INTER MILAN and Bayern Munich suffered shock 1-0 Champions League first-leg defeats – and must try to overturn the deficits tonight. The 2010 finalists will worry about conceding an away goal but the big guns should have enough quality to battle through to the last eight. Mind you if Marseille side manage to net in the San Siro they’ll have done something they have failed to do in their three outings against Ajaccio, Toulouse and Brest. Maybe the French side have taken their eye off the ball after beating Inter 1-0 in the first leg but you have to fancy the Italians to overturn the deficit despite poor form in Serie A.
Claudio Ranieri’s side ended a run of six league games without a win by seeing off Chievo 2-0 last Friday. But they still trail rivals AC by 17 points and the best their hard-to-please supporters will accept is a Euro run to the last eight.
With Marseille’s confidence so fragile Inter can win this no nil (9-4, Ladbrokes, Skybet). A 1-0 scoreline that forces extra time pays 6-1 at Stan James while 2-0 is 8-1 at unibet and bodog. Inter are a biggest 2-1 with Blue Square to qualify while Marseille are 9-20 at unibet.
Bayern possibly face the toughest task but returned to top form at the weekend with a 7-1 hammering of Hoffenheim. Basel have been a revelation this season, knocking out Man United in the group stage, so can’t be written off.
But they’ll need to keep an eye on Mario Gomez who hit a hat-trick against Hoffenheim and is 13-5 at BetVictor to score first. Gomez has a slight knock but is expected to start and he is vital to the German side’s hopes.
It’s pretty short but I’m taking Bayern (1-2, Betfred) to qualify while they are 2-9 at Paddy Power to win on the night.
- Inter to win to nil (9-4, Ladbrokes, Skybet)
- Gomez to score first (13-5, BetVictor)
