THE OPEN takes centre stage on Thursday with the first of what should be four action-packed days from Royal Liverpool.
Golf tipster Ace Venturer has already put up his tips and I've commented about the players I've taken on the outrights.
There are of course dozens of markets to look at including twoball, threeball, make the cut, miss the cut, top nationality, winning nationality, first-round leader, etc, etc.
Matteo Mannassero is a player I considered on the outrights and he won The Amateur Championship on a links course so I'm on him at 5-4 to be top Italian ahead of Francesco Molinari and his brother Edoardo.
There are only four amateurs in the field and I'm taking the favourite, 11-10 chance Scot Bradley Neil, who should use his links experience to finish ahead of the rest and possibly claim the Silver Medal on offer for the lowest amateur who makes the cut.
Add Tom Watson to make the cut. The American veteran is almost a pensioner but is king of the links and of course almost won five years ago at Turnberry before losing a play-off. Watson, 6-4 with various bookies, has five Open victories to his credit and while he won't contend this week has enough nous to get four rounds in and please the crowd.
Originally I put this up as a treble but looks like bet 365 are only taking singles – so three singles it is.
I've put Ace Venturer's outright tips on the end as a reminder and the players I've backed (all each-way) are Martin Kaymer, Henrik Stenson, Rickie Fowler, Graeme McDowell and Miko Ilonen. I'm thinking about adding Shane Lowry and Mannassero but may until I see how they start.
Tony Gallopin won the 12th stage of the Tour de France but Vincenzo Nibali remains the favourite to win the yellow jersey at 2-9 with Paddy Power ahead of 13-2 Richie Porte.
Put up all your sports tips here including The Open and 13th stage of the Tour.

Ianfitz1210, cheers. Hadn’t tried to place it yet – just got the odds from oddschecker. They’re not related in any way so surprised they’re not doing singles and above. Let’s see if anyone else is.
Treble refused with Paddy Power to.
Have to back Westwood each way first 7 places at 66/1 paddy power,i know he is in horrible form but at the price surely worth a bet.
Furyk to beat Clarke and Watson at 10/11 in tomorrows 3ball i for one having a good bet on this in my opinion its buying money, any thoughts
Don’t understand why the bookies aren’t allowing multiples. Odd!
Betfair may allow trebles on this.
OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
FIRST ROUND LEADER
ADAM SCOTT 25/1 (EACH WAY) (1/4 1-6) (Skybet)
Just my opinion as he has prepared well for this tournament.
raaljaca, I don’t have a betfair account but probably should. Good luck with Scott first-round leader – it’s a tough market to pick a winner.
Raal I’ve backed your Adam Scott tip and its looking good so far. Lets hope he continues the way he has started and he’ll soon be catching Rory.
craigyboy, hope it comes in for anybody who followed it mate but more a selection than tip :)
JORDAN SPEITH 40/1 (EACH WAY)
TO WIN OUTRIGHT
Tour de France stage 12
No match-ups out there I like, the ones I fancy are really short. We have got a same sort of stage tomorrow as we had today. Some climbs in the final and a sprint is expected with a reduced group of sprinters. Sagan is the favourite again, but somehow he still hasn’t got a stage win. I think it will happen again tomorrow and I will put a small stake on the man who was by far the fastest guy who sprinted in the group behind the winner Gallopin.
Outright stage winner John Degenkolb @ 6.00 (Unibet & William Hill)

Found them Paddy Power thanks now get over to racing you have been missed!!
Ad – Dolgopolov and Lajovic double again for me.
Not to put u off – but I am not tempted by your tips today. I think Rosol match will be close but favour Ribredo and also Simon.
Could be an inspired treble though.
In form Justin rose to beat out of sorts Westwood in 1st round…. 8/11 coral
In form Justin rose to beat out of sorts Westwood in 1st round…. 8/11 Coral

RAAL I NOTICED YOU HAD TIPPED A FIRST ROUND LEADER, WHAT WILL HAPPEN UN THE EVENT OF A JOINT LEAD? OR MR F IF YOU CAN HELP
GAZ B, deadheat rules would apply for joint leaders.
If 2 tie Gaz you get half your stake at the odds, if 3 tie a third your stake etc etc
Any thoughts on the Philipp Kohlschreiber vs Gilles Simon match?
I did fancy Kohlschreiber but Simon leads the head to head 4-1
Leeds Rhinos v Castleford Tigers ko 8pm
Thursday nights super league comes from Headingly, were the match of the round is a West Yorkshire Derby for the right to go top of the league. Leeds are the 4/11 Favs.
This should be a fierce content, especially in the opening 20mins, when both sets of forwards will tearing into each other. Leeds have been a little inconsistent losing two of their last five matches, whilst the Tigers are the surprise package of super league, and the cup semi finalist are going for their 4th win in a row to go top of the table.
The Rhino’s are getting key men back like Rob Burrow, Ben Jones-Bishop and Zak Hardaker. I just fancy the Rhinos will take bragging rights tonight. They can hold their own in the forwards and with Hardaker back from a 5 game ban, the best back line is intact and I think they can strike out wide. The overs line is 5.5 at 11/10 Various and I think eventually Leeds will break the Tigers resistance. The conditions are ideal for attacking rugby and Leeds won this fixture last season 42-24 (Castleford are a better side this year).
In the try scorer market, the top try scorers for each team Ryan Hall (15) 8/11 Betfred and Tigers Justin Carney (14) 10/11 various will be popular and I couldn’t put anyone of betting on these two. The player I want to be on his the returning Full back Zak Hardaker. He will be out to make up for lost time and prove why many people believe he is the best Full back in Super league. He is 11/10 Paddy Power.
LEEDS OVER 5.5 TRIES 11/10
HARDAKER TO SCORE 11/10
Good luck if your having a bet
Fancy a big hitter double on the boxing over the coming weeks. Appears fool proof!
Tyson Fury & Frankie Gavin @ over evens and lower stake on Fury & Gavin by points.
Nae bother Dougie I’ll be all over that thread on Saturday….missed the GGs big style !!!
We miss you DeAndre, you haven’t changed a bit either mate ;)
World matchplay darts
Kim Huybrechts, has Lewis ,Anderson , P Wright ,Bunting ,And King in his quarter of the draw but I think 8/1 is a decent shout .He has been threatening to win something big for a while ,thoughts anyone
8/1 to win his quarter and 66/1 outright. Sorry.
A tie break in Gasquet v Groth 6/5 Bet 365.
was expecting this to be odds on starting in approx another hour
wasnt around to respond to the doubts on kohlschreiber but the fact the previous wins for simon have all come on hard, the fact Kohlschreiber is at home and the fact simon hasnt played a minute of tennis yet this tournament due to withdrawals led me to lean to him.
i did singles on rosol and nara and the treble came up in very tidy fashion @ around 10/1 in the end. Look forward to more of the same tomorrow.
that may be a slight overestimation of the odds actually, as apparently i did a fourfold instead of a treble, with andujar to beat brown in there too.
I never change, just my job does :-) back to picking winners now though!!!
While it clearly won’t be a surprise to see the favourites win here, I think there’s definitely some value to be had in
Andujar to beat Ferrer @ 9/2
And in Rosol @ 9/5 to beat Kohlschreiber.
Andujar to win a set @ 6/4 could be a potential single for the day.
Rosol to win a set is around 4/6/ and also tempting.
Im also going to have a stab at Rosol to win the tournament at around 16/1 on Betfair.
Nara to beat Vinci at 2/1 also looks very good value to my cataract glazed eyes. I’d rate this as a 50/50 given Vinci’s poor hardcourt form.
Tie break in first set hope people got on.
Ad in my opinion all 3 favourites will win.Vinci recent form has been a lot better seems to have turned a corner and she is capable of beeting top ten players on her day so expect her to have to much for Nara
Nev, it wouldnt surprise me at all.
I certainly haven’t put any big sums on any of them as they’re all underdogs for a reason. I just think they’ve all got a better chance than the bookies are giving them.
If one of them wins i’m in profit. If not I haven’t staked anything I can’t afford to lose.
I’ve hardly been able to see any of the tennis this week so struggling a bit to make confident calls.
Who are you on today?
And I think the improved form of Vincis you mention is the reason she is so short. It looks like she’s turned a bit of a corner but most of her wins have come on clay and I don’t think she’s actually beaten anyone inside the top 70 in the world since she beat Wozniaki on the dirt in Madrid.
Zverev- what a player he is going to be. Jumped on at 10/1 after getting bageled in the first set and he came up with the goods. Height, defence, power, touch, intelligence, composure. He has everything, and has only just turned 17! Heard someone compare him to both Djokovic and Del Potro- can you imagine the super-human hybrid that would make!
Ad, I backed him at 2/1 when he was 2-0 down in 1st set, should have waited 4 more games!
