WE’VE a introduced a few new features to the site – and kept some old favourites.

A popular feature last season was the junior football tipping contest between bookies William Hill and McBookie.com.

Hills are represented by odds compiler Owen Scott while McBookie.com director Paul Petrie is in the other corner.

Last season it was Paul who took the bragging rights fairly convincingly. But this time Owen is determined to turn the tables.

To add a bit of spice to the contest the loser must take the winner for a slap-up curry.

The rules of the contest are simple. Each bookie will tip a juniors treble and be given a mythical £10 stake.

Whoever’s trebles turn the biggest profit between now and the end of the season is the winner. The only difference this season is that Owen’s treble will be paid on McBookie’s prices and vice versa.

So let the battle begin. We’ll start with the holder.

Paul writes: First up I’m going for Dyce Juniors to beat Maud in the North Region. There is a big difference in prices between us and William Hills – 23-10 as opposed to 11-10 – and hopefully we have called this once right.

Next up is Dalry to beat East Kilbride. They had a great result against Beith in midweek and at around 7-5 at Hills – we are 1-1 – I think it represents good value.

Finally I am going for Auchinleck to beat Kilbirnie. Talbot managed 10 goals in midweek and look the banker of the weekend.

Paul’s treble

  • Dyce
  • Dalry
  • Auchinleck
  • Treble pays 5-1 with McBookie.com, 10-1 at William Hill

Owen writes: Everyone probably thought I would disappear after my dismal record last season but I’m back for a new season.

I’ll start by taking my own side Cumnock at 11-10 to get their season off to flyer by winning at home in a rearranged tie against Ashfield.

The game was originally away but due to weather the match is now at Townhead Park.

My next selection is for newly-promoted Ardrossan at 11-10 to win at home to relegated Lanark.

Ardrossan have started well in the League Cup and will be confident at home to Lanark.

Finally I’m taking a shock at Meadow Park where I reckon champions Irvine Meadow could lose their opener at home to my tips for the title Arthurlie who are 21-10.

On the anteposts all five West divisions look as open as ever. In the Premier the betting is headed by holders Irvine Meadow and Junior Cup winners Auchinleck Talbot, but both will be involved in the senior Scottish Cup so that could hamper any title challenges this season.

Next up are Pollok and Arthurlie and my money for this season is on the Barrhead side at 5-1. Lie have strengthened well in the summer.

After these four I reckon most sides are a match for each other on their day so don’t discount Mr Fixit’s Clydebank or my own side Cumnock to put a run together.

In the First Division Glenafton (3-1) are favourites after inheriting the successful Dalry management team from last season as well as a number of their squad.

This division is very competitive because as many as half of the teams can leave the division each year but I reckon Glenafton are strong enough to return to the top tier. In the District leagues I’m taking Troon (11-4), Cambuslang (8-1) and Maryhill (7-2) to triumph and I’ll stick all of these on a line for charity of trebles and upwards so if any three come in the winnings will be at least £33.

If all five win the returns could be more than £4000 for a 50p unit stake.

Current favourites in the East are Linlithgow (9-4), Newtongrange and Tayport (7-2), Dundee NE (9-4) Dundonald, Jeanfield and Kinnoull (7-2) and Fauldhouse (7-2).

I’ll give you my picks for these divisions when their league season begins. Culter are currently 1-1 favourites for the North Super League.

Owen’s treble

  • Cumnock
  • Ardrossan
  • Arthurlie
  • Treble pays £136 for a tenner at William Hill, £155.50 at McBookie.com

Thanks again….keep on tipping against the Medda. The only way Medda won’t win the league again this year is if they have a good run in senior Scottish Cup. Sorry to say but your Junior tipping is woeful.
