holland are far from one of the best teams in Europe
The good news is that if we can believe Stewart Regan then at least Malky Mackay won’t be getting the managers job

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

I didn’t hear Mackay say the 18 efforts were on target but we were the better team and had more chances.
Having said that it was a game played with no intensity and at a slow pace as most friendlies are.
With what he had available he did OK but should have played a real striker.
Also if Holland are one of the best teams in Europe how come they didn’t qualify?

    • recoba 6 years ago

We’ll John it was a pointless friendly and I didn’t watch it either as I had other things more exciting to watch on a Thursday night after work than a duff friendly but I do hear they played well and it was a very young team, why not play Cummings, the only striker I don’t know but ye sound like you sat down all excited to watch it only to turn off gutted after seeing the line up…it’s basically been stated all week. I didn’t bother from the start but it’s good to read and hear they played well and as for 18 on target? Lol
Ps you not tune in for Mginn? Heard he played well, like most.
Pps: still scunnered we didn’t get a play off.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

To say we played well is an exaggeration. We did OK with a young team but Griffiths and Brown were badly missed.
The likes of McGinn and McGregor are the future but McLean and Christie struggled.
Tierney was quality as usual out of position at centre-back and Jack did fine at right-back.
McGinn was MoM and as I said before the game I like him as a player – and a Bankie!

    • recoba 6 years ago

That’s not getting at your point john but as far as I’m concerned Gordon could have played CF last night..then I would have watched! Just seen Tierney was CB is that right??
Just the RB,CB and best LB in now ;)

    • sean567 6 years ago

He was recoba and that his problem. He’ll continue to get punted about because as well as being the best lb he’s also the best cb and rb too.

    • recoba 6 years ago

So some positives from a daft game against what looked a decent Dutch team so let’s not talk Levein in Prague, that was a vital game not a kick about.

ballymena v linfield looks very likely, both teams seem to concede and score with alarming ease
vitkovic v opava in czech druha, similar stats

alternatively the u21 qualifying games are on, and goals look likely in the games in

For those of you with an interest in the next Rangers manager. This is there official statement from tonight.
    https://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/club-statement-82/

    • sand 6 years ago

Must say that’s am interesting statement when it’s a done deal. Haven’t interviewed anyone and are inviting more candidates so they can interview in ten days…

Two weeks after Pedro gone too. That’s embarrassing.

    • andrzejstarba 6 years ago

Chris guy I am really not having a go as I’m not but I just wanted to say that a lot of people saw what you wrote that McInnes had already been appointed and now rangers give this statement. I just hope not too many people went mad on your post as it looked 100%> like I said im nikt giving any pretence as I only put a small amount on but just worried if others went mad.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Most bookies restricted stakes anyway – but if you went mad that’s your choice.

    • sean ireland 6 years ago

Ive a feeling a lot would have taken Chris at his word that it was a ”Done Deal”and may have ”Filled their boots” as suggested by Chris and the latest statement from Rangers looks to have proven that not to be the case at all.Not looking good at all.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

You should never feel that way about a bet. If you see a tip it’s your choice to take or not.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

If Chris is wrong he’s going to look the biggest Idiot of all time,i doubt he would put his reputation on the line.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

If he’s wrong he’s wrong – you’ve been wrong before. We’ve all been wrong.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

      The latest statement says nothing.

    • sless1903 6 years ago

Sorry Mr f but I’ve got to disagree. They’re inviting candidates to apply and admitting nobody’s been interviewed yet. If they had a specific target in mind why would they be doing this?

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Who knows – maybe they’ve decided they don’t want to pay compo.

I ain’t worried macca I literally put only a few quid on as know nothing about Scottish football but just hope no one put on too much as it don’t look to be a done deal.

    • sless1903 6 years ago

Thing is Macca they can’t afford they buy out clause for McInnes. Got it confirmed yesterday it’s £1.2m and needs to be paid in full. both of these conditions are non negotiable. They’re haven’t got got a clue what they’re doing and know they’re not getting him which is why they’re inviting further applications.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

      They will.

    • sless1903 6 years ago

Sorry Macca I somehow forgot that someone who stays hundreds of miles away from Aberdeen knows more about my club than I do.

Have a feeling Rangers may just have an interest in testing the availability of N.Ireland manager Michael O’Neill after their more than likely departure from World cup qualification in 2nd leg in Switz’ in a couple of days, something O’Neill described as ”Always nice to be linked with big clubs” when asked about a Rangers link end of October. His ability to get the very best from a very average group of players has to be an attraction.
At a very attractive 25/1 i’m willing to have a very small saver although its by no means a ”Done Deal” ;)

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

O’Neill’s been heavily linked to the Scotland job.

    • pablopower 6 years ago

I’ve heard someone say same thing regarding next rangers manager ,but this time it’s van bronkhurst and they have backed him heavy at 16/1 betvictor , saw his slip, he’s adamant it’s going to be van bronckhurst

    • pablopower 6 years ago

Derek mcinnes was 8/11 then hours later right into 1/5 …. Stuart Milne hammering out a deal

    • sand 6 years ago

Cus everyone on this site jumped on Chris’s tip that it was a done deal, which led to the odds being slashed

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Odds weren’t cut because of what Chris Guy said – all the rumours were about McInnes and he was already short.

    • sand 6 years ago

I know it wasn’t solely this site but no doubt had an influence. Chris Guy posted and various said they were lumping. We all know it doesn’t take a lot of bets to reduce the odds in manager markets

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

McInnes has been favourite from day one and still is. This site can’t influence prices that much.
I read Chris Guy’s comments but didn’t lump on as there was no proof.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Van Bronckhorst was quoted here plenty of times during the week and dismissed by Mr Orange among others.
Why would he leave Feyenoord for Rangers and that would be another big compensation bill.

Just a quick word on Poland friendly tonight. It’s an experimental line up with 3 man defence. I see us definitely conceding and there is value on btts, Uruguay to score before 57 minute and even over 1.5 Uruguay goals.

    Couple of small stake efforts:
    Sane ATGS 15/8
Starts upfront with Draxler and Werner
    Mbappe ATGS 13/10

Summary: Since influential skipper Josh Labadie hobbled off field of play on home soil aganist Colchester, Newport’s form has wobbled. They’ve struggled in last 3 league games and although they’ve continued scoring, they’ve now began to leak goals, conceded in last two home games, thus a buck in trend with home factors. Tonight they entertain a buoyant Port Vale under new leadership. Aspin’s reign to date looks very good. 5 wins and 2 losses. His boys have won both away days to nil! ( including a win over Exeter playing through storm Brian!). With Vale scoring freely with Pope in hot form (15/8 to score anytime) and the home sides very good scoring record at home I’m hoping this lands on a poor betting card!

Good luck all with bets this evening !?

Mentioned my old favourite league NZ Youth earlier but only just finished work for the week so couldn’t advise pre-KO prices…hopefully folk took the hint – 3-0 at HT with a missed penalty to boot.

Non-too shabby with quick-fire goals in both Brasilian picks early doors ?

    • HullShaker 6 years ago

Finished 6-0 in NZ…hope some took the pre/in-play – by far the most proficient league for goals I’ve ever come across bar none…I’d not be surprised if 365 pull the season markets so keep your eyes peeled before traders do ?
