I WAS so close to taking Matt Smith to score for Bristol City as the Super Single – and I now regret leaving him out.
Instead I took a big chance on City and both to score against Gillingham and was a home goal shy. Stats suggested a high scorer but that’s cup football – especially over two legs.
I called the Spanish games correctly by Panathinaikos beat for a Daily Double when they lost at home to Xanthi in the Greek Cup after being reduced to 10 men.
There are some decent games to look at on Friday with the Championship clash between Bournemouth and Watford screaming goals.
Watford’s last five have totalled 27 goals and they hit seven in the second half against Blackpool last week.
Leaders Bournemouth have averaged two a game at home and while a winner is tough to pick I like over 2.5 goals at 8-11 with boylesports.
In the Scottish Premiership Partick Thistle and St Mirren lock horns at Firhill and if forced to pick a winner I’d go with the Jags at 20-21 with McBookie and BetVictor but Saints have collected 13 of their 15 points away and a draw is possible.
An improvement in form has seen caretaker boss Gary Teale handed the reins until the end of the season but Saints will again be a bit short up front with Yoann Arquin banned and that could be key.
Veteran Steven Thompson is fit again but there are doubts about whether he’ll up to speed right away.
Thistle have hit seven goals in their last two home games and striker Kris Doolan, who netted four against Hamilton last time out at Firhill, is 11-2 with most firms to hit the opener.
The Bundesliga returns from cold storage with Wolfsburg v Bayern Munich – second v first – and I’ll post separate tips on that one. In France it’s PSG v Rennes and Rayo face Deportivo in La Liga among other top-flight clashes.
There are the usual array of lower-league games from France and Holland and while Friday’s the day I have least time to do research here are my top tips.
Heerenveen are my Bank Builder and while Dordrecht won their first game of the season last week against Excelsior I can’t see them living with an on-form Heerenveen. Braga have been poor away but strong at home and should see off Moreirense. Complete the treble with over 2.5 goals at Bournemouth.
For the Super Single I’m keeping it simple. PSG have been inconsistent of late but a Rennes, with no wins in six, gives them a good chance of a decent win at home and up from Zlatan Ibrahimovic will play with Edison Cavani. In my Wolfsburg-Bayern preview I’d one with the unbeaten champions and while Wolfsburg have been great at home I’m on the away.
Big teams have let me down recently but PSG and Bayern should do the business and added to Braga and Heeerenveen that makes a 4-1 with firms such as McBookie, BetVictor and Ladbrokes fourfold and I’m having 1pt on that.
