Bet 1: Back Coventry to beat Portsmouth at 2.05

It’s a battle of the debtors at Fratton Park on Saturday as Portsmouth take on Coventry. The hosts are in administration and the visitors in dire peril of ending up in the same fate, which could involve a promotion-thwarting points deduction.

Portsmouth have been in the bottom three for most of the season and are eight points from safety, but have picked up in recent weeks, only losing one of their last five, managing two wins and a creditable draw at league leaders Doncaster last weekend.

Coventry had also been on a reasonable run of form, and are just three points off the play-offs, having had to fight hard against relegation-threatened rivals in their last two games at the Ricoh. Away from home, the Sky Blues have won their last five away games in all competitions, and they should prove too strong for Portsmouth.

Bet 2: Back Northampton Saints to beat London Wasps at 2.25

There are five rounds to go in the Aviva Premiership, and with Saracens opening up a healthy lead at the top, the closest battle is for fourth place. Three teams are within three points of each other as they fight for the final play-off spot, and two of them go head to head at Adams Park on Saturday.

Northampton are three points ahead of Wasps and Gloucester, but they have tough games against Leicester and Harlequins to come, so need to take this chance to increase their Premiership lead over their play-off rivals.

Both sides will benefit from the return of their England stars, but whereas Wasps have been faltering in recent weeks, losing to Worcester and London Irish, Northampton appear to be over their mid-season blip and have won their last three. Saints have a good record against Wasps, winning their last seven and can prevail on Saturday.

Bet 3: Back Hull FC to beat London Broncos at 1.52

Twelfth plays ninth in Saturday’s Super League clash at the Twickenham Stoop. The overall record in meetings between these teams stands at 20-16 in Hull F.C.’s favour and they’ve won the last five encounters, the latest being a 14-12 victory last year.

Broncos had a poor start to the season, losing their first four matches, but they’ve steadied the ship in recent weeks with a couple of wins, although those successes were against two of Super League’s lesser lights, Salford and Castleford.

Although Hull have lost four of their seven matches so far, they have beaten Bradford and managed a creditable draw at St Helens along the way. Broncos will be boosted by last week’s win that lifted off the bottom of the table, but Hull are the stronger team and can earn their first away win of the season.

Total Odds for this multiple: 7.01
      —————————————

Colchester United 3.55 v MK Dons 2.30, the draw 3.60

How disappointing have the MK Dons been this season? The perennial play-off merchants are needing six wins from their last eight according to their manager Karl Robinson, if they are to have an outside chance of making the end-of-term games – but it’s looking highly unlikely.

Long have I been a fan of Robinson too, a progressive young coach, great thinker and good talker, but it’s not quite been his campaign. The 32-year-old hit out at some of his squad after Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Crewe, and according to those reports, some players might not be featuring anymore.

Colchester are still fighting in their quest to stay in the division and battled heroically to beat Bury 2-1 on Saturday with 10 men. The back-four withstood a tremendous amount of pressure and defended crosses superbly. However, they will face a different test against the stylish Buckinghamshire side this Saturday.

Opta stats point favourably to the visitors too, as the Dons have won their last four successive league games with Colchester (scoring 14 goals in total).

The price on MK Dons is a bit thin, but I am hoping Robinson plays a few of their talented youngsters to give a fresh feel to their football. And fresh legs is something Joe Dunne’s Essex side might be lacking a bit at the moment, after the gruelling game last weekend from his thin squad.

      Recommended bets:
      Back over 2.5 goals @ 2.20
Back MK Dons to win @ 2.30

      Northern Ireland v Russia Betting

Due to be played 15:00 Saturday

Northern Ireland may still harbour faint aspirations of attaining a top-two finish in Group F, but anything other than victory against a Russia side that they have not beaten in five previous clashes (including as Soviet Union) would extinguish those lingering flames of hope.

Michael O’Neill’s tenure as the national team manager is a litter of disappointments interspersed with a single beacon of encouragement – a 1-1 draw in Portugal in October 2012. Dropped points at home to Luxembourg and Azerbaijan mean that the hard-fought qualification campaigns for World Cup 2010 and Euro 2008 are now distant memories.

Russia, meanwhile, have won all four of their World Cup qualifiers to date without conceding a goal, while they have lost just one of their last 24 internationals in all competitions, winning 13 and drawing 14. Odds of 1.55 on an away victory are more than fair and well worth taking advantage of for those undeterred by short prices.

The difficulty of O’Neill’s task is amplified by the absence of Kyle Lafferty and Chris Baird due to suspension and Dean Shiels due to injury. Martin Paterson does, however, return to the squad following a self-imposed break from international football whilst he regained full fitness following a series of injuries. Aberdeen striker Josh Magennis has also been called into the squad to replace the injured Jamie Ward.

Fyodor Smolov, Oleg Ivanov and Anton Shunin were all trimmed from Fabio Capello’s 27-man provisional squad, while there was a late call-up for Lokomotiv’s Dmitry Tarasov. Andrei Arshavin, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Pavel Pogrebnyak all continue to be left out of the fold.

Despite the expectation of a comfortable win for Russia, we shouldn’t necessarily anticipate a goal-glut at Windsor Park. Norn Iron have managed to score a total of just three goals in their last five games, a run of fixtures that includes matches against Luxembourg, Azerbaijan and Malta, while they haven’t scored more than once in a competitive home game since meeting Faroe Islands here back in August 2011.

The Russians also don’t tend to score many, while conceding even fewer. As mentioned above they have yet to concede a goal in four World Cup qualifying games under the stewardship of Capello, while they have only scored more than twice in a game once in their last seven matches including international friendlies. Under 2.5 goals is suitably short at odds of 1.66.

And the man we should be looking to give Russia all three points here is Roman Shirokov, who can be backed at odds of 6.6 to break the deadlock and 3.4 to net anytime. The Zenit St Petersburg midfielder has scored in Russia’s last three internationals and in four of their last six, including a goal against Northern Ireland last September.

That meeting six months ago, Capello’s first competitive game in charge, ended 2-0 to the Russians. Viktor Fayzulin netting the other goal of the game. A repeat scoreline is currently trading at around 6.4.

      Recommended Bet

      Back 0-2 Correct Score @ 6.4

What a game this promises to be. An 11th straight win for Western Sydney will secure the Premiers Plate while Sydney need to stop their fiercest rival if they want to have any hope of appearing in the finals. its game on at Parramatta

way any luck Paul some of the UK get the go ahead and can have a look at a few last minute bets I had a look at Switzerland this morning they seem to short at a best 4/7 should be strong enough to cover the -1 handicap @ a best 6/4 I think also for me its a toss up between Eren Derdiyok and Innocent Emeghara 2 break the deadlock both 7/2 @ William hill and betway. that weather seems crazy first day of spring and its Baltic with snow its no to clever here either its only 21c at 7pm am sitting with a tracky on

a resurgent Preston North End side look to make it three wins on the bounce at Deepdale, by taking maximum points against Leyton Orient.

The hosts have lost just one of their last half a dozen outings, and boss Simon Grayson will be delighted with that return, which leaves his side sitting 16th in League One.

Eight points now separate PNE from the relegation places – and, with the end of the season in sight, another win or two should realistically see them safe following a disastrous start to the season.

And Grayson will be keen for his charges to make the most of home advantage here, where they have won their last two games 2-0, and looked comfortable victors against sides going well in the league (Bournemouth and Stevenage, respectively).

Leyton Orient travel north west sitting 10th in the division – and are just three points off the play-off places going into this clash.

But just one win from their last five away from Brisbane Road suggests that the O’s are suffering a bout of travel sickness – and that threatens to derail their campaign at this late stage.

Russel Slade’s side are going great guns on their own patch, and have won their last three in the capital, but they have kept just three clean sheets from their last 10 on the road, and those defensive weaknesses could play a major part in the outcome of this clash as they line up against a PNE side which has notched in all but three of their last 13 at Deepdale.

    Bet 1: Preston @ 2.3

Dropping a division now, to League Two – and leaders Gillingham line up on their own patch, aiming to move three points closer to securing the title.

Martin Allen’s side have been largely consistent this campaign, but four draws and a win from their last five suggests that they have lacked cutting edge, and their lead at the top of the table has been cut to five points.

It’s worth noting that those four draws all came on the road, and the Gills have lost just two of their last six on their home patch – which will give them hope of taking maximum points here.

The hosts will be keen to make the most of their home advantage, with a tricky tie at Fleetwood on the horizon next week – and this could be the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways, with their visitors having lost eight of their last 10 on the road.

Accrington go into this one just two points clear of the drop zone, and will be keen to put further space between themselves and the bottom two in order to relieve some pressure.

But the Lancashire side have not even managed a goal in five of their last six on their travels, and that suggests that they may struggle to breach a Gillingham back line which has been miserly all season.

Leam Richardson’s side have kept just two clean sheets in their last dozen outings away from the Crown Ground, and I reckon that the home side will have too much attacking quality for Stanley to cope with.

    Bet 2: Gillingham @ 1.6

Staying in the fourth tier for our final selection, and Barnet host Cheltenham Town at Underhill, looking to secure their fourth win on the bounce in front of their own fans.

Edgar Davids’ side now find themselves two points outside the relegation places – and this is a huge game for them, as they look to make the most of their home advantage in the capital.

The Bees have now lost just one of their last 12 in front of their own fans, and that makes them one of the most in-form sides at the wrong end of the table, which will give them much confidence ahead of this clash.

And incredibly, Davids’ side have conceded just one goal in six outings on their own patch – a whopping nine hours of football.

Cheltenham travel to their hosts sitting fourth in the table – but just one win from their last eight away from the Abbey Business Stadium suggests that their league position is lying a little bit at the moment.

Mark Yates’ side have kept just one clean sheet in 12 on the road, and a 3-1 defeat at Burton Albion last time out saw them comfortably beaten.

And with seventh placed Rotherham just three points behind the Robins, the pressure is on Yates’ charges to secure a positive result here – but I think that the hosts are the real value bet of this tie.

    Bet 3: Barnet @ 2.5

    TOP TREBLE

    Bet 1: Preston @ 2.3

    Bet 2: Gillingham @ 1.6

    Bet 3: Barnet @ 2.5

The stakes are only because this game went so good earlier Brisbane Strikers 2 – 7 Brisbane Olympic, so just hope this one continues in the same way.

that’s a stroke of luck Milesey

remember when chucking dosh at these games that the players are absolute shite most of the lads are most probably cash rich fifo workers that are all whacked out there minds on Charlie in conclusion be careful with your money mate

    • Milesey 11 years ago

was lucky for i kept chasing that 5th goal right at the end, and lucky to get out of that one, had the win, and over 3.5 , the over 3.5 came in within 35 minutes, then chased all second half right upto the 5/1 for over 4.5 goals when the market went down, lucky lucky……. won’t be doing that again, time to go and sit on the toilet ;) ;)

  59. tadgh 11 years ago

I too was a bit sweaty lol

    • Milesey 11 years ago

haha ;) that was a killer, having to watch them lines going up and down the pitch, i said the other night i wouldn’t be doing that again, and there i was again today watching ” dangerous attack ” waiting for the market to close for that normally means a goal, thought there was one in the 85th minute but they shut the market for a yellow card haha, i chased that 5th goal hard all the way to the 89th minute and the market shut, lucky to get out of that game, but the original 2 picks came in, the over 3.5 was abit easier then getting that 5th goal, was out to 5/1 for the over 4.5 in the 88th minute and i got on again ;) ;)…. got to laugh, but that could have been a disaster.

worst rangers team in history !

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Stephen, it may well be. Some would say it’s the first Rangers team in history, others would say it’s the worst because it’s the lowest level they’ve had to play at. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter because they will be at worst Scotland’s second best team again in a couple of seasons.

  74. Mr H 11 years ago

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Mr H, yeah I saw that last night. I remember him destroying Celtic when playing for Twente I think a few years back. Should be a good signing although not sure why he’d want to go to Norwich.

Don’t think there will be a lot of goals at Alloa today.Goin u1.5 @3/1 and u2.5@21/20.Also bts not to score @ evs.

I always said id never touch rangers again, I did today and ill tell you something, if I live till I’m 100 ill never put another penny on them. Worst ever!

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

John, I’d never back them at such short prices but thought there would be goals. Maybe the weather played a part because it’s howling up here and maybe an edge was taken off because they couldn’t win the title after the Annan game was postponed.

With Rooney & Lampard both scoring and Wales as my super single coming up its with my super single that i’ll start with and ive chosen PRESTON who are up against an in form Leyton Orient, The O’s have won the last 3 matches with Preston, but i just think Preston will end that run, if they do they may need Will Hayhurst to continue his run of 3 goals in 4 games he is available anytime at 11/2.

Bayo, if Morton have the wind behind them you never know. I’d imagine it’s a pretty bleak day in Greenock so Beath could be under all sort of pressure in the second half.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Game on at Morton, Muzza could be back in the contest.

    WIGAN VS WIDNES

Tonights live game comes from DW stadium, were Wigan host Widnes, the build up to this game as surrounded 1 man who cant/shouldnt play ex Wiganer Gareth Hock, coach Denis Betts think Wigan are running scared by not allowing him to play, I very much doubt it. Wigan would win this at a canter and bookies are giving Widnes 28pt start, normally I wud still take Wigan to cover but poor weather conditions and Wigan will be without Mossop,Lauaki,Dudson,Prescott and Hansen means Wigan will be without alot of grunt up front and will be relying on their younger players.

One man who should be back for Wigan is Sam Tomkins and his influence cant be ignored, Wigan have only won once when Tomkins hasnt played. Even though Tomkins is Wigan’s main man, one Wiganer as put himself in early contention for man of steel and thats Liam Farrell and he is the subject of william hill anytime wincast 6/4.

For widnes they have no fewer than 12 ex wiganers in their squad and are coached by an ex wiganer, so they will have xtra motivation, one ex Wiganer not expected to be fit for the game is Kevin Brown and thats a big loss. Widnes will look too Ah Van to put points on the board and is 11/4 anytime and conisdering he has crossed for a brace in his last two games its worth a wager.

As i said I fully expect Wigan to win but wouldnt be suprised if Widnes kept within the handicap, but im concentrating on the tries for my bets and i expect a too see a few tonight.

    1. BET SAM TOMKINS TO SCORE 1/2
    2. BET LIAM FARRELL TO SCORE WINCAST 6/4
    3. BET PATRICK AH VAN TO SCORE 11/4
    4. BET OVER 8.5 TOTAL TRIES 6/5

Good luck if your having a bet

  118. tadgh 11 years ago

Cheers Danny will have a look

  119. Andy 11 years ago

Girona and Sligo are the only games I can see this evening worth a small punt, comes in at just over evens so could be an easy way to double money if they win which on form they both should.

Girona won 10 of 14 home games this season, only losing two. Sitting 4 in the league right now, playing Mirandes who are currently 18th, Only won 3 of 15 away games this season.

Sligo won all 3 games this season so far, playing Limerick who’ve drawn 2 of the 3 opening games. Sligo look very strong though, scoring 7 and only conceding 1 goal in the first 3 games. Playing at home which helps also.

  120. tadgh 11 years ago

Barely follow football betting any more, more into the horse racing at the moment. But out of boredom I looked at fixtures tonight and placed a 5 fold on Sligo, Metz, Frejus, Girona, and Ponferredinna draw no bet. All won, just shame I didn’t back Ponferredina at 8/5 to win as winnings would’ve been quite a bit better. Still, profits profit i guess
