MAR 1: JOHNB’S RACING TIPS AND CHAT

Racing_Betfred

JOHNB ended February with a loser so his profit for the month was 24.38pts which was a good effort.

After a 12.72pts loss he is 11.66pts up for the year as we hit the month of March, the month of Cheltenham.

Our competition to win two VIP tickets to Cheltenham was one by OllyS who picked four out of six winners on the chosen races. That was a super effort and we hope he has an enjoyable and profitable trip.

Johnb’s Sunday tip

Huntingdon 2.30
Bertenbar 7-2 NAP/NB Betfred

Joint NAP & NB so double stakes.

Bertenbar (NAP)
We have a horse here that is 11 years old and he hasn’t won since 2011. But since that last win when trained by Henrieta Knight he has only had four runs, three of those were for Mrs Fleur Hawes, a yard that doesn’t get many winners.

The horse was then off the track for two years before his last run. Reason for that is unknown but his return to racing last time for new trainer Tom Symonds was eye-catching for a horse that probably needed the run after 712 days off.

Ridden by Aidan Coleman that day it was obvious the instructions were to lead and give him a race just to see if he still had any of his old form. The answer to that was yes as he was beaten late on when finishing third, beaten seven and three-quarter lengths by Ultimatum Du Roy with Mr Muddle in second.

Those horses were rated 110 and 107 that day and all bar two horses were rated 102+. Today’s race is weaker and if improving for that run he can win today.

Connections wouldn’t have kept him in training if there wasn’t a chance of him winning again but that last run says to me he still has it in him. That last run was on February 5 so the question most of you will have is can he win with only a 24-day break after being off the track for two years?

The answer is yes because when he had his three wins in 2011 they all came after short breaks of 10, 14 and 24 days. Now on a handicap mark 5lb lower than his last winning mark and jockey Benjamin Poste taking off another 3lb this old boy Bertenbar can win again.

Johnb what’s the reason for confidence behind this pick mate?

  4. Tom 2 years ago

Not complaining about the tips you give but a few lines explaining why you picked them would be nice John.

Tom, sometimes he’ll post reasoning later or in the morning if he’s got time – but we don’t require him to do so.

      • Tom 2 years ago

I know, I like when I see a write up from him because it helps have more confidence in his picks other than just trusting because of his record. Wouldn’t take more than 30 seconds.

          Mr Fixit 2 years ago

Tom, 30 seconds? You’re kidding of course. To do any kind of write-up takes a good bit of research first. I can write a 700-word Record column in 15 minutes but I might have spent hours looking at stats, form and team news.

          • Tom 2 years ago

Lol I didn’t mean his picks take 30 seconds I meant just writing a couple of sentences about why he made it the NAP. :)

    Mad for road 6/4

Iv put this horse up last 2 runs but has just come up a bit short but it was only beaten 1/2 length behind nefyn bay last time who subsequently followed up again in next run. But I reccomend smallish stakes as might just be a nearly horse. But this race seems pretty weak affair so I’m hoping to recoup a bit from backing it last 2 runs.
    Good luck all

  16. stueyp 2 years ago

Gua, agree with all you say about Mad for Road, also backed it last twice but it may be a bit of a thinker and not quite put it all in. Had had some EW Wing Mira 230 but now there is only 2 places and Johns tip is in it too!!

    BIN SUROOR TRIBUTE FOR CAVALRYMAN

Saeed bin Suroor has paid tribute to Cavalryman after he suffered a fatal injury at Meydan on Saturday.

The nine-year-old sustained a serious fracture in his right hind leg while running in the Group Three Nad Al Sheba Trophy and had to be put down.

Bin Suroor told http://www.godolphin.com: “He was a real character in the yard and was treasured, not only by me, but by everyone here – all of the team; we are very upset by the tragic news.
He had a wonderful career and he will be hugely missed.”

Cavalryman began his career in France with trainer Andre Fabre and landed the Group One Grand Prix de Paris in 2009.

Switched to Bin Suroor’s care the following year, he also won the Dubai Gold Cup in 2013 as well as last year’s Princess of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket and the Artemis Goodwood Cup.

Alot of people on here had a good win on him last year at Goodwood in the Goodwood Cup winning at 5/1 with Fallon onboard,
its terrible when its any horse but he was a great

It just reminds us all what horses and jockeys give to a sport we love

Afternoon lads,Modest stakes today.Ive backed different picks here but on Duncan and smackaroonies Badgerfort.
    Enjoy your visit DeNiro.
The bookies seem to think that White Arm will reverse things with KEEP ON TRACK,after being hampered 4 out LTO but Ive taken the 4/1 SkyBet.4.50 Naven and doubled it against KOI’s pick with MINE NOW..320.Naven#
    GL.
As usual ten bob on Nina to upset the Odds

  38. double carpet 2 years ago

Nothing too inspiring today and still snowing heavily so im avoiding NAVAN as anything could happen although i do like GLENQUEST in the 4.20 so i will watch how things are panning out there and maybe back him. Also theres a big race in FRANCE with both MULLINS and ELLIOTT have runners in the 3.10 and ive had a punt on the MULLINS horse as hes bottom weight and 5/2 seems a good bet. Other than that ive only backed one more LOVELY JOB 2.10 SEDGEFIELD
    and thats it for me.

    Best of luck to all
