LEIGH GRIFFITHS’ missed penalty beat my Daily Double while Gary Mackay-Steven picked up an injury in the warm-up to render the Super Single void.
Griffiths’ failure from 12 yards meant Celtic had to settle for a 2-0 win after I’d tipped them -2 along with BATE who struggled to a 2-1 win against Dundalk.
I can’t help feeling I dodged a bullet with the other three ties ending in draws even though the home teams were rated in the region of 1-5, 1-5 and 1-20.
Those results – along with Tuesday’s – should serve a warning to punters to once again take it easy going into Thursday’s Europa League qualifiers.
I’ll post a separate Europa League preview, featuring games between Rijeka-Aberdeen and Inverness-Astra Giurgiu, and will post top tips in the morning after looking over as many games as possible.
On my preview I talk up Ferencvaros at home to Zeljeznicar and I’m adding Legia Warsaw at home to Botosani for a 6-4 double. Legia will be looking to make up for last season’s administrative error that cost them against Celtic and should see off a side who finished eighth in Romania last season and edged out Tskhinavili in the last round for their first win in Europe.
For the Super Single I looked at Odd away to Shamrock and Jagiellonia at home to Omonia Nicosia but have and Wolfsberger at Shakhtyor. Don’t have time to do a write-up as I’m heading to the Old Course but the Austrians look decent value at 3-1 with Paddy Power away to the Belarussians who beat Glenavon in round one. I won’t be back for kick-off so consider cover options if they take the lead.
