TWO top-10 seeds fell at the first hurdle on Tuesday as Eugenie Bouchard and Grigor Dimitrov bowed out of the French Open with barely a whimper in straight-sets defeats.

It’s round two on Wednesday with defending champ Maria Sharapova locking horns with fellow Russian Vitalia Diatchenko and Simona Halep and Carla Suarez Navarro among the other big names in action.

Garbine Muguruza has previous of Roland Garros heroics after knocking out Serena Williams last year and she is 1-3 at Skybet to get past Camila Giorgi, who is priced up at 28-11 by Unibet.

In the men’s second round Roger Federer, Kei Nishikori and Stan Wawrinka look for comfortable progress while the unpredictable Fabio Fognini is 3-10 at Sportingbet against home favourite Benoit Paire (3-1, BetVictor).

Other Wednesday sporting highlights include cycling’s Giro d’Italia and the opening match of rugby league’s State of Origin showpiece Down Under. Good luck with your bets and post your tips and thoughts here.

    evening all.

i was hoping the more tennis minded folk could lend some assistance to me.

with the football season finishing i’m to turn my attention to tennis.

i don’t particularly want to back winners for the same reason as in football so here comes my query..

its came to my attention set betting is similar to goals betting whereas over 3.5 sets is pretty much both teams to score.

my theory is that if the bookies are offering almost identical odds on both players to win the match then surely over 3.5 sets is a great marker. once i had this train of thought i went to check the odds. both players were 5/6 to win the match and the over 3.5 sets market was 1/2. Am i missing something or does 1/2 sound like great value given how well matched in ability the players are?

    all thoughts are welcome!

    • craigyboy 3 years ago

I like that thought. Sod it, I’m going to pick out two similar priced tennis players and make me a treble.

  8. Jordan 3 years ago

Unlucky aj mate. If the game was closer you would have probably won those.

Months ago I posted saying if there was bet available for the Cavs and Warriors to be the two finalists then I’d recommend taking it. Looks to be coming good.

Been a great first season for me on the NBA. Thanks to Huggy and DeAndre (wherever you are) for getting me into the hoops on the betting side of things. Almost at the end of the season but fear not, 3 months until the NFL and the NBA starts again on the 27th of October 😀

    • Dazid316 3 years ago

Atlanta Hawks ML @ 5/2 1 point LOST
      Cavs win 118-88
Done a cover at the start of 4th quarter
Cavs -28.5 @ 11/4 .5 points so got stake back

Jordan good J.R Smith got the points needed before they all got rested in 4th

Have to thank you and Huggy and Picksix for the NBA tips over the last few months. Been reading site for a while but only started posting over the weekend there.

  9. aj 3 years ago

I reckon so Jordan, unfortunately the Hawks didn’t show up at all. I think your finalists bet is safe (obviously), personally can’t see GSW not winning the next game provided Curry is fit and well again and he appears to be from what is on the web.

  10. Jordan 3 years ago

Dazid no worries mate, it was a season of beginners luck more then anything I think, but now I can take what I know into next season which should be good for everyone on here.

Aj, Curry came back in the game mate so I think he’ll be fine. I don’t think the Warriors will win easily but they should have enough to beat the Cavs over 7 games. Fingers crossed anyway. Right I got work in 4 and a half hours so I’m getting a few z’s. Night lads.

    • Ad 3 years ago

pp, I must say I have nagging doubts about that treble. All three have proven themselves unreliable so far this year and all three are in match ups they could come out worse from if either they have a slightly off day or their opponent has a goodun. I would pick them all individually if pushed, but with reservations. Stil, if all goes to plan you’ll be laughing all the way to the bank! Good luck

QLD win all the matchups, have the speed & the better class. Plus they have revenge for losing last years series. As usual, the 1st Origin match of a series will be very defensive and thus low scoring.

  21. Shotty 3 years ago

Cheers Attila mate just took Queensland to win as a bit of safety hope they do the job in a low scoring game

  22. aj 3 years ago

    Thanks Picksix.

I only got into at the back end of this season so I’m still learning.

Think GSW Will get it done tonight so going to check the first half team points later on.

I like Curry on the overs too (who doesn’t?) However have a concern if the Warriors were well up by HT or the end of the 3rd they may rest him for the finals after his knock the other night. Harden of course is another who could go over after his performance in game 4. Rockets will need him to play like that again to stand a chance.

Although both of my games were close last night, They managed to squeeze in for winners. Nearly as importantly is that the reasoning for the picks was generally correct too. This pleases me, as it means I’m on the right track.

I knew this past week was a good one and so having looked at my B365 history, in the last 7 days, I have placed 13 MLB bets, all of them were over evens and landed 11. This gives me a profit just shy of £220 (or 10.87 units with a flat 1 unit stake for each bet).

The reason I am sharing this is because obviously, an 85% win rate is not going to continue but just a 46/47% rate, at flat stakes, should show a small profit.

It would be impossible to maintain an 11:2 win/loss ratio… BUT… if in the next 13 picks, I get just 6 (rather than 11!), I should not have lost any money and could show small profit from those bets.

This should be very achievable in the long term if I stay disciplined in level stakes and continue looking for underdogs that should be favourites.

  34. Felix 3 years ago

Steve – Definitely not an easy match up for Monaco. Gabashvili has power and is probably just hitting through monaco. Was doing the same to cuevas a few weeks ago until he had a mental collapse, which is his main weakness.

    Euro Baskrtball Single

Rogaska @ Tajfun Sentjur (Thurs 5pm)

I had these two in a winning bet yesterday on the first half totals and although they have been set lower this time round I still think there’s good value to be found. As mentioned yesterday, The two previous games before yesterday both had 70 & 60 first half points and decided to take the 71.5 which sailed in when both teams only managed to hit 54 points. Hoping to see both teams focus largely on their defensive play again and I’ll be looking for under 69.5.

First Half Total: Under 69.5 @ 11/10 Coral

Alternative First Half Total: Under 72.5 @ 2/3 skybet

  50. Harry 3 years ago

Another cricket post from me, and unsurprisingly more England bashing. Won’t go too much into my reasoning as I’ve had all that on previous posts. But long story short, we aren’t good enough to win a test match against Australia. We just abouts crept past New Zealand at Lords, with the brilliance of Stokes and Root bailing us out. In my opinion it was their bowling that let us win, and it won’t be comparable to the pace and quality we’ll face from the Aussies. Also, we allowed New Zealand to score 500+ in their first innings. If we give this kind of chance to Australia we won’t get so lucky with a chance of winning. I believe rain is our only hope of avoiding anihilation in the summer, hence backing the 3-0 too, and having not yet checked the weather, my gut is telling me 4-0 is most likely so I’m staking slightly bigger on that.

Someone described an acca as ‘safe’ earlier which included Fognini….the least safe player you could ever imagine! He will probably win the second set 6-0 or 6-1 and it’ll be back to the drawing board, but trying to predict a match between Paire and Fognini is just an impossible task. Both absolute clowns who are capable of top class tennis and capable of collapsing or throwing a set or a match at the drop of a hat.

Not much time for an explanation but here is what I will be on today:

    1) KC Royals at NYY @2.30. I would usually not go against a top pitcher like Pineda at home but at these odds, KC are too good to pass up. Also who would have thought that the Yankees might sweep them before game 1 started? I’m going against it!

    2) SF GIANTS at the Brewers @2.00. The Giants are in fine form with the bat and despite Vogelsong’s struggles this year, should see off (and sweep) the Brew-crew today.

    3) TEXAS at Cleveland @2.45. I’m not so much thinking that Texas should be favourites here but it should be much closer. I really don’t rate this Cleveland lineup that highly and have mentioned over the past few days that Texas’ bats are heating up nicely. Also Texas starter, Lewis, is quietly have in nice year.

    Im all over that shotty

    2 bets from me tonight

Curry to outscore harden 1/1 £50
    Harden under 30.5 points 10/11 £55

  81. aj 3 years ago

I’m on GSW to score over 29.5 first quarter points @ 1/1 (SkyBet)

I think this bet will be tight but at evens I’m having a go. GSW have managed it in 2 out of 4 of the series games. They should come out and start fast as they will want to get the series wrapped up. If the Rockets win tonight it becomes tight and GSW will of course be well aware of there comeback against the Clippers in the previous round.

    Other Bets:
    Curry Over 29.5 @ 83/100 (PaddyPower)
GSW to win and over 216.5 points @ 6/5 (PaddyPower)

Ad, absolutely superb yet again. I have followed you since end of last year if you remember and have always come on sniffing when the majors are on and am I glad I did so for French so far. I actually was away to tip Johnson at 10/3 on Sunday and I had him on and also sock yesterday I’d seen but was to late to put on as he was 2-0 up rubbish odds. So when I seen you mahut tip I had faith in you and put 40 on at 4/1. Amazing. Congrats yet again and always been a long admirer of your knowledge. Just wish you could keep on giving tips as much after majors aswel to most tournaments. Always worthwhile following people. Superb

Thanks Eastcoaster, very kind words! I have my ups and downs, and sometimes failed attempted upsets make me look a bit silly, but hopefully I land enoughat good prices to mean profit in the long run. I’ve been really busy recently so have watched very little of the clay season and i might be a bit off the pace, but hopefully I’ll be able to watch some tennis this week and make some good plays.

I was so close to tipping Johnson too, didn’t even back him in the end, gutted! Missed Sela too but you can’t back em all. Sock and Mahut have made this a pretty good week so far. Glad you were on Mahut @ 4’s, well done mate.

    Speculative Basketball Five Fold

    Points Spread: Alba +9.5 (pending)

    Money Line: Kuban (lost)

    Points Spread: Chalon +16 (win)

    Money Line: Partizan (win)

    Points Spread: Olympiakos -5.5 (win)

5 fold @ 9/2 Skybet (small stakes) Lost

    Good luck!

The speculative 5 fold was downed when Khmki score seven 3-pointers in the 2nd quarter. Kuban fought back but couldn’t make up for it! It didn’t seem that speculative for a while as the rest romped home. To think I originally had Fenerbahce -5 makes it even more frustrating, they let my treble down a few days back losing badly to their opponents so decided to leave them out…looks like they’ve just squeezed over the line!

Gimeno Traver + 9.5 v Ferrer and over 27.5 games, both at around 9/10, look good. Pretty decent form, playing very well against Federer recently amongst other good performances.when he’s not on his game he can be very wasteful, which Ferrer laps up, but these two met recently and despite the fairly comfortable score line it was a very competitive match. Low totals here, not going big but worth a little bit of my dosh.

  88. Iddy 3 years ago

Ad I like that Ferrer over 27.5 games call. I might have a bit of that.

Few thoughts on tomorrow’s tennis I’m not an expert though so would like to hear peoples thoughts

    Sousa +9.5 handicap
    Mayer to win
    Kokkinakis win
    Ginemo-Traver +9.5

    How do they look guys?

    • Ad 3 years ago

Shotty- I would be wary of Sousa on the handicap. It’s an awful matchup for him and if Murray is on his game he will get blown away. The head to head reflects that. He was crushed 6-0, 6-2 by Murray in Dubai this year and and lost by 11 games over three sets in Australia. Doesn’t bode well!

    Tomorows tennis

    Sock 2/5
    Stephens 2/5

Double pays 1.96 with sky. GL if you follow

  91. thereddevils 3 years ago

A question for the tennis tippers.
I’m thinking about Goffin – Giraldo over 3,5 sets @1.65
I can’t see Goffin winning it in straight sets. What do you guys think? Goodnight all!

  92. Ad 3 years ago

I would probably agree with you there reddevils. I’ve been considering Giraldo for the win as Goffin hasn’t been that convincing this season but will probably leave that alone. Could well be tighter than the bookies think though

  93. thereddevils 3 years ago

Thanks Ad, that’s what I was thinking. I’m probably gonna watch it live and maybe get something on Giraldo. But still, it’s hard to bet against a compatriot!

    • Ad 3 years ago

Ah you’re from Belgium? Must be a big Fellaini fan!

      • thereddevils 3 years ago

And a United fan. Yep, he’s awesome with his elbows ^^

  94. Picksix 3 years ago

    NBA bet

    Steph curry over 29.5 points @ 5/6
    (Double stakes)

Surely , surely this should land

If harden does not score more than 2 points against curry my pre series bet on curry to outscore harden @11/10 will also land

    Fu*k the beard

These are there points so far

    Steph curry – 130

    James harden – 128

    That’s some big numbers

    Good luck gents

  95. Picksix 3 years ago

    Ah it’s 1 point a push if it’s 2

    Betfair currently doing:

Place a £25 bet on any NBA play off games and if the game goes to overtime get a £25 refund.

  97. Picksix 3 years ago

Lol jus had a read through the thread looks like a lot of us are depending on curry to bring the bacon home

  98. Shotty 3 years ago

Ad thanks for the advice mate I might leave that one or go unders on total games?

What do you think of the other choices too?

    • Ad 3 years ago

I reckon Mayer should win and Kokkinakis too. Might need to double them to make it worthwhile
Though. I also like Gimeno Traver + 9.5, looks good

    • Ad 3 years ago

I tend to leave unders alone because all it takes is ten minutes of lost concentration to blow it. And Murray has home walkies a few times this season against steady players. Personally I would just wait to see how that one shapes up.

  99. Jordan 3 years ago

    Draymond Green (Warriors) Double Double
Deportes Tolima no clean sheet (Colombia Primera)

    EVS @ 365 – 2.5 points

No bet day? Who am I kidding.

  100. Ad 3 years ago

I’ve just placed a little fun small stakes acca for anyone interested. It’s 7/1 or so and will almost certainly get blown by wozniaki or Gasquet blowing it!

  101. Shashu 3 years ago

I’ll have abit of that Ad, added stephens and serena 2-0 to get it above 11/1.. Heres hoping

  102. tomekplnd 3 years ago

A Blackhawks & Dodgers double surely looks great at 6/4

  103. Ad 3 years ago

Sloane is hard for me to trust. Hopefully she’s focused for you

  104. Attila 3 years ago

I’m on a game double of Queensland to WIN & UNDER 36.5 points @ $2.50.

  105. tomekplnd 3 years ago

Attila what do you think of the double I posted above?

  106. Attila 3 years ago

    – Chicago Blackhawks ML @ $1.69 (3 points)

    – Houston Rockets +10.0 @ $1.92 (2.1 points)

    – Washington Nationals ML @ $1.78 (2.4 points)

  107. Jordan 3 years ago
