I WAS delighted to waken to news of a USA win in the Gold Cup to return the Super Single to profit for the month.
My 2pts success was on over 2.5 goals at Galway-Dundalk and the USA to beat Honduras in their tournament opener.
I gave away a point with a speculative bet on Coco Vanderweghe to beat Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon and while she pushed the Russian to three sets she didn’t have enough to outlast the game’s No.1 grunter.
My Top Treble was again close with Serena Williams and TNS winning but Levadia being surprisingly held at home to Crusaders to crash out of the Champions League qualifiers.
Apart from friendlies and the later Gold Cup games there’s not a lot to look at on Wednesday.
My summer record with friendlies is 100 per cent and two teams I want to look at for goals are Standard Liege at RERC Amay (4.30pm) and AZ Alkmaar at AFC 34 (6pm) but I don’t think I’ll be back until around 5pm. Team news and markets aren’t available just now but I’d advise anyone interested to keep a look out. Others of interest include Kematen v Feyenoord (5pm) and Genk at Geel (6pm).
At Wimbledon we’ve reached the men’s quarter-finals and the top four seeds have survived – with only Novak Djokovic being seriously pushed.
Djoko faces a tough test against Marin Cilic and having been taken to the wire by Kevin Anderson in the last round you have to fancy the Croat to win at least one set. Take over 3.5 sets at 6-4 with bet365.
A treble on Djokovic, Murray and Federer pays no more than 1-3 – add Wawrinka and it goes up to evens at boylesports.
Wawrinka possibly faces possibly the biggest hurdle of the top four against Richard Gasquet who has dropped just one set in the tournament against a distracting Nick Kyrgios. Again I like over 3.5 sets but it pays no better than 1-2 at bet365.
Murray and Federer both dropped sets in their last-16 clashes so 3-0 to either isn’t a given but I can see Murray winning in straight sets against unseeded Vasek Pospisil who must be exhausted after playing 10 sets in singles and doubles on Monday. A 3-0 Murray win pays 4-11 at Betfred and bet365.
Simon’s another who’s had a superb run but Federer will be too strong and for me it’s 3-0 or maybe 3-1 at 14-5 with sportingbet.
