THE only online bookie that lists SPFL first-scorer prices for every game are McBookie. It’s a fantastic service but of course there is a limited card this weekend.
McBookie‘s Damian Walker gives his first-scorer tips every weekend and challenges punters to pick their own.
There were two winners last week – sandys12 with Elgin’s Craig Gunn and Morrison67 with Aberdeen’s Adam Rooney at 19-5. After the toss of a coin Morrison67 is the winner. Email [email protected] with your McBookie username to claim your prize.
Leave your tip as a comment and quote player’s club and first-scorer price with McBookie – Scottish games only – for a chance to win £10 this weekend. Here is Damian with this week’s selections.
He says: “Nothing doing last weekend on the winner front sadly but I have got one thing right recently.
“In the December 19 column I wrote: ‘Annan are McBookie’s 2-1 favourites for the title but I think the wheels might be about to come off’ and there have been signs their current form might not be as good as it first looks.
“Since then the Galabankies have suffered four straight league defeats, dropped from top to fourth place in the table and are a massive eight points adrift.
“Sandwiched in the middle of this awful run is their amazing 4-1 Scottish Cup win over Hamilton which still leaves me shaking my head and as well as plenty of punters who had their coupons ruined that weekend.
“Anyway, with the distraction of a huge fifth-round cup tie next weekend at home to Morton and some poor league form I am going take Annan on again.
“Their awful recent league form is in sharp contrast to that of leaders Elgin who have won their last four matches and gone five points clear.
“The Black And Whites’ title credentials now face some serious tests with Annan this weekend, followed by Queen’s Park and then Clyde.
“If they can come through this three-match run with their lead still a healthy one you’d have to think the title is theirs to lose. They are currently 5-2.
“Elgin’s success has been built around a nucleus of just 15 regular outfield players and the goals of Craig Gunn who has 16 league goals from just 19 games.
“His fitness and form is probably crucial to Elgin’s title hopes and he is 4-1 with McBookie to score the first goal.
“I had a crack last weekend at taking on 4-7 favourites Raith at home to 9-2 outsiders Dumbarton and it just failed to come off for the Sons who earned a 0-0 draw.
“As has been mentioned before Raith are a team who have lost a couple of important players and one I will continue to be against. On Saturday they host Queen of the South and McBookie have the home side as slight favourites.
“The pair both have 28 points but while Raith are without a win in four league games the Doonhamers have won their last two Championship games.
“Queens have had a habit of not sharing out their goals. It was the same last season with three players scoring the lions’ share of their Championship goals and this campaign Derek Lyle and Iain Russell have netted 14 of their 20 league goals.
“Russell has scored in four of his last five Championship games and 6-1 at McBookie to make it five in six with the game’s first goal.
“The final selection this weekend is in the Premiership and probably the first time I have selected a Dundee Utd first scorer this season. Even Arabs fans were rubbing their eyes after their 5-1 victory over Killie last weekend.
“Hopefully for them this is the start of a revival and now might the time to go with them, especially after Saturday’s opponents Partick Thistle lost their last home game 4-2 to Dundee.
“Dundee Utd midfielder Blair Spittal is an excellent dead-ball striker and has four goals from his last four games including two last weekend. Spittal is 10-1 with McBookie to continue United’s mini-revival with the opening goal.”
