I WAS searching long and hard for a hidden gem yesterday – and all the diamonds turned out to be close at home.

For the second day running I landed a first-scorer Super Single. On Tuesday it was Mario Balotelli at 5-2 and last night I tipped Queen of the South's Nicky Clark at 4-1 with McBookie.com.

Clark struck inside the first minute to possibly land my fastest Super Single of all time.

I also tipped Falkirk at 19-10 to dump crisis-hit Dunfermline, Dumbarton draw no bet at 29-20 v Raith and a victory for Queens at 5-6 as they clinched the Second Division title.

My hidden gem, however, crashed as Belenenses went down to Vitoria in the Portuguese Cup. So sometimes it pays to stick with what you know best.

Tonight there is a Serie B card which has been kind us recently and I'm going there for my Super Single. The big game features leaders Sassuolo at home to second-placed Verona and I can see the away side causing some problems.

Sassuolo have drawn their last two games and maybe the edge has been taken off their game after being so far ahead in the title race. Verona have won their last three away games and closed the gap to nine points.

They are a biggest 12-5 at bet365 and Coral but the way to go could be Verona draw no bet at 11-8 at William Hill.

As my last two Super Singles have been first scorers I have to mention the man in form, Daniele Cacia whose double for Verona at Crotone last weekend took his tally for the season to 18. Can't see a price for him but hopefully they'll be up later.

There's a fairly big card tonight and the likes of William Hill have got dozens of games on their both teams to score coupon so I'll put a treble or fourfold on another post.

Super Single

Verona draw no bet
(11-8, William Hill)

      Friday March 29, 17.30 GMT
      Live on Sky Sports One
The Eagles have the chance to draw first blood in the Championship promotion race over the Easter weekend as they entertain a revitalised Birmingham in the first of a live televised double header.

      Crystal Palace
Palace’s hopes of prevailing in the gripping battle for the second automatic promotion spot took a knock with the 3-0 crushing at bitter rivals Brighton in their last match but it is their home form which has been the rock on which their successful campaign has been built this season. Just one defeat (back on the very first day of the season in August) is the best record in the division and the Eagles have scored comfortably more goals (47) on their own patch than anybody else.

Striker Glenn Murray has scored an incredible 29 goals in 34 starts this season. Manager Ian Holloway was hit with an FA rap after watching his side held to a 2-2 draw by Leeds last time out at Selhurst Park and will need to keep his composure during the promotion run-in as his men battle it out with Hull and Watford for the second automatic spot alongside Cardiff.

      Birmingham
Birmingham now have 49 points, which in most seasons would mean they are safe and could start planning their summer holidays. However, the compressed nature of the Championship this season and recent good form of the sides in the relegation places means they need at least one more win and possibly even two to be totally sure of survival.

Their recent revival means that shouldn’t be a problem though. The win at Middlesbrough last time out meant they have now lost just two of their last 12 league games and they have scored in each of the last five games. Nikola Zigic seems to be back in favour after his bust-up with Lee Clark and has scored the first goal in two of their last three away matches.

      Over/Under 3.5 Goals
Palace have averaged nearly two and a half goals in each of their home games, while the Blues seem to play with more freedom away from St. Andrews. That makes over 3.5 goals an attractive bet at 3.2

To Score It’s not an original selection but Murray has scored seven times in the last five league matches at Selhurst Park so has to be backed at the best available price to score at anytime.

      Recommended Bets
Back over 3.5 goals at 3.2
Back Glenn Murray to score at any time at 1.9

      Wigan 1.9 v Norwich 4.2; The Draw 3.5

Wigan are odds-on to overcome Norwich but that’s a brave bet on a team that have won just three of their 17 home games in all competitions this season.

March and April are to the Latics what Christmas and Easter are to Christians, but there has been no consistent progress about their campaign, to the extent that their two league victories since Boxing Day were both followed by 0-4 reverses. They won their last match against Newcastle.

They are the only Premier League side without a home clean sheet, their average concession rate as hosts (2.13) being a divisional high. Their only DW Stadium triumphs came past West Ham, Reading and Newcastle. Against clubs beyond the bottom eight like Norwich, their record reads P9 W0 D2 L7.

Norwich have drawn five of their last seven and all five of their other trips to the bottom-six occupants, sharing spoils in nine meetings with bottom-eight dwellers in total.

Michael Lintorn’s selection: Back The Draw @ 3.5

      Nottm Forest 2.15 v Brighton 3.3; The Draw 3.25

This is a clash that at first glance is between two of the Championship’s most in-form clubs. But on second glance, one team – Forest – are most definitely in form, while Brighton are playing well on home soil but away from home they’re not so hot.

Forest have won six on the spin under Billy Davies and beat second-place Hull away from home last time out, and while the fear is that their good run has to come to an end sooner or later, I feel they have to be backed here at what appeals as a very generous price.

Brighton have won just one of their last seven on the road, and their last three away games – all against bottom half clubs – mustered just one goal and one point.

Mike Norman’s selection: Back Nottm Forest @ 2.15

      Colchester United 3.25 v Bournemouth 2.1; The Draw 3.25

Bournemouth are hopefully over their mini-wobble and look back on track for the title having won their last three games in League One. Forward Brett Pitman has scored in all of those clashes, and Cherries boss Eddie Howe has stressed how keen he is to boost their goal difference.

For me, Bournemouth are improved due to some of their players returning from injury, allowing the best footballer in League One, Matt Ritchie, to play in a more advanced role (he was filling in at left-back). And with them in-form again, I make them a good bet this Friday.

Alan Dudman’s selection: Back Bournemouth to win @ 2.1

Bristol Rovers 2.06 v York City 3.7; The Draw 3.25

Some Opta stats put York’s task into sharp focus: Bristol Rovers are the top team of 2013 (with Northampton), with 32 points from 16 games; York have just 10 points in the calendar year. In fact, they have led on just 15 occasions in the 2012-13 season, a divisional low.

Rovers might have kept only seven clean sheets – a league low – but three have come in the last five games and five in 10. Cynics might suggest that York lack steel and grit – as they are the only side to not have had a player sent off this season.

City boss Nigel Worthington has a huge task, then, to gain anything here, even if he has high hopes of his latest recruit Adam Reed who has basement battle experiences with Portsmouth and Leyton Orient.

Home boss John Ward might be “sad” to see the club that gave him his first job as a manager struggling and indeed it was the Minstermen who inflicted a 4-1 win to see Mark McGhee ousted from the Memorial Stadium. But, despite York clocking up 10 away draws, The Pirates ought to have enough, having rattled in nine goals in their last four games at home.

Ian Lamont’s selection: Back Bristol Rovers @ 1.95

      Recommended Bets

Back The Draw in Wigan v Norwich @ 3.5; Back Nottm Forest @ 2.15; Back Bournemouth at 2.1; Back Bristol Rovers @ 1.95; The Multiple pays approximately 30.0

    2 VERY INTERESTING GAMES SATURDAY

    DIV 1
    cowdendenbeath v PARTICK THISTLE
    DIV 2
QUEEN OF THE SOUTH v brechin

Firstly partick are in great form and so are queen of the south, both sitting top of lgs, partick winning last 5 and scoring 18 conceding just 1, queenofthesouth unbeaten in 16 and winning 13 of 15 home games drawing 2,goals for 35 and 6 against, but you already knew this didnt you?Well heres the interesting part, the above teams have played each other just 3 days previous to these games, yesterday wednesday 27th march,Partick winning the exact same fixture 3-0 away and Queen of the south winning in a reverse game away to brechin 6-0.If anyone knows a reason why we shouldnt use these 2 games to ”buy money” please say but im looking at backing Partick at around 4/7 and Queen of the south on the handicap -1 at 20/21,the more adventurous can get -2 @12/5 and even -3 @11/2,given the 6-0 mauling they inflicted on brechin AWAY just 3 days previous to these games i cant see why they cant win in a similar fashion at home. Good Luck.

  10. Craig alves 11 years ago

    Looking to the weekend.

    Scottish div1.

    Livi – dunf
    home win 8/11

Surely a great price as away team could lose players this week.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Balir, for anyone thinking about backing Livi do it now because their price is likely to crash. From what the administrator said last night there will be severe cuts today and boss Jim Jefferies said some players will have played their final game for the club last night. It’s likely to be a very young and inexperienced Dunfermline side on Saturday.

  13. Peebs 11 years ago

Sean, Queen of the South won the league with last night’s win. May rest players this weekend as have Cup Final with Partick Thistle next Sunday.

    • Sean Ireland 11 years ago

Already backed them but their manager already realizes Brechin may give them a tougher game so hopefull tat e will not make too many changes as tey will want to celebrate in front of their home fans, also given the fact these players are not on huge wages the win bonuses are something they wish to collect, that plus the 6-0 win away tells you there is a huge gulf in class between the 2,would take a complete overhaul of the 1st team to make me worry…managers quote: Thoughts now turn to the Ramsdens Cup Final against Partick Thistle on April 7th as Queens look to secure a historic double.

Johnston: “[The double] would be nice but we have a match coming up at the weekend first. It’ll be a tighter game, I`m sure they`ll be really disappointed in that performance and they`ll make it harder for us. We’re playing for places in the cup final as well so I`m sure we`ll still have an edge to our play.”

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Sean, comments in today’s Record about how much bevvy was on the coach last night for a party, quite a long journey from Forfar to Dumfries for any players going the whole way, although many probably dropped off in Glasgow. I’d beware of backing Queens at the weekend and the manager will know his side for the Ramsdens final and could well rest some at the weekend.

    DENMARK.

3 games from the Danish Superliga today where the bookies are way wrong on the game in Odense between OB Odense and visitors Randers.

Odense keeper, Jesper Christiansen, and his defence have been bad and conceded 9 in the last 4 games where 3 was lost and 1 drawn. Randers are not having the same problems and have won their last 4 conceded just 1 goal and are priced very
high against a Odense side they’ve met twice this season and beaten twice.

I’m not saying Odense won’t win but are you going for value go for Randers.

    Odense – Randers (6.00 UK)
    Randers +0.5
    Odds: 1,82
Stake: €15.00 (or 3% of my fixed €500.00 bankroll for this Danish series)

Horsens – Aab Aalborg (2.00 UK)
Horsens +0.25 (half odds if draw)
    Odds: 1,55
    Stake: €18.00 (3.6%)

    Silkeborg – Sonderjyske (4.00 UK)
Silkeborg -0.25 (half stake lost if draw)
    Odds: 1,82
    Stake: €15.00 (3%)

    ALTERNATIVE BETS:

    Horsens
Odds: 2,45 / Stake: 35% of your total stake on the 3 games

    Silkeborg
    2,19 / 39.17%

    Odense – Randers DRAW
    3,32 / 25.83%

1/3 = -14% of your total stake on the 3 games
    2/3 = +71%
    3/3 = +157%

Super single tonight has to be Empoli away to Pro Vercelli!

Empli have been on a fine run and been scoring goals, especially away from home! They lost last time out at but that was to a Bari team who had won 4 of their last 5!

    Away from home Empoli’s goals in their last 12 games reads 3 – 3 – 2 – 2 – 3 – 3 – 1 – 0 – 3 – 2 – 3

Pro Vercelli are second from bottom and have only won 2 of their last 11 home games!

    Empoli to win 11/10
    Over 2.5 match goals 19/20
Empoli to score over 1.5 goals 1/1

  17. Milesey 11 years ago

off to Italy for our first pick of the day – and focusing our attentions on the second tier, as Crotone welcome out of form Spezia to the Ezio Scida Stadium, looking to secure their fifth win in six outings on their own patch.

Massimo Drago’s side sit 13th in the division, but their recent results belie that position – and three clean sheets from their last four points to a level of consistency which outweighs their relatively underwhelming standing ahead of this tie.

The Calabrians will be full of confidence here, and 20 games undefeated from their last 23 in front of their own fans – a run which stretches all the way back to early February last year – suggests that they are particularly good value for the three points tonight, and in the bigger picture, likely to better last campaign’s 11th placed finish.

Visitors Spezia travel from Liguria in the midst of a miserable run of results – and no wins in eight will have the Aquilotti nervously looking over their shoulder.

Luigi Cagni’s side sit in 19th place in the table, and are just four points ahead of Vicenza, who occupy the final relegation position, with nine left to play.

But just one win on the road since October suggests that the away side tend to suffer from travel sickness – and ultimately, it could be their form away from the Stadio Alberto Picco which returns them to Lega Pro 1.

And just one goal scored in their last three away from home indicates that the visitors are somewhat lacking in the final third, meaning that they could struggle against a Crotone rearguard which has hardly put a foot wrong in recent weeks.

    Bet 1: Crotone (HOME) @ 2.28

Over to Denmark now, as Randers travel to OB in the Superliga, aiming to make it five league wins on the bounce – and cement their place in the top two, with third placed Nordsjaelland breathing down their necks.

Colin Todd’s side have kept three clean sheets in a row ahead of this one, and will be desperate to maintain that defensive consistency as they look to secure their place in next year’s Champions League qualifiers.

And just one loss from six league games on the road suggests that the Hestene are more than capable of taking maximum points from this clash, to build on a confidence boosting 2-0 defeat of Brondby in their last clash away from the AutoC Park Stadium.

Hosts OB go into this one with no wins from their last five competitive encounters – and that leaves them sitting in sixth place with the finish line in sight.

Troels Bech’s side have been inconsistent on their own patch in recent weeks – winning just three from eight – and nine goals conceded in their last four league games points to issue defensively.

Randers have won the last two meetings between these sides – and I reckon they’re cracking value at 3.8 for the spoils here.

    Bet 2: Randers (AWAY) @ 3.8

    HOME AND AWAY DOUBLE

    • Milesey 11 years ago

i watched it, and Sri Lanka were getting a run a ball, no 4’s, 6’s, just hitting it into the deep and running, i looked at the way the game was going and could see over 0.5 at evens was a nice bet, you can do it off every ball in the over, but you have to be quick for it stays up for 20 seconds, never done it before in play, but could see it was a nice double your money at that time ;).

As well as Empoli there are 2 other attractive looking aways Italy tonight – Novara and Brescia!

First up Novara away to away to Cittadella, unbeaten in their last 6 away games, scoring 2-4-6-1-1-2 and are unbeaten in their last 10 league matches! Cittadella sit 8 places below Novara in 15th an have only won once in their last 15 games! At home they have drawn a lot of matches but again have few wins to shout about!

Next up Brescia visit Ternana – a team who have hit a blank in 4 of their last 5 home games! Brescia sit just inside the playoff places after a good run of results which has seen then win their last 3 away games!

    Recommendations: 4 singles

    Novara win 13/8
    Novara over 1.5 goals 13/8

    Brescia win 17/10
    Brescia over 1.5 goals 2/1

Braunschweig are odds-on for their clash with Dynamo Dresden in Germany’s Bundesliga Two ,tune in to Betfair Live Video at 19:30 for a surprise result.

Eintracht Braunschweig are pushing for promotion to the top flight and in truth, with an 11 point gap over Kaiserslautern in third, it is highly likely that they will be plying their trade with the likes of Bayern Munich next season. Obviously promotion is the main objective but finishing top is still something to keep them motivated and they are just a single point behind Hertha BSC.

I do have a few concerns about their recent form though. A late goal at Bochum 12 days ago was their first win since the middle of February. They lost to both 1860 Munich and MSV Duisburg before picking up a draw with Kaiserslautern. Manager Torsten Lieberknecht hasn’t led his side to a home win in 2013 as The Lions have played three, drawn two and lost one.

Dynamo Dresden remain in the relegation play-off place after losing their last two fixtures. They had been getting some good results before that though and since Peter Pacult was installed as manager, Dynamo had lost just one of six matches, two of which were victories.

On the road, SGD have only lost two of their last half dozen and while they didn’t win during that period, a draw would do us just nicely this evening. Dynamo lost to tonight’s opponents in the reverse fixture back in October, but they will at least take heart from the fact that that was Braunschweig’s first victory against them since 2010 and Dresden actually won at Eintracht-Stadion last season.

Based on recent form I think the home team are a little short at around the 1.72 mark, and that’s why I’m making them my lay of the day.

    Recommended Bet
    Lay Braunschweig v Dynamo Dresden @ 1.72

To Italy, where 10 of Sassuolo’s last 14 Serie B home games have produced Under 2.5 Goals and so have 9/11 of Verona’s most recent away matches.

Recommended Bet: Back Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.78 in Sassuolo v Verona

  80. Greg Browning 11 years ago

Mixed results tonight – 3 out 6 for my singles, still enough to give a good bit of profit! Super single Empoli produced the goods again, shame they only managed one goal!

Novara romped to a 6-2 to win for my single and over 1.5 Novara goals

Brescia went down 1-0 after being reduced to 10 men!

On to tomorrow’s card now, off work, soccer Friday :)

  81. Badham 11 years ago

  89. Mike Jackson 11 years ago

Next time Ternana are playing in Serie B, I’m putting some money on them, they were a decent price to beat Brescia and won 1-0 and drew with Sassuolo last time.

Any chance you or milesey could do a rugby league stat page. Love tour tips and mileseys. My old mate Big H used to make lots of money by betting the team under ten points on the handicap to do it and anything over ten points he would side with them. Amazing how many times this system comes in. As for the football, Tranmere look overpriced at home to sheff utd this weekend. I watched them on sky against stevenage- they looked pretty good. I would also like the phone number please to open a BETFAIR account. Thanks steve.

      Castleford (13) v Wakefield (10)

Castleford have Australian winger Justin Carney back from a two-match ban while front-row forwards Jonathan Walker and Jake Emitt are in contention for a recall. Hooker Adam Milner drops out of the team that lost at Hull KR.

Wakefield are at full strength following the postponement of last week’s game against Leeds, with scrum-half Tim Smith fit again, along with forwards Justin Poore, Ali Lauitiiti, Danny Kirmond and Andy Raleigh. Kyle Trout, Frankie Mariano and Matty Wildie all make way.

      Last season: Castleford 12 Wakefield 40, Castleford 26 Wakefield 32, Wakefield 16 Castleford 34.

      Last six league matches: Castleford L D L L L L Wakefield W W L L D L.

Top tryscorers: Kirk Dixon and Jake Webster (Castleford) 4; Ben Cockayne (Wakefield) 8.

Top goalscorers: Jamie Ellis (Castleford) 16; Paul Sykes (Wakefield) 18.

      Hull (9) v Hull KR (8)

Hull are still without influential Australian duo Daniel Holdsworth and Shannon McDonnell through injury and are set to stick with the side that drew at London.

Hull KR coach Craig Sandercock has recalled prop Adam Walker in place of Rich Beaumont in the only change to the side that beat Castleford on Sunday.

Last season: Hull KR 18 Hull 32, Hull KR 32 Hull 30, Hull 36 Hull KR 6.

      Last six league matches: Hull D L L W L D Hull K R W L W W L W.

Top tryscorers: Joe Arundel (Hull) 4; David Hodgson (Hull KR) 6.

Top goalscorers: Daniel Holdsworth (Hull) 10; Michael Dobson (Hull KR) 29.

      Salford (14) v Huddersfield (1)

Lee Gaskell is set to make his Salford debut at centre after joining them on loan from St Helens while interim coach Alan Hunte has handed a first senior call-up to centre Edwin Okanga-Ajwang, who will be vying with Niall Evalds to take the place of injured winger Danny Williams.

Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson recalls prop Anthony Mullally from his spell at Batley in place of the rested Larne Patrick and includes 18-year-old back rower Peter Aspinall in his 19-man squad for the first time.

      Last season: Salford 20 Huddersfield 30, Huddersfield 34 Salford 38, Huddersfield 36 Salford 10.

      Last six league matches: Salford L W L D L L Huddersfield W W L W W L.

Top tryscorers: Ashley Gibson (Salford) 4; Shaun Lunt and Jermaine McGillvary (Huddersfield) 5.

Top goalscorers: Marc Sneyd (Salford) 11; Danny Brough (Huddersfield) 27.

      Widnes (12) v Warrington (3)

Widnes are boosted by the return of England forward Gareth Hock, who was forced to sit out the recent defeats by Catalan and Wigan, while prop Steve Pickersgill is in line to face his old club after displacing Ben Kavanagh.

Warrington recall centre Rhys Evans in place of the rested Chris Bridge while back-row forward Ben Harrison is set to make his return after missing the last two months with a hernia problem.

      Last season: Widnes 14 Warrington 52, Warrington 68 Widnes 4. Warrington 46 Widnes 12.

      Last six league matches: Widnes L L W D L L Warrington W W L L W W.

Top tryscorers: Patrick Ah Van (Widnes) 4; Joel Monaghan (Warrington) 7.

Top goalscorers: Rhys Hanbury (Widnes) 9; Brett Hodgson (Warrington) 27.

      Wigan (2) v St Helens (5)

Wigan are set to be unchanged as long as skipper Sean O’Loughlin and hooker Michael McIlorum recover from the knocks they picked up in last week’s win over Widnes.

St Helens are to give a debut to utility player Stuart Howarth following his arrival on loan from Salford. He will help plug one of the gaps created by the absence of Jonny Lomax, James Roby and Lance Hohaia. Prop Anthony Laffranchi returns in place of the injured Tony Puletua while coach Nathan Brown also includes youngsters Anthony Walker, Mark Percival and Lewis Charnock in his initial squad.

Last season: Wigan 18 St Helens 26, St Helens 16 Wigan 42, St Helens 10 Wigan 28.

      Last six league matches: Wigan L W W W L W St Helens D W L W W W.

Top tryscorers: Josh Charnley (Wigan) 9; Jonny Lomax & Francis Meli (St Helens) 7.

Top goalscorers: Pat Richards (Wigan) 32; Jonny Lomax (St Helens) 11.

      Wigan Warriors vs St Helens
I had my concerns about the Wigan pack last week, but they proved totally unfounded faced with what was a pretty dire Widnes performance, and whilst they face a much sterner test up front this week, they should have too much creativity for Saints

The Saints pack looks the better of the two, but with Roby, Lomax and Hohaia all missing from the Saints nineteen, they look woefully short on creativity. Even if they do manage to get on the front foot at, they will surely struggle to put Wigan away, and their lack of a specialist goal kicker is still a worry.

Wigan should have too much for Saints on this occasion, especially if Sean O’Loughlin is passed fit to play, and they can give up a start of 8.5 points.

      Recommended bets

      1 pt Wigan Warriors -8.5 pts @ 1.91

      Hull FC and Hull KR
The last of the live derbies should be an entertaining one given how Hull KR are going at present, but their free-scoring habits have hardly gone unnoticed by the bookies, and the total points line looks about right.

Neither side have really been able to get a run going this season and FC actually sit outside the top eight after the Robins’ win over Castleford saw them leapfrog their neighbours. The Robins should have run out more convincing winner than they eventually did last Sunday as it was individual howlers that led to at least three of the opposition tries.

The loss of Daniel Holdsworth to another injury is a bitter blow to FC and certainly tips the balance in KR’s favour for me. In a game where I can see very little between the two sides, I’m happy to take the 6.5 pt start available on the away side.

      Recommended bets

      1 pt Hull KR + 6.5 pts @ 1.91

Good Friday in super league, means one thing Wigan v Saints derby, having landed 3 bets out of 4 recommended bets last week, I’m hoping for similar today. I mentioned last week Wigan’s lack of forwards and the lack of grunt upfront, nobody off that list is expected back yet they exploited Widnes out wide and put 60+ pts on them. Saints are missing a couple of key players including puletua + Roby. Roby is a big miss, but if St Helens are going to win this ,they need their pack to dominate, force Wigan up the middle, and shut off the edge. Wigan with their injuries need to put ball through hands and go wide like they did against Widnes, Blake Green & Matty Smith can organize this team and, I expect Wigan will win and with Sam Tomkins who is the league’s best players I fully expect Tomkins to score and a Wigan win today.
