JOHNB ended February with a loser so his profit for the month was 24.38pts which was a good effort.
After a 12.72pts loss he is 11.66pts up for the year as we hit the month of March, the month of Cheltenham.
Our competition to win two VIP tickets to Cheltenham was one by OllyS who picked four out of six winners on the chosen races. That was a super effort and we hope he has an enjoyable and profitable trip.
Johnb’s Sunday tip
Bertenbar 7-2 NAP/NB Betfred
Joint NAP & NB so double stakes.
We have a horse here that is 11 years old and he hasn’t won since 2011. But since that last win when trained by Henrieta Knight he has only had four runs, three of those were for Mrs Fleur Hawes, a yard that doesn’t get many winners.
The horse was then off the track for two years before his last run. Reason for that is unknown but his return to racing last time for new trainer Tom Symonds was eye-catching for a horse that probably needed the run after 712 days off.
Ridden by Aidan Coleman that day it was obvious the instructions were to lead and give him a race just to see if he still had any of his old form. The answer to that was yes as he was beaten late on when finishing third, beaten seven and three-quarter lengths by Ultimatum Du Roy with Mr Muddle in second.
Those horses were rated 110 and 107 that day and all bar two horses were rated 102+. Today’s race is weaker and if improving for that run he can win today.
Connections wouldn’t have kept him in training if there wasn’t a chance of him winning again but that last run says to me he still has it in him. That last run was on February 5 so the question most of you will have is can he win with only a 24-day break after being off the track for two years?
The answer is yes because when he had his three wins in 2011 they all came after short breaks of 10, 14 and 24 days. Now on a handicap mark 5lb lower than his last winning mark and jockey Benjamin Poste taking off another 3lb this old boy Bertenbar can win again.
