SO that's the Euros over for another four years – and what a damp squib of an ending that was.

Portugal will seem undeserved winners to many but the bottom line is no one could beat them and even after Cristiano Ronaldo limped off in the first half they did a number on France.

My Super Single was France to win in 90 minutes and I had the hosts on the anteposts but I congratulate Portugal who got the job done although it wasn't pleasant to watch.

Also well done to Jordan and Greg Browning whose naps on bookings came in.

Lillestrom beat my Daily Double as they surprisingly lost to a late Stabaek goal while Elfsborg won at Helsingborgs.

There's not much on Monday ahead of a busy week of European football but one game to consider is Malmo v Orebro and Jordan's put up a tip on a game that looks likely to go over 2.5 goals.

For anyone following the Icelandic Urvalsdeild, I’d written a couple of weeks ago about a ‘surprise package’ side and tonight sees them back in action and odds against…

    STJARNAN VS. FJÖLNIR:

Fjolnir have got off to a flyer – 9 matches played, 19 points and the best g/d in the top flight sees them sitting a pretty lofty 2nd place behind leaders FH.

In what has been a tight and relatively low scoring start to the league in general, Fjolnir have been fairly prolific scoring: 5-3-2-2-5-0-0-2-2 team goals.

Stjarnan starting the season with a bang: 3 wins…then 3 draws…then 3 losses saw the early form go down the swanny.

Undoubtably, Stjarnan are a decent side but they can’t keep their legs shut at the minute having conceded: 4-0-2-2-3-2-1-1 goals in their most recent matches.

Bookies certainly fancy Stjarnan but I’m not so sure it’ll be one way traffic and fancy Fjolnir may well play a part in this one!

    Selections to consider:

    OVER 1.5 FJOLNIR GOALS…13/8
    (3 POINTS)

    BTTS 1ST HALF…3/1
    (1 Point)

    Good luck ?

Fully agree mate and just about to look at corners market too so could be a collection of bets on this game for me

Morning all – totally agree with Mr F, what a lame ending to Euro 2016 – Portugal shouldn’t have got through the group stage really with no wins, but congratulations for taking advantage of the new format and ending up as winners. Anyway, with that out the way now club leagues can be given more concentration. This morning I’ll pay a visit down under then Korea seeing as I’m in the area…

09:30am – Australia NPL Youth League

Bulleen Lions Youth v Green Gully Youth

Played each other in the reverse fixture back in April with a 4-2 win to Bulleen Lions. 3 from Bulleen’s last 4 have had 3/6 and 6 goals scored. Green Gully have seen a minimum of 3 goals scored in their last 8 matches. Overs seems the logical choice in this one.

    11:00am – South Korea WK-League

    Seoul Women v Icheon Women

4 from the last 5 meetings between these two have had at least 3 goals notched, but generally more than that. Seoul are more often than not involved in high scoring games and do score/concede a lot with 10 from their last 11 games seeing 3 goals, but usually more, scored. Icheon have seen the same outcome in 8 of their last 9 matches. Stats all point to overs in this one too…

    Over 2.5 goals double @ 4/5

    • waddo 8 years ago

*Lose, Bulleen Youth game came in no bother but there was a distinct lack of goals in Korea. ?

I think its fair to say that with Portugal winning Euro 16 it opitimises how poor it actually was.
Portugal the team who finshed third with less points than England.
Portugal the team who couldn’t beat Iceland, just like England.
Portugal the team whos only win in 90mins was againt Wales, just like England.
I think its fair to say that as teams go Portugal were one of the poorest teams in the competition.
Massive blow to football when Portugal who possess the great Ronaldo, Sanchez who for me was there stand out player and the decent Nani play negative football. I cant recall a game where as a team they expressed themselves.
Theres a Euro u19 tournament for anyone with withdrawals from the footie.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

craigboy, Portugal weren’t great to watch but weren’t one of the poorest teams there.
You can twist stats any way you want but they were the team no one beat.
Unlike England they didn’t lose to Iceland. If they had they would have been out.

    • craigyboy 8 years ago

Maybe its because we expect an attacking side from Portugal – I don’t know.
I haven’t got an issue with teams defending my issue is that they very rarely looked to win matches. They have had a lot of luck along the way and 99/100 a team like that gets found out at some point in a knockout tournament.
Austria, Russia, Albania, Turkey, Ukraine and Sweden were certainly disappointments of the tournament but Portugal weren’t far off. Even teams who weren’t given a hope such as Romania, Northern Ireland, Iceland, Ireland and Wales had moments of excitement.
I think when you look back at the tournament and review game plans and how to play I feel really sorry for Italy. They had a defensive base but it was defensive for a purpose and they were lethal against Belgium and Spain on the counter attack.
Football is all about opinions but I recall the great Spanish side a few years ago. Everybody tried to emulate them, get the ball down, keep possession and play football. I just hope people don’t look at Portugal and say right lets keep it tight, get to extra time and anything can happen.
The World Cup is always more exciting purely because of the different styles of play from around the world but this Euro’s has probably the most frustrating as a tournament that I’ve ever seen. I’ll always excuse a poor final because neither team wants to lose.

First day of the Russian National League and it sees Dinamo Moscow take on FK Tyumen and Tosno facing Khimki. With only friendly form to go on, it’s a case of going in somewhat blind to an extent. But I like the home win double.

Early tip for tomorrow where I see good value. Celtic vs red imps CL qualifier. Celtic -2 Asian handicap at 1.85.

    Fjolnir DRAW NO BET 3/1

Just coming up to KO and was going to leave this slone but worth a point…

    THROTTUR v FYLKIR

Bottom two facing each other here and it could be a 0-0 or a 4-4…neither team can defend/score with any confidence.

I’ll take a speculative punt on Over 4.5 goals at 3/1 based on the fact that weaker Icelandic sides tend to go for it when facing one another

Has anyone thought of starting up a ante post thread and pick out some gems for the forthcoming season.. People tend to have a good feeling as to how their team will perform so let’s share the knowledge and find the next leicester

Btts 1st half lost despite Fjolnir having most of the play and pressing well either side of Stjarnan’s goal.
