BOURNEMOUTH disappointed me last weekend as they were beaten by Norwich but I'm hoping they do me a turn this weekend.

Eddie Howe's men aren't on my Super Single shortlist mainly because they are under evens at Rotherham but they will be on my aways list. Bournemouth won 5-1 at Rotherham in the FA Cup recently and will be out to get back on track in the race for promotion after their shock defeat to the Canaries.

So let's look at the teams who do make it – and remember these are my first thoughts looking just at form and stats. Team news could rule out any of my initial selections and if you any that might put us off a team please comment.

I've also put up a Top Treble shortlist for the first time – just looking at the UK games.

Super Single shortlist

NEWCASTLE draw no bet v Southampton (5.30pm)

DERBY -1 v Nottm Forest (12.15pm)

Leeds v BIRMINGHAM

SHEFF WED v Bolton

FLEETWOOD v Oldham

Notts County v CREWE

PORT VALE v Peterborough

Scunthorpe v BRISTOL CITY

FALKIRK v Queen of South

Queen's Park v ARBROATH

Top Treble shortlist

Aston Villa v LIVERPOOL

Swansea v CHELSEA

SPURS v Sunderland

WEST HAM v Hull (Sun)

DERBY v Nottm Forest

MIDDLESBORO v Huddersfield

SWINDON v Chesterfield

ABERDEEN v Dundee

Hamilton v CELTIC (12.45pm)

ALBION ROVERS v East Fife

Could be a tough game for Birmingham, Leeds know how to rough a side up, especially on their own turf.

  2. Alex 9 years ago

    I’d add in
    WOLVES vs Blackpool
    Millwall vs IPSWICH

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Alex, both were on my first shortlist which numbered about 20 teams.

  3. Vangoo 9 years ago

What’s your thoughts on the rangers game tomorrow night?
. I think hearts are a massive price at 7/4 sky bet

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Vangoo, you’re new – Hearts have been tipped on the site since Monday when they were 12-5 and 13-5.

  4. Vangoo 9 years ago

Aye new to posting been on your tips for a long time
Just started looking at the prices today
Who had them at 13/5 that’s crazy I personally think they will walk it

  5. Ian Menzies 9 years ago

    Spurs, Derby & Middlesborough.

Cant bring myself to back Liverpool as yet!

    • nathan ufton 9 years ago

Not really got any knowledge of spurs but Middlesborough at home and derby, you’d be foolish not to back them. derby’s price which has been glued at 8/11 for almost a week now and I think a more realistic price for the derby game would be 1/4 or so.

  6. cazzo 9 years ago

Morton to beat ayr utd. 4/5

  7. Baldy45 9 years ago

    Vangoo, 3.40 was the biggest price (b e t f a i r) on Hearts. I know cos I got matched.

Mr F, I know you’re confident in Derby but be careful, as poor as Forest are right now, this is a fierce derby. These 2 really hate each other, a red card could ruin the match.

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Baldy45, that might have been the biggest price on betfair but BetVictor opened at 13-5 which meant McBookie also were 13-5 much to their amazement. It was cut quickly to 12-5 which was at that point joint industry best. I have no concerns about Derby – read nathan ufton’s comments.

  8. robert miller 9 years ago

must admit to being surprised at the 6/5 Falkirk on offer judging by their recent form…. that one stuck out for me as i had a sift through the fixtures and odds yesterday….

  9. Alex 9 years ago

Mr F what was the reason for you dropping them out of interest?

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

alex, no reason – just had to reduce the list to 10. My initial shortlists this weekend were huge – that’s a good sign but the weather aspect is a concern.

  10. Alex 9 years ago

By the way, I see liverpool as an absolute steal at 1.85 against the worst team in the league at the moment in Villa

    • Ad 9 years ago

Liverpool are pretty poor though…..I think draw. Villa unbeaten at home in 5 and beat Liverpool away earlier this season.

  11. Alex Walker 9 years ago

Av had a good look at this wkends coupons. And its a favs dream. Uk coupons and europe. If they all drop and they should it could be another boxing day. Here’s hoping that they do.

  12. danny b 9 years ago

Afternoon my top tip for this weekend would be to check the weather saturday morning before placing bets especially lower league games where stadiums are open to the elements with snow, rain and 70mph winds in parts of the uk can have a big impact on games. Just my little thought before I done my accas lol

  13. daz 9 years ago

The past few weeks have been fave dreams but the faves drew or lost.

  14. Moses Mejia 9 years ago

danny b is right, I heard that in the UK will have awful weather these days so only you that live there know how it feels. I hope that weather dont bother the games :). Good luck to everyone!!

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Moses, I’d be surprised if half the card in Scotland survives – been cold, wet and windy all week.

  15. Jamie 9 years ago

I’m for a slice of that Derby -1 a bargain my Gran would be proud of at 2.88

  16. Moses Mejia 9 years ago

Yes you’re right Mr F especially lower league games like danny said, so i’m going to put aside some choices in the lower leagues. Thank You!!!

im on derby -1 (15/8)£15single.&iv jumped on the hearts Bandwagon Hearts to win (17/10)£15&£5 -1goal…Iv had a good look today and i really fancy AFC wimbledon at EVENS to bt not so good Carlisle so have already done a £15 single on that today. i might do SWINDON in a single also to bt chesterfield EVENS they look Very good.

  19. donny1266 9 years ago

My super single is Bristol Rovers to win away at Woking. We have just signed Jermaine Easter who was playing in the championship recently and the only reason we aren’t top is because there have been games where we couldn’t score. I got them draw no bet at evens with betvictor but will probably put a bit on straight win. Honestly think we will be promoted this year.

  20. Redofheaven 9 years ago

A quick comment on the Derby game, a red card in this fixture more often than not.

  21. mikey 9 years ago

    Hi Mr f
I as a owls ST holder would not back us at home. We are playing brilliantly at the mo but we look so much better when teams come at us and we can get in behind.if Bolton press us whilst holding their shape we will struggle. I hope I’m wrong and we do win but won’t have money on us.

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

mikey, that’s exactly the stuff we like to hear.

  22. Gary 9 years ago

Really fancy Ipswich as ss they gave Southampton a game last night&Millwall are rank rotten

  23. double carpet 9 years ago

WBA might be a decent shout away to EVERTON who had a tough CUP game during the week which went to extra time and played with 10 men for most of the game.
AT 15/4 i might have a small single on them.

  24. top tip terry 9 years ago

Got a feeling Everton will come good from now on i think thats a bit dodgy personally double carpet.:-(

  25. James M 9 years ago

    Ipswich for SS. Currently 11/10 @ ..365.

  26. CiderArmy 9 years ago

As posted a couple of days ago, I fancy my Bristol City against Scunthorpe.
although Scunny are on a good run, City are playing with high confidence right now after 9 wins from 11 and were at 10/11 last time I checked.

As for goal scorers, Matt Smith has been on a good run and I have backed him frequently over the last few games. However, I’d highly reccommend backing Jay Emmanuel Thomas. I watch City week in week out and ‘JET’ has really found his confidence of late. Injuries to Aaron Wilbraham and Kieren Agard have given him an opportunity and he has worked well with Matt Smith. He has set up many opportunities for his strike partner in the last few games and has gone back to what he does best, taking defenders on. He scored twice on Tuesday nights game against Doncaster and got on the scoresheet in the 4-0 win against Notts County at the weekend. He looks like he wants to score every time he gets the ball now and at 11/5 to score anytime I can’t help but put my money where my mouth is.

Emmanuel Thomas to score anytime – 11/5

    Or 1st goalscorer – 7/1

  27. Derek Lobban 9 years ago

Don’t fancy Newcastle at all. Southampton seem to have perfected a good away system, tight and hit on the break. Newcastle have lost a couple of players to the African Nations and I strongly fancy Soton at better than evens.

  28. Derek Lobban 9 years ago

I like the look of Hamilton DNB at 7/1. Hamilton won at Celtic Park and have the benefit of the plastic pitch. Scott Brown could be missing and Celtic still look capable of dropping points especially away from home. The double chance is also worth backing at 12/5 for bigger hitters.

  29. Meatballdrex 9 years ago

    Saturday coupon buster

Be warned of Derby v Forest stay away from rivals when doing s/s three of the last 7 at Derby have been 1-1 or 1-0 either way + one 5-0 so that’s 6/7 U2.5 goals. Derby are 50% win chance but you can’t get evens the bet if any is U2.5goals one of the shock draws

  30. Meatballdrex 9 years ago

    Ad

    That’s s good call
    villa draw
    burnley draw
    and shock Spurs draw

Having just dropped sterling from my fantasy team
He’s bound to score and ruin it !!!!

  31. Alex Walker 9 years ago

Can see all your 10 treble short list teams all winning. Worth a 5 spot.

  32. Jazza_Bairn 9 years ago

    MR F.
Its got to be Falkirk against Queen of South 11/8 massive game can jump above them in to the Play Off places albeit they have 1 game in hand.
On a great run of form playing excellent attacking football showed last week after coming from 3 1 down away to hibs to draw 3 – 3 got a lot of spirit in the team.
John Baird playing against his old team.
At Home as well on a pitch Falkirk are well used too.
I will be on minus 1, htft and baird to score first.
Cant see anything but a home win for your super single :).

  33. Stu24 9 years ago

Suprised Crystal Palace arent on the list, theyll be my super sungle at 11/5. or you can get draw no bet at 11/10.

  34. StTipp 9 years ago

All the value getting sucked out of Crewe right now as I quoted their opening price of 100/30 earlier in the week but they are now 12/5 on odds checker so I’m more inclined towards laying them as most of their improved form is at home anyway.

  35. Lethal 9 years ago

I think we should start putting our faith in crewe a bit more. Those loan players who have come in have made them very strong and again be a very good choice

top treble for Saturday chealsea, bournemouth, aberdeen ad stranraer for a 4 fold gl

  43. Matty 9 years ago

How about Leicester at 8/5 (365) at home to Stoke? Leicester have looked good for the past month or so, last loss on boxing day home to Spurs, which was really unlucky. Since then they have won 3/4 and drew away at Liverpool where they were also very unlucky as they hit the post twice and Liverpool scored 2 dodgy penalties, they haven’t conceded a goal in those 3 wins too, and again wouldn’t have conceded in Liverpool of it want for the penalties. I saw the highlights vs Villa last week and they probation should have won by at least 5 while Stoke had 0 attacking threat vs Arsenal.

  44. Sean Ireland 9 years ago

Newcastle draw no bet vrs Southampton??? you cant be serious? Id replace that with IPSWICH @ 5/4 away to an absolutely awful Millwall Mr F,not sure why it isnt mentioned.

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Sean, it’s just a shortlist so calm down. Two things – how’s Ipswich’s virus-hit squad and who are Southampton playing in midfield with all of their injuries?

    • Sean Ireland 9 years ago

Well thats me told off then in no uncertain terms :)

    • Sean Ireland 9 years ago

BRADFORD city look huge @ 9/5 away to yeovil,i relize you are going to say Bradford played midweek but they hardly had to play at top level in a very 1 sided game plus if you check their recent results they recorded 2 victories in space of 3 days 26-28 Dec add in the fact Yeovil have just 1 home win all season and have lost last FIVE lg 1 homes to NIL… even draw no bet has odds of 19/20,have to seriously consider them Mr f ;)

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Sean, problem is there are quite a lot of teams I fancy this weekend and I won’t be backing them all. I won’t go against Bradford but will likely leave the game alone.

  45. nathan ufton 9 years ago

I know Ipswich are right in the mix at the top of the league, but they were hit with a virus in the dressing room. Yes Millwall were beat up quite badly midweek in the cup, Ipswich after a great run have now had 2 losses on the bounce.
I think Bournmouth could/should bounce back, I expect Middlesborough to maintain their strong form with a win and I’ll nail my colours to the mast and say Derby will win with some to spare.
Still waiting on the correct markets to open up, as and when that appears, I shall post up my pre-match Derby summary and recommended bet.

  46. craigyboy 9 years ago

My super single is going to be a BTTS game I reckon. There’s absolutely no stand out evens or above bet for this weekend.

  47. Kev_Tranmere 9 years ago

Gotta be Ipswich for me at a very Tasty 5/4, the bookies don’t seem to realise that Millwall are getting worse the longer Holloway is there as he has long lost the dressing room! God knows why he still hasn’t been sacked but its the perfect game for Ipswich to get back to winning ways too and i see them winning by a 2 goal + Margain.

  48. nathan ufton 9 years ago

I know Ipswich are right in the mix at the top of the league, but they were hit with a virus in the dressing room. Yes Millwall were beat up quite badly midweek in the cup, and Ipswich after a great run have now had 2 losses on the bounce. On paper, Ipswich should beat Millwall, but how much damage has that virus done to the team. I guess we’ll find out Saturday.
The top of championship is unbelieveably tight and at this stage of the season, every week or two, an odd team will drop points and this is where the spread is generated.
Also point to note, the last few months of the season and those teams right at the bottom of the league will often upset your acca’s because the threat of relegation being a distinct possibility breaths new life into these teams.
I would much rather back a top 6 side playing a middle league side over one from the same group playing against teams being threatened with relegation.

  49. craigyboy 9 years ago

    SS Shortlist:

    Sheff Wed v Bolton BTTS

    Fleetwood Town v Oldham

    Burnley v Crystal Palace

    Millwall v Ipswich

    Plymouth v Luton

    Portsmouth v Burton

  50. Super Ally 9 years ago

Not sure about a few of your ss Mr F but like the look of the majority of teams on your top treble shortlist. Also agree with others above that Ipswich look a decent bet. I’d got for Derby -1 Asian handicap out of your super singles which is 5/4.

  51. Brandon 9 years ago

My Selections are harts and Lyon to win..as a double and chelsea , Lyon , Real Madrid , as treble.

  52. nathan ufton 9 years ago

Still waiting on the market to open up for me to post, but a little bit of info to share. Derby’s John Eustace got a knee cartlidge injury against Ipswich, he will be out for at least 2 months having had surgery today. Jordan Ibe who has done a great job for us has been recalled back to Liverpool which could signal a start for Darren Bent who has scored on EVERY debut for every club he’s been at.
Having confirmed Stephen Warnocks move from Leeds to derby today, we have also signed 2 more defenders and a right back who also plays midfield, along with Darren Bent. Derby’s bench was already very strong, we now have 7 players who could probably get a start in many of the starting line-ups within the championship.

George Thorne has already asked the gaffer if he can start on the bench, sadly he’s not ready, he’s maybe a month away from being ready.

McClaren has also appealed to the Notts forest owners to give Pearce time, but the reality of it is, I think his P45 was already post dated last week for the 17th January, – sackings often occur after a loss in this game. if you are like me and are expecting Derby to win that game, drop £10 on him at 6/4 with betvictor to win the championship sack race. I expect Roy Keane to be the man to fill his empty space @ 6/1 because he’s the right man to put a rocket up the players ar*es.

  53. hudmystar 9 years ago

I wouldn’t back villa this weekend i can not see us getting anything out of this game we are now missing our first 4 choice center backs and god knows who will play at center back with okre. But there is a massive protest this week at villa park with fans not taking seats until the 8th minute in the hope the ground will look empty this is going to have a massive negative effect on the players i believe and i can see the abuse starting quick if we conceded early on. i backed the villa to beat Liverpool at 12-1 earlier in the season but i cant see this happening here. I do however have this feeling the christian benteke mostly scores against the top sides so he could be a anytime scorer at best.

  54. hudmystar 9 years ago

I think there are some great prices this week. Ive looked through the last 5 homes & last 5 aways, top v bottom also last 5 overall and the top picks come out as below.

    LINCOLN CITY
    SHREWSBURY
    BRADFORD
    MIDDLESBOROUGH
    BOURNEMOUTH
    NORWICH
    IPSWICH
    BIRMINGHAM
    DERBY
    SOUTHAMPTON
    LIVERPOOL
CHELSEA (Not top v bottom but cant see swansea scoring at all)

    just my thoughts

  55. hudmystar 9 years ago

The top picks are just based on purely on form. No team news or head to heads

  56. Alva glen 9 years ago

Liverpool for me totally controlled the game at Sunderland.Ipswich too not buying the virus thing they had 16 players v Southampton.

  57. Graham 9 years ago

Dundee United 6/4 look a great price at home. Only dropped five points all season at Tannadice.

  58. DeeDee 9 years ago

Ipswich, Birmingham, Newcastle (DNB) and Stoke for me.

  59. Mav 9 years ago

    Bradford away to Yeovil 13/8

  60. mickmoose 9 years ago

Crewe win/btts we don’t keep many clean sheets

  61. Sean Ireland 9 years ago

    Super Single thought
Liverpool to beat Villa 1-0,2-0 or 2-1 @ 7/4 Skybet is a standout for me,the Scousers have lost just once in last 13 all comps and winning last 2 lg aways 1-0 but that isnt my main reason for backing the above.
Villa have managed just 7 goals in last 17 prem lg games and just 1 in last 6.
There has been under 2.5 goals in 10 of last 11 Villa lg games and they also havent conceded more than a single goal in last 10 prem lg games.
All points to a very narrow low scoring away win to me and the above scores combination should cover the possibilities at a decent 7/4. Good Luck ;)

  62. Aniekan O. 9 years ago

Mr fixit top treble shortlist look awesomely good for a 10 fold and 8 fold if you remove fumbling LIVERPOOL and hard fighting SUNDERLAND at Tottenham. Also by adding BRISTOL CITY to the 8 fold, one can get a nice 9 fold try.

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Aniekan, Defoe will probably be on the bench so won’t touch Sunderland – quite happy to take Liverpool. Braving the snow and heading home.

  63. Sean Ireland 9 years ago

‘fumbling liverpool’ as you put them aniekan are in decent form, only 1 loss in last 13 and that was at Old Trafford, that form would have them in top 4 from 29th Nov so that statement makes no sense at all :)

  64. Aniekan O. 9 years ago

Mr fixit , yea , Liverpool now look good looking at team news at villa so far. DERBY – NOTTINGHAM FOR game should also be shuffle since it’s a derby affair. Derby matches are so difficult to get right, so Liverpool can come in there. For me, I’ll keep shuffling them till I get something out of these nice looking treble shortlist.

  65. frago 9 years ago

Mr f I notice you have left wolves at home to Blackpool out of your top treble shortlist, is there any reason why? I have Aberdeen Chelsea and wolves as my treble.

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

frago, no particular reason although they played midweek and went to extra time. It’s a short list – not a long list. Here’s an exclusive for you – my treble will be Derby, Aberdeen and Liverpool.

  66. Glue 9 years ago

I’ve also gone for Bradford for my SS… On a bit of a run, wasn’t too tested during the week and Yeovil seem like a team that Bradford should turn over.

I also considered Ipswich but as mentioned, a virus amongst the squad and a tougher matchup during the week are what just put me off.

Burton Albion were the other team i shortlisted, again on a strong run since Hasslebaink took over including a good win against Shrewsbury who were top at the time i believe. They’re away to a Portsmouth who tend to blow more cold than hot.

  67. Alva glen 9 years ago

QPR look too big at 5/1 to beat Man.U.Austin will give that Utd defence a lot to think about.5/4 for double chance looks tasty.

  68. nathan ufton 9 years ago

Derby County v Notts Forest pre-match summary and recommended bet.
Apologies for posting so late in the week but I have been holding off waiting for the overs and unders cards market to open up before I committed to tipping my double.
Having seen Derby’s odds glued on @ 8/11 with bet365 which in my opinion is vastly overpriced, I had hoped that the benchmark for the cards market would also slip under their radar and be on the over/under 3.5 cards in the match. Sadly, they have dropped their marker down at over/under 5.5 cards.

The ref for the match: A madley is the 13 of 68 refs in the cards per match table @ 4.2 cards per game, and has yet to produce a red.
Going back through a few past head to heads, the last game produced 6 cards, then 4 previous to that and then 7. Typically this game is a fiery affair and between 2 of 4 and 3 of 4 games delivers a red.
Eustace – who’s always good for a yellow is out injured, as is assombalonga and mancciene. I would expect at least 4 cards in this game, but will it go over 5.5? I wouldn’t want to risk my cash.
I mentioned midweek lots of up to date news about derby/transfers etc and I shall summarise.

We’ve taken in 2 or 3 new defenders including Stephen Warnock and a highly rated Spanish defender, we also have Darren Bent itching to get started, he’s yet to start for derby and has notched up a goal on every debut for every club he’s played for. With Jordan Ibe recalled early to Liverpool, theres an attackers slot up for grabs – dawkins or Bent? with bents record, I’d give him a start.

Eustace is injured for the next 2 months, but George Thorne is maybe 1 month from match fitness, so Mascarell will probably regain his place. He seems to play much better at home than away.

People see this as a potential banana skin for the Rams but the squad and fans alike have been itching to play them since the 5-0 deforestation last year. Sadly for Notts forest, they feel the exact opposite. It’s not surprising, they are winless in 8 attempts and of their past 20 games in all competitions, they have won only 2 games.
Derby on the other hand seem to of found their stride around xmas. We had patchy form up till then, never really played great but stayed in the mix with the title chasers. We’ve won 4 league games on the bounce and only beaten twice at home since March – Wigan in November, millwall in march. That’s 20 league games at home and 2 losses.
When we played Forest at home last year, they had hit a bit of form, and Derby were stuttering. After the game Osama Bin Fawaz the Forest owner was quoted as saying ” its as if we were playing Barcelona ” and duly sacked King Billy for the 2nd time. Often losing managers of this feisty affair also lose their job straight after. Pearce has been on borrowed time and a Forest loss would no doubt be overshadowed in the media with the exit of Pearce. He’s 6/4 with betvictor to win the championship sack race. An early kickoff and those odds has got to be worth a tenner of anyones money.

With the overs cards portion of my bet scuppered by bet365, I then looked at the stats for corners. Last year we were 1st or 2nd highest average corners per game in the championship, yet this year, we seemed to change the way we attack. As we are next to useless at scoring from corners, our wide men are more likely to cut-in early this season and fire in a shot. This seems sensible, so if you’re looking at corners on this game, I would look at soccerway.com for this seasons corner stats, I’d say we are down on last season.

So unfortunately guys, I can only give you a single for this game.

My money will be on Derby -1.5 Asian handicap, the price seems to be better than the straight -1 h/c and gives you a small failsafe if we only win by one.

If forest want a point from this game, they’ll park the bus – Pearce NEEDS 3 points to salvage some credibility so they won’t sit back, they’ll come to have a go at us. Many have tried and most have failed.
If we get the early goal, this could be a goalfest. I’m not counting on equalling our 5 nil from last season, but it would be nice. 2 nil would land the bet, but realistically, this could be a higher scoring 3 nil, 3-1 , maybe even 4-1.

Derby have never played Forest when our form has been terrific and theirs has been aweful. This game I see as a nailed on home win, stats and current form back that up. we’re also 4 goals behind Bournmouth, this could be a great game to reel some of that in. A Derby win would put us 20 points ahead of Forest which is the number of points we finished the season ahead of them last year. That is the gulf between the sides and why 8/11 straight win is vastly overpriced.

We should be able to cover the handicap comfortably and whilst I’d love to see the likes of Bournmouth, Middlesborough and Ipswich slip up, I realistically see all 4 sides winning even though Ipswich have been hit with a virus.

Chris Martin also got his 100th career goal last week and he’s just 2 league goals behind Murphy in the championship top scorer table. I expect he’ll net tomorrow. – he is also our dedicated penalty taker and the most fouled player in the league.

forget to mention the odds on the -1.5 Asian h/c are 2.75 – ie. £27.50 returned from a £10 stake.

Cheers mr f, have small stake on derby also but don’t trust Liverpool no matter who they’re playing this season. Good luck with your bets.
