RED BULL usually gives you wings but last night they gave me wind – and a bad dose of it.
I picked the wrong game to go all in on goals and with the Salzburg side drawing a rare blank at Sturm Graz I lost eight points on the Super Single and also saw the Top Treble bombed.
No matter what anyone says form and stats pointed to plenty of goals in the game and it’s easy to suggest otherwise in hindsight.
Red Bull**** may have cost me eight points but to be fair to the Austrians they’ve won us plenty this season.
And anyway we’ve got a new but familiar goals tipster posting from tomorrow so if I call it badly wrong you can always follow raaljaca.
I admitted I was struggling to call the Rangers-Hibs game but at least my Daily Record Super Single came up – first goal after 28 minutes – and that was tipped here too.
Strangely I’d have had a good night if I’d focused on the three main games. The first goal tip was my most confident at Ibrox and I advised under 2.5 goals at Arsenal as the Gunners were too short on the WDW market.
And I also suggested both to score at Lazio v Juventus as opposed to taking Juve to win in 90 minutes simply because of the game being played in Rome. Now what was it was saying about hindsight.
While the Top treble profit remains in good shape the Super Single total has taken a big hit and while I’ll do well to turn it round this month I’ll give it my best shot.
I haven’t got as much time as usual to do research but I’ve picked out a Top Treble from looking at some of the games more familiar to me.
Sivasspor gave me a Super Single winner in the first Turkish Cup Final when they beat Galatasaray but lost on aggregate. The second semi sees Fenerbahce entertain Bursaspor with a 2-1 lead from the away leg.
It means Bursaspor will have to attack and that’s what they do best. Despite sitting sixth in the table they are top scorers in Turkey with 68 goals from 32 games. League leading scorer Fernandao has 22 – four ahead Besiktas star Demba Ba – and Fenerbahce will be aware of his threat.
The problem for Bursaspor has been keeping them out at the other end and they’ve conceded 44 and lie 17 points behind Fenerbahce. The one downside to this bet – and there’s always one – is Bursapsor lost 1-0 at Fener in the league last month and have failed to score on three of their last four visits.
However, the fact they have two strikers in form, need a goal and have netted 18 in six since losing at Fenerbahce has persuaded me to go with both to score but it pays just over 1-2.
Add both to score at Malmo v Hacken. I wanted to take Malmo for the straight win but they haven’t beaten Hacken in seven meetings. They’re unbeaten this season though with five wins and three draws and are also about 1-2 to win. Their last five matches have seen both score as have three of the last four meetings and Hacken have hit the target in 13 of their last 15 outings.
Complete the treble with Anderlecht to beat Kortijk in the complicated Belgian play-offs. Kortrijk have lost three in a row and their only hope is to win a Europa League place while Anderlecht must win to keep their title hopes alive as they trail Gent by four points with two matches to play – and Gent could tie it up by beating Standard Liege tonight.
Even if overcoming Gent – who they face on Sunday – is unlikely Anderlecht will want to stay ahead of Bruges, who travel to Charleroi and are one point behind, in the race for the second automatic Champions League place.
Bruges haven’t lost in 13 meetings with Charleroi but have been beaten three in a row since overcoming them 3-1 in the play-offs at home. They’re worth a look at 1-1 with Coral and I’m taking a chance with them on the Super Single because if they win their last two and Anderlecht don’t it’s Bruges who will qualify for the Champions League.
Anyone with more knowledge about the chances of Gent and Bruges tonight is welcome to comment.
Raaljaca’s first goals post will be on Friday and if you get a chance read his message that was put up last night.
