May 5: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

JOHNB banked a lovely 8.8pt profit on Thursday thanks to his double-stake pick Teodoro.

He’s now just 0.2pts down for May and is backing Churchill to prove a class above the rest in the 2000 Guineas on Saturday. Our man says: “We are already on at 20-1 but after seeing the runners left in I am happy to go in again for what will be a procession.”

Well done anyone else who posted a Thursday winner and keep your tips coming for Friday’s action.

JohnB- u seem very confident about Churchills chances, does it not worry u that O’Brien as had a few over the years(most recently Air Force Blue) that have not trained on from 2 to 3? Cheers

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 3 weeks ago

Churchill looks like he has trained on and I always said Airforce Blue wasn’t as good as he was made out to be which is why I went against him

  2. Profile photo of gazh

I hope your right for everyone on at a big price. I personally can’t see any value in its current price but good luck.

  3. Profile photo of jimron12
    jimron12 3 weeks ago

Don’t forget that war fronts horses don’t train on like Galileos do… I’m confident have a lovely pay check coming been on a few times
Since his second win and jb highlighted….

Have rhododendron at a nice price singles and double too so would be great weekend…

  4. Profile photo of gazh
    gazh 3 weeks ago

I hope it comes off for everyone. I just think if Eminent was trained by O’Brien it would be going off at a much shorter price and even vying for favouritism. Apparently it wasn’t 100% fit before the Craven- but it posted a time that only 1 winner of the Guineas as ever beat. BOL

    Johnb 3 weeks ago

I have heard that Camelots first crop are looking really good, maybe a classic winner out of them and I think Camelot is the one to take over from Galileo for Coolmore

Bomber always like a rev tri cast for the 2000 and a double with 1000 already on church / rhododendron ante post

      Johnb 3 weeks ago

Dream Castle doesn’t do anything for me, I am not sure about Godolphin horses in Classics as the powers that be are doing too many thins wrong, I do though think Lancaster Bomber could get a place and 33/1 looks far too big

This is what I posted on the other thread regarding the 1000 Guineas

It’s a race I’m not too bothered about betting in but it’s always nice to get the winner, the money has come in a big way for WINTER but I can’t see enough improvement for her to win, there is room for improvement but I think not enough, Rhododendron is the worthy favourite, the best form in the book and should win but as I said in my 3yo’s to follow I really like TALAAYEB, she oozed class on debut and she looks the part, she looks special, so for interest reasons only I am going for

      1st Talaayeb 12/1
      2nd Rhododendron 2/1
      3rd Dabyah 16/1

You had Promise To Be True down as a 1000 guineas tip but it seems she needs much more than a mile. My pick for the Oaks was Coronet but seems she is running in a G1 in France next week, so im looking to my second choice. What chance do you think Promise To Be True has if she runs in the Oaks?

    Aidan O’Brien 2000 Guineas winners

    King of Kings (1998)
    Rock of Gibraltar (2002)
    Footstepsinthesand (2005)
    George Washington (2006)
    Henrythenavigator (2008)
    Camelot (2012)
    Gleneagles (2015)

All of his seven winner went straight to the Guineas and didn’t have a prep run, it seems to work

Almost a lovely day for me yesterday. I tipped a treble which had 2 winners and a 2nd. I started off writing my post eith the intention of backing royal brave, as mentioned tipped him at 6s lto when declared s nr, then I went against my gut and sadly that cost us. Godolphin pick let us down whilst 5/1 Hughsie was sadly shed in the betting but came up short, prominent throughout but hit a few fences and didn’t last home. For fun I sadlymaheduggested a b.Hughes combo, he didn’t have the best days but sendyim win Hughsie race and started fhe day at 9, which to a level sadlymaheduggested ame was profitable.

Points wise, 2/3 singles won returning 4.25 profit, with a 3.25 loss on the L15. We lost 0.25 on the day and end 17.92 down. Tad disappointing considering we got 2/3 winners so I have a think about things.

Bol today, hopefully some tips up soon.

Just wanted to ask, with D/Ns recent success in mind. Anyone winning 100pts have an advantage as they can start to back longer priced horses risk free. But if this isn’t mentioned when tipping, people who missed the 100pt month are betting from zero and could be backing more speculative choices. Think it is an idea to maybe mention if you tip is a little speculative. This being said following dn to me is a very sound idea regardless if you missed his first month.

Points are really irrelevant due to virtually everyone on here not betting singles 1 pt stake, It can sometimes give a misleading figure. People are using enhanced stakes doubles trebles . Someone could give four winners and a loser and be plus 10 maybe, another could be four losers and winner and be plus 12.;it’s still up to you whether to follow anytime all the time or to what stakes. Yes it does give an indication as to how confident the tipster feels . There are fabulous tipsters on here with a wealth of knowledge I just feel that sometimes people are getting a bit consumed in the points situation.

If you’re on for big enough Gengar could always considering covering a bit by laying on the exchanges. Personally think how the money comes in the last 5 minutes or so will show how confident connections are. Im on for 20 quid each way at 20s so hoping the beast runs his race!

You won’t recognise him, he’s bigger, stronger, muscle where muscle is meant to be and more, he has got the perfect shape he strolls about like he owns the place and he is supposed to be a lot quicker
In the past for 3yo’s in Classics I have backed Golden Horn, Sea The Stars, Camelot, Zafonic, Rodrigo De Triano, Pennekamp and many more but Churchill excites me, if he wins the Derby it will shock breeders worldwide because he is bred for speed but I can see him winning both the Guineas and Derby, I may be wrong but I don’t have one single worry about tomorrow
