IT'S the penultimate day of the World Matchplay darts in Blackpool and the game's two biggest names are on course for a blockbuster meeting in the final.

World No.1 and title favourite Michael van Gerwen begins the semi-final action tonight and is 2-9 at Boylesports against Peter Wright, who is bidding to claim his first major title and is 4-1 at BetVictor to reach the final.

Then it's defending champ Phil Taylor – 2-7 at Titanbet – taking on James Wade who is 10-3 at bet365 and has lost four Blackpool finals to The Power.

Chris Froome's lead at the Tour de France has been trimmed to two minutes 38 seconds but is within touching distance of glory ahead of today's last competitive stage.

The British ace is just 1-12 at Betway to take the title and 10-3 at BetVictor to win stage 21, with Nairo Quintana the 10-11 favourite at Coral.

There's also the likes of rugby, tennis and cricket on a packed day of sport so let's hear your tips and good luck with your bets.

I like quintana to win stage 21. Think he will give it a real go to try and reduce the gap to froome.

    Quintana 10/11

    Wade vs Taylor

I have a large stake on taylor to win the tournement so aslong as he wins tomorow night i will be happy. Hehas played wade many times at the matchplay and has not lost to him. Both are similar players, by that i mean they are methodical and like to wear the opponent out with consistent scoring and crucial double hitting. The only difference is that taylor is better at this than wade or anyone else in my opinion. I expect wade to put up a good fight (like he usually does) but i dont think he has the quality to beat taylor.

    Main bet

    Taylor over 7.5 180s 5/6 £60
    – Fancy taylor to cover the 7.5 line as he has started to hit a lot more 180s than he used to. He has been scoring well all tournement and i expect this game to go at least 27 legs giving him more than enough time.

    Fun bets

    Correct score
    17-11 17/2 £7.50
    17-12 9/1 £7.50
    17-13 9/1 £7.50
    – Like i said, i expect wade to make it a contest but i just dont think he has the game to cause the
    power any real problems.

    Phil Taylor to hit a 9 darter 14/1 £7.50
    – He said keep your money on it so i will be doing. Missed the double 12 the other day and like i said he has been scoring well all tournement.

£90 staked currently. May up the stakes depending on how i do with the racing tomorow. Limit myself to £100 loss a day so it depends on how this game goes before i bet on the other semi.

Sorry for the long post, first attempt at a write up.

What am I on about?? Estrella lost! Apologies. All eggs in Zverevs basket now. Can he get past the vastly experienced Robredo??

No time for an in-depth write up but the White Sox Ace, Chris Sale, who I believe is criminally underrated, pitches tonight as an underdog against a mediocre Cleveland lineup.

Cleveland’s pitcher is a good one, Carrasco, but he is not in Sale’s class. If we can look past Sale’s last outing in which he gave up 4 runs (not bad!) against a very good KC lineup, he has been as dominant as anyone over his last 10 starts or so.

I think the line will go the other way, the closer to first pitch it gets.

Please don’t just follow, do your research and shop around for the best prices!

Good luck with all your bets.

    Afternoon Guys Matchplay Darts

It is Semi final night and it should be a cracking night at the winter gardens. It sees four of top six in the world going head to head. My pick MVG faces old rival Peter Wright and the only two players to have won this tournament currently playing going head to head as Phil Taylor takes on James Wade.

    Phil Taylor v James Wade

Taylor as won all three meetings this year against Wade, winning both on the big stage in the premier league 7-1 and 7-5. Taylor also has beaten Wade 5 times on this stage, four times in the final and once at this stage. In 2013 he won a semi final 17-12. Last night Taylor won the first session 3-2 and the second session 4-1, and suddenly Chisnall who was averaging 102 at the time was 7-3 down going into the second break, that is what Taylor does. Wade cant afford to be any worse than 5-5 tonight otherwise it will be a long night for him.

I tipped Wade to cover the -4.5 handicap and he duly did although he made hard work of it, leading 13-6 at one point he completely lost focus but he averaged 100 again and for the 3rd game in a row his doubling was impressive as he checked out at 44% to go with 43% and 48% he done this tournament. I mentioned last night his 140 scoring his superb and he hit 23 last night if he keeps to those stats he can run the power close. I also mentioned last night that Taylor hadn’t averaged a 100 yet and he did last night with a 102 and a checkout of 48% his best of the tournament by at least 10pts.

The bets I like for this one is Wade +5.5 on the handicap at 4/5 Various. He loves this big stage if he can continue banging in those 140s he will give Taylor a game. I also like O140.5 match checkout at 5/6 various, and Taylor to cover his 180 line set at 7.5. He hit 7 last night against Chisnall in a 16-8 win, in which he wasn’t really pushed. It is 6/5 Paddy Power.

WADE +5.5 ON THE HANDICAP 4/5
    O140.5 MATCH CHECKOUT 5/6
    TAYLOR O7.5 TOTAL 180s 6/5

    Van Gerwen v Wright

Peter Wright as been trying to get under MVG skin with comment made again, he predicted he would be facing Ian White tonight and to be fair he was almost right. Previously he as referred to MVG rise to the top as having a “little run” and whilst on a 3 dart combination having it the first two trebles he walked around the stage geeing up the crowd. I expect the crowd to be pro Wright tonight especially at the odds available, most neutrals will have a tenner on him at those odds. They have met six times this season with MVG winning 4 times a draw in the premier league and Wright winning their last meeting last month in the semi final of the Japan masters 8-7. MVG won their last major tv match beating Wright 11-5 in the UK open final, he as also beaten him on this stage and in the world championship final.

Stats wise there is nothing between these two Wright as averaged 108.13, 95.65 and 98.27 while MVG has 99.19, 110.93 and 102.04. Wright checkout percentages have been 50% 36% and 48%, while MVG stats read 56% 59% and 41%. It all points to a close game although MVG cant afford to go 6-1 down like he did against White. I do think this will be a long game and O27.5 total legs looks a good bet at 10/11 Betvictor. I also think O139.5 match checkout is on, both these love the big out shots and MVG is clinical on 156. It is 5/6 William Hill. My final selection is for MVG to pound in the 180s, he will hit a purple patch at some point in this game and with at least 28 legs I can see him covering 10.5. It is 6/5 Sportingbet. If you don’t have an account with them it is evens at Betvictor.

    O27.5 TOTAL LEGS 10/11
    O139.5 MATCH CHECKOUT 5/6
    MVG O10.5 TOTAL 180s 6/5

I am also advising a double on both the match checkouts going over pays just over 11/5 at William Hill. Don’t forget about the 9 darter always a fun bet for a night at the darts, Enjoy.

Good luck if your having a bet

Lost my handicap bet and won my 180’s bet…I can deal with that.

I didn’t know what to cheer for! Wade is possibly my favourite player but I love seeing a legend like Taylor win. When he missed those 8 darts for the match I wanted a Taylor comeback but couldn’t bare to see him lose from there.

Tomic looks like a broken man. The obligatory medical timeout

  22. Ad 9 years ago

I really don’t get why there’s been so much hype over tomic over the years. I just don’t see him having the game or head to ever be a top 5 player. Wouldn’t be surprised to see mannarino beat him tomorrow.

  23. Ad 9 years ago

Verdasco over Rafa is one to keep an eye on this week. It was 15-0 to Rafa but Fernando has won the last two, including a win this year. Not great form but Rafa must have no confidence in his game whatsoever right now. I’ll be interested to see the odds
