WOLVES didn't let me down on Friday but Sevilla did – so it was one winner and one loser.

The Super Single was Wolves to win at Sheffield Wednesday and ironically my Top Treble had Borussia M'gladbach and Monaco both draw no bet and they won while Sevilla were held 0-0 at home to Levante.

Well done to all Friday's winner including Greg with his French goals nap posted from holiday in Fuerteventura.

Saturday as always is about making the right choices and there are loads of teams who look decent value.

Wolves were a 23-20 winner and I'm on another 23-20 shot for the late Super Single – Man City to beat Spurs and over 2.5 match goals.

Taking Burnley draw no bet at Brighton earlier as there is no way they should be underdogs against the Seagulls.

In Scotland there are games off at Livingston, Alloa, Berwick and Cowdenbeath.

NORTH FERRIBY UNITED VS. CURZON ASHTON:

It doesn’t take a forensic scientist to pick apart certain team’s genetic DNA and although I really like the look of a ‘Nash sides visit to Humberside to continue a dismal festive run-in for North Ferriby, there is hope!

The Villagers have conceded 2-5-4-4 goals in their last 4 but it’s worth noting that at home, they have kept the vast majority of games tight with not many seeing a victory of 1 goal or more being the deficit.

The Nash have long been one of my favourite BTTS sides and I’m keeping that on side with a bet that I think represents cracking value:

    OVER 2.5 MGS…4/6

Disappointed in Sevilla when the others sailed in.

    All over 2.5 goals

    Sevilla. 1.57 lost

Sevilla could win this game 3-0 and cover the goals bet themselves. However they have conceded in 3 from last 5 and levante scored in 3 from last 5.

    St Etienne. 1.90 won
St etieene are having an awful season (no win in 9) and have a relegation scrap to deal with. Monaco have won the last two and will be hoping kick on again tonight. Both teams average over 3 goals looking at their respective last 5 played.

    Bourg-peronnas. 1.60 won
Both teams are averaging 4 goals a game last 5. Looks primed for goals.

    Sydney F.C. 1.97. Won
While Sydney should win this game, City normally hit the back of the net at least once.

    Final Verdict

We should be in for a cracking contest on Saturday evening with Spurs taking on run-away league leaders Man City in the live tea-time kick-off from the Etihad Stadium.

Spurs have a great recent record against City, winning 3 of the last 4 and scoring 2 or more in all 4, but current form suggests they will be in for a tough time here with the league leaders breaking records and seeming unstoppable under the stewardship of Catalan separatist (and best friend of Zlatan), Senor Pep Guardiola who has lead his team to an 11 point lead before a Christmas cracker has yet to be pulled, in what has been a truly scintillating run of form for the blue half of Manchester.

Goals seem inevitable here with BTTS and over 2.5 goals the obvious selection with City usually scoring at least 2 on home soil and Spurs offering such a strong counter attacking threat of their own. Much depends on the form of Kane, Dele, and Eriksen but if Spurs bring their A game, we should see a really good football match with both sides more than capable of scoring a couple of goals each.

Indeed, Spurs have scored 87 Premier League goals in the last 12 months while City have scored 98 over the same period and I expect both sides to add to their tallies here with the visitors surely travelling with renewed confidence following their own upturn in fortunes over the past fortnight. While Spurs had certainly gone off the boil domestically, 3 successive wins over admittedly modest opposition have given Pochettino’s men a boast heading into this crucial fixture and they will travel north with high hopes, especially given their recent performances against Man City both in London and in Manchester.

BTTS and over 2.5 goals is priced @5/6 with the individual selections 4/7 and 11/20 respectively and I don’t see any other outcome with Spurs certainly likely to push City further than any other side has during this incredible run of victories. If Kane and co. do find their best form, over 3.5 goals is certainly possible at 6/5 with 6 of the last 9 meetings between these sides seeing 4 goals or more scored. Both sides have also conceded in recent weeks with clean-sheets few and far between and I would be genuinely surprised not to see this fixture produce on the goals front.

City to score 2 or more @4/9 is short but safe while Spurs to record the same feat is much bigger @2/1 but certainly has a chance considering Spurs recent record against the Citizens.

One interesting stat that caught my eye during the analysis was the frequency for second half goals in those matches where BTTS appears. 17 of the 22 goals scored in those 5 BTTS and overs matches came in the second half. BTTS in the 2nd half is 7/4 and could be worth a punt but there is no doubt that my safest calls here are BTTS @4/7 and BTTS and over 2.5 goals scored @5/6 with City short favourites at just 8/15 to claim their 16th successive league win.

Ultimately, it would be hard to back against the hosts but I do expect Spurs to make a real game of it and we should see one of the better contests of the PL season here with goals expected at both ends and while I would give the edge to City, it wouldn’t surprise me to see their run of victories come to an end with Spurs doing so well in recent match-ups.

    Best Bets

Manchester City vs Tottenham –BTTS and over 2.5 goals @5/6 – 3.5 Stars
Manchester City vs Tottenham –BTTS @4/6 – 4 Stars
Manchester City vs Tottenham –BTTS in 2nd half @7/4 – 1.5 Stars
Manchester City vs Tottenham –Over 3.5 match goals @6/5 – 1.5 Stars

    Watford win 4/5 (NAP)

Both sides have been struggling of late. Huddersfields away form is dreadful failing to score in their last 8 premier league away games picking up just 1 point from 24. Watfords home form has been a bit hit and miss winning just 2 of their last 6. They have had a hard run at home however but have managed good results against Liverpool, Arsenal, West Ham and Spurs.

Aberdeen v Hibernian BTTS 3/4 (NB)

Hibernian are unbeaten away from home all season picking up wins away at Rangers and Motherwell and also holding Celtic to a 2-2 draw. Aberdeen have been on a poor run of late but a lot of that was to do with the speculation of their manager leaving. Aberdeen have only failed to score in 2 of their home games this season and I think we can expect to see goals tomorrow.

I invariably steer clear of the prominent leagues simply for the fact that the trading teams bulk their weighting of knowledge towards them rather than the more obscure games of world football and for that I will be eternally grateful!

The English Premier League – for all it’s fur coat – is an incredibly fickle betting pit and despite it’s fancy knickers, I honestly believe that folk would profit from seeking and familiarising value elsewhere.

Still, opportunities still expose themselves and I reckon tomorrow’s North VS. South derby could be one of them.

In a nutshell, Pepe has City purring as well as Barcelona ever did (omit Messi from this – no-one in the same league as him in the last 25 years) they are an entirely different beast to anything the EPL has seen and will accelerate their dominance into the New Year and beyond

    CITY OVER 2.5 TGS…6/4

I’d put both teams in the mid/upper goal scoring bracket within the ASB Youth leauge with Welly being the better for goals seeing 4+ in 5 of their last 7.

Three of the last 5 H2H’s have gone 4 or more with the last seeing 5 match goals almost a year ago to the day.

Since I’ve been awake since midnight, I may as well pitch in my pre-Derby thoughts along with a few bits and bobs in and amongst the top slots.
Last night, I had a feeling in that Sheff Wed would edge out a narrow in over Wolves. Sheff wed have fell by the wayside a bit recently and seem a shadow of what they’ve been like this past few seasons, but with Wolves being just 1 win away from breaking the 50 points inside xxx games in the championship, Wolves would always be eyeing that one up. Wolves grabbed the only goal to galvanize the top spot. For those few teams likely to be chasing them come May, its a small blow because Sunderland somehow grabbed a 0-0 last weekend which gave the chasing pack an opportunity to close that points gap.
Just Bristol and derby in the top 6 took maximum points from their previous game, with Cardiff, Wolves and Villa drawing and Sheff Utd losing.

Last week, Barnsley made a few decent chances early on but for the 2nd away game on the bounce, we grabbed 3 goals without reply. With 5 away wins on the bounce and 2 decent draws, our away for is scintillating. Today we entertain Villa at Derby. Villa have come a long way from the dismal team they were last season and are fighting for a top 6 slot. If Villa try to park the bus, we could have a draw. That might be villas best chance of getting something from this game, but they’re still in the top 6, they’ll still have the belief they can impose their game on us which should see quite an open game. Derby sometimes really struggle to break down teams that put 10 men behind the ball, but I don’t think villa will come with that game plan.
Barnsley were over 90 minutes 2nd best last week and deserved yet another loss on the bounce and Brentford must be rubbing their hands at the prospect of Barnsley coming to the capital.
Bristol got a decent win away to Sheff wed last week, so they’ll be happy to host a Forest side that to be honest are a bit travel sick.
I know mr F has Derby/Villa down as a draw but if we’re capable of playing distinctly average away to Barnsley and grabbing 3 goals without reply, maybe that was our off day. I’m sure Derby will be fired up for this one. We have momentum very much on our side with just the 1 nil Ipswich loss being the only blip in our recent form.
Outside of the top flight, we’ve met 4 times, drawn 2 and lost 2. Derby have lost just 2 games in our last 14 ( both at home ) and Villa have lost twice in their last 18 games.

It is Derby’s purple patch though that I’m more intrigued by. October/November is usually when Derby put a decent run together, but our last 3 seasons in December matches have been none too shabby. I think you would have to go back around 17 or 18 December Derby matches before you’ll come across a loss. I think it is around 11 wins/5 draws from our last 16 matches played in December.

Derby’s Welsh winger picked up a foot injury last week, so he’ll be missing, but I think we have enough players of the right fit to fill his shoes. Vydra’s strike rate is still top quality and he’s still just a few goals shy of the championship leading scorer.
For those that never saw Scott Carsons incredible save against Barnsley last weekend, its worth watching the highlights on YouTube.

My money this weekend will be on a nice juicy treble:

    Derby win @ 11/8
    Bristol @ 17/20
    Brentford @ 3/5

    all prices with Betfair

£20 has every chance of delivering £140.60

I should be up around 2pm with team news and last minute thoughts.

    Good luck guys.

    • nathanufton 6 years ago

There are plenty of fans moaning that we’re not playing free flowing end to end footie as of previous years – which has got us nowhere. The manager has taken a lot of stick, in particular regards Craig Brysons loan to Cardiff. Twice our player of the year, but he’s not hit that form we saw 3 seasons back when he grabbed 17 league goals. I’d of liked him in the squad but I think the manager is trying to put his stamp on the squad and make it his. Rowett did well at Burton, got poached by Birmingham – shown the door when he had the team drawn for 6th spot on goal difference and derby took him. He can grind out results with very little cash to play with but I believe the owner is sick of forking out money for little return. I think its a no brainer having him at Derby, we’re getting the results, our consistency is gaining all the time and we’re winning matches when we’ve not played particularly well.
We also seem to up our game though with the ” tough on paper ” teams we play. We’ve George Thorne yet to really get his teeth into a starting 11, Nugent and Martin and a little misfiring up front but the attacking 3 behind the front men seem to be where our goals are coming from.
Come January, the league top 6-8 will teams will be about where they’ll be come May. I just hope we have enough about us to not implode as we have done from February onwards. Maybe its a saving grace that we’ve drawn Man Utd away in the 3rd round of the FA cup. An unwelcome distraction, but i’d really like to see us maintain this run of results right through this uber-hectic period over the next 3 weeks.

    Man City v Tottenham
Tottenham double chance at 7/5 (NAP)
Been watching Man city over the past weeks and they have done a great achievement by winning a series of games on the trot breaking records but watching them they haven’t been that great, scraping 2-1 wins which i suppose is what champions do.Take the Manchester derby for instance City scored from two set pieces and nothing from open play, now Man Utd were poor and nothing else.Todays game i expect a completeley different game and there’s a couple of reasons i take this bet number one is reading the team news Kompany doesn’t start as he’s not fit that leaves Otemendi and Mangala as the two centre backs which spells trouble against the likes f Harry kane and Son.the other reason is Kyle Walker against his old side which i expect to add fire to this game which i reckon we could see a red card or a few yellows flashed, all in all if Tottenham are on their mettle then i don’t see them losing this game.

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

Well I hope you’re right, would make things a tad bit more interesting if Spurs get something out of this game.
Hope Harry Kane has put his shooting boots on today.

Hi gents. Watford get to face a Huddersfield side who have conceded 2+ in their last five away games. 16 in total with 3, 4 and 5 goals conceded against Liverpool, Arsenal and Bournemouth.

Watford have lost their early season form but should have more chances for a win today. They’ve scored 2+ in three of their last five at home and I expect the same today.

Rotherham have been struggling at home recently albeit against some decent sides whilst Plymouth have been keeping it tight away only loosing to Portsmouth 1-0 in the last month with a good win at Bradford, a victory at AFC Wimbledon and a commendable draw at Blackburn combined with a couple of victories at home to drag themselves off the bottom of league one. Having a pop at Plymouth d.c. @ 7/5.

    Derby team news:

Derby County: Carson, Baird, Keogh (C), Davies, Forsyth; Huddlestone, Ledley; Weimann, Vydra, Johnson; Nugent

Nugent comes in for Martin, Johnson back in the side in place of injured Tom Lawrence.

I know Villa have a bit of an injury situation and some big names are a few weeks away from being match fit.

still sticking by my guns and saying the rams should triumph today @ 11/8 with betfair.

Yep has been the case all season long

I’ve literally only done 2 bets today, German juniors lost, but the 6 fold came in (the one I didn’t post obvs)

This season is by far the toughest for picking out favourites – apart from City there has been hardly any consistently performing teams in UK. A couple in EU but look at Real and to a lesser extent Barca this season…
