The only game I considered was Malmo v Orebro and with it ending just 1-0 to Malmo I’m pleased I didn’t tip any goals bet. It was a 1pt loser for Jordan who tipped a scorer.
There are European ties on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so plenty of games to look – but so many hurdles to get over at this stage of the season.
Among Tuesday’s Champions League ties the highlight is Brendan Rodgers’ first competitive game in charge of Celtic away to minnows Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar.
Celtic, a best 1-5 at Ladbrokes, should be looking to win this by something like 4-0 or 5-0 but early in the campaign they’ll be rusty so while I’m looking for value I’m being cautious too and backing Celtic -2 AH at 9-10 with bet365.
Rodgers hasn’t done much business in the transfer market but has added strength to the attack in the shape of Moussa Dembele from Fulham. He should paired with Leigh Griffiths and surely Celtic will win by at least two against a semi-professional outfit.
Griffiths is first-scorer favourite at 12-5 with McBookie while Dembele is 16-5 with the Scots firm.
To cover the straight -2 handicap Celtic are 11-8 at Ladbrokes and anyone who thinks they can win by four or more can have 7-2 at Paddy Power. Celtic are 10-11 at Ladbrokes to score over 2.5 goals and 9-4 to hit four or more.
The handicap markets offer better value as Celtic shouldn’t conceded – Red Imps are 7-4 at Stan James to hit the target.
There’s not a lot of form to go on but last season Lincoln weren’t disgraced as they lost 2-0 at home to the Danish champions Midtjylland.
Other games include Legia Warsaw at Zrinski, Dinamo Tbilisi at home to Alashkert, BATE at home to SJK, Apoel Nicosia at TNS and Red Star Belgrade at Valletta.
All of those teams should win – pays 7-1 at Ladbrokes – but the chances are one will let us down.
Anyway I’ve decided top put up a Top Treble and it’s Legia, BATE and Israelis Hapoel Beer Sheva at home to Sheriff.
