Mar 8: Champions League Betting Preview

ChampionsLeagueTrophy

REAL MADRID fans will turn up at the Bernabeu tonight knowing their side has all but booked a Champions League last-eight slot – but they’ll be demanding more.

A 2-0 win at Roma in the first leg gives the Spanish superstars a cushion and instead of white hankies we’ll see white towels thrown in by the Italians who must be aware they face an impossible task.

Roma are in great form in Serie A but are without a win in eight on their Champions League travels and their last road trip ended in a 6-1 bashing by Barcelona.

Cristiano Ronaldo netted in Italy and looks in the mood after firing four in Saturday’s 7-1 crushing of Celta Vigo.

Gareth Bale’s return from injury created space for Ronaldo and he is just 8-13 at Coral to score and 11-4 at Ladbrokes to break the deadlock.

Bale claimed No.7 against Vigo and has every chance of adding to his tally with Karim Benzema out. The Welshman is 6-4 with 888sport to score and 5-1 at Ladbrokes and Hills to net first.

Real look worth taking on accas at 2-5 with McBookie to win and possibly at 5-4 with William Hill to score three or more but remember a draw or one-goal defeat takes them through.

It’s Zinedine Zidane’s first CL outing in front of home fans so he’ll want a positive result especially as once again the title is gone and even finishing second isn’t guaranteed.

If Roma are willing to give it a go both sides should score and that pays 4-6 at Paddy Power.

Tonight’s other tie sees Wolfsburg entertain Gent having won 3-2 away after leading 3-0. Wolfsburg are clearly the better team and I’m on them at 8-15 with William Hill to win again.

There should be goals though as Gent won’t sit back and over 2.5 match pays 4-6 at McBookie. Julian Draxler netted a double in Belgium and the Germans’ star man is 7-4 at Betfred to again hit the target.

Former Chelsea star Andre Schurrle hit a hat-trick in the 4-0 win at Hannover last midweek and is 7-4 at Ladbrokes to net again.

Wolfsburg like Real don’t to win and have three away goals in the bag but for an hour so they totally dominated Gent and would have won by four or five if they hadn’t taken their foot off the gas.
