WAS Aston Villa DNB my most disappointing tip? Possibly. But it doesn’t matter whether a selection loses 1-0 or 6-1 – the consequences are the same.
There’s no getting away from the fact Villa were awful but they’d won four of their last five matches and I didn’t see many people tipping Southampton to win BEFORE the game. I lost £36 on the Villa tip but won £43.20 on the Top Treble thanks to Bayer, Monaco and PSG so overall it wasn’t a bad day.
It would have been better if Lille had netted in the last game to bring up the goals treble but cover was available for anyone who wanted to go down that route.
The Super Single stats could be better but every tip requires a 100 per cent success rate so it’s not easy whittling it down to the correct one. I could have taken Augsburg who also lost and I was close to picking Norwich against Ipswich or Kilmarnock who won 4-1 at Partick at a big price.
I won’t let the Villa score change the way I pick my selections and on Sunday the Super Single is Barcelona at Atletico Madrid. Barca will clinch the title against the side who lifted La Liga on the final day last season so revenge could be sweet.
Barca will be in good spirits after hardly breaking sweat to reach the Champions League Final and their recent record against Atletico is superb – seven wins and two draws in nine and three wins out of four at the Vicente Calderon.
Team news suggests Luis Suarez is a doubt but with Lionel Messi and Neymar also in great form it’s hardly a worry. Barca were a best 3-4 with the likes of bet365 and Betfred but I’ve just backed them at a best 19-20 with McBookie and BetVictor – and that’s good news.
I’m staying in Spain to start the Top Treble with Valencia and Rayo Vallecano. Valencia will clinch a Champions League place ahead of Sevilla by beating Celta Vigo at home as they won their h2h with Sevilla.
Vigo are tricky opponents but Valencia’s home record stands up against anyone’s – in fact it’s identical to Real Madrid’s with 15 wins, two draws and one defeat. They’ve won their last four at home to Celta and with such a huge incentive should pick up the points.
Rayo Vallecano have nothing but pride to play for but have good form against sides in the bottom three. They face relegated Cordoba who haven’t won in 18 and have suffered 15 defeats in that spell. Their motivation died a long time ago and Rayo, who have only lost one of their last five, should add to their misery.
Complete the treble with another side looking to clinch Champions League football. Lazio’s win against Sampdoria has pushed Roma back to third and the sides meet next week in a vital derby.
Roma will want to go into that one back in second spot with a victory against Udinese under their belts. Udinese have nothing to play for and have lost three and drawn one of their last four to the Olympic Stadium.
