EVERYONE more or less accepted Tuesday was a tough card and I said I’d be happy to break even – and that’s how it almost turned out.
I covered my 2pts Super Single on Ipswich and that was just as well as Bolton bravely battled to draw 2-2 with a last-minute penalty (although it was a disputed one). It was ironic the goals bet on my Top Treble beat me as Cardiff failed to net (again they did everything but score) while Burnley and Dumbarton won.
One of the night’s biggest surprises was Dunfermline’s failure to beat Albion Rovers at home and the fact it went under 2.5 and that helped defeat my goals line.
Jordan landed his double and was so close with the treble while Greg was the star of the show with his Nap and NB winning on Scottish lower-league matches.
It’s a much quieter Wednesday night with two more Champions League ties – I’ve posted a separate preview – as well as St Johnstone v Inverness in the Scottish Premiership and two French Ligue games.
The two French games are interesting and I quite like the look of Marseille at Ajaccio and Bastia at home to Nantes. Marseille can’t totally be trusted but are unbeaten on the road since October and having won six times on the road should be confident at third-bottom Ajaccio who haven’t tasted victory this year.
I’m keeping the draw on side and taking Marseille and Bastia not to lose as a Super Single double. Bastia have won three of their last four with four clean sheets and have a great record against Nantes.
They are unbeaten in seven against Nantes and have kept clean sheets in their last five at home. Nantes were hammered 4-1 at Rennes last week and Bastia should be able to at least avoid defeat. Both games kick off at 5.30pm and if it wins I may add another.
For the Top Treble I’m starting with both to score at Chelsea v PSG which is a concensus bet. Unlike last night’s two ties the home side must win and that should mean two good games and plenty of goals.
Add over 1.5 match goals at Zenit-Benfica. As in the Stamford Bridge clash this could come down to who scores first but without an away goal the Russians need two if they want to win in 90 minutes and three if they concede.
Complete the treble with Inverness to score at St Johnstone. Greg is always hammering on about how bad his side defend and they’ve had about the same number of clean sheets as there are Newcastle fans who love Steve McClaren. If ICT weren’t in the middle of a hectic schedule I’d consider them to win as they look back on track and did well to stay in the Scottish Cup at Hibs on Sunday.
Saints don’t have a game at the weekend so may be more focused on this so let’s just go Inverness to score.
The Zenit game is early and the bet’s still running going into the other two. The Super Single was also a winner thanks to two draws so let’s go with 1pt on Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score first at 9-2 with Ladbrokes.
