JOHNB landed a 3-1 winner with his first tip on Friday but the other two couldn’t follow suit so it was a 2pt loss for the day.

Our man is now 11.5pts down for January and a super Saturday would go down a treat.

He says: “All three of Saturday’s selections could have been a double stake NAP/NB – really confident on all three but who knows.”

Johnb’s Saturday Tips

Sandown 12:45
Lifeboat Mona 9-4 bet365

3:35
John Reel 6-1 NAP/NB bet365(double stake)

Wincanton 2:05
Some Buckle 5-1 bet365

Also 3 x 0.5pt doubles & 1 x 0.5pt treble

John Reel (NAP/NB)

I think I must be seeing things because it looks like 6-1 is available on this horse, I was thinking maybe 9-4 favourite would have been a good price, John Reel hasn’t been seen over hurdles for 1129 days although he has been running on the flat,
He is rated 97 on the flat so a hurdles rating of 122 just doesn’t work out. When you look back at the last time he ran over hurdles he was rated 125 and 80 on the flat so he really is well treated here. Sandown is a testing course with the last six furlongs all uphill which will suit John Reel.

Lifeboat Mona

This horse has a big future and looks like she will be a better chaser than hurdler although her hurdling form is pretty good. She is improving with every run and we have not seen her anywhere near her best yet, it is a good race but expecting Lifeboat Mona to have too much class.

Some Buckle

I keep expecting Some Buckle to go on a string of wins but he keeps finding ways not to win mostly by jumping errors but I know he can jump better and run better than he has. He is close to his last winning mark and hopefully this time everything clicks because he has a win coming and I think it’s now.

Antepost Tips

  • 1000 Guineas 2017 – PROMISE TO BE TRUE 20-1 Betfred (now 25-1)
  • 2000 Guineas 2017 – CHURCHILL 20-1 bet365 (now 6-4)
  • 2017 Derby – CHURCHILL 33-1 Racebets (now 7-1)
  • 2000 Guineas 2017 – BLUE POINT 14-1 racebets (now 33-1)

Johnb says: “I have already advised Churchill for next year’s 2000 Guineas & Derby – he has been really impressive this season and my view is he will get even better next year.

“Blue Point on the other hand is harder to call for how he will progress next year. If he trains on then in my view it’s a straight fight between Blue Point & Churchill but in the Derby Churchill is the only horse for me – he gives me the same excitement as Golden Horn did.

“But to answer my question earlier the most impressive horse I have seen this year is BLUE POINT with Churchill and Annie Power a close second and third.”

Is that the same John reel that runs in crap handicaps at Wolverhampton etc ???.

There was a John reel who used to be in Skelton’s yard a few years ago, is this one of those dual named horses like ertijal yesterday ?

    Garde le victoire 13-50 sandown.
won a hurdle at sandown last january off top weight beating jollyallan and Bristol de mai.
Tomorrow is a chase but there is nothing of their class in opposition though he has a lot of weight to carry
Just taken 2-1 and hoping his class carries him to victory.

Johnb Nice winner today again ,I promise this is the last time I ask I’m sure I am not the only one wondering why are you advising Doubles and Trebles ,when they just eat away at profit
.If you can’t justify ,just say so ,or ignore as usual
    Thanks GL

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 6 months ago

I can’t speak for John but the fact he’s had two trebles up at least says it all.
If you only want to do singles just do singles – others like doubles and trebles for smaller stakes.

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 6 months ago

Stats say it pays to do doubles and trebles, I don’t advise three horses a lot but the profits I have when just advising three are huge,
I can’t be on here 24/7 reading everyone’s comments every day, I have never ignored anyone’s comments, if I don’t reply it means I haven’t seen it

    • Profile photo of philip66
      philip66 6 months ago

John doesn’t advise them too much but he had a 94-1 treble not so long ago. I personally have 50% of my entire stake on the singles, 30 % on the doubles 10% the trebles 10% an each way accumulator. Think you’ve got to have more than just singles but each to their own. It’s everybody’s choice how to stake and in what bet.

    Evening all,

I’m glad that Friday is behind us to be honest! Two Swallows did not run badly (2nd) to kick of my trio of bets, but that was followed my Hear No Evil failing to live up to his hype and disappointing majorly and then to top it all Zanjabeel refused to race at Dundalk! The least said about yesterday the better. Four selections for me tomorrow and another increased stake bet.

    12.45 Sandown – Lifeboat Mona 9/4

It is very hard to get away from the outstanding claims of Lifeboat Mona tomorrow. Paul Nichols’ inmate destroyed the field in a competitive handicap at Ascot last time out and went straight into my notebook. She jumped well and quickened smartly from 2 out. Tomorrow she tackles a slightly shorter distance but she looks made for the Sandown hill. If she reproduces a similar level of form to last time on ground that will suit she could put all opposition to the sword on the home straight. She has shown decent level of form throughout her career and is already a listed winner, but this season looks set to be her arrival on the big stage. While Briery Queen rates as the biggest danger she has to give the selection 4lbs. With all my boxes ticked I simply have increase my stake (15pnts) – but as always nothing is assured.

    2.10 Newcastle – Deepsand 3/1

I put this horse up last time when he was a non runner and I’m happy to go with him again tomorrow. Island confusion is a horse that has sat in my tracker for years, he used to be with Lucinda Russell himself but after such a long layoff and back over hurdles I simply can’t take the 11/8 on offer this evening I would much rather be with Deepsand at the prices. This horse showed an improvement on his more recent form on stable debut last time at Uttoxeter in a very similar race, he looked likely to win that day only to be caught late on. While he has been raised 5lbs for that effort this once 133 rated hurdler can get his career back on track tomorrow. Alex Thorne continues in the saddle claiming a rather large 10lbs meaning the selection will be getting 9lbs from Island confusion as well. He is not a horse to stake your life on so I will be playing small and hoping for a small but sweet return. (1.5pnts)

    2.55 Lingfield – Coral Sea 11/4

Tomorrow can finally be the day for Coral Sea, a horse whom has dogged me for a while now. Her run of placed efforts in the summer cost me a few quid but watching them back again she does seem to have excuses in all his runs. Last time out on allweather debut she recorded a blistering speed figure over 5F (staying on all the time), and the step up to 6F tomorrow could be the making of her. She has tried this distance once before at Yarmouth where she didn’t seem to stay but I think that was purely down to the Good-Soft going. I find it interesting that Charles Hills has not tried her in handicap yet off a mark of 72 and he even sent her to France for a decent €27’000 maiden- she is clearly well thought of. Luke Morris takes over tomorrow and hopefully he can drive Coral Sea over the winning line tomorrow! (1.5pnts)

    3.20 Newcastle – Lethegoodtimesroll 9/4

Regular readers will know my rule of never backing a horse with a penalty in a bumper, well I’m happy to take on Illwalktheline tomorrow at Newcastle (even though Ryan Day takes off 5lbs). The horse who looks more than capable of beating him is Lethegoodtimesroll who was an impressive winner of a point to point in 2015. Unfortunately on debut for connections she hung herself out of contention at Right handed Carlisle when sent off odds on fav. That run was back in March last year and I’m sure Brian Ellison has been working hard to ensure the same doesn’t happen tomorrow (she is going left handed as well which should help massively). Ellison is going well in bumpers this year and his combination with Kaine Wood has been a good one- he is great value for his 7lb claim in this sphere and this only enhances the selections chances. I am hopeful of a big run tomorrow from Lethegoodtimesroll! (1.5pnts)

Many thanks and GL to all

Lifeboat Mona is currently 11/4 with BF and T yet generally 2/1 and 15/8 elsewhere which seems rather strange. I’m definitely in at the former with Harry and JB tipping it up.

Taghrooda, Golden Horn, Thistlecrack, Churchill are four horses that I spotted early, Churchill still has to live up to his name this year in the Classics but the rest went on to win their big race targets, Thistlecrack goes for another in the Gold Cup

Mentioned these four because I think I have seen another horse that could go on to be as successful as the horses I have mentioned,
Just checking what odds are available for certain races

These bookies really are asking for trouble, I have said many a time that the majority of bookies don’t have people capable enough to price up, it’s the same with the in running odds, you need to know horses, the quirks each one has, be able to tell just what a horse actually has left,

At the third last Briery Queen was odds on & Lifeboat Mona was 4/1
There was no way Lifeboat Mona was going to lose that race and this was one of the easier ones to spot

Hamish – not done it for johnbs stats but I did for another regular guy on here for November and December where I worked out the profit of doing just their nap, their nap and nb, and their nap nb and the double. The double only landed a handful of times but doing all three bets worked out the most profitable.

Like to mention stand up and fight in the grade one in Ireland tomo I expect quite big things from this one in the future shame there’s not 8 runners or I’d be on ew!
Deathbduty wins easily though at the current levels

    Evening all,

On what was frankly a very tough day of results I managed to come up with a very healthy profit thanks to Lifeboat Mona landing my 15pnt bet, with the drift back to 11/4 making it ever so sweeter. Unfortunately my 3 other smaller stake bets disappointed on a day when many good things went down. I’ve looked out just one small each way selection for tomorrow.

    2.20 Naas – Killer Crow 6/1 EW

Killer Crow has a chance to make up for his recent efforts in this slightly easier contest tomorrow. This once really well thought after individual used to be with Mullins before moving to Gordon Elliot a few years ago and as been tried in some really good chase handicaps. He is a supreme jumper and was even sent off 12/1 for last seasons Topham Chase. He’s been on the go this season since July and has mostly disappointed but he was sent off 7/1 JFav for the Kerry National back in September when he unseated early on. As a result his mark has slipped down to 127 and tomorrow offers a chance for him to take advantage. He drops back to 2miles tomorrow which should not be an issue and the superb Lisa O’Neill (claiming 7lb) takes over in the saddle. Most importantly he has the application of blinkers first time and I really like following horses with first time blinkers as they can bring out further improvement in horses whom have been regressive. The blinkers might just be what Killer Crow needs to keep his mind on the job throughout his races and at 6/1 he warrants an each way play in a race full of rather disappointing horses (0.75ew).

Many Thanks and GL to all.

I saw it – not a great comment to be honest.
Stats are regularly posted if you want to look back.
Sometimes it’s better to look forward.

If you’re talking about Johnb he’s paid to put up tips – he’s not required to do anything else so quit moaning.

Johnb does more than enough – he does much more than we ask him to do.
Don’t moan at home – give him credit or leave him alone.

Ok mr f. I get that. And fair play that u do. All im saying is not all is slating him! Moving on now

It was Hamish my comment referred to. I didn’t like the tone of his comments – that was all and I never used the word “slating”.
People need to understand what Johnb brings to the table. He puts up tips every day and that can’t be easy.
But his knowledge of sport and horses and his antepost tips are what impress me most. I also like his confidence in his own selections.
I think we’re lucky to have him.
