THE World Grand Prix is a new addition to the snooker calender and it makes its debut on Monday with the world's top 32 players fighting it out for the £100,000 prize in Llandudno.
It's no surprise to see Ronnie O'Sullivan top the betting as title favourite at 10-3 with Sportingbet and the usual suspects are in close attendance, with Neil Robertson 15-2 at 888sport, Mark Selby 8-1 at Stanjames and Judd Trump 10-1 at totesport.

Chasing losses is BAD if you don’t have the time to put research in. I’ve chased blind before and won sometimes but lost more times. If there is a 2nd choice bet that you already had in mind that’s been at least sort of researched than chasing the loss isn’t too silly I guess.

Hey Huggy mate, 204 seems very low…but I’m always wary of the Heat, their games generally go under due to their right defence and poor offence. I’d be more inclined to take Cavs at the line again…haven’t researched yet, I’ll get back to you later on it once I’m informed :-)

Kohlschreiber d Murray @ 5/1
This is a pretty hopeful swing I’m taking here, but Kohlschreiber ticks the boxes I’m now looking for when it comes to trying to predict Murray upsets. Against Pospisil for example I left Murray alone because it’s the kind of matchup he’s thriving on. It’s when he’s come up against the likes of Simon and Coric recently, steady players who have defended superbly and taken the counter punch advantage away from him, frustrating him and making him beat himself, that he has struggled. Kohlschreiber at his best is a fantastic defender, with a great variety of attacking shots too, and if he can produce his A Game early on he can frustrate Murray and throw him off his rhythm. If he’s not able to do that and Murray starts really well himself it could be all over before he’s really had a chance to make Murray sweat, but I’ve seen enough chinks in Murray’s armour recently to suggest this is worth a little go.
Tuesday:
Pliskova d Halep @ 9/4
The are a couple of things making me lean towards Pliskova in this one. Firstly, Halep hasn’t been completely commanding so far this week, needing three sets to get past Gavrilova and Lepchenko. She’s served 14 doubles in total over those matches to 2 aces, and that also suggests she is struggling a little. Her serve wobbled at times on her way to the title in Dubai last month, a tournament I wasn’t totally convinced by her in, and it doesn’t look like she’s stepped up a gear this week. It was in the Dubai final that she last met Pliskova, winning a tight match 6-4, 7-6. What’s worth noting though is that match was Pliskova’s 12th in 15 days, having played Fed Cup in Canada, reached the semi finals in Antwerp before jetting off to Dubai for 6 more matches. That’s some serious air miles racked up and a pretty hefty physical workload. If Pliskova had been fresher for the final against Halep, I would have backed her to win it, but by the time she reached the final her serve had left her somewhat, understandable given how many she’d hit recently! This time round she is fresh, and while the courts may not be as fast as she’d like in this matchup, I still think she has a good chance of getting past a slightly vulnerable Halep.
Sorry, Kohlschreiber is slightly over 6/1 with Betfair.
Im also tempted to put a few quid on Verdasco to beat Nishikori @ just over 3/1. He played some superb stuff down in Acupulco. I’ve got Kei on the antepost though so hoping he makes it through okay.

Switched over to Kyrigos match just before tie-break and saw him at 5/2 so naturally immediately put down a small stake but didn’t know about the ankle twist !!
I’d quickly looked up theur respective tie-break stats and NK’s seemed good but the lack of time meant I didn’t have a good look, which later revealed that against top ten players, it’s very poor !!
Donald Young won but lost the ‘modest double’ on the womens doubles and it was because of what I was preaching about ‘lazy betting’, not fully researching the match & background. However in the in-play markets I got my money back as my pair after winning their first service game, preceded to lose EVERY single service game thereafter (match full of breaks) and bet365 were still offering odds against them losing service games all the way through.

– Clearly a gamble but odds massive here on a match that could go either way. If Kohli is on his game, without typical mental lapses, then he can quite easily take Murray out.
Murray is obviously the more mentally strong player, but this could prove to be match-up that’s come just at the wrong time for Andy. A BOLD move putting this as a NAP but I can’t help myself at these odds.
2/ *NB* Tomic to beat Ferrer @ 12/5 with William Hill.
-Tomic is really starting to find that consistency in his game that has always been missing since he hit the pro tour. He’s coming up against a tenacious fighter who will battle to the bitter end in David Ferrer, and with whom he’s had a tough time with in the past.
However, Ferrer typically struggles to make the adjustment required when transitioning his game from the South American clay-court swing when coming into this hard-court event, so you’ve got to go with this at these kind of odds IMO.

re Ferrer. An upset is certainly possible, but your reasoning is slightly flawed in that as of this year Acupolco is a hard court event, not a clay court one, so Ferrer is in fact coming here off a hard court title. And he’s had a fortnight to settle in. The reason I don’t think Tomic can win is that, despite improvements this year, he still plays too passively, and you can’t beat Ferrer with passive tennis. Despite what should happen given their respective weapons I think we will see Ferrer dictating more than Tomic and that is a recipe for a Ferrer win.

Nope, I’ve got Mannarino in my crazy acca. I considered a single @ 6/5 but haven’t placed one yet. He is just the sort of steady player who will draw errors from Gulbis if Gulbis is below par. The only thing putting me off is Gulbis’ first round match which suggests he’s on his game.

Thanks AD – yes the odds seem a bit too good to be true considering the latest meeting and Garcia’s recent form (she has only lost to Kerber, Radwanska, Bacsinszky, Bouchard this year)- i havent seen the handicap yet but do you think maybe Garcia + a few games may be a safer bet? Is she reknowned for having a big serve?
Juan- she’s got a pretty good serve. There’s a ten minutes video on youtube of the hightlights of Garcia v Ivanovic from their Acupulco match. The conditions will be different here (hotter, slower, higher bouncing court) but it should give you a good flavour of what she is about and how she can win this matchup. It’s pretty much all Garcia winners but don’t let it convince you to lump on her! Ana could have a much better day this time round and Garcia could be fatigued.
There’s nothing that feels especially safe tonight. I’d probably go with 2 from Keys, Ferrer and Sharapova for a double.

Jordan, one thing to consider is Atletico haven’t conceded in their last five CL games at home including Chelsea, Barca and Juventus.
That is one thing to consider Mr F but it doesn’t put me off. Bigger prizes in the knockouts, they can’t go and defend a 1-0 lead in Spain. Scored in every h2h tie. For example.
£100 on Over 197 @ 10/11 returns £190.90.
Cover on Under 197.5 @ 9/2 would need £22.50 to return £123.75.
Over 197 = Total stake £122.50 returns £190.90 = £68.40 profit
Under 197.5 = Total stake £122.50 return £123.75 = £1.25 profit.

Yeah I’ve found betting on NBA/NFL has turned my fortunes around to be honest. Do ok on football but like you I agree on the handicaps/no draws as a much better medium. Starting to go for totals only rather than spreads as cover can be more in your favour and like football you aren’t relying on one team with goals. I’ll look out for your picks.

I bet most sports but really nba season is my fav as can hit good streaks and i do points totals alot good one is if you say doing a overs bet and its cruising total jumps up i often do a unders as it tends 2 slow down 4th quater when one team is out of sight so you pick up 2 wins or atleast stake back.
