ALL I needed was a Harry Kane goal to bring up two Super Singles but unfortunately England Under-21s couldn’t oblige.
I was out so didn’t see the game but from the comments I assume Gareth Southgate’s side missed chances galore.
Portugal are a decent side at this level and I didn’t tip England to win – just to score and maybe the injury to Saidi Berahino affected the result. I notice too Sweden shocked Italy in the other group game but I left that match alone.
Possibly my best tip of the day was a non-tip when I pointed out stats were against both to score at Degerfors even if form suggested otherwise. It finished 1-0 and hopefully I put some people off backing btts.
The two losses take the Super Single deficit to 27pts for the month and it will be difficult to overturn. June’s been a difficult month with strange results in less familiar tournaments and I might have been better having the month off.
I won’t be chasing this deficit but hope to reduce it in the next few days. Going by their previous games you’d expect both to score at Mexico v Ecuador in Copa America. The consensus is both to score but having paid 4-5 at Ladbrokes last night it’d down to 4-6 almost everywhere and that’s too short for me to take as the Super Single.
My Saturday Daily Record columns are written and I’m eyeing Friday’s card but don’t see much I like. Chile-Bolivia later should be interesting but Alexis Sanchez is a doubt and it’s not been confirmed if Arturo Vidal will start after suffering minor injuries crashing his Ferrari under the influence of drink.
If Sanchez and Vidal start I’ll be tempted by Chile who have an 8-1 aggregate against Bolivia in their last three meetings.

Meanwhile, Raaljaca’s goals thread started recently and he’s asking for donations to two cancer charities. In June we’re supporting another cause in the shape of Projects Abroad who send volunteers to work in poor countries all over the world. All Buy a Beer donations (£3 minimum) will be passed on to Projects Abroad so click the button if you want to help.
