TUESDAY was a disappointing night mainly due to a lack of goals.

I was a Napoli strike short on the Top Treble while neither of my goals trebles were close and Peterborough beat the Super Single with a shock defeat at Oldham.

Won't be doing too much tonight although there are some big games such as Liverpool v Southampton in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final. Liverpool start 1-0 down and in poor form but can't be written off as they can be a different animal in big games at Anfield.

This could be settled by who scores first. If Southampton get it against a defence that conceded three at home to Swansea at the weekend they could be on the way to Wembley.

Klopp's side – albeit weakened – netted one goal in 180 minutes against Plymouth in the FA Cup then crashed 3-2 to the Swans. They're badly missing Sadio Mane and Saints will be fancied by some to qualify at 1-1 with bet365.

I've seen Adam Lallana to score against his former team and that could be a shout at 11-4 with William Hill.

In the Championship Leeds should beat Nottingham Forest at home and in Scotland it's Celtic v St Johnstone in the Premiership and Hearts v Raith in a Scottish Cup replay. I've posted a separate preview on the Scots games – Celtic and Hearts should win but are pretty short.

Real Madrid face a Spanish Cup exit after losing 2-1 at home to Celta Vigo in the first leg. They are still without Pepe, Dani Carvajal, Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Luka Modric and have doubts over Cristiano Ronaldo and James.

It looks a tough task to turn this round and Celta rested players for their weekend defeat at Sociedad to fully focus on going through.

Jordan's already posted tips on this game and I like Celta to qualify at 21-20 with Ladbrokes -and they are as big as 17-4 with bet365 to win. If the Real team is as weakened as expected I may put up Celta to qualify as a Super Single.

There should be also goals and over 2.5 is almost a given but pays just 1-2 with the likes of Betfred.

The other ties sees Atletico travel to Eibar with a 3-0 lead so this one is done and dusted.

Other games include Juventus v Milan in the Italian Cup and Monaco v Nancy in the French Cup.

For now I'm going solely with a Top Treble – over 2.5 goals in the Dutch Cup quarter-final between AZ and Heerenveen. This has been tipped on the site by several people and is backed up by stats.

Add Leeds, who have the second best home record in the Championship, to bounce back from Sunday's loss at Barnsley. Key defender Pontus Jansson is back from a ban and should help shut up shop. Jordan's tipped Chris Wood to score and I wouldn't argue against him.

Complete the treble with Monaco to beat Nancy in the French League Cup semi-finals and set up a glamour final with PSG. Monaco have been brilliant form in their run to the top of the table while Nancy have won once away in the league – although did draw 0-0 at Monaco back in November. It's a home win unless they rest players which is unlikely with a final at stake.

I'm swerving the AFCON games tonight although I notice a draw between Egypt and Ghana pays just evens at McBookie and others. Ghana have qualified and a draw puts Egypt through in second. Doesn't seem to matter too much who finished first and second and both sides are putting out weakened teams with unders looking a cert.

There isn’t much time – still in the office anyway.

  2. Jordan 7 years ago

Cheers Mr F. Just re-posting here.

Fairly straightforward one on Wednesday. In the first leg I thought Celta Vigo were good value for their goal time, as was Aspas to score, and both bets would have landed from one strike.

“The reverse leg should be a cracker with Celta resting some of their big guns in their 1-0 loss at Sociedad on Sunday. Celta lead 2-1 so Madrid are obviously going to go all out. Sitting back trying to hold a 2-1 lead against Madrid is a recipe for disaster though and I think the home side will be right up for this one.

“I’m not sure on the away-goal rule but if Vigo can grab another goal the pressure will be on for Ronaldo and Co and I think they will. Madrid have conceded in 10 of their last 11 competitive games away from home and their last seven at the Balaidos with six of those seeing BTTS & Over 2.5. Expect the same again.”

Celta Vigo v Real Madrid BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals (8.15pm)

    (4-5, bet365, Skybet, Coral) – 2.5pts

Chris Wood also has to be in with a shout of netting for Leeds. The Kiwi has 5 in his last 3 (5 in 4 in at home) and although Forest got a victory on the weekend it’s probably not much of a confidence booster considering it was against Bristol City.

    Chris Wood (Leeds) to score

    (11-9, 888sport) – 2pts

    Nigerian Premier League 15:00

Cant say I’ve betted on Nigerian football before but it is a known fact that some of the referees there are bribed to favour the home side with corruption generally being rife. Its amazing how anything up to twelve teams can go unbeaten at home all season but then rarely win on the road. Anyway, on Sunday all ten matches played resulted in ten home wins! Its probably unlikely to happen again so quickly but I’m willing to play a small stake 10-fold home win acca at 34/1 with Bet365 for the same same outcome. Good luck if you choose to follow.

    • bullseye 7 years ago

      Correction, its actually a 9-fold

    • maccathered 7 years ago

The homesides almost always win in that league nothing new there.

    • bullseye 7 years ago

The point is there are money making opportunities to be found from all of these home wins despite the obvious corruption that goes on behind the scenes. You could quite easily make a treble from three short priced favorites at evens or above and it would more than likely land. Home losses are rare but draws do occur more frequently. The bribes and intimidation from week to week probably reflect in the results but after Sunday’s 10 home wins, I wouldn’t rule it out happening successively and I’m happy to lob a couple of quid on it.

    • gg1a 7 years ago

this is interesting, but today 6 away teams won last week presumably at home and there were playing lower placed teams so double chance may be better bet.

but next week 29th all those top teams play at home so very good chance of accums winning
here is tip bets for predictions for next week

29 Jan 5 Wikki Tourist Ifeanyi Ubah United 5 on Wikki Tourist
29 Jan 5 Gombe United Sunshine Stars
29 Jan 5 Enugu Rangers Niger Tornadoes 9 on Enugu Rangers

this bet won… double chance just over evens for 9 teams
i done this out of curiousity and doubled my money
no away team won, again !!
next week sees all the top teams at home
so as bullseye stated could be good for a smaller accum

    • bullseye 7 years ago

Nice one gg1a, I think double chance is definitely the way to go with this league. No doubt corruption played its part again today lol – 5 home wins & 5 draws four being goalless…

Morning guys, it is your main man Max here, It as been a while since I posted a tip on the football thread and I know my followers appreciate that, as not every day should be a betting day, especially since I have been posting My Nap’s and “unloved dog” on the other sports thread, were the results have been phenomenal with the dog always being above evens :-)

I will be at the game tonight and to be fair we have been in a bit of a rut. This year we have only beaten Plymouth and while WE wont win the league, I think WE will get to Wembley and that is why I am tipping us to qualify at 10/11. I am taking a punt on Lallana to score tonight at 11/4.

Liverpool to Qualify 10/11 (NAP 20PTS)
    Lallana to score 11/4 (4PTS)

    Enjoy the game. YNWA

    Good Morning lads
    Dsk shivajians vs mohun bagan
Bet to Consider – over 2.5goals

    ****lost ******

    Napoli vs Fiorentina

Napoli are unbeaten in their last nine home fixtures. Napoli are the top scorers in Serie A with 47 goals and should possess too much firepower for Fiorentina in their Coppa Italia quarter-final. Maurizio Sarri’s side have won eight of their last nine games in all competitions and are just four points behind Serie A leaders Juventus. They are superior to the Viola, who have lost three of their last four domestic away games.

A hugely disappointing night with all three of my bets going down. It’s easy enough to pick out potential for goals but when they don’t see a goal before 60mins then your really struggling. Have no doubt that had there been a goal in the first half of the Napoli game we would have seen the overs bets flying in.

Going to try and play it fairly safe tonight, few bets I like the look of but want to wait for team news.

  8. philwindy 7 years ago

A game that looks promising for goals is the cup tie in Holland between AZ and Heereveen

AZ rarely fail to score at home and average 2 goals a game on their own patch.

Heerenveen are no mugs on the goal front either banging 3 past PSV at the weekend !!! They average 2.2 goals on their travels, not bad going at all. They have scored in all 10 away games.

The H2H are even more encouraging averaging 5 goals a game the last 4 meetings .

Down south over the next few weeks attending courses for work.
Just checked to see fixtures, Man City v Monaco, so easy to purchase tickets for! Logged on the site, half the stadium still empty. Got seats right on the half way line.
Other fixture is next week, Liverpool v Chelsea, if anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Would love to attend this one!
Manchester United play at home on the same night but went to United v Feyenoord earlier in the season when down at another course, so would like to tick Anfield off my list.

Yesterday I had mixed fortunes as with most punters….a Kortijk goal would have brought up all bets but it wasn’t to be:

    Genk v Kortrijk

I think the bookies have been very generous on BTTS here, whilst O2.5 looks good and has also been included in accas by others. O1.5 mgls is 2/9 and added to Hullshakers Fylde BTTS you have a nearly evens money single. Google translate has failed to reveal any team news to suggest otherwise, so I’m going with the stats on this one. Racing Genk scored in 91% of their home matches. Kortrijk conceded at least one goal in each of their last 9 matches, but have scored in 82% of their away matches – including 3 out of their last 4 aways, one of which was against league leaders Brugge. In Kortijks last game they scored 2 against 3rd place Zulte. Several bets to choose from and all have some value – I’m definitely taking BTTS and mulling the rest over:

    BTTS @ 4/5 * LOST *
    Kortrijk exact goals 1 @ 6/4 * LOST *
    O1.5 Genk tgls @ 3/5 * WON *
Genk to score in the FH is a good alternatice @ 4/6 * WON *
    Genk and Over 2.5 @ 13/10 * WON *
    Genk win BTTS @ 21/10 * LOST *
    Kortrijk exactly 1 SHGL @ 9/5 * LOST *

Tonight: going for a team goals double. Hearts have been struggling since the change of manager, but they need to win this one to set uo a home derby tie with Hibs in the next round. I think they’ll be fired up and going for it. Similarly, Real Madrid have to come out attacking to turn the tie around and I think they’ll grab a couple:

O1.5 team goals double pays 11/10:
    Hearts
    Real Madrid

    Small stakes on:
Aspas to score Celta to lose @ 6/1
    Real win BTTS @ 7/4

Some U20/23 games that look great for goals, team news prior to KO always useful in these ones so small stakes until that appears.

Dundee united U20’s play Motherwell at 2pm, at Tannadice. Both teams have been involved in some high scoring matches recerntly. DU’d last five homes reads 4-4-5-4-5 with ‘Well’s aways 0-4-2-0-3. Dundee United have scored at least 2 in each of those homes although the away side are the favourites for the match. Sportingbet have DU team goals but I don’t have an account….probably means it’ll win ha. BTTS and overs would be good but I can’t find it anywhere:

    O3.0, 3.5 pays 49/50 @ Bet365
Dundee United O1.5 tgls pays 7/4 @ Sportingbet

    O2.5 mgls treble pays 2/1:

    Hibernian U20 (1 pm)
    Dundee United U20 (2 pm)
    Man City U23 (7 pm)

If the Hibs game looks like losing I’ll probably take the last 2 as a double. If anyone has team news, that’d be good for deciding stakes. GL all.

Within the last few games Liverpool’s momentum definitely seems to have slowed. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a response from them tonight as they have to at least score to have any chance of progression but it also wouldn’t be out of the question for Southampton to score as well. Southampton seem to have picked it up in recent games and after Swansea bagged three at Anfield on Saturday I’m quite confident that The Saints, with the likes of Redmond, Rodriguez, Tadic etc, can net one or more. A scenario of one Saints goal with 4 corners (barring no cards) would see the NAP land with two goals making the bet more comfortable.

Club brugge and anderlect 1.5 team goal double is 0.9 at bet365
Club brugge at home are 9.2.0 scoring an impressive 43 and only conceded 15 29 of those have come at home this a top v bottom match with waasaland having the worst away record in the league Conceding 20 goals no wins away from home and only managing 3 draws out of ten this looks a solid bet and club Brugge rarely let me down.
Anderlect are another fav and they are a top v bottom showdown here. Playing the second worst home team in the league. Anderlect have scored 19 away from home in 11 that’s nearly 2 per game the last 8 head to heads have all seen over 2.5 goals. Anderlect have only failed to score 2 or more in the last ten games in there last 6 in all comps they have found the net more than once.

One winner one loser on the Night Owl front.

    @philwindy nice one mate

Gosport have been a little gem – that’s them lost 7-0 4-1 6-0 and 5-1 in their last 4 games!

They made me sweat a bit too – haha

  39. GregBrowning 7 years ago

    Afternoon gents

Like most, was done by a lack of goals at Napoli which was disappointing given Gosport was up after 17 mins

I’ve been harping on about Gosport for a few weeks now and again last night they didn’t disappoint – they were hammered 5-1 at home to East Thurrock – keep an eye for them

Looking to get back to winning ways tonight

    Celtic v St Johnstone

Not down south this week so going to support the famous Perth St Johnstone! Not sure why I’m even bothering as the view is rubbish, I don’t like the stewards and we always seem to lose a good few goals when I go to Celtic Park!

One thing that i can assure is we won’t keep a clean sheet! Celtic will be at full strength and we will be going there to make things difficult! I think they are a good price to score 3 – we arnt the quickest at the back and even more so now that Richie Foster is suspended! Sunday’s run out against Abion rovers should see Celtic back into the groove

One that may be worth a look this afternoon…

MANSFIELD TOWN RES. VS. YORK CITY RES. (14.00 KO):

York won the previous H2H 3- back in November and have had the better of recent results where Mansifield have struggled in nearly all their games.

Very few of either sides games have seen less than 3 match goals and there is a good chance both should get on the scoresheet with my thoughts being York to edge it.

An hour ago BTTS/York win was 5/1+…now that price has come right into 18/5 as I post so I’m obviously not the only person speculating that result although to be fair it doesn’t take much money to shift these markets.

    BTTS & YORK WIN…4/1 (now 18/5)
    ?

    ?

    • HullShaker 7 years ago

York look like they are going to get splattered…0-3 already ?

    • HullShaker 7 years ago

      4-2 final score…wish I’d gone for goals ?

  42. leroy 7 years ago

Got to be quick – yesterday was unfortunate with Alfreton and Brackley falling a goal short of providing a couple of winners. A small stakes even money fancy for tonight is below but I’m mainly looking ahead to the weekend games already.

    Celtic O1.5 TG
    Club Brugge O1.5 TG
    Leeds to Score

    Treble @ 1/1 (Various)

    Good Luck.

  43. HullShaker 7 years ago

    BATATAIS U20 VS. CORINTHIANS U20 (18.00 KO):

Closing stages of the Youth Tournament and Batatais can take a bow – they’ve performed well and have made it this far despite some close calls – 3 of their games went to penalties!

Corinthians on the other hand have eased past all opposition with secure wins scoring 3-2-3-2-5-3-4-6 goals in the process.

I’m taking them to get on the scoresheet a few times again tonight.

    3 selections to consider:

    OVER 1.5 FHGS…EVENS
    ??

    OVER 3.5 MGS…4/5
    ???

    CORINTHIANS -3 H/CAP…13/5
    ?

    Best of luck.

  44. liamw 7 years ago

    Cray Wanderers vs. Corinthian-Casuals

Cray have an incredible BTTS record with 9 out of their last 10 seeing this result. Corinthians aren’t far behind with 7/10. These stats are reflected in the odds, with BTTS prcied at 4/9. However, with these stats its worth having a look at the 1st half goal markets or adding the BTTS / O2.5 to an accumulator:

    Possible Bets:
    Over 2.5 mgls @ 1/2
    O1.5 SHGLs @ 8/13
    BTTS 1st half @ 10/4 (an alternative is exactly 2 fhgls @ 13/5 or o1.5 @ 13/10)
    BTTS Both Halves 7/1

    Double pays 9/10:
    O1.5 Celtic Team Goals

    Double

    Brugge O1.5TG
AZ vs Heerenveen O2.5MG + BTTS

    2.38 odds

    ————-

Brugge have scored 2+ goals in 8 of their last 10 home games in this league, they play for a 3 point gap ahead of Anderlecht and will not mess about in doing so, Beveren are horrific away and have not won in away in this league since near enough this time last year.

Az vs Heerenveen just screams goals and their previous matchups back this up heavily with games ending 2-2, 4-2, 3-1 and 5-2.
I cannot justify just settling for overs or btts seperately, I keep looking at the form these 2 teams are in and I can’t see it not being a goal fest.

  55. archie 7 years ago

Evening again on my usual aspas goals bet .
Also doing Leeds win 3 or 4 goals in match
    Celtic -1
    Utrech -1
    Juventus win over 1 goal
Over 25/1 . GL all be back later .

  56. afcmatt 7 years ago

I’ll be on a 2+ team goals double which pays 1.38/1

    Club Brugge to score 2+
Brugge have scored 2 or more goals in 9 of the 11 home games this season and the host a team who have the worst away record in the league. In their last 5 away games, they’ve conceded on average 2 goals per a game

    Leeds to score 2+
Similar story with Leeds game as well. Although Leeds aren’t a free scoring side, Nots Forest are a free conceding side. They’ve conceded 2 or more goals in 11 of their 15 away games this season. Their last away game finished 0-0 but previous to that they conceded 2 3 2 3 2.

    This pay 1.38 at bet365.

Small stakes bet in the Leeds game.
Chris Wood to score and Leeds to win 2-0. – 10/1 at bet365.

    AFCON, 19.00,
    Egypt v Ghana
Quite simply as a neutral, don’t watch this game. Both have been boring up until now. Ghana have won two games 1-0, whilst Egypt have drawn one game 0-0 and then won their latest game 1-0.
The critical things here is both teams go through with a draw. FIFA don’t like to admit of their corruption but this is one game that for me will end up as a draw. Now the draw is currently 19/20…that’s right odds on for a draw…absolutely unheard of. My advice is don’t back this. Whatever you place as your main stake, split it in half. You may need that other half in-play.
    Pre-match bet:
No first goalscorer – 3/1 , Paddy Power
It’s going to be a low scorer and my gut instinct would be 0-0, it’s just convenient for both teams. If however there is a goal this covers you in the event of an own goal and is always a better bet than backing the 0-0.
    In-play bet:
IF, (I put if in capital letters because I don’t expect it) there is a goal either way I would advise using the half stake that I advised you to hold back on the DRAW. In-play (if there is a goal) the odds for a draw will be better then the 19/20 currently on offer.
Having watched Ghana’s two games they are very capable of making it look like a game without it being a game. As soon as they went 1-0 up it was a case of attacks with wild shots, poor crosses etc. My instinct is that they have been on the dodgy bets all tournament. I’d be very surprised if we see anything but a 0-0 here.

    Celtic over 1.5TG
    Monaco over 1.5TG

    £10 returns £25.27

I’ll also be looking at Athletico’s team news as they are 11/10 to score over 1.5TG and will be worth a punt if they play a near full strength side. They are 3-0 up from the first leg so may rest players.

  82. liamw 7 years ago

Not as many goals as I’d hoped for in the Dundee United u20s match but the Man City game tonight at least completed the goals treble:

    O3.0, 3.5 pays 49/50 @ Bet365 * VOID / LOST *
    Dundee United O1.5 tgls pays 7/4 @ Sportingbet * LOST *

    O2.5 mgls treble pays 2/1: * WON *
    Hibernian U20 (1 pm)
    Dundee United U20 (2 pm)
    Man City U23 (7 pm)

And Brugge conceded so that’s the win to nil out the window – my team goals bets are just about alive but need some big second halves.

  83. hudmystar 7 years ago

Anyone watching the Celtic game do they look like they will score another?

    • andrzejstarba 7 years ago

I was really excited by the midweek card this week but so far it hasn’t quite delivered particularly on the goals front. Good job I had a few winners in the obscure leagues otherwise it would’ve been a disaster!

Have had a mooch about tonight’s card and put a few on the shortlist but only one standing out for value…

    Night Owl:

SPORT RECIFE VS. SAMPAIO CORRÊA (21.45 KO):

Copa do Nordeste match here and although the bookies aren’t fancying many goals, much like last night’s Brasilian, (there’s a thought) I think we might just see a few.

The two have met twice in the same competition in recent years with a 3-1 and 3-2 scoreline (2015) and scorelines throughout this cup tend to be much more open than team’s league performances dictate.

    Selections to consider:

    BTTS…19/20
    ????

    OVER 3.5 MGS…9/5
    ??

Best of luck all on a late one ?

Looks that way Mr F – good wee player but looked disinterested and out of shape recently…probably more to do with playing in a struggling Hull set up than personal form to be fair.

      Can’t have hit a set-ball mind.

Currently listening to Talk Sport with a Liverpool fan calling for Klopp’s head..seriously?

Liverpool are on an atrocious run and I half expected them to get through tonight but again they’ve been shut out by a defensive masterclass from Southampton.

Posted after the Swansea game and got slated for hyping up Wolves chances on Saturday. If Lambert sets the team up to frustrate Liverpool for the first twenty minutes it will be a very frustrated Anfield crowd. I am still of the belief that Klopp will make five to six changes in anticipation of the game against Chelsea on Tuesday. I was shot down a few days but I’m still standing by my call that Liverpool are there for taking.

    Wolves win
    12/1

    Wolves over 1.5TG
    6/1

    Wolves double chance
    7/2

I really like Klopp and don’t agree with the abuse he is receiving on Talk Sport and I really hope he turns it round in time for Chelsea on Tuesday but Wolves will be up for this.

*Awaiting abuse of no chance from Liverpool fans ;)

i might be wrong but didn’t he say his plan for this year was top 4 and not the league, if it is what he said, then maybe the fans should not be so rash, i think he obviously has a plan for next year or 2 (well thats what i think anyway)

      Evening Craigyboy,

I’ll start with a caveat that I am off my t*its on Lemsip and flu-based tablets and have spent much of the night hallucianating and posting random links to a Nothern adult comic…so at least that puts me on the same boat as 97% of TalkSport listeners.

As it happens, I listen a lot but the majority of callers reduce the show to a sports-version of Jeremy Kyle.

Klopp is and has been a breath of fresh air to the EPL – a great manager, but like all managers in the modern PL era, he has hit a bum spell.

Nothing more or nothing less than a pointer that the EPL (love it or loath it) is perhaps one of the most difficult leagues in the world to maintain any degree of form and consistency.

As for the Wolves game, look at tonight – some games you would be mad to bet on…seems to me, the maddest games are the ones closest to home!

      Good luck pal.

The Brasilian looked great after a 3rd minute goal but, like many on the site, lady luck has buggered off and the game didn’t see another bit of goal action…lost.

    Night Owl 2:

Low stakes here but could be a little bit of value on offer…

    URUGUAY U20 VS. PERU U20 (00.15 KO):

Some cagey results recently but both teams saw BTTS in their last game and after a stale start, we seem to be seeing a few goals in the competition.

H2Hs aren’t as recent as we’d like but offer an insight annd the last 3 games all saw 4 or more goals.

One stat noted from both recent and historical games is a predominance for second half goals.

    3 selections to consider:

    OVER 1.5 FHGS…EVENS
    ??

    OVER 2.5 MGS…20/23
    ??

    URUGUAY WIN/BTTS…5/2
    ?

    Good luck ?

Btts treble pays slightly over 4/1 b365.gl and goodnight am hopeful of wakening up to profit.

Peru pushed for that 3rd goal but it never came despite the red card.

    Lost…poor form continues.
