I HATE betting on friendlies but I might change my tune if more of them are like Brechin v Aberdeen.
Credit goes to a couple of contributors (Ray and rensen) I think who flagged up the fact Brechin had just six signed players available and at that point I said I’d backed goals and Aberdeen on the handicaps if they were playing a strong side.
Greg Browning also tipped over 3.5 match goals and I posted the strong Aberdeen line-up at 6.54pm with the following comment: “It’s not from my betting bank but I’d advise Aberdeen -2 at 5-6 with BetVictor and a small stake on over 4.5 match goals at 2-1 with William Hill.”
To be honest I was tempted to add them to the top tips and wipe out the deficit but that may have been unfair so close to kick-off time and of course would bust my betting bank. Instead I hope plenty of people backed them and I placed the bets with spare money floating about some of my accounts.
I added some others I didn’t advise when I noticed the bench was strong and the fact new Brechin boss Darren Dods had to play at 40 summed up how short his team were as they crashed 8-2.
Hopefully we’ll get more friendlies like this one – so if anyone spots another opportunity don’t hesitate to post.
I needed those wins as I lost two points on the Top Treble thanks to shocking defending from England Under-21s as they exited the European Championship against Italy.
My Super Single was Chile to beat Uruguay and that provided me with a 7pt success thanks to the hosts’ late winner.
Late on Thursday it’s the second of the Copa America quarter-finals with Peru facing Bolivia and whoever wins will be a surprise semi-finalist.
Bolivia finished second in Group A even after a 5-0 thrashing by Chile because they beat Ecuador drew with Mexico.
They have won one of their last 10 matches and conceded two or more in those games so it’s no wonder bookies expect Peru to progress. Peru though haven’t been too good either and have won just one of their previous nine matches.
Ricardo Gareca’s side reached the semis last time and should just about live up to their billing as 19-20 favourites at William Hill even if captain Carlos Labaton is banned.
Under 2.5 goals is also expected and it’s probably too short to back at 1-2 so if anything I’ll back the Peru win.
Elsewhere there are some Finnish league games and a few friendlies and I’ve had a look at the Finnish ones before heading to golf. The team that caught the eye is RoPS at home to Inter Turku.
RoPS have climbed to second behind HJK after a super run of nine wins in 11 matches while Inter have gone backwards and their only win in six and only clean sheet in eight was last time out against second-bottom KTP.
Aleksandr Kokko has banged in eight goals in nine games and the Finnish Under-21 is a player who can fire RoPS to another win. I hope they’re not another Frej but we’ve backed them before so I’m risking them for the Super Single at 11-10 with bet365. Kokko is 9-2 at 888sport to score first.
For those wanting less risk you could consider a 1-2 double on RoPS and Peru not to lose.
