ANOTHER live English game – and another 0-0 draw. I've lost count of how many there have been recently but hopefully we'll see goals over the weekend.

It's a difficult card and I'm concentrating on goals with three trebles.

I've posted a Scottish and English preview where most of my tips are reasoned. Still to add the Super Single – been mulling over my shortlist and two teams who feature there are Plymouth and Charlton. Taking them not to win but to score with the double paying 6-5.

Last night Strasbourg losing beat my treble and while there were plenty of goals in Holland there was a shortage in French Ligue 1.

Well done to any winners last night and remember to check out all our European previews.

Looking ahead to Saturday and a few games/bets stand out in the English lower leagues…

    FYLDE VS. GUISELEY:

Guiseley are finding life tough in the National League and I reckon a certain striker will make things even tougher tomorrow for a team that have conceded 4 times on each of their last 2 away outings:

    DANNY ROWE ATGS…10/11
    ???

    ****************************

    ALFRETON
    GAINSBOROUGH
    SOUTHPORT
    YORK

    OVER 2.5 MGS 4-FOLD…6.19/1
    ?

    Best of luck.

Last night didn’t quite go to plan. Jets won as expected, but the Nabbout goal being disallowed scuppered a few of my tips. Today we have the two games in the A-League.

Wellington Phoenix v Western Sydney Wanderers:
Phoenix are sitting bottom of the table, after a series of exceedingly poor displays. They finally got their win though at home against Melbourne Victory, in a game which they dominated due to a red card being issued against Victory in the opening 10 minutes. Luck went their way in the main part, but they are always a bit trickier to handle at Westpac Stadium.

Wanderers have been on a decent run of form, winning 3 of their last 5 games, drawing one, and losing only a single one. Their away form is a little shaky, with more draws than anything. Risdon and Sotirio should feature after their injury spells, but Cornthwaite and Herd are out through suspension.

Tricky match to call, can see it ending in a 1-1 draw. Cards look the way to go here, as both teams have a few disciplinary issues in their ranks, particularly the Wanderers.

    Melbourne Victory v Perth Glory:
Both teams enter this one in shaky form, with Victory having lost & drawn their last two games, and Glory winless in their last 3. Victory still have Williams out through suspension, but see the return of captain Valeri.

Perth have several players out through injury and illness, with Poscoliero being the latest out. Lowry and Nichols return in what is a big plus for the side, as they have been extremely poor in both defense and attack of late.

I don’t have massive faith in Victory this season, but the manner in which Glory have been playing, I really can’t see anything other than a home win.

    Tips:
    Phoenix v Wanderers – over 5 cards @ 1.85
    Victory -1 asian handicap @ 1.80
Victory to score a penalty @ 5.50 (small stakes)
Victory to miss a penalty @ 11.00 (small stakes)

    • obi wan cannoli 6 years ago

Sorry guys – posted wrong odds on Victory to miss. 15.0 are correct odds (not 11.0).

  3. philwindy 6 years ago

One I really like tomorrow is Nice O1.5 team goals @1.80
Just checked team news and Mario is back in the match squad as is the usual suspects Plea, Saint-Maximin.

Just feel Amiens are punching above their weight and can’t keep it up. They got thumped for 6 in the cup to a team a league below last time out.

Here’s hoping Nice do the business. They have only failed to score once on home soil.

Side bet win to nil. @ 2.50

Dante is in the squad and should have enough experience to steer the defence to a clean sheet against a team averaging 0.5 goals away from home. Failing to score in 6/10

    Good luck

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

As you say Balotelli should start – much better team with him in the line-up.

I see you and Scott fancy them so I hope this bolds well for my bet.

  5. nathanufton 6 years ago

Morning guys, just been having a bit of a poke around regards the upcoming Birmingham/Derby game, a few stats and bits and bobs really.

Last weekend, Derby put up a decent showing away to Man Utd in the FA cup and it took the reds until the 83rd minute to break the deadlock. Lingard of all people. We had him for a season on loan and he dreadful. Man Utd got a very late 2nd but i’m not crying in my cornflakes, just glad the match is settled and we can get back to business with sorting the league out.
Derby had a great December, Rowett picked up his 2nd manager of the month award to go with the one he got in October, and Scott Carson got championship player of the month with consistent performances. We were unbeaten in 7 before we played man Utd, but our league form still reads 2 losses in our last 17. We last lost away on September 16th.
Carson’s form has been superb and the player reckons he’s playing the best football of his career. He last pulled on an England shirt 6.5 years ago. Anyone who fancies a flutter on whether he makes it on the plane to Russia can get him at 33/1 with most bookies. If the manager takes 3 keepers – likely, he will possibly miss out – unless he keeps racking up the clean sheets, then its a case of whether he gets noticed. Somebody at the FA must of given Southgate the heads up. If he takes 4 keepers, on current form, you’d be a fool to not bank on him making the squad. I don’t think there’s an English keeper with his current form/stats currently playing. To give you an idea on how good his form/stats are, when derby had Peter Shilton between the sticks @ 37 years old, he was the best gk in the world. Carson’s Derby stats are marginally better than Shilton’s.
I believe the last 3 times we’ve played Birmingham away, we’ve won 2 and drawn 1. Birmingham are 2nd from bottom even after 3 good wins, but Derby are 2nd in the league. Birmingham’s goals at home are the worst in the league ( around 0.57 gpg ), Derby’s away goal record is 2nd behind Wolves @ 1.77 or there about.
This will be the first time Rowett has returned back to the ground of the club that sacked him where he had them joint 6th/7th on points in December last year. New owners wanting a higher profile manager. Up steps Gianfranco Zola and a winless streak that left the Bluenoses standing on the trapdoor to league one on the last day of the season. You just know Rowett will be eying up 3 pts from this game. @ 13/10 with betfair, I think its generous. Birmingham struggle to score, Derby having so many clean sheets and the 2nd best away goal tally tells me this is likely to be a rams win to nil. That pays 5/2 with betfair.
A double result for the rams pays 3/10 with betfair…. BUT… there’s relevant team news and other stuff to take into consideration. Vydra is 1 goal behind Leon Clarke from Sheff Utd. They drew a blank last night in the Sheffield Derby that ended 0-0. If Vydra scores today, he draws level with Clarke. I can see him netting especially knowing Sheff Utd have already played. He’s around 17/10 with betfair to atgs.
For those that are not keen on the atgs and want something with a bit more bang for your buck, i’d consider Derby clean sheet YES @ 7/5 with betfair.

Birmingham have let one of their right backs leave for Cyprus and there’s word that Lewis Grabben – one of their best central defenders could also be on his way out. If Birmingham are trying to sell him and they play him and he gets injured, they won’t be able to cash in on him. Not too sure on how long his contract is though.

Derby made a few changes last week away to Man Utd. Johnson has a broken bone in his back and Ledley is still injured, meaning Thorne and Huddlestone are likely to sit in front of the back 4. Thorne got more match time and because of those 2 injuries, Derby have to play him. Happy with that. Right and left backs at Derby are Baird/Wisdom and Forsyth/Ollson. My guess is Baird and Forsyth.

Nugent or Winnall up front with probably Lawrence/Vydra/Weimann. There’s not that many changes we could/should be making.
I think this game is winnable for the rams, but even with Birminghams turn in recent fortunes, I think the lads in the dressing room will want to get the points for Rowett – another chance for him to say ” I told you so “.

My long suffering step-dad supports the blues and he’s married into a family of rams fans. Most weeks he has very little positive to say about his own beloved team.

Derby have more or less concluded their transfer business for January by getting the only signing they needed. Rowett on a contract extension. But now with Ledley maybe 3-4 weeks out and Johnson with 4-8 weeks out, now might surely be the time to ask who’s idea it was to send Bryson out on loan !!! Square pegs and round holes I guess. What about a recall of Butterfield??

Anyway, I’ve given you enough meat on the bone today. Even though I think Forests new manager is a quality decision, my auntie used to say ” you can’t polish a turd “. If Karanka thinks he’s gonna get Forest into the playoffs this year, someone needs to dope test him. 18 years since Forest have seen top flight footie. This time next year, it will be 19 years.

I’ll be up later with team news.

    • andynffc 6 years ago

Typical obsessed sheep can’t just talk about their own team, got to mention forest and so so bitter… karanka actually said within 3 seasons, got to lay the correct foundations..

    • nathanufton 6 years ago

Obsessed? Nope. Bitter ? Nope. Dunno where you’ve got that from, clue was in the first sentence about his appointment. In the news ( yesterday ) he was eying up the points gap to Leeds. This season.

As per ” spouting whatever shite I like as per normal ” , at least I make a concerted effort to steer people towards or away from certain stuff and if my picks include avoiding my own team, i’ll tell people. If the length of my posts offends you, then just for you, i’ll cut all the substance out of my reasoning and leave everyone on the site guessing. I’m proud to be part of this site/community and even if it upsets you to the point you choose to throw cheap insults, I will still make a concerted effort to contribute.

I think I’ve made my point.

Morning gents – agree with Mr F that’s it’s another tough card. Been a poor few weeks for goals but hopefully we’ll see some today

    Raith v Ayr
    Peterhead v Stirling

Nothing flash here – it’s game of the day in Scotland as A resurgent Raith host an out of sorts Ayr side who have lost 3 of their last 4 and are conceding goals for fun. I don’t see two of Scotlands top scoring sides holding back.

Peterhead meanwhile are probably the form team in Scotland at the moment – they are rampanat but also despite running to some impressive wins recently they have conceded in those. I’m sure Rory McAllister will help himself to another few goals today against an Albion side who’s wheels have come off

    Liverpool v Man City

    Goals Goals Goals!!

Cannot see anything other than goals in this game, both teams have an abundance of attacking talent, but even as i Liverpool supporter i would have to advise caution in backing us here, “bet with the head not the heart” as the famous saying goes

Liverpool are more than shakey at the back and their home record isnt as good as its percieved – 5 draws in 11 in the league – doesnt fill me with confidence, they are up against (arguably) one of the best team in Europe at the moment and with Sterling / Sane / Aguero / De Bruyne finding pockets of space behind our midfield i can see them causing havoc!

Liverpool can certainly play their part with goals based bets a no brainer for me!!!

    Good Luck!!

    • nathanufton 6 years ago

I think Liverpool have a massive acid test tomorrow and you can’t argue with City’s form. The title is there for them to lose. the other big hitters in the top flight this season for me have been very hit n miss apart from maybe Tottenham. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd all have team sheets stuffed with big names and just 2 seasons or so back, most of those mentioned would be on most peoples acca’s week in week out.

You’re right about the famous saying, but are you brave enough to bet against your own side? I tipped man Utd to beat Derby last week which was a no brainer but there have been other matches where I have bet against my own team. If doing so goes too much against your comfort zone, then maybe having a punt on overs man City goals wouldn’t feel so much like shooting yourself in the foot.
Home advantage might give Liverpool a goal but having never really replaced Gerrard, nobody in that side inspires me to say ” this guy is gonna drag the team out the gutter and we’re gonna win “. I never forget the Euro cup final. Liverpool are due another player like that. Maybe if Hughes plays like he is capable of, he might get his dream move to Anfield. Maybe that’s a year or two off.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

I think Liverpool will show them that the premier league is not all about them,i also think Liverpool will finish runners up to city.

    Barnsley v Wolves.

The 0-0 draw in the Sheffield derby last night obviously wasn’t bad for us and with the right results we could go 15 clear today.

I (and many other wolves fans) said at the start that the biggest competitors for us were derby, villa, Leeds and Boro. Looking at it now it’s possibly going to work out that way, just adding Bristol into the mix who have been our toughest opponents this season.

I think it’s ours to lose now and the others will fight it out for 2nd and playoffs.

Blues host Derby and I think this is a tough game for Derby with Blues hitting form with 3 straight wins and 3 straight clean sheets. Heart wants derby to win obviously. Head wants blues to win. Can’t call it at all but at evens like BTTS. I think derby may just edge this and stop the gap expanding. I generally like how Derby play.

I can see wins for Cardiff and Bristol City today against Sunderland and Norwich respectively.

Villa have a tough task away to a forest side who have a new manager. I really rate Karanka and before we got Nuno, many wolves fans would have been more than happy with karanka at the helm. I see BTTS at 5/6 as a good bet. Like villa not to lose aswell but at 2/5 it’s not worth it.

Onto wolves. Barnsley gave us a hell of a game at Molineux. We edged it 2-1 With all goals coming late on.

I can see another close game today. I see goals and cards.

I think we will take the game today and the team will be largely the same as in our last league game against brentford. I think costa will start with Cav being held as an impact sub…. although I’d sooner start Cav. Mir will be on the bench and I reckon may get 20/25 minutes.

    Wolves 2+ goals – 8/11 – 5 points NAP

    Over 2.5 mgls – 1/1 – 2 points – NB

    Btts and Over 2.5 mgls – 8/5 – 2 points – NNB

    Wolves & over 2.5 – 6/4 – 1 point

    • nathanufton 6 years ago

I think Wolves are due a wobble but I wouldn’t sweat over whether you’ll lose points today. Barnsley were awful. They will set out to get something from the game and it will be their downfall. Wolves will mop them up – best away record in the league.
2nd down to 6th is tight for everyone, a couple of bad results and anyone in there can freefall. Derby have been trying to reel in Wolves since October, when we’ve grabbed some tough away wins, Wolves have done us no favours by matching our results and that gap has stayed rigid.
Wolves have surprised me this year, I know they’ve spent a lot of dosh but having a Portuguese manager know his onions and recruiting from his own back yard has paid dividends. I don’t think anyone will catch them and Derby also have their historic terrible season run in that usually starts in March. Surely we won’t see a 4th year on the bounce of the same old, same old. But we do seem to have quite a settled squad and a great Keeper who is bang on form. I don’t think Birmingham will get a goal today, not because of the quality of our back 4 ( that isn’t that great ) but because we have a good GK and Birmingham still look a bit toothless up front.

    • richb20806 6 years ago

Yeah can certainly see you edging blues today. They have had a good run but essentially still look awful. A few blues fans I know see it as a forgone conclusion that they’ll go down.

Wolves have surprised me mate. I saw us doing well but not to this level. Having supported them through the 80’s when we almost folded as a club and went to the old division 4 I’m not overly used to this. Used to love visiting the old baseball ground if I’m honest. Not as keen on The current place but I’m not a fan of the whole out of town stadia. Biggest fear is wolves trying to follow suit.

We havent spent anywhere near as much as people think. Our net spend this season is below £10m which I think surprises people. We have been fortunate with the mendes connection in getting some excellent Loan business done though.

I think in the main it’s Nuno as a coach where we have our biggest change. As a man manager he is something else and am gutted to say, is heading for far greater things than us. I can see him at the very top of the game. Look at what he’s done to Conor coady. Coady was awful and flirted between CM and FB. Nuno came along made him captain and played him as a CB/Sweeper…. since then he has been in another level totally. I’d say even a contender for our player of the season.

I’d be happy to see you guys come up with us…. I’d even be happy to see the villa come up…. I just think they need some time struggling like we have both experienced and a bit of a change in mentality…. the whole model of buying players at the end of their career on huge wages (ala John Terry) is tired and tested. THey reckon he’s on well over £100k per week and apparently still trains at Chelsea 3 days a week.

    • nathanufton 6 years ago

I never once rated Terry. I forgot about how Wolves freefalled. Robert Maxwell took Derby down to the third tier around the same time that Wolves started to slip. Owners and managers sometimes moan that some teams ( their own ) go up too quickly, but with the promise of a gazillion quid for getting to the promised land, I doubt there’s a team in the league that wouldn’t swap places with Wolves.
The baseball ground – jeez, we moaned when we moved, but looking back, it was a cut up farmers field with 4 crumbling stands around it. Now its all heated pitches and perfect grass. I think Derby spend more heating one of the 18 yard boxes through the winter than I do keeping my house warm.
Whenever a manager has success, their services are always in demand. If you go up, there’s a big chance you could come straight down – its a statistical fact. I just wish some owners would look at the bigger picture before they hit the ” you’re fired ” button. Your worry is – if your manager does leave, Wolves will lose that Portugal connection, players will leave and anyone coming in to fill shoes won’t have that hands on knowledge with the squad because they want to impose their own team structure and play style on the club. Then results go against them again. Pearson and Clement did just that at Derby and Rowett stopped the rot.

On a side note, I mentioned Carson maybe sneaking in the England squad…. Wasn’t Steve Bull the last 2nd tier player to go to a world cup – playing for Wolves. Damn he was good. Shame he never got a proper chance in…… 1990?? Italy??

When I first saw today’s line up of Scottish Championship matches earlier in the week, I immediately thought both teams to score looked good.

    Derby team news:

    Carson
    Wisdom/Keogh/Davies/Forsyth
    Huddlestone/Thorne
    Russell/Vydra/Lawrence
    Winnall

3 changes from the side that lost away to man Utd. Wisdom is half a surprise instead of Baird at right back, Russell in for Weimann is probably sensible, he’s a little sharper and weimann has been a little below par lately. Maybe a slot on the bench is right for him.

With Cardiff coasting 3 nil at home to Sunderland, Derby have dropped a place. So we need to come away from Birmingham with all 3 points.

Stand out bets for me are all priced with betfair.

    Derby win @ 13/10
    Derby clean sheet @ 17/10
    Vydra atgs @ 17/10
Derby win to nil @ 5/2

Vydra can catch Leon Clarke with 1 goal today. Vydra never notched in his last league game and Clarke has missed the onion bag in his last 2 league matches. Vydra was on 97 mins per goal – this has dropped to 105 mins per goal after the last league match. It is still a higher strike rate from minutes on the pitch per goal than anyone in the championship.

This game could be a ” trip me up ” but Birmingham will have a bit more confidence to come at us. I hope so because it will give derby time and space to impose their game on them.

The clean sheets we’ve been getting are largely down to the keeper, not the back 4 and even though Birmingham have been on a bit of a run lately, I think we’ll shut them out today. we’ve got to defend better at set pieces though.

Anything less than a point from the rams today and i’d say its a bad result for us.

We’re also a bit hit n miss with adding to the corners count, we are grinding a few out here and there but we don’t seem to be playing for them like we used to. There might be some value in a race to corners bet in favour of Birmingham.

Cards: Again, we’re a bit lacking. We’ve tended to get a few silly 2nd half cards without much substantial happening. Maybe as most of the results have been going our way recently, it seems the oppositions frustration has been where the cards are coming from mainly. I’m not that confident on anything that stands out. We’ve also shed a few players who like to rat at people ( martin/Ledley/Johnson/Hughes) – players not involved either because they’ve moved on, they’re injured or just not playing. We just seem a bit more organised and dare I say it disciplined.

Good luck today with your bets guys and I hope there’s some decent winners amongst us.

I won’t say Derby are home and dry but a 1 nil lead courtesy of Johnny Russell gives us something to build on. Winnall up front is not getting much action, Russell, Lawrence, Vydra could easily of notched before ht but we’ve also had to ride our luck a bit at the back twice I think. Carsons had a great save to make and Birmingham have been lacking a little in the last third.
Russell and Wisdom are linking well and Russell looks menacing. I think Derby look more likely to get the 2nd goal.

2nd half has started and it is Derby that are asking the questions. Birmingham have started the 2nd half quite downbeat.
Looking forward to the rest of it.

Spurs have been pretty good for corners at home this season averaging just under 9 per game while Everton have only averaged 2.7 per game. I dont see any reason why this should change this evening. Basically this game should be attack versus defence and it won’t be Everton doing the attacking.

    Derby win @ 13/10
    Vydra atgs @ 17/10
    Derby clean sheet @ 7/5
Derby win to nil @ 5/2

There was also a late flurry of cards, 2 for Derby, 1 to Birmingham, that ended 3-1 on the cards count but I was hesitant to tip on the cards market.

Derby also won the race to 3 corners ( to 4 actually ) but a few corners to Birmingham saw them finish I think 6-4 on them so they won that race to 5.

I’d of took a 1 or 2 nil for the rams pre-kick off but another 3 goals without reply, Vydra matching Clarkes tally of 16 and keeping a clean sheet. On a rare chance where Wolves dropped 2 pts away to Barnsley – I never saw that coming.

It looks like the big winners this weekend in the top 6 are Cardiff and Derby. I wonder how this Wolves FA cup tie will pan out midweek what with more league action next Saturday.

I will probably be quiet over the next few days and try to drum up something of value for our next run out.

Another shocking result for Real Madrid.I don’t it’s going to be long until Zidane is looking for a new job.

    • nathanufton 6 years ago

Real Madrid have been on my naughty step for a while. Dunno if its me but I think there is more chance of getting something on Athletico Madrid. I agree about Zidane, BUT I also think Ronaldo is a player who’s head drops when the results don’t go their way. I think he has one eye on a move back to the premiership. Money must be real tight in the Ronaldo household. Any more kids and he’ll be on the Jeremy Kyle show.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Ronaldo is past it now he’s 32 so he will almost definatly leave Madrid come end of season, doubt he will go to the prem though,my guess is he will look to china for big big money.Well done on your picks today top notch.

Unreal amount of goals in their games. I’d have gone much bigger on them today but McAllister was a doubt although he did start.

Had a look at this one this afternoon but not had chance to post up – apologise for brief reasoning..

    ORIZABA VS. SATÉLITES (1800 KO):

Mexican Segunda here and although it’s a new campaign, Orizaba have set their stall put with an impressive 0-7 away victory in the opener!

In fact, each of their last 4 matches have all seen 4 or more goals and with the previous H2H (August) seeing a stonking 2-4 scoreline, there’s a chance we might see a few more.

    Two selections:

    OVER 3.5 MGS…6/5
    ???

    OVER 4.5 MGS…27/10
    ?

    Good luck.

CAn anyone please tell me what the final score was in the WC friendly match between Estudiantes v Arsenal De Sarandi…Had it in a bet with 365 and they have ‘voided’ the leg. Would like to know correct score before I give them an ear-bashing…cheers

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Their official Twitter says they won 1-0 but an hour before they say they drew 1-1.
Looks like 2 friendlies might have been played and I don’t know the duration.

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

It’s likely voided due to the game not going ahead KF?

  105. kf 6 years ago

Worth queerying it with 365 livechat??

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

It’s possible they played 2 games of 45 minutes – in that case bets would be voided.
