Uruguay v France 20:00

Despite boasting a squad peppered with players plying their trades in Europe's best leagues, Liverpool's Luis Suarez among them, La Celeste have been busy writing themselves out of qualifying contention for next year's World Cup in neighbouring Brazil.

Uruguay are enveloped in a cloud at present, only winning twice in their last 13 outings across the board.

France's own form has been a little patchy, though defeats to Germany and Spain in recent times are excusable.

With neither side finding the net with any degree of prolificity in recent times and going on the stalemate they produced in their last encounter last August, a goal-fest feels unlikely.

France do however prosper in away international friendlies. Les Bleus are unbeaten away from French soil since August 2010 on the international scene (ignoring a neutral game with Spain at Euro 2012), beating England, Germany and most recently Italy in that run.

ENGLAND U21 v Italy u21 19:30

England get their Under 21 European Championships campaign underway on Wednesday night as they take on Italy at Bloomfield in Tel Aviv, Israel (Sky Sports 2, 7.30pm). These two teams are the giants of Group A, which includes tournament hosts Israel and Norway, and both sides will be keen to avoid defeat in this opening fixture.

They have met 12 times at under-21 level in the past, winning four games each, and it is expected to be a tight affair this week. Stuart Pearce's England have been in fine form heading into the tournament and they can be backed at 21/10 in the match odds with William Hill, while Italy are marginal 7/5 favourites and the draw can be backed at a tempting 21/10.

Neither side would be too disappointed with a draw in this first match as a point-apiece would leave them well positioned to qualify for the semi-finals. The top-two teams from each group go through to the last-four and England will be looking to make sure they reach the latter stages in what is their fourth successive appearance at the European Championship finals.

Pearce saw his side finish runners up in 2009 but they failed to get out of the group stages in 2011 and a big improvement will be needed. They could hardly have done anymore in qualifying for this summer's competition in Israel as they won Group 8 by winning seven of their eight matches, while scoring 24 goals and conceding only three. They then beat Serbia 2-0 on aggregate in the play-offs as they enhanced their impressive defensive record.

England have kept nine successive clean sheets (including friendly matches) and it is no surprise to see that this week's game is 7/10 odds on to involve under 2.5 goals. England also boast a threat going forward and Wilfried Zaha will be full of confidence after his explosive Championship play-off displays helped Crystal Palace reach the Premier League. Zaha is off to Manchester United this summer and he will be keen to impress, with Hills going 8/1 that he scores first.

Italy also boast a significant goal threat though and they are one of the pre-tournament favourites to win this competition for a sixth time. They qualified for this year's finals by winning Group 7, winning six and losing only one of their eight games, while they scored 27 goals and conceded eight. They then beat Sweden 4-2 on aggregate in the play-offs and Ciro Immobile was the hero.

Immobile grabbed a couple of goals as he took his tally to seven goals in 12 appearances for the under-21's. The Genoa striker has endured a tough season in Serie A with his club side but he continues to thrive on the international stage and he is 11/2 joint-favourite to score first, along with Roma starlet Mattia Destro.

Liverpool's Fabio Borini is also well fancied to open the scoring, despite only scoring one Premier League goal last term, and he is available at 6/1 ahead of a potential meeting with several of his English club mates. The concern for Italy will be their poor disciplinary record though as their last five qualifiers involved four red cards, with Hills going 5/2 for a red card to be shown in Wednesday's match, while they offer 19/10 for Italy to receive over three cards.

There is the potential for the match in Tel Aviv to be a spicy one as neither side will want to give an inch in this opening fixture. Defeat for either would leave them playing catch-up in the group stages and it wouldn't be a surprise to see both teams settle for a draw, with the correct score of 1-1 currently available at 6/1.

ENGLAND V New Zealand 3rd ODI 13:30

England and New Zealand's preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy conclude on Wednesday as they meet in the third and final match of their ODI Series at Trent Bridge (Sky Sports 1, 1.30pm). New Zealand have had by far the better of the series so far as they sealed a 2-0 victory with a resounding win at the Rose Bowl over the weekend and they will be full of confidence.

In stark contrast, Champions Trophy hosts England have been in dire form as they shave failed to adapt to the one-day arena and they are struggling to justify their tag as one of the ‘favourites' for the upcoming 50-over competition. They have been comprehensively outplayed by New Zealand over the weekend as they lost by 5 wickets at Lord's on Friday before a crushing 86-run loss in Southampton on Sunday handed them their first ODI series defeat on home soil since 2009.

Alastair Cook will be extremely worried about the set up of his side but his team are 8/13 odds on favourites for Wednesday's match at Trent Bridge, while New Zealand can be backed at 5/4 with Ladbrokes. It seems remarkable to think that England could be considered favourites after the mauling they have suffered so far and Cook will be tempted to ring the changes for this final match of the one-day series.

The make-up of his bowling attack will be causing him a massive headache as Steven Finn and Stuart Broad are out injured and doubtful for the Champions Trophy, while their replacements have been absolutely abysmal. Jade Dernbach's 10 overs went for 87 runs on Sunday as he posted the fourth most expensive figures by an English bowler in ODI history, while only James Anderson can emerge with any credit and he is 5/2 to be top England bowler on Wednesday.

Trent Bridge does tend to offer plenty of assistance to fast bowlers and the fact this week's match is a day/night affair ensures that the toss could be crucial. The team batting second under lights might struggle with the swinging ball and it could be worth waiting for the toss before placing your bet on the match winner.

If England are to win this dead rubber then they will need to improve with the bat too and Alastair Cook is 11/4 to lead from the front and be his team's top run scorer. They be tempted to call up Jonny Bairstow, who impressed with a couple of sprightly knocks during the recent ODI series, and he is 8/1 to be top batsman with Ladbrokes Bookmakers, who are offering a money back special on pre-match bets if Joe Root is top England run scorer.

Root played well for a time in a partnership with Jonathan Trott on Sunday and it was only Trott who emerged with any credit from the match. His unbeaten hundred proved to be in vain as New Zealand's Martin Guptill had well and truly taken the match away from England earlier in the day.

Guptill scored 189 off 155 balls at the Rose Bowl as he hit the highest ever ODI score by a New Zealand batsman, just days after his unbeaten 103 at Lord's. Guptill is in great nick and he is 3/1 to be top New Zealand batsman, although his opening partners continue to struggle. Luke Ronchi continued his poor form at the Rose Bowl and New Zealand's last seven ODI's have seen them record a highest partnership of 12 runs, with the 5/6 on offer for New Zealand's first wicket to fall with under 20.5 runs on the board looking like a decent bet.

Ross Taylor has had to pick up the slack after the fall of an early wicket in recent times and he has looked in fine touch with scores of 60 and 54 in the two ODI's on English soil so far. Taylor is a best price 7/2 to be top New Zealand batsman on Wednesday as the Black Caps look to complete a perfect build up for the Champions Trophy, which starts on Thursday.

WESTERN FORCE V BRITISH and IRISH LIONS 11:00

PERTH, Australia – Western Force coach Michael Foley has blamed a tight schedule for having to leave out regular starting players from his squad to face the British and Irish Lions on Wednesday night.

The Lions thrashed the Barbarians 59-8 on Saturday in Hong Kong and have an all-new starting XV for the second of their 10 matches on tour, with 34-year-old Ireland centre Brian O'Driscoll — who has played 131 tests and is on his fourth Lions tour — leading the team against Western Force.

The Force has an important Super Rugby clash against the New South Wales Waratahs on Sunday, forcing Foley to find a balance in his selections.

His squad includes six players with test experience and will be led by backrower Matt Hodgson.

The Lions face Australia in three tests starting June 22 and have warmup matches against the Force, Queensland Reds, New South Wales Waratahs, ACT Brumbies and a ‘combined country' team comprising players born in regional Australia before then. The Lions haven't won a series since 1997 in South Africa, losing 2-1 to Australia in 2001, 3-0 to New Zealand in 2005 and 2-1 to the Springboks in 2009.

    State of origin game 1

    New South Wales vs Queensland

I think the Blues win this game and the series, although Queensland have the big names in their ranks, and have owned this series recently I believe the younger squad and with the 2 games at home they can win the series, and will take a huge step by winning Game 1 at evens.

My try scorer selection is quite simple, and whilst Billy Slater and Greg Ingliss will prove popular, there mainly quite short price. As I already mentioned I fancy the blues to nick this and the in form Michael Jennings 2/1 betvictor is my selection to lead New South Wales to a win.

What do you lads think of Denmark at home to Georgia -1 at 5/6??

    • Milesey 11 years ago

I’d personally stay clear of this game, but totally down to you. From a preview i read they have hardly sold a ticket for this game. On the preview it said to take ” denmark win/draw @ 1.23 ” and that is no value at all, warned to stay clear of any handicap market, so for me personally i’ll just leave this game alone, but it’s down to you, they may win 3-0, may end a 0-0, i’d rather just stay clear and not worry about it, not heard a thing about the squad, who is likely to play, what kind of team it will be, will it be youngsters, i don’t know when they have their next game.

      “”””” DENMARK V GEORGIA

This is yet another international friendly game. Denmark has a very important World Cup Qualifier coming up on the 11th against Armenia. For this match the danes are without their very solid Central Defenders Agger and Kjær. Daniel Jensen, Nicholas Jørgensen and Nicklas Bendtner will sit out too. Rommedahl is a doubt. Georgia will field the same team more or less that lost 4-0 away to the Republic of Ireland recently.

It is expected Denmark coach Morten Olsen will tinker with the squad. Players like Jeseper Hansen (Nordsjaelland), Kasper Kusk (Aalborg) and Esbjerg trio Martin Braithwite, Kian Hansen and Peter Ankersen could be given their debut in front of a far from sold out stadium in Aalborg.

Even if the Danes hasn’t won on Danish soil in five tries this is a good opportunity to make things right and gain some confidence before the Armenia game. They’ve had really good teams visiting them lately in Portugal, Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Bulgaria. Georgia is far away from the level of those sides.

Denmark are obviously favorites against Georgia. As this is a friendly, and a game that seems to yield little home support (looking at ticket sales) I am going to be very careful with the Handicap bets.””””””

    CROATIA V SCOTLAND

Croatia host Scotland in Zagrab as they try and steal a march on group rivals Belgium in Group A.

Croatia are on a great run of form as they look to cement their claims to a winners spot on Group A. Since bowing out of Euro 2012 at the group stages Croatia are unbeaten in 7 and altogether are on a run of 6 wins, draw and 1 defeat. Croatia contain pretty much the same squad from the last finals but have switched a few personnel around. Out goes the hopelessly out of form Everton striker Nikola Jelavic. Croatia have supreme back up in the shape of Mandzukic, Olic and Da Silva. In World Cup qualifying Group A Croatia sit joint top with 5 wins, 1 draw and 0 defeats. Belgium have the same record and this group looks like going down to the wire. The group is relatively tough too with no minnow, but Croatia have made light work of Wales and Macedonia twice and Scotland.

Scotland seem to be declining at an alarming rate and even the appointment of legendary player Gordon Strachan has had little effect. The dearth of quality for Scotland has been in evidence for years and its been a long time since they could field a side capable of picking up points. Scotland’s overall form since New Year 2012 is not too bad with 3 wins, 3 draws and 5 defeats. Scotland are looking to Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes for their main strike threat. He is decent at that level but not a striker to be feared at international level. I think Strachan will try and build from the back and get the side back on an even keel. This qualifying has gone now but they do need to try and finish as high as possible to avoid falling into the lower pots for future draws. In this qualifying section Scotland have been awful and sit bottom with 0 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats. It will be difficult for the Scots to climb the table as they are probably the worst side in the group.

    CROATIA V SCOTLAND: BETTING TIPS

This should be a straight forward win for Croatia in a match that is very one sides. With a huge gap of 14 points after only 6 games this is a real top v bottom clash. My only worry is Scotland can stifle Croatia and may park the bus at the back. Croatia though are quality through and through and are used to having to go at teams. With Luka Modric pulling all the strings and with quality up front Croatia should be able to breach the back line of the Scots. I take Croatia -1 at 1.60 (Bet365) in Asian Handicap. We get stakes returned on a 1 goal win and collect on any other victory.

    ————————————————————————————————————

    CZECH REPUBLIC V ITALY

Czech Republic welcome Italy to Prague for this intriguing Group B qualifier of World Cup qualifying.

Czech Republic are in decent form going into this vital World Cup Qualifier. Since losing to Portugal in second round of Euro 2012 Czech Republic have won 4, drawn 3 and lost 2. With 11 goals scored and 5 conceded (with 5 clean sheets too) The Czechs have played some decent opposition in that time too so the form line is fairly strong. Only Malta would be classed a walkover in those games. The Czech Republic have blooded a lot of new players this year after a lot of the old guard left the side. Indeed only keeper Petr Cech, Tomas Rosicky. Tomas Hubschmann and Jaroslav Plasil have over 50 caps. Among the new caps there are a few decent prospects. Defender Theodor Gabre-Selassie was their best player at the Euros, Matej Vydra looks class and opened his international account recently. Striker David Lafata is hardly a youngster but the lightly capped Sparta Prague man has an excellent striker rate and is in top form at the moment. Czech Republic sit in 3rd position in Group B with 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss.

Italy have been in OK form themselves since grabbing the runners up spot in Euro 2012. 5 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats. The run is not that strong when you look into the opposition during that run. Italy lost to France and England, when technically superior to both sides. Their wins were over Malta (twice), San Marino and Armenia so the current playing form of the side is hard to judge. In that run of games Italy have scored 21 and conceded 11 which is unlike the Italy sides we know. Indeed in 10 games Italy only managed clean sheets against Malta and San Marino which suggests some uncertainty at the back. Italy like the Czechs are trying new players and systems, up front they are likely to go with the new Milan duo of El Sharaawy and Balotelli. With the ageless Pirlo in behind to keep the side ticking over Italy look good going forward. Italy top Group B with 4 wins, 1 draw and 0 defeats.

CZECH REPUBLIC V ITALY: BETTING TIPS

Its a really hard game to call this one as both sides are going through a few changes. Both sides are better attacking than defending thats for sure so we take the Over 2.5 goals at 2.30 (Bet365) Italy are very shaky at the back at the moment and I think both sides are capable of scoring here for sure. Czech’s must take a win here if they want to progress in the qualifying.

    —————————————————————————————————————–

    ARMENIA V MALTA

Armenia look to grab a double win over minnows Malta in the quest for points in this bottom of the table clash in Yerevan.

Armenia seem to be improving all the time, their results are mixed but there is encouragement. Since New Year 2012 Armenia have 4 wins, 1 draw and 6 defeats. With 14 goals scored and 17 conceded they are starting to compete in games against the big boys. Armenia have some decent young players now too and in midfield they have a very creative centre. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a very exciting attacking midfielder and is attracting the eyes of several top level clubs across Europe. At Shaktar Donestk now he is pulling the strings for them and the national side. Naturalised Brazilian Marcos Pizzelli has spent his entire career in Eastern Europe and looks quality for Armenia too. Upfront the Armenians have several options with three decent strikers, all with decent strike rates. In Group B Armenia have struggled results wise but have given good accountof themselves in each game. Sitting in 5th with a game in hand with 1 win, 0 draw and 3 defeats they can go level with Denmark with a win here.

Malta have improved their game marginally and are now one of the better sides out of the really small teams. They have shown their mettle with wins over several sides around them at the bottom of the FIFA rankings. However in game against anyone of note they are still struggling. Malta have several decent players but have far too many poor ones. Malta’s recent form looks decent with 4 wins, 1 draw and 5 defeats. But if you look into the statistics you see wins over Liechtenstein (twice) San Marino and Luxembourg. A draw against Northern Ireland is not too bad but they were hammered by Bulgaria and Czech Republic. Italy beat them twice but never really got going in either game and seemed happy to take 2-0 wins twice. Malta sit bottom of Group B with 5 losses from 5 with 1 goal scored and 14 conceded.

    ARMENIA V MALTA: BETTING TIPS

The odds on a home win are really short and although on paper this looks a certain home win Armenia must break down the 10 men Malta will put behind the ball. Armenia are a much improved side and for me one who will continue to do so. I think Armenia have the ability to score a few goals here and with Malta unlikely to trouble the scorer Armenia -1.5 at 1.75 with Bet365 looks a great bet. Malta have managed a solitary goal in the whole campaign. It was a goal in Prague against the Czechs but it was a 30 yard screamer that can be chalked down as a fluke. Especially since they have not got close to scoring since.

    ——————————————————————————————————–

    PORTUGAL V RUSSIA

Russia is top of European World Cup Qualification Group F under Fabio Capello with four wins in four matches. Portugal are third with 11 points in six matches. Just goal difference separates them from Isreal in 2nd place.

Portugal were favorites for winning this group, but Russia have looked impressive while Portugal perhaps have been a subpar so far. For instance, they needed an injury time goal to secure a point against Israel. They actually went 1-0 up in that one, but had to work themselves out of a 3-1 down hole.

Not only have Russia won all four games so far, they havent conceded a goal yet. With their technical, well composed football Russia is a force in today’s game. Many tipped them to do well in the European Championship, but perhaps it is only now we get to see what Russia is capable of?

When the teams met in Russia, the home side won 1-0 after Kerzhakov scored an early goal. Neither side has absences that should have an effect on the outcome of this game.

    BETTING TIPS
I expect Russia to soak up Portugese pressure, and aim for quick breaks when good opportunities arise. The Russians are just experts of that playing style, so I do not doub’t they’ll mangage to see their strategy through in an effective way. It will be up to Portugal to take this game to the Russians and not give them too much space to counter in. I am sure coach Bento is very aware of that, and is preparing his big guns for battle. The Russian defense will of course get a handful to handle when Portugal attacks from either flank, but Russia showed they could handle that in the reverse fixture. They’ll be confident they can again.

Portugal is priced around 4/5 (1.80). I do not fancy that price. Portugal has had many great editions, but this one doesn’t seem too be up to their standards. Russia has done more than plenty to prove they’re top drawer. Anyhow; I rate this game more open than the odds indicate.

    GREG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PHILIPPINE AIR FORCE V KAYA FC

    GLOBAL FC V LOYOLA FC

any tips for these two games tomorrow ?

Not going to speak for Greg but he’ll probably recommend over 1.5HT on both. Global are in a race for the title with Stallions and may just have enough to beat Loyola though it might not be that high scoring as Global have only conceded 2 goals in 6 matches at home. Loyola have scored 19 and conceded 13 in 8 away matches.

As for the other game, Kaya are mid-level by the league’s standards (joint fourth) and Air Force are a bit shit :D

    Boston Bruins – Pittsburgh Penguins

Boston limped into the playoffs and were nearly eliminated in the first round by the Leafs. Since that wake-up call, the Bruins are a whole different team. They took out the Rangers 4-1 in round 2 with a GF:GA of 16:10 and in the first 2 games of this round lead the Penguins 2-0 and have outscored them 9-1.

Boston goalie, Tuukka Rask, has really picked up his game. He was good during the regular season as well as in round 1 vs Toronto where he had a GAA of 2.49 with 0.923 SV%. Since then, he has taken his game to a whole new level going 6-1 with GAA of 1.49 and 0.948 SV%. Outside of 1 poor game vs NY, he’s allowed just 7 goals in his 6 wins.

At the other end of the ice, the Penguins have major goaltending issues. Tomas Vokoun will be back in the net tonight after getting pulled in his previous game (3 goals in the first 16 minutes). He took over from #1 starter Fleury in the Islander series and looked decent against the low scoring Senators. However, the Penguins dominated that series and most action was in the offensive zone; this series is far different.

This is a very important game for both teams but I expect BOS to prevail. If they allow PIT to win tonight then they are back in the series and things could get tough. A 3-0 series lead is very important so I do not expect them to ease off tonight. The first 2 games were OTR and tonight they have last change at home so I expect at least as strong a win.

Offence wins games but defence wins championships and the Bruins have both at the moment.

What country is the flora game from?

  23. Ruby 11 years ago

Looks like it could be about 15-0 by the stats! I take it there’s no betting open on the game yet in bet365? Can only see one Estonian cup game and its a different one

Hopefully will appear on bet 365, would be amazed if it isn’t double figures in that one
