IT was a manic Monday at the Australian Open as eight women's seeds crashed out in round one.

Ana Ivanovic was the highest profile casualty, the world No.5 losing in three sets to Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic. On Tuesday morning former champ Serena Williams looks to avoid a giant-killing against Alison van Uytvanck who is a whopping 19-1 with Unibet for the win.

In the men's singles Andy Murray is due on court around midnight to take on Aussie Mad Dog Marinko Matosevic. Murray was taken to a tie-break in the final set of his 3-0 win over Yuki Bhambri and bet365 go 11-10 that there will be a tie-break in his second-round clash.

There's plenty other big names in action and an intrirguing match-up sees two Aussie rising stars go head to head, with Samuel Groth 3-4 at BetVictor against Thanasi Kokkinakis, who shocked Ernests Gulbis in round one and is 5-4 with SportingBet to spring another surprise.

Staying Down Under, the cricket ODI between Australia and England got under way in the early hours of Tuesday.

Heading Stateside, there are two NBA fixtures – Oklahoma City Thunder at Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs at Denver Nuggets – plus a packed card in the NHL.

Post your sporting tips and chat here and good luck with your bets.

    Match-up double, winner in capitals:

HEINRICH HAUSSLER v Steel Von Hoff
    SAMUEL DUMOULIN v Lorenzo Manzin
Double @ 2.20 with William Hill
    WIN

The break away just made it to the end in front of a sprinting peloton. Will be back tonight with my thoughts on stage 2.

Aint it strange people only take ill in tennis when they are losing. Something for the Medical profession to investigate no doubt.

Huggy, 10 from 12, superb sir!!!

Huggy – gutted, Portland missed free throw on 1 sec cost me $100 winnings. Had em -4.5 in treble with Subs & Bucks. Gutted as that was my winnings from the Rockets gone.

    • Attila 9 years ago

*Portland won by 4 btw…1 point short!

Btw – havnt looked at today’s games yet but ill post later. I actually like the small cards better mate, I find I get better results as can analyze the few games better whereas I struggle for time with the big cards.

Anyways buddy, OKC -3.0 looks mighty juicy tbh!

    • huggybear 9 years ago

Mate to make it worse they won 6 free thows with 21 seconds on the clock and missed 3 of them , now thats a disgrace…

JORDAN sorry i never replied yesterday still ill tried to rest up all yesterday but back at work today. I didn’t lose my stake i cashed out for 0 loss but i could have won a good amount for me especially as i only place £1- £10 bets. In all honesty im not up to scratch with american football and im given these tips all the while so i follow blindly on things like that as you have to level stakes and i win a lot more than i lose. Problem is i would normally been at work or in bed but as i was sick couldn’t sleep so watched the cashout sink so took it rather than lose. I know its not good to bet on things you don’t understand but i have had £5 on Ronnie killing Lucy in eastenders and i don’t watch that crazy. Jordan appreciate your time and help mate

Well i’ve woken up to a pretty decent set of results from Melbourne.

Gojowyzk d Garcia Lopez @ 5/6 RETIRED (LOST or VOID)
    Gonzalez d Fognini @ 11/4 WON
    Bacsinszky d Jankovic @ 11/10 WON
    Krunic d Davis @ 6/5 LOST
    Petkovic d Brengle @ 8/13 LOST
    Vandeweghe/Strycova/Johnson treble @ 2.2 WON
    Strycova/Johnson/Bolelli/Groth 4-fold @ 3.36 WON
    Lorenzi d Dolgopolov @ 2/1 WON

My 9/1 favourites 14-fold is also still alive and well I think.

There’s a chance I’ve missed a tip or two off here, i’ll have to trawl back through the previous threads before I know for sure. But 1,000/1 Bacsinszky lives to fight another day….it’s good to dream big!

    • Carlitos 9 years ago

Ad – Fantastic tipping! Followed the 9-1 acca removing Wednesday’s matches as well as backing the 4-fold and the treble. Keep up the good work!

Fantastic tipping recently Huggy. Don’t know enough about B’ball but have been enjoying getting on your SS and having profits rolling in. Hopefully another tonight!

glad you made some bucks , tonights is posted , fingers crossed as always .. hoping for 11 out 13 !!!

Heather Watson wasnt an upset cooldude… She is poor! I always bet on her opponent in the majors and normally she goes out in the first round.

  11. cooldude 9 years ago

Ernie has Laura Robson made it to round 2?

    USA Basketball Tips Today:

    – SS/NAP: OKC Thunder -3.0 @ $1.92 (5 pts) – NBA

    – SINGLE #2: Spurs -7.0 @ $1.92 (2.5 pts) – NBA

    – DOUBLE: LSU +15.5 @ Florida, Air Force +15.5 vs. San Diego State @ $1.92 (2.5 pts) – NCAA College B’Ball

My SS is the same as Huggybears’…its as close to a certainty on such a small card.
Smaller stake on Spurs to win by 8+ points in Denver, but do note Denver is a very hard place to travel to and come away with points.
Did a bit of study on College B’Ball games too and these 2 stood out to give the Headstart. Both games are sitting at +9.5 lines at 10/11 odds, but at +15.5 each we get a nice safe Double that also pays 10/11 or $1.92.

    GL today guys!

    • huggybear 9 years ago

attila did you read my comment above , gutted for you..

    • Attila 9 years ago

I know Huggy, their fee throw shooting percentage was pathetic. Realm they should have won it by 8 or 9. I’d rather the bet lose by 5 or 10 points tho…its so much harder to stomach when its just 1 point shy on the last leg of a treble!!! Lol.
Made most of it back on a -1 double on Japan & Iraq tho so not feeling as $hite.

Or give me a selection of 7 or 8 to pick my own from. Thanks

Huggy thanks for making me nearly bounce my phone like a basketball last night…was going to play safe with Housten but took your NAP and put it to great use ;) Cheers and glad I didn’t bottle it an cash out.

WTF?! OKC Thunder line now out 5 points to -8.5!!! Someone must have really lumped on and woke the bookies up.
I do think OKC will win by at least 10 points so the bet is still a go’er, albeit more risky now.

  21. jimba 9 years ago

Attila, tonights nba games not up yet on boyles, what site r u on m8?

    • Attila 9 years ago

Jimba, I’m in Australia mate. I use an Aussie bookie http://www.sportsbet.com.au

The spreads are all up but the alternative +15.5 spreads for the College B’Ball wont be available til a few hours before games.

  22. Ad 9 years ago

Steve I think Karlovic will win and tipped him the other day @ 8/11. Backing him with someone who voids retirements is probably the safest way to go. I also ambitiously tipped 3-0 4/1…..We shall see!

Iddy- My NAP for tonight is Groth to win which I posted yesterday and I’m sticking with that. I’ll give you the picks I like most and see what you make of them. But there isn’t really that much on the card tonight that jumps out at me.

    Groth d Kokkinakis @ 8/11
    Karlovic d Kyrgios @ 8/13
    Tiebreak in Groth v Kokkinakis @ 4/11
    Berdych 3-0 @ 6/10
    Murray 3-0 @ 2/5
    Dimitrov 3-0 @ 4/7
    Dodin + 5.5 v Pliskova @ 11/10 or play safe with +7.5 @ 3/10

I’ve not spent a huge amount of time looking at everything in depth yet but I’m not sure i’m going to find much i really fancy tonight. If you like any of those as well then go for it, but if not might be best off waiting for a more appealing card. Personally I’ll probably just put a small acca on but otherwise stick with singles and doubles on Groth and Karlovic and my longshot Dodin.

Last nights bets all went close:

    Azarenka – WON
    Kanepi – LOST
    Keys – WON
    1.52/1

    Nishikori 3-0 – WON
    Isner 3-0 – WON
    Ferrer 3-0 – LOST
    4.8/1

    Bit of fun:
    Johnson – WON
    Verdasco – WON
    Isner – WON
    Dodig – WON
    Simon – WON
    Zheng – LOST
    Stosur – WON
    Zahlavova-Strycova – WON
    Azarenka – WON
    Kanepi – LOST
    Petkovic – LOST
    Keys – WON
    23/1

    To win the first set:
    Fognini
    Johnson
    1.02/1 – WON

    To win the second set:
    Johnson
    Azarenka
    1.7/1 – WON

    To win the first set:
    Fognini – WON
    Johnson – WON
    Verdasco – LOST
    Isner – WON
    3.4/1

Went very close on the losing selections and there were a couple of winners in there too.

Made massive profit in-play last night so I think thats the way I’m going to go tonight rather than so many pre match bets.

Only two trebles for me pre match. I like the look of Klizan, Chardy, Roger-Vasselin for a men’s treble and Makarova, Errani and Mladenovic for a women’s treble. Both pay close to 2/1, the men’s just over and the women’s just under.

Might look at the doubles matches later on.

  25. Ad 9 years ago

I think you’re right about in-play being the way to go tonight Sam.

  26. Attila 9 years ago

Huggy, what do you think now OKC has blown out from -3.0 to -9.0???? Too risky?

  27. Sam 9 years ago

I think so Ad, can’t believe I was let down by one selection on so many bets haha! The Ferrer 3-0 annoyed me the most, lost the first set tie break then absolutely breezed the next 3 sets!

I stayed up to watch the majority of last nights action and was making doubles and trebles on who would win the current/next set and had a fair few land. Also a few doubles on a player holding serve. Picking two female players to hold serve normally pays around evens.

Seems to be easier to make selections once you let the match develop a bit first and see how each player is palying.

  28. Ad 9 years ago

Absolutely. When you’re actually watching a match the initiative is sometimes very visibly with one player or the other, and shifts in momentum are only possible to properly spot if you’re watching. Can lead to some big wins if you’re disciplined and don’t get carried away placing bets on players who are behind that you hope will turn it around at good odds but have no real reason to suspect they actually will!

I’ve only placed 3 in-play bets so far this week, Berankis and Seppi to win when they were a set down and Monfils today when he was a break down in the 5th. Gutted I didn’t get home in time to back him when he was 2 sets down! Would’ve made a fair few quid there.

    Women’s Second round tips:

    Vandeweghe d Stosur @ 6/4

Stosur really doesn’t do well in Melbourne. For an Australian player who thrives on a hardcourt it’s baffling that she’s never made it past the 4th round. Vandeweghe isn’t as experienced at Slams but she carries none of the demons her opponent does here and is in decent form. She beat Stosur on a hardcourt the only time they played last year and is very capable of getting the better of her again here.

In what should be a fairly even baseline battle (if Stosur doesn’t completely choke) between two big servers and hitters, I expect Vandeweghe to edge it as she doesn’t carry the mental baggage Stour does into it. 6/11 is way too short for Stosur so I’m taking the 6/4 on Coco. That price could well come down to around evens, so if you fancy backing Coco the earlier the better.

Gilles Muller also looks a little big @ 9/5 to beat Bautista Agut. Muller has been serving out of a tree recently, and he hit 29 aces in 3 sets of tennis today. He also won 89% of points behind his first serve and with stats like that he must have a chance at the upset.

  31. paul 9 years ago

    OTB

Oklahoma Thunder Biggamble or summit like that

  32. Ad 9 years ago

    Pliskova v Dodin

    2nd set over 9.5 games @ 13/8.

Why this price is this big I’m not sure. I’ve already stated I think Dodin can make this closer than the odds suggest and hopefully that proves to be the case. A 6-4 set really isn’t too much to ask for at these odds.

    Dodin +5.5 @ 11/10

A tad more conservative that my fairly wild bet on her to win @ 8/1, but if she puts in a good performance today she should be able to stop Pliskova running away with it. I’m not putting anything other than small stakes on this match as if Pliskova makes a fast start it could become very difficult for the youngster. But fingers crossed Dodin can keep close to her early on.

    Cycling: Milan San-Remo 2015 (22 March 2015)

Winner: JUAN JOSE LOBATO @ 201.00 EW with Betvictor

I think this year will be the breakthrough of this Spanish sprinter, he already showed some class finishing in the Tour Down Under. This price is far too big for the guy who was 4th in last year’s edition of Milan San-Remo. Worth a small stake EW (1/4 place 1,2,3).

    • Mr. Orange 9 years ago

I see betvictor has cut Lobato to 101 for Milan San-Remo. You can still get him at 201 at PP and Ladbrokes.

  37. huggybear 9 years ago

Guys that a bit naughty but when i took my bet early this morning / late last night bet365 were giving the line at 3`s which was the reason to post early.

bit of a dilemma really but picked this info up when researching just now and whilst their tips are bloody awful it does back up what i`m sure were all thinking….

(Oklahoma City is improving, with its Big Two back in action, while Miami is a night-to-night proposition. Wade, Deng and Andersen could all play tonight, or they could all miss the game, or some combination of the three. The Heat have actually been a slightly better bet this season without Wade.

OKC is coming off two very nice performances, and while we might be tempted to fade a team in such a situation, the Thunder, when healthy, are one of the league’s elite. So we’ll go with Oklahoma City as our NBA pick)

IT IS A SMALL CARD and i do like the ova in the spurs game, nuggets score well at home but spurs need these wins to continue and will hopefully score high to stay with em with the possibility of ot if they stay close.

sorry its a long winded thread but we all need a bit more info , just want to hear your thoughts ? you all still taking thunder -7 remember in recent weeks this side took out GOLDEN STATE 127 – 115 AND BEAT ORLANDO AND THE SPREAD BY HALFTIME.

also heat are carrying a few injuries and may rest them for more winable games ….

GOOD LUCK GUYS , IM ON ( AT 3`S LOL ) SO SUPER SINGLE IN THUNDER -7 , SORRY IF THIS BOMBS GUYS , LEVEL STAKES HELP WITH SUCH A POOR CARD…

he really could have got a hattrick in first game against Gabon & he wont miss as many chances again all tournament

Burkina Faso & Gabon must be over priced here against two poor teams & i was in no doubt making the double my NAP

    Huggy-

Not sure which bets you mean but I’ll post my best ones with the relevant info.

Kyrgios v KARLOVIC is at 06:00 tomorrow in the Men’s Australian Open

GROTH v Kokkinakis is at 07:00 tomorrow in the Men’s Australian Open

The prices on both have come down a bit since I posted.

VANDEWEGHE v Stosur is at 00:00 on Thursday morning in the Women’s Australian Open.

MULLER v Bautista Agut is at 00:00 on Thursday morning in the Men’s Australian Open.

DODIN v Pliskova is at 01:30 tomorrow morning in the Women’s Australian Open.

Groth/Karlovic are my most confident picks. Vandeweghe I also have faith in. Muller I think represents value but I would be much less surprised to see him lose than the others. Dodin will either make me look smart or stupid. +5.5 games should be well within her reach if she performs though and the over 9.5 games in the second set seems like it must be worth a shot at the odds on offer.

  42. aj 9 years ago

My only tennis bet for this evening.

    Murray v Matosevic – Under 29.5 games
    Berdych v Melzer – Under 30.5 games

    Double pays 2.18/1

    Interested to hear anyone’s thoughts

    • Ad 9 years ago

It’s got a decent chance aj. I think both will probably be straight sets but whether they both go under is even harder to say. I wouldn’t be that surprised if the Berdych match went over. Melzer is good behid serve when he is playing well. So is matosevic for that matter, but if Murray and Berdych are really switched on they should be able to win sufficiently comfortably. It only takes one tiebreak set to make unders v difficult though.

    • aj 9 years ago

Ad – my thoughts exactly with regards to both players winning 3-0. I have to admit I don’t know much about their opponents other than stats that were available such as H2H. Murrays been playing well of late and I’m more confident about him achieving the unders. Both players to win in straight sets is almost evens which may be another worthwhile bet.

    Cycling: Tour Down Under 2015

    Stage 2

Avoiding Kittel for stage 1 was the right choice, the fastest guy on the planet was not sprinting at all. The second stage is a stage which returns every year and finishes uphill. This stage usually sees a powerful sprint to the line on top of the small climb. When I saw the starting list I thought Meersman or Lobato have the best skills to win this stage and after seeing their current form I will stick to them in the match-ups.

    Match-up double, winner in capitals:

JUAN JOSE LOBATO v Heinrich Haussler
    GIANNI MEERSMAN v Daryl Impey
Double @ 3.64 with William Hill

Lobato won 2 races with a finish like this last season. Because of his fast finishing in the classic on Sunday and his fast sprint yesterday I see him as one of the favourites for stage 2. I have never seen Haussler have a good result on this kind of terrain.

In one of those races Lobato won, Meersman came in second. He showed in some Belgian races he has a fast sprint on an uphill finish like this. Impey is the better climber, but I think he misses the speed to finish in front of Meersman.

You can take them as 1.91 singles, but I will play a smaller stake double.

Note all: As I missed the OKC -3.0 when markets were first out (even tho I tipped it), I’ve gone a double stake (10 points) on -6.5 @ $1.53 as I feel -9.0 is too risky a spread to take.

@Langerdan, from what I can see the 2 NHL bets that stand out to me are:

    – Tampa Bay WIN @ EVENS
    – Dallas Stars ML @ EVENS

  52. Ad 9 years ago

This isn’t a tip because I do think Julia Goerges will beat Koukalova. But 3/1 is pretty big considering Koukalova is a match for her if she brings her A game. Koukalova is one of the least composed and most unreliable players on tour, but Goerges is hardly Miss Consistency. Going to put a few quid on the upset as this is women’s tennis we are talking after all ;)

and I want you all to know so I look clever if it does happen. And to forget about this when it doesn’t!

  53. Attila 9 years ago

@Paul – wouldn’t you take Miami +10.0 at EVENS in that case? OKC should win, its just by how many that ppl aren’t sure of…

  54. Sam 9 years ago

Don’t do that to me Ad, I’ve backed Goerges tonight haha!

  57. Ad 9 years ago

Sam mate Goerges will most likely win, I wouldn’t worry about it. I’m just throwing a couple of quid away for interest. It’s a big price given their respective top levels and the women’s draws propensity for upsets. But if I was playing with a decent sized stake Id take Goeges all day.

  58. Jordan 9 years ago

Evening gents. Gave a bit back with the Rose assists last night after a winner on the points. Bulls were down at HT so he decided to score instead of assist in the second half.

Small stakes tonight. Serge Ibaka (OKC) averages 7.3 rebounds per game. The Thunder rank 1st in the league in rebounds with the Heat ranking last. Ibaka’ boards in his last 10 games. 8, 8, 7, 7, 10, 5, 6, 7, 10, 14.

Paul, think you may have been right about Miami. They look up for it, OKC don’t look interested…hmmm.

Happys days another great tip landed great stuff

  66. Attila 9 years ago

Glad I took Thunder -6.5 instead of the -10.0 they were offering before tip off. And because I double stakes the profit is same as an Evens vet at normal stake.

Glad you guys all got on and won some. It was Huggy’s call first so congrats to you again Huggybear!

The wet lettuce, yeah I know mate…in hindsight its always great to wish ya’d taken the underdog outright, but more often than not they won’t win which is why i try to go safe with the spread :-)
Air force aren’t doing well btw – down by 23 at HT, but being the homedog, they should make up the 8 points needed!

  68. the wet lettuce 9 years ago

Typical Air Force Blown Away 1st Half…Heres Hoping.

  69. Attila 9 years ago

Wet lettuce – Air Force are coming back, only down by 18 now.

Tour down under result stage 2

JUAN JOSE LOBATO v Heinrich Haussler
    GIANNI MEERSMAN v Daryl Impey
Double @ 3.64 with William Hill
    LOST

Had to stick with the singles. Lobato won the stage, Impey came in 2nd.

    • ticketyboo 9 years ago

@ Mr Orange Daryl Impey did win the 2nd stage William Hill have paid out.

    • Mr. Orange 9 years ago

@ ticketyboo, I was paid out too. But I fancied Meersman to finish in front of Impey and that didn’t happen. Mistake by WH :)
