I DIDN'T think I'd be signing the praises of the Faroes and cursing Argentina but that's how it turned out on a dramatic day.
I landed a 6-1 Super Single winner with Faroes draw no bet against Greece and I have knocked 0.5pts off the profit as I covered it when the Faroes led 2-0.
It looked like it was going to be a great day when Argentina led Paraguay 2-0 at half-time but we know what happened. My second Super Single of Argentina -1 went down and the Top Treble of Argentina, Uruguay and Portugal was also beaten as the underdogs came back to draw 2-2.
Bot the single and treble could have been cheaply covered and the advice was posted (not by me). I decided not to cover but that's why we do it.
I also posted an anytime scorer double on Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski – pity it wasn't a hat-trick double.
Most of my recommendations on the Ireland-Scotland game were correct but my under 2.5 goals treble was a loser and even then it could have been covered before Greece bagged a late consolation against the Faroes.
I'm hoping for another good night and there are another nine Euro 2016 qualifiers on Sunday – remember the good old days when they were all on the same evening. I've posted up a separate preview of the games which include Slovenia v England, Russia v Austria and Sweden v Montenegro.
Spain are a short price at Belarus as are Switzerland at Lithuania and Slovakia at home to Macedonia.
In Copa America you'll get no bigger than 2-7 with Ladbrokes on Brazil to beat Peru and Colombia are bound to feature on my top tips at 2-5 with bet365 and Ladbrokes against Venezuela.
For the Top Treble I'm taking Switzerland at Lithuania and adding two from Copa America despite being slightly scarred by Argentina. Colombia should beat Venezuela with something to spare and it should be the same for Brazil against Peru. I'd consider both -1 but for the treble it's straight victories.
I was tempted by England for the Super Single but I've decided to go with Roy Hodgson's men to keep a clean sheet away to Slovenia. England have conceded just one goal in their five matches – and that was Jordan Henderson's OG in the 3-1 win at home to the Slovenians.
This looks as if it could tight, similar to their 1-0 win away to Estonia, but 0-0 is also a possibility to I'm going with the clean sheet as opposed to England to win or England to win to nil.
My second Super Single is Switzerland to win to nil at a Lithuania side who simply don't score goals – none in their last six. The Swiss are back on form after a poor start saw them lose to England and Slovenia.

Laskillful, I knew how to but chose to leave it. Even if cover is available you have to decide if you want to eat in to potential profit.
Laskillful. Somebody asked on the other thread before Paraguay scored. The cover for the -1 would have been Paraguay +2. The Top Treble cover would have Paraguay Double Chance.
On covering bets Luke posted this to help me last night , think original credit is to PeteT … ultimately though comes down to timing …
So …. covering. How does it work? In short there are 4 ways in which you can cover or protect yourself (that I know of). Generally your bet needs to be winning (or ahead) to make covering worthwhile as this makes the odds of the outcomes which cover your bet favorable (ie if you bet on Norwich to win and they are 2-1 up the odds of the draw or other team winning will probably be more than the odds you took for Norwich to win – assuming you took the bet at the start of the match)
1) Using cashout. This is often talked about and generally represents the worst value for punters. Generally speaking you could place bets on the other outcomes to guarantee a greater profit than cashout offers but this is because the bookies want to profit from non savvy punters. The exception to this rule is if you use something like Betfairexchange where the cashout is as good as if you covered the bet for the best profit regardless of outcomes.
2) Manually covering for maximum profit. This is where you bet on the opposite outcomes to try and get the best profit regardless of the final result. This is best illustrated using an example:
I place a Bet of £100 on Norwich to win at 7/5 (they are playing Derby in this example)
At 65 minutes they are 2-0 up – I decide I want to cover as I know they concede late goals. The odds of the double chance (Derby or Draw) are 4/1 which covers the outcomes I haven’t bet on. If I place a £48 bet on the double chance then I am left with the following outcomes:
Norwich Win
I make £140 (£100 at 7/5 odds) less the £48 I placed on my cover = £92 PROFIT
Norwich dont win (ie they lose of draw)
I make £192 (£48 at 4/1) less the initial £100 I bet on Norwich to win = £92 PROFIT
In essence regardless of what happens, once I I have made a profit. I can assure you that if you had gone for a cashout on most of the betting sites your cashout figure would have been at least 10% lower than the £92 you make by this method
3) Cover to ensure you don’t make a loss. THIS IS MY PREFERRED OPTION as generally when you cover a winning bet it wins more often than it loses (after all that’s why you or someone else tipped it)! Here the aim of the game is to ensure that if my bet loses, I have lost nothing. If the bet wins (and I find around 70% of the time it does end up winning) I get a decent cover sum (yes it’s less than what I would have got if I let the bet run but I havent lost my whole stake). An example helps illustrate this too:
I place my same bet of £100 on Norwich to win at 7/5 (they are still playing Derby)
At 65 minutes they are 2-0 up – I decide I want to cover as I know they concede late goals. The odds of the double chance (Derby or Draw) are 4/1 which covers the outcomes I haven’t bet on. If I place a £25 bet on the double chance then I am left with the following outcomes:
Norwich Win
I make £140 (£100 at 7/5 odds) less the £25 I placed on my cover = £115 PROFIT
Norwich dont win (ie they lose of draw)
I make £100 (£25 at 4/1) less the initial £100 I bet on Norwich to win = £0 (no profit, no loss)
In essence in this example I dont lose if Norwich cant hold their lead but, if they do win I make a bigger profit than by cashing out or covering for maximum profit.
I use this option quite frequently (although I use Betfairexchange where I lay the same outcome to ensure a nil loss if my bet doesnt win).
4) Sometimes you can be cute and cover with a win / win outcome. By this I mean you can bet on another market (goals) to give you cover if the odds are decent or you know about patterns with, say late goals. An example of this is
I place a Bet of £100 on Newcastle to win at 8/5 (they are playing Sunderland in this example)
At 80 minutes they are 2-0 up – I decide I want to cover as I dont want a couple of late goals to spoil my bet. The odds of o2.5 in play are 2/1 (plus I know the likelihood of a late goal at St James Park is very high as Mr Browning has spotted this pattern!).
If I place a £50 bet on o2.5 goals at 2/1 then I am left with the following outcomes:
A third goal is scored and Newcastle win
I make £160 (£100 at 8/5 odds on the WDW market) plus the £100 as the game went over 2.5 goals (£50 at 2/1) = £200 PROFIT
Newcastle win 2-0 (ie no more goals)
I make £160 (£100 at 8/5 odds on the WDW market) less £50 cover bet which loses ie £110 PROFIT
Newcastle either lose or draw (ie there was at least 2 more goals scored)
I lose my £100 initial bet but my o2.5 goals bet comes in at £100 so I break even
*** Note if I could have covered with o3.5 goals too at better odds but wouldnt get the double bubble if just one late goal was scored**
So, why cover some people still say well….
In short it means more or your bets wont lose (they just return the stake) and it’s losing bets that kill betting banks and the effect of smaller winnings but less stakes lost will ultimately mean you make more PROFIT. For example someone betting on yesterday’s SS would have lost their 5 point stake after Sheffield Utd held Spurs to a draw. At around 65 mins I covered to make my 19/20 bet using the third method I described above. The outcomes for me were then
Spurs win 5 pts become 3.5pts profit (as opposed to 4.75 points if the SS had won and I hadn’t covered)
Spurs dont win 5pts become a break even bet (as opposed to a 5 point loss if the SS hadnt been covered)
Take this over the course of the month using Mr F’s SS daily which I back religiously with my own 5pt stake and his results for the year so far without covering are approx 8 points loss) however by religiously covering I am showing circa 28 points of profit for the year to date (a swing of almost 26 points).
Of course you can’t cover every type of bet (goalscorer for example) but most of the bets on this site are more than coverable using the opposite outcomes (unders if you back overs, double chance etc).
I know some people will say “when should I cover?”. This is an impossible question to answer. As my bets tend to be for reasonable sums I have a lower tolerance than others might have. Generally if I can cover and the cost is less than 10% of my potential winnings I cover regardless of the time) otherwise I work on the basis of gut feeling however compared to some on here my risk aversion might be considered quite conservative.
WasClueless, in most cases I’d cover. Part of the reason I didn’t was because I already had a 6-1 winner which ironically I did cover – Greece draw no bet at 10-1 just after they went 2-0 down.

Woke up this morning and realised that the Argentina game wasn’t a bad dream at all, it was reality.
My pre-game concerns regarding Argentina proved to be correct. Fantastic going forward but absolutely woeful at the back and i guess they’ve always had this problem. Messi, Aguero & Co will never win any major tournament until they build from the back as a starting point. It’s all well and good playing like Barcelona going forward but Barca can defend pretty damn well, as they have done this season.
The match wasn’t helped by some hilariously stupid substitutions by Martino at the key point in the game, when it was obvious Argentina was on the back front and instead of shoring up the midfield to stem Paraguay’s attacking flow, he takes off the pace of Di Maria and Aguero and sticks on Tevez & Higuian with particularly Higuian a player not known for tracking back and work rate.
Massive shame about the result. Two completely different sides in either half. Still fuming about it now

2. It didn’t answer laskillfuls question as he wanted to know how to cover the -1 on Argentina.
What it does show is a range of options to cover a bet on WDW. A great write up but wasn’t needed at the time. No limelight being taken as I gave the correct answers. What you can’t tell someone is how much they should cover as we don’t know what stakes. You need to be fairly competent with maths also. Not just a case of putting a stake on the cover option.

Personally I think Chile could be more likely to win the tournament than Argentina quite simply because they don’t concede as many. Really like the work rate and desire that Columbia possess incomparisson to Argentina. Chile to win for me.
Yesterday was a nightmare. Uruguay sank my nap, Germany were pathetic in the first half, then I lumped on Argentina -1 and didn’t cash out at half time when offered 80%+ profit. Agree with Jordan, Colombia and Brazil both to score 2+ double in their respective games to bring up a meaty evens and also agree with Greg that there’ll be atleast 2 goals in the Russia Austria game, but I’ll delve a little deeper into this one for some chunky Superb Shingle value.
Russia vs Austria in the 5pm kick off at the Otkrytie arena in Moscow, a brutal place to play to for any team and thats not because of the weather. Its actually an enviable 28 degree C out there.
Austria are yet to set foot on Russian soil so first time nerves are probably a given, however they can go in knowing they’ve not lost to Russia in their only two encounters. The reverse fixture saw them win 1-0. A tight scrappy game. The home team have not failed to score in a Euro league match on home soil since 2011 where they drew 0-0 with Ireland. Austria are pretty much in the same boat, having scored in 4 of their last 6 Euro league away games in the same time period, including 2 goals in Germany. They’re in good form sitting 4 points clear at the top of the tree, with the best attacking and defensive record in the group.
Russia on the other hand know they need to step up their game, sitting 3rd with half the teams in the group substantially below par, they know they should be in the top two by now. The main advantage is their home ground and this is reflected in their best attacking home record in the group, mustering 5 goals in 2 games, the same 2 teams Austria put a total of 7 past. Away.
Bookies slightly favour a home win (6/5), but Austria shouldnt be giving up just yet at a crucial stage of the campaign.

After yesterday’s mauling I took from the bookies I need to keep things basic today and try to get back on track. 3 bets for me and I think I’ll be agreeing with many on here. After Uruguay only managed 1-0 yesterday I was regretting not taking them to win rather than team goals. Especially as they only conceded 3 goals in the last tournament. Colombia have kept clean sheets in 5 of their last 7 so I’m taking them to win today doubled with Brazil. Brazil under Dunga have kept 8 clean sheets from their 10 straight wins since the world cup last summer and are seemingly more efficient and less flamboyant than their reputation would suggest. Hopefully reverting back to WDW doesn’t bite me on the arse, but the double pays over evens and seems very obvious.

I know that is some ridiculously high totals. Norway and Germany are tied in the group with Germany only bettering Norway by a +6 goal difference. The Norwegians play the whipping ‘boys’ Ivory Coast who are probably on par with Ecuador as the worst side defensively in the tournament, so a big win for Norway is probably on the cards.
3 points a cert as certs can be for both sides but Germany will want to keep the goal difference better and finish top to get the weaker opponent in the knockouts. Although Germany finished 1-1 with Norway, they had an incredible 27 attempts at goal (according to Flash Scores) so I would not be surprised if they doubled those attempts vs the Thais who lost 4-0 to Norway, and even let Ivory Coast score twice in their game. Thailand still have a chance to qualify as best third place team,. but would need other results to go their way in the other group games, which is highly unlikely considering the deficit they probably lose by against the Germans. Cue the 1-0 Germany win :D
