Is the flat season In Ireland starting earlier or am I out of touch. Sure I heard on atr there was 2 year race this weekend.
Not keen on flat myself, give me jumps any day.
Typical of flat is Chester down the road, full of scouse women, pi##ed up, with short mini skirts and stinking like a brothel and out of season footy fans looking for a fight.
Very nice outside racecourses, but they ain’t racing people

      • Profile photo of Johnb
        Johnb 1 year ago

No it’s starting today at the Curragh which is about the same time as it usually does and nothing wrong with the people who go to flat meetings, it’s always been said jumps for toffs and flat for the working class people, which isn’t the case anymore but there is still a little element of upperclass views at jumps meetings.
Must say though I go to the racing as much as I can and I very rarely see people causing trouble, flat is the summer racing and although there is summer jumps it’s still the winter side of the sport which is why we get the people you mentioned at flat meetings which I don’t have a problem with as I myself sometimes go in larger all male groups who like football.
Chester isn’t the best meeting but it’s one of the best and again I never see trouble and it’s not just scouse women that wear mini skirts and like a drink.
Racing people come from all forms of life so you can’t say they aren’t racing people as they wouldn’t go racing for a day out if they didn’t like it

Thanks to all for some great tips during another amazing Cheltenham week. I was there on Friday and the atmosphere was electric as always on gold cup day. Still dreaming about getting Cue Card over that fence!

Had a e/w lucky 15 in play going into that race with Ivanovich Gorbatov
    Superb Story
    Cue Card

The rest is history but it could have been my best Cheltenham ever!

The 2016 Cheltenham Festival was one for the punters.
At the end of the festival on Friday, it was estimated that bookmakers in the UK and Ireland suffered a combined loss of £60million (€77million).

Victories for heavily backed favourites, such as Vatour, Don Cossack and Thistlecrack, cleaned out bookmakers, and they were reportedly hit to tune of €12 million on Thursday alone in Ireland.

It’s now emerged that even when horses were losing races, punters were still coming out ahead of bookmakers.

According to Hayley O’Connor of Ladbrokes: “The initial results were unimaginably bad for us, and when we thought it couldn’t get worse, we saw what we gave back to customers on our specials.”

The company’s money back specials cost them €1.7 million.

The heavily backed Ivanovich Gorbatov cost the bookmaker €385,000 on Friday, as they were refunding losing bets on the first race if the favourite won.

While victories for Un De Seaux and Josses Order resulted in €400,000 being refunded to customers.

“It seems even the losers were winners for the punters,” O’Connor said.

It won’t alter anything, bookies will never be beaten, they say it’s been a bad Cheltenham but it will never break them,
All money back offers are there to make the bookie more money because they know the majority of money back offers will never be paid to customers because the vast majority of them are paid in free bets.
If you put all the bookies together then £60 million is only a very small slice of their profits

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 1 year ago

Johnb, £60m won’t kill them – but it’s better in our pockets than theirs even if it’s just a loan.

      • Profile photo of kelly.d
        kelly.d 1 year ago

i just like to read the bookies lost now and again lol

      • Profile photo of Johnb
        Johnb 1 year ago

Mr f it’s always better in our pockets and it is possible to make long term profits but if everyone gambled sensibly then we wouldn’t have bookies.
Always said if bookies were run properly they would increase their profits substantial while also keeping the customer happy

        • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
          Mr Fixit 1 year ago

Johnb, if we didn’t have bookies we couldn’t have a bet.
It’s about finding one you like, one that has good prices and customer service and then trying to formulate a way to make a profit.
Not all firms are bad – not all are good. Everyone finds out through experience.

          • Profile photo of ooseven
            ooseven 1 year ago

On this note who do people bet with? Is there a consensus who is good/bad/indifferent? Also if this kind of chat isn’t allowed then please ignore but always wondered this in terms of other peoples experiences with different bookies.

As I say if not allowed (for obvious reasons) please ignore.

Nice dougie. Do you have any stars for this punter? In fairness he deserves a constellation.

The customer placed a £1 lucky 15 – that’s singles, doubles, trebles and a four-fold on four selections – and watched on as his selections won the first four races on the card.

It got better, as thanks to Sky Bet‘s Best Odds Guaranteed concession on all races in the UK and Ireland, the payout was virtually trebled to a grand total of £77,766.90.

Bruce Almighty kicked off the bet, winning the opener for Donald McCain, before Tomorrow’s Legend moved smoothly on his way to a two-length success in the novices’ chase.

Mister Kit was in front early in the third race and never look liked being reeled in and when top weight Firth Of The Clyde hit the front at the last before powering away, in went the spectacular four-timer.

Surely whatever you feel you can afford. Johnb might have plenty in the bank and you might not (or vice versa obviously) so it’s the tips that matter not what he’s sticking on them. He always says when his NAP/NB is the same horse so that should indicate his confidence in it as far as that goes.

All bets singles and doubles are level 1pt stakes unless stated like joint NAP/NB 2pts r the double & treble tomorrow 0.5pt
