July 14: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

JOHNB’S NB Poetic Steps won at 5-2 but there was no poetry in motion for map Poets Word which was a non-runner.

His other pick Dreaming of Gold had to settle for bronze so it was one winner from three and a 0.5pt loss. Johnb is now 15.79pts up for July.

On Friday he’s tipping Clemmie, his antepost pick for the 1000 Guineas, to win the July Stakes at Newmarket.

He says: “I have for once gone in more than recommended on Clemmie. Nyaleti is a danger but I have been impressed with Clemmie on all three runs, she has progressed well and improved with every run.”

Newmarket double & treble for me and its all about the ladies 😉

2:25 Clemmie 15/8 NB Basically a match race IMO hopefully Clemmie can pull enough out the tank to land this and make our AP bets look even better.
3:00 Titi Makfi NNB 7/2 could be a five timmer shes unbeaten thus far this year Johnston has one this last 4 years and has Ryan Moore on board ticking all the boxes for me.
17:50 Finishing Touch NAP not just expecting a win here expecting utter destruction of the field 6/4 opening mark of 81 looks like it could be laughable. or i could become Laughable if wrong but in all honesty watched maiden looks like shes a really nice filly in the making would be kind of shocked if she doesn’t bolt home.

as always BOL to you all and many congrats to all today’s winners here is to hoping more of the same tomorrow.

    Clemmie (NAP/NB)
It was interesting last time that Clemmie ran to a greater improvement than I expected, the application of a tongue strap could have been the reason, it stops the tongue from going over the top of the bit and lets the horse breathe better, the tongue strap goes on again Friday so connections must know that it aids her breathing “also worn on debut” she ran well on debut when third but her seventh in the Albany at Royal Ascot was a big step forward in form but her last run was an even bigger improvement, there may be some who are worried about the 6f but I don’t see a problem, the one difference between Churchill and Clemmie is that Clemmie looks to have more speed about her, although she is a full sister to Churchill she looks like she has more of her Dam in her which means the 6f in my opinion is perfect for her as a two year old, on form in the book she should be a 5/4 shot but we still have to remember she is being trained to have her big day on the 6th May 2018 whereas her rivals are being trained to produce more as 2yo’s, yes there is speed in this race and the Newmarket July Course favours front runners but Clemmie is suited to this distance and certainly has speed herself, NYALETI unsurprisingly has pace and should set the pace as she is trained my Mark Johnston but she won’t be given an easy lead this time or shouldn’t be as other connections now know what she is about but the trainer is in good form,
MISTRESS OF VENICE was a length ahead of Clemmie in the Albany but Clemmie has improved far more than I thought she would, OUT OF THE FLAMES was a good third in the Queen Mary, she finished well so the extra furlong will suit her but her trainer is in poor form although he has a good record in this race

All in all this is the next step in Clemmie’s progression but it speaks volumes that Aidan O’Brien sends her here rather than others, she is second favourite for next years 1000 Guineas and has shortened from the 25/1 I advised her at to prices between 12/1 & 16/1 and her odds have shortened considerably today

    Ryan Moore on Clemmie
A full sister to Churchill, I have ridden her in all three of her starts and she has progressed in each. She ran well on the far side in the Albany and she came forward again when winning a Group 3 in convincing style at the Curragh last time. I was impressed by her there, and she looks a typical Aidan improver for whom you have to give a leading chance.

    Aidan O’Brien on Clemmie
We are happy with Clemmie. She is a hardy, genuine sort and has progressed with racing; we were delighted with her the last day at the Curragh. While she turns out fairly quickly, she certainly seems to like her racing.

Ryan Moore believes Clemmie has “every chance” of establishing herself as a major candidate for next year’s 1000 Guineas following her impressive display in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket,
Moore said: “She’s just progressed with every run, which is typical of one of Aidan’s two-year-olds. She’s just got better and better.
“She was good in the Group Three the last day and was better today. I thought she did that very easily.
“I’d say she is the best (two-year-old) filly we’ve seen out this year. She’s won a six-furlong Group Two in July, she’s got the pedigree to do it and she’s got the trainer. She’s got every chance.”

Part-owner Michael Tabor said: “You have to be impressed. Obviously she’s improving all the time and she wants six furlongs, but more would suit her.
“We were all hopeful she’d go to the top on her breeding. As we know she’s a full-sister to Churchill.
“She’s won as if she wants seven furlongs and hopefully she’ll be a Guineas horse for next year. Obviously we’ll gradually step her up, I think she’ll handle a Group One all right and it could be the Moyglare.

The distance was a nose but it was finally in our favour, while you are lucky winning by the shortest margin we would have been unlucky not to win after pulling 5 lengths clear of third, Ingenuity did well to battle back after losing the lead,
As for Clemmie, the commentator on Racing UK whoever he was is simply “not having it”, not convinced with her, not admitting what a class horse she is, I often wonder if they are watching the same race, I thought she was outstanding and won with any amount in hand and if anyone can’t see that or doesn’t want to take my word for it then listen to Ryan Moore who’s says Clemmie is the best 2yo filly we have seen this year,
