I WAS one Nottingham Forest goal away from landing a third big Top Treble in a row but was happy to land the Super Single and Daily Double.
Forest brought up the SS which is almost back in profit after two successive wins while the even-money double was Barcelona to win and Juventus to score.
After 9-1 and 11-2 trebles I thought I was on to a 15-1 winner with Forest to score 3+, Kris Commons to score for Celtic and Alaves to beat Osasuna but there was still a small profit as the trixie was advised.
The goals single was one short with Arbroath missing many chances as they crashed 2-0 at home to Albion Rovers so there’s a small loss on that one this month.
Thursday is all about the Europa League and having spent time this morning looking at all eight games in detail I feel I’m none the wiser. It really is a tricky card and as usual low stakes are advised.
For the Super Single I’m on Besiktas to qualify against Bruges. I backed the Turks not to lose the first leg in Belgium but after taking the lead they went surprisingly down 2-1.
Bruges are going great guns domestically – top of the table and in the cup final. They are unbeaten in Europe this season but I still fancy Besiktas to turn it round. A 1-0 win will take them through and that’s the score they achieved against Liverpool and Spurs this season.
The Belgians can’t be dismissed lightly but with an away goal in the bag I’m backing Besiktas. The qualifying price is bigger than to win in 90 minutes – and let’s have the 2-1 win if extra time or penalties are needed.
Elsewhere Wolfsburg and Sevilla should have done enough after 3-1 first-leg wins against Inter and Villarreal respectively and I can’t see Zenit giving up a 2-0 lead when they visit Torino. None of those teams need to win and Wolfsburg and Zenit in particular would be happy with away draws.
Sevilla are at home after a wonderful win at Villarreal and there should be plenty of goals tonight. Eight of the last nine meetings between the sides have gone over 2.5 goals and with Villarreal needing to score a minimum of three (highly unlikely) I’ll go with over 2.5 goals as the goals single but it’s no bigger than 8-13 at Betfred and BetVictor.
Looking at the other ties – Ajax and Dynamo Kive are one down welcoming Dnipro and Everton and both could go either way. Napoli should have done enough after beating Dinamo Moscow 3-1 at home and it was interesting to see Rafael Benitez rest players including Gonzalo Higuain – a first-leg hat-trick hero – for the weekend defeat by Verona. Higuain to score at 9-5 with Coral could be the shout here.
That leaves the all-Italian clash between Roma and Fiorentina. Too many draws have killed Roma’s title hopes and they lost 2-0 at home to Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia last week. The tie’s finely balanced after a 1-1 draw so Fiorentina need to score to have any chance and I’m backing them at 15-8 with Betfred – possibly by way of a score draw.
Having admitted it’s a tough card and to play with low stakes I’m not having any other bets on the Europa League. I am, however, putting up a Top Treble on the Premier League darts in Glasgow. I’ve been following enough to know the form but admit I’m no expert so check out the tips on the sports thread.
First up I’m on Peter Wright to sink Stephen Bunting. Wright’s recovered from a horror league start to pick up some decent results and whitewashed the new boy 10-0 recently in the Coral Open. Bunting looks out of his depth and Wright will be well supported and looks good at 6-5 with BetVictor and McBookie.
Gary Anderson has lost three out of four in Glasgow but will be introduced as world champion tonight and is in the form of his life. He won at the weekend and should be too good for another debutant Kim Huybrechts.
The Scots crowd love to hate Phil Taylor and he responds well to the banter. He’s won six in a row in Glasgow and should make it seven against an out of sorts Raymond van Barneveld who is struggling to beat the drop.
