CELTIC did what no other Scottish team had managed this season by winning in Europe.
They started their Champions League qualifier with Linfield superbly and raced into a 2-0 lead but after that sloppiness in front of goal and heroics by Irish keeper Roy Carroll kept the score down.
The Scottish domestic season started on Friday with Ayr shocking Ayrshire rivals Kilmarnock in the Betfred Cup. There are another 15 ties on Saturday and I'll post a separate preview that covers my top tips.
Elsewhere there are plenty of friendlies including Celtic v Lyon, St Johnstone v Sunderland and Monaco v Stoke and games from leagues including those in Scandinavia.
My focus is on the Scottish Cups and hopefully I'll avoid the shocks as there are bound to be a couple.

The only things I’ve spotted this year re: wimbledon were the in-play ” Murray is injured – quick jump on his opponent at 2/1 ” – that come from another member on site, and pre-Wimbledon, I can’t remember which site it was but they ran some statistics on big outsiders to go far, they were looking at odds of around 100/1 and 150/1. I kinda shrugged it off and then watched the above Murray match end badly for the home favourite. I guess it might of been worth a few quid.
Right now, I’m more tuned in to cycling and am avidly watching Froome eek out the days until the time trial on Saturday. If he’s wearing the yellow jersey Saturday morning or its within 15-30 seconds, he should see off the competitors – BUT they have shortened both time trials and it creates less of an opportunity for him to carve out some big time gains. That’s the French for you.
I think the guys more suited to advise on the final is the fella with his own thread.

That Mexico result a couple of days ago would of hurt me like hell, but with a pending issue resolution over the exploits of French Guiana, I’d of probably avoided the rest of that competition like the plague.
Been watching the Tour De France and yesterdays end to the race saw Froome’s legs disappear with about 400 lo go. Aru capitalised and gained about 24 seconds on Froome to take the yellow jersey by 6 seconds.
Today it was the turn of Froome to bounce back and Aru’s stamina to fall off the cliff.
Today saw him overturn an 18 second gap to leave Aru 18 seconds behind in the GC.
I never realised this but each year, if a team dominates ( Sky ), the organisers mess around with the stages, add climbs, remove them, juggle the stages around, change the time trial days and quite unnervingly, they shorten them.
This year, the organisers shortened both time trials and aput them on day 1 and the penultimate day. ( The last day is NEVER the day that those going for the overall win race for, its the sprinters day, the GC is settled in the penultimate day. ).
The organisers have meddled with the stages to tailor make the race – in this years case to Nairo Quintano – who seems to of dropped right down the pecking order.
There are a few riders who will beat Froome in the time trial, and there a couple of minor climbs between now and that stage, but if Froome can keep the jersey either on his back or within touching distance, next Saturdays time trial SHOULD see him take his 4th title.
With team sky losing Geraint Thomas, Landar has upped his game considerably and Froome has a new Super Domestique to assist. Team Astana and Moviestar ( Aru and Quintana’s teams ) – seem to have their tactics all over the place. No organisation, no battle plan, when the GC riders going for the Tour win need them around, they’re nowhere to be seen. Landar is only 1 min 4 down on Froome for GC and he’s perfectly poised to assist with driving Froome home, or if there is a breakaway from those chasing a top 3, Landar could cover it and do damage limitation.
Not as exciting as last years race, but it has some twists and turns.
Just concentrate on the betting.
