May 2: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

JOHNB put up three big-priced horses on Monday but none were winners.

He’s hoping for better luck today with two Yarmouth picks.

In case anyone missed them his April stats were 39.46pts down. From 27 Naps he had 12 winners which was a 44.44 per cent success win rate.

Well done everyone who had Bank Holiday winners and good luck on Tuesday

Having read yesterday’s thread, I decided to go back through the racing thread archive to get John’s stats for this year. Including the 3 points lost yesterday, John currently stands at a loss of 157.84 points. Of course this is far from ideal. However, as stated by several before, John brings much more to the table than just daily tips. Not to mention the fact that no one is forced to back his, or anyone’s tips for that matter. John has knowledge beyond most of us put together. His run of form isn’t good, granted. But a slight change of luck and that deficit will soon decrease.
All comments on here should be constructive and positive. We all have the same target, and that is to beat the bookies. So let’s all try to work together to achieve that.
By far and away the best racing forum on the Internet.
keep up the good work everyone. Tuesday doesn’t hold much interest to me, as I am better with jumps racing. However, I will swill give the flat a try. But I will be relying upon contributions from everyone on here too!
    Good luck all

      La casa tarifa-

Distance and conditions ideal , Johnston and Norton are both going well , comes into this class 3 races with 2 good wins under her belt, firstly at a class 5 then a 3 , gets weight for age here so comes in bottom weight against horses mainly returning from a break and rated below her , so to receive weight is great,

Highly tried last year but ran some solid races mainly in a class 2 where she came second of 19, that race threw up winners,

With the fitness edge. Weight for age, conditions and trip ideal has to be a confident selection

    Just the one bet today

Makes his chase h’cap debut today having aquired his mark with runs against the likes of Min and Anibale Fly so was clearly out of his depth but has been given a mark 13lbs lower than his hurdle rating. He has also run 3 times at the track with form figures of 221 so clearly enjoys it here. Has won twice both times on good ground which he also gets today.

D/N nice start to the month for you well done yesterday and nice to see DavyB back. Hope all is well

-23.32 since tracking, almost 25% of our bank down, no need for alarm yet however. A NR wasn’t ideal yesterday and we lost 3 pts with my Kate ew shout coming short.

300 b – cosmopolitan girl 3/1, huge break to contend with but a lovely combination and I am expecting a win despite top weight and a short fav to overcome. NAP 3pts

    L15 0.2pts (3pts)

230 b – Baby Gal 8/1, 3 very capable winners in front of her in the betting, two are returning from over 100 day breaks, I do love the fanning/johnston combination too. Channon has a short priced fresh favourite too, but at 8/1 I am happy to add her.

600 w – Frap 13/2, I watched this horse win a year ago, a poor record since but given the trainer had a lovely day yesterday and the jockey booking, he is worth and punt in a small stakes multiple.

240 n – Desert Explorer 3/1, couple of decent runs in a compact little race, either up against newcomers or those with long lay offs, that is besides the dreamy hanagan/fahey horse ‘Lord comander’, and it may sound silly but horse names relating to the tv show, game of thrones, have a remarkably good record, oberyn, viserion, sir jamie, my khaleesi to name but a few.

310 n – Thaqaffa 2/1, the fact alan tipped this almost made me choose another horse, so the thread has 1 more horse to mull over, however he does seem to have a good chance and could provide us and nice profit if it comes in a on with one of the bigger priced horses above.

Untracked yankee based on todays posts and literature: hint of grey 325y, lorelina 335b, linger 520, on fire 450n.

    Morning all,

Yesterday was one of those days where everything seems to go wrong. It started badly when Oscar Rose was beaten by a 50/1 shot in a headscratcher to beat my double and continued in the same vein throughout the day. That was a poor start to the month but I am hoping to get back on track today with a confident selection.

    15.00 Brighton – Bahamian Sunrise 6/4 & Insure 2 places 10/11

The key to Brighton is course form and Bahamian Sunrise loves it around here. His record at the East Sussex venue stands at: 2212 (beaten a nose and a neck in two of those seconds), I think he can improve that record today. On his seasonal debut a week ago he finished a close second over 6 furlongs (recording a very fast speed figure). He was only nabbed on the line that day as his stamina drained, the drop back to 5 furlongs today will be spot on and he remains on a very attractive mark (72). Everything looks in place for a big run this afternoon and he rates as a strong selection. My only nagging doubt is that Brighton has not been a happy hunting ground for me in recent years and therefore I am going to utilise the ‘insure places’ market alongside the win market. This market offers you a shorter price about a horse but rewards you with your stake returned if the horse places (similar to Asian Handicaps in football markets), as a punter who likes to minimise risk I quite like this market from time to time. Therefore, I will be playing 7.5 points on the insure market @ 10/11 & 3 points win @ 6/4 this afternoon.

    16.20 Nottingham – Plead 7/1 EW

The top weight Plead in the 16.20 Nottingham looks worth of a small investment this afternoon. This unexposed horse ran a respectable third on his last start over C&D – traveling well into the race. While she has been raised a further 2lbs I think there is still milage within her mark of 77. She likes it around Nottingham and conditions should be in her favour. In a trappy contest she might just offer some value at 7/1 (0.75 points each way).

Many thanks and GL to all

It is also worth noting that with the claim of George Buckell Bahamian Sunrise receives nearly 1 stone in weight from his market rival.

        juicin 1 year ago

Also I backed against it so everything is going for it today, should maybe considering an increased stake haha, bol.

Well done Juicin – I think it would have been a different story had Bahamian Sunrise not been badly hampered at the start!!

          • Profile photo of

Keep your eyes out for Bahamian Sunrise next time he didn’t run his race (after losing lots of ground at the start) today and will be on an attractive mark.

But that does us no favors today- that’s racing

            • Profile photo of juicin
              juicin 1 year ago

Cheers harry, will keep in mind your advice, however your pick didn’t lose any ground on mine, just raced wide throughout whilst cosmo girl had mr fanning on board.
              Keep up your good work.

              • Profile photo of

Your right Juicin but it has now been confirmed that the saddle slipped on Bahamian Sunrise which as you know will have left him with no chance. Nevertheless, well done with your winner I might have to follow you tomorrow! My luck has turned with Plead going down by short head!

                BOL in the future

Yea was definitely not ideal, will keep tabs on it, as you say he should be on a nice mark.

One swallow doesn’t make a summer haha, I am just a novice enthusiast, who is learning his craft, as I said, keep up your good work, invaluable stuff. Able to learn a lot from your write ups and tidbits shared about what types of systems you use.

Placed some bets late last night. Here’s my each way Yankee based solely on the 2 AW meetings this evening
    6.40 Power Power 13/2 now 5/1
    7.10 Abjar 4/1 now 7/1
    8.00 Gabrial The Thug 6/1 now 7/2
    8.40 Mighty Zip 7/1 now 2/1

Shame Abjar is letting the bet down with a drift. The other newcomer I liked in the race, Mabrook, was 8/1 last night and now 11/4. So I wish I had picked that one instead.

    Win Yankee tonight
    7.30 Masterson 11/10 now 5/4
    7.40 Ickymashoo 5/2 now 3/1
    8.10 Zac Brown 5/2
    9.00 Prince of Time 2/1 now 5/2

Also have daytime bets, all of which I think have been mentioned on here already.
    good luck all

A looks back to 18th June 2016 when Churchill was officially tipped for the 2000 Guineas and The Derby, although I did mention him before he had even set foot on a racecourse in May,

    Johnb 11 months ago

I can’t say Cunco won’t be a good horse because he will be a good horse, but what I can say is he won’t be a great horse, he won’t be a classic winning horse,
I do the majority of my studying through race recordings, watching reruns over and over again because you learn more from watching horses than you do reading about them,
I look at the build of a horse, I look at how they run, their action and the horse that stood out was Churchill,
There are some nicely bred horses in this race but none are bred as well as Churchill,
Cunco won on debut but his race wasn’t as strong as Churchill’s race which was a strong maiden,
although only coming third on debut there was a lot to like about Churchill who raced keen and to be honest he looked like he was going to be nearer last than first, but at the furlong pole he realised what he was meant to do and that last furlong was impressive,
Connections of Churchill have been saying a lot of good things about him after his Curragh run, including this horse being their second best chance of a winner at Ascot and with Order of St George being their best chance of a winner.

I can’t always be right but whatever happens on Saturday win or lose, Churchill will be Coolmores number one horse for classic glory next year, in my opinion

Why I don’t touch too short a horse anymore, I used to almost start to think it can’t lose, found the risk isn’t usually worth the reward either, and as we know horse racing isn’t straightforward, lots of inside knowledge the punter isn’t privy too, bol 2moro.

Top day for alan and 5barone, todays summary:
I decided to place my biggest bet so far (3pts) on my sole single today and luckily no finger nails even came close to being lost, we even got a little drift and collected a nice 12pt profit.

Once again the multiple didn’t reap rewards as I put together a combo that saw only one 11/4 winner. Frap has now been wiped from my chalkboard completely. Desert Explorer may be worth another go whilst baby gal could go better if over shorter next time out. Result -2.25pts.

Overall we recouped nearly 9.75pts and end the day -13.57 overall since 19/4/17.
