JAN 31: SATURDAY SUPER SINGLE SHORTLIST

genericfootball

FIVE out of 10 teams on last week’s shortlist won – and luckily I went with one of them as Hibs won 2-0 at Queen of the South.

It was a good weekend for the bookies in general with so many FA Cup shocks but it’s back to the bread and butter of league football as well as the Scottish League Cup semi-finals.

My Super Single shortlist is put together looking only at form and stats – so anyone who has team news that support or go against a pick should post it here. I’ll hunt out as much team news as possible on Friday before making my pick – probably from this list.

Sides looking good for my Top Treble include Man Utd, Ipswich, Bradford, Inverness, Falkirk, Hibs and Arbroath.

Super Single shortlist

C PALACE v Everton

Sunderland v BURNLEY

Brentford v MIDDLESBROUGH

Cardiff v DERBY

Charlton v ROTHERHAM

CREWE dnb v MK Dons

Sheffield Utd v SWINDON

LUTON v Cambridge

Dundee Utd v ABERDEEN

FALKIRK -1 v Dumbarton

top tip terry, QPR awful away as we know but I wonder how Bojan’s injury will hit Stoke.

      • nexus 2 years ago

Stoke have Bojan injured for 8 months but Diouf is on his way back from the African nations.

I backed Palace a couple of days ago. Everton are woeful away and I can’t see them getting and points against a resurgent Palace.

  4. top tip terry 2 years ago

Oh ah,that’s an interesting thought..Good point ,i will have to think about that..i prob will still go with them tho as qpf are terrible away from home..once they concede all there heads go.tbh i might even push my luck and go for a -1.haha

  5. Ian 2 years ago

Fancy Swindon the most out of the shortlist. Also think Crewe is good value. Mk Dons not in great form.

  6. frenaldo 2 years ago

palace to score 2 or more goals
was 15/8 now in to 7/4 last i checked
palace scoring goals and everton defence pretty bad this year

Nice to see mr f I know falkirk will make the super single proper soon

Not quite evens but IPSWICH 3/4 at home to Wigan is a must. The Wigan players are too busy trying to leave the club than trying to save it.

Millwall DNB should be considered and I’m a Forest fan. Not the greatest record against Millwall and Hollaway managed teams in fairness. 1st half performance at Fulham was so error ridden it was untrue. Lacking an on pitch leader at the minute and even though they showed a spirited fight back second half, Fulham sat back as naturally happens when you are 3-0 / 3-1 up. Just my thoughts as the prices don’t seem to be a true reflection on current form. Thoughts Mr F?

As a sheffield united fan I wouldn’t advise backing against the blades. Yes we did give everything last night and those players will need time to recover. But we have 3 new signings available and possibly more by Saturday, we have a big squad now so I don’t see it as a problem. UTB

Brentford have just beaten Brighton and Norwich away.
Looks a draw for me this game.

  12. Blueboy 2 years ago

Cardiff have no chance of beating derby Saturday inconsistent players and playing a flat formation against a high tempo derby team who are better away from home

    Eaaaaazzyyy money

As an Everton fan I am hoping McCarthy will be back I think we miss him more than most people recognise, Mirallas (if he was ever injured) and Besic are said to be fit but I wouldn’t bet on the game either way as I never bet on my own team. Also they have been in Qatar at a training camp so I’m hoping this will revitalise their season. If I was a neutral I would avoid it because Everton still have a good group of players that just need to find confidence.

Oh and Alan we have been pretty woeful at home this season as well, just listen to the crowd on match days its painful.

Not on your shortlist but I think Man C draw no bet or double chance could be a good bet.
Main reason for this is the amount chelsea have played, they have had 2 very tough games with liverpool and as we know the last one went to extra time, thats even more play time.
The bradford game also proved to be a tough game and in the end top players were put on the pitch.
Not sure how right this is but fantasy football also says Ivanovic and Fabregas are doubtful.

Citys last outing was a disappointing one against Middlesborough but will of had a full week to forget about that and get them selves ready for what could be their most important game of the season!

I think its always hard to say chelsea will loose but really do think the bookies have got it wrong with Bet365 having City at 14/5 to take the win and 13/8 DNB.

Quite fancying man city and west ham for a double on Saturday and both singles also,,, Chelsea and Liverpool was end to end for 2 hours surely it has a chance…

  17. Stephen Head 2 years ago

Swindon best side to come to my team Chesterfield by far.
Bradford are good in spells like at Chelsea, short sharp bursts
from them once they smell blood, but mediocre most of the time.
    Honest opinion.

    Carlisle United v Mansfield.

    Carlisle win 13/10 bet365.

Carlisle have being up and down lately.

Keith Curle has signed a couple of championship players on loan and they will go straight into the squad.

Carlisle is a tough place to get a result. This is a relegation 6 pointer and i can see the Cumbrians coming out with the win against a below par Mansfield.

cant see past swindon sorry thegoodwillout

The only one staring out at me is Palace .I think Leicester 10/1 to beat Man.U. is massive . Leicester on the DC market for me they done it last week at Spurs.Wont be sticking Man.U. in any trebs cant be trusted better to stick Bayern in a treb best team in Europe at the moment.

Russell is sidelined for Derby for the next 4-6 weeks along with Eustace. Mascarell seems to of upped his game recently – maybe because he knows his position is likely to come under threat as and when Thorne comes back into the reckoning – maybe 1-2 weeks ago, but he could find his way onto the bench sooner.

McClaren has a bit of a selection/formation dilemma. As we tend to be an attacking 4-3-3 with martin as the target man ) – martin has been shy of goals of late. Don’t think he’s scored for maybe 4 games. Darren Bent has been worth his weight since his arrival. He played a tiny part in the forest loss, came on 2nd half and broke the deadlock in the FA cup tie, and then bagged a brace against Blackburn. 3 goals in just over 145 mins of play.
With Russell out, theres talk of us bringing in a wide player before the transfer window shuts. Personally, I’d opt for an adapted 4-3-3 with Bent playing not so wide. His last two goals were poachers goals that you’d expect someone smaller and nimbler to net. He’s a big lad and finally we have some physicality in and around the box.

With Cardiff playing rather badly and 4 of the other top 6 sides playing eachother, this is one of those games that we really need to be winning to stay in the running. Cardiff historically is a bad place for Derby to get anything from, but I don’t think Cardiff have ever been this poor and on such a bad run of form, so its a great opportunity to take all 3 points.

Leagues are won when you compete and outplay your league front-runners, but dropping points against lower league opposition will cost you places in the run-in to the season. We’re still not great at the back, but this season, we seem to be racking up clean sheets at a lot higher frequency than previous seasons.

  24. top tip terry 2 years ago

Think im the only one that think everton has turned a corner..i think palace will get a draw at best.:-D

  25. top tip terry 2 years ago

However i wouldnt back everton at 6/4..i would rather do the Bts at 5/6..i can see a 2-2draw at14s

  26. Duncan Poundcake 2 years ago

Falkirk are on the naughty step so either going for, Hull City v Newcastle United draw @ 11/5 or West Bromwich Albion v Tottenham Hotspur draw @ 9/4
or maybe 2 singles and a double GL All

  27. Muzzer 2 years ago

Not on your list for obvious reasons Mr F but I really do fancy Man City to win at Chelsea tomorrow. LFC gave Chelsea a game in midweek and I think that will have an impact on tomorrow’s top of the table clash. As I keep saying, I’m a Crewe fan so out of your list I really do like your Crewe DNB but I think we will win but BTTS also. Good luck all.

  28. Flickhead 2 years ago

Mr F,Dover might be worth a look at Lincoln tomorrow.Lincoln had two sent off in the week and theyve also got a few injuries.Theyve shipped some goals in their last two games, and Dover are on fire, plus Dover have done the business for the SS not so long back.

  29. Daveyboy 2 years ago

defo leaving stoke tomorrow.been slipping up against the lesser teams at home this season.3 of their 4 home losses were against burnley/Leicester/villa the other being Chelsea.can see QPR picking up first away point
