THE top tips made a small profit thanks to Barcelona’s late winner but I was disappointed in Burkina Faso messing up the Super Single so early.
They should have had their game with Equatorial Guinea sewn up by half-time but my 5pt-loss was recovered thanks to a 2-1 Top Treble of Spurs, Villarreal and Barca.
I picked out Burkina Faso as Super Single before deciding on Celtic -1 for my Daily Record column and I wished I’d gone with that.
In the paper and on the site I tipped Virgil van Dijk to score first at 16-1 so I hope some got on my Chris Guy-esque punt.
Dundee were another correct call at home to Kilmrnock and I hope I put some people off backing Dundee United who I said were too short at St Mirren who deserved their draw.
It’s much quieter on Thursday with another two matches from the African Nations Cup (I’d take counsel from raaljaca on those), Napoli v Udinese in the Italian Cup, Espanyol v Sevilla in Spain and Rennes v Reims in France among the highlights.
I’m leaving the African Nations alone today and having looked closely at the matches at Napoli, Espanyol and Rennes I’ve decided to up a double as a Super Single but it’s dependent on my team news being accurate.
From what I’ve read Rennes and Reims will play their strongest teams available. Rennes will be without injured winger Paul-Georges Ntep and left-back Cheikh M’Bengue who is at the African Nations.
Reims have deeper problems with right-back Aissa Mandi, midfielder Prince Oniangue and strikers Odair Fortes and Benjamin Moukandjo at the African Nations. Winger Diego is crocked so that’s half a team missing.
Rennes lost 3-1 on their own ground to Reims in the league in December and are just two points ahead of their rivals but they’ve been in decent form and team news points in the direction of a home win at a best 4-5 with Coral.
Add Napoli at home to Udinese in the Italian Cup. The holders are expected to field a strong side as they launch the defence of their trophy and crucially Udinese are likely to be without key man Antonio di Natale. Both sides will have three or four other players out.
Napoli’s only defeat in five was at home to champions Juventus while Udinese haven’t won in their last five. Their record in Naples isn’t too bad with one win and three draws in six visits but if Di Natale doesn’t start I’d be happy to go with the home win at a biggest 4-9 at Coral and Paddy Power.
Sevilla have a good record in Espanyol, losing just one of seven visits, and have won their last five matches but key here is what sort of side they field. They have a vital La Liga game with Valencia on Monday so are likely to rest stars.
Espanyol followed their defeat of Valencia in the cup by beating Celta Vigo and while they’re still not clear of relegation trouble they may put more emphasis on this one. I’d back a full-strength Sevilla but with it being a two-legged affair the visitors may be happy to go home level or one goal behind so I’m leaving it alone.
