JAN 15: JOHNB’S RACING TIPS AND CHAT

Racing_Betfred

THERE was no joy for JohnB on Wednesday as January continued to prove a tough nut to crack.

It’s now a 17.87 point loss and we move on to Thursday’s tips which include a double.

Thursday’s Tips

Thurles 2:45
Champagne Fever 11-8 NB Bet365 Stan James

Meydan 5:40
Muarrab 7-4 NAP Paddy Power

6:15
Machette Mark 9-1 William Hill

Double
Muarrab & Champagne Fever 5.19-1 Bet365

Muarrab (NAP)

“A class act who has won his last four. Two runs ago Muarrab beat last year’s winner United Color by a neck.

“Muarrab then had a year off and came back and beat United Color by 10 lengths so did United Color run worse or did Muarrab run better? It was a bit of both but it was mostly Muarrab improving.

“Connections are getting Muarrab ready for a crack at the $2million Dubai Golden Shaheen. This is a step up in grade which Muarrab can take in his stride just like he will in the Golden Shaheen.

“I expect Paul Hannigan to play a waiting game over this 6f and he will strike late and fast.”

Champagne Fever (NB)

“There is one thing people need to remember about Champagne Fever – he has only had six runs over fences.

“Champagne Fever is a horse that is improving and on Thursday Willie Mullins runs him at his favoured distance again. He is two from two over 2m 4f when chasing. Last time out Mullins sent him to the King George where he ran in my opinion a cracking race at a distance that doesn’t suit him.

“He has done nothing wrong since going over fences and the most telling point today could be the 2lb that Champagne Fever receives from favourite Don Cossack.

“The only doubt I would have is will Don Cossack and Champagne Fever cut their own throats by taking each other on up front too early as both like to front run but I think Ruby is too smart to let that happen.”

Good luck if you’re having a punt and post your tips and chat here.

Just caught up on yesterday’s thread, as been busy all evening. Thanks Kev, boz and DC. glad I now seem to be able to contribute with fairly regular winners just like so many of you do daily. Still not at the same level as some of you though.
Busy day at work tomorrow, but will hopefully get chance to take good look at the cards and pick 2 or 3.
well done to all with winners today, on what was a fairly tough day

Don cossack 2-40 thurles NAP 5-4
Had nice break since Dec 7th, when completing an impressive hat trick, the last 2 over this trip.
He has won 4 from 4 over this exact distance.
Champagne fever hasn’t lived up to the hype since beating probably the best ever field in the champion bumper at cheltenham 2012.
He is a good chaser , not great, and had a hard race upped in trip in the king George on boxing day.
He won well in November beating some good names, but whose best days are behind them, and was getting at least 4 pounds off them all.
The odds makers can’t split them, but I lean towards cossack as I feel he is improving while champagne fever is not.

Morning all. The plan was to only give 2 or 3 today. But I’ve got 5 that I fancy.
    1.55 Firebird Flyer 5/1
    2.05 Trickaway 9/4 NAP
    2.15 Make Me A Fortune 11/4
    3.40 Toowoomba 7/4
    7.10 Boboli Gardens 2/1 NB

I’m relatively confident with my main two, and Make Me a Fortune. I’d prefer a slightly bigger price for Toowoomba but that’s unlikely. Firebird Flyer is one to back each way if you are guaranteed minimum to break level if it was to at least place. This just provides a slight safety net.

    Good luck all today

With all respect Buss, how did you mannage to be in profit with one winner (around 6/4) and 2 losers. You don’t put points staked next to you bets, so level stake will see you with a loss.

    • busstop 2 years ago

Youvan. No problem. I stake with the prices I get in the morning by percentage so that one winner provies a profit. Not always possible with small prices when I do multiples got 7/4 yesterday so slight profit yesterday

Most punters would bet this way. But no good if you want to back in a lot of races

      Gl

      • busstop 2 years ago

Today you could do level strikes and make a profit. At the prices I have taken. But I have still used percentages. It’s not difficult

      • busstop 2 years ago

        Yesterday. 7/4. 3/1 5/1. Eg £100 to stake

        7/4. £50. Return. £137.50
        3/1 £30. Return. £120.00
        5/1 £20. Return. £120.00

        Hope this helps

A star is back and i cant wait to see him again

    S
PRINTER SACRE is set to line up for the Sodexo Clarence House Chase at Ascot on Saturday after trainer Nicky Henderson “pressed the green button” following an all-important walk of the course this morning.

The brilliant nine-year-old is in line to make his first competitive appearance since suffering a well-documented heart problem when pulling up in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton in December 2013.

Henderson voiced concerns about the prospect of testing ground earlier in the week, but big-race jockey Barry Geraghty was happy when assessing the course on Wednesday and Henderson is keen to let his stable star line up after checking on conditions himself this morning.

Henderson said: “They had 10 millimetres of rain overnight, but it’s not heavy ground and we’re going ahead.

“Barry was happy when he walked the course yesterday and I was probably seeing it at its worst this morning. It shouldn’t get any worse than it is today and it might improve, so I think we’ve got to go.

“We need to get a run into him and this is the obvious opportunity.

“We’ve pressed the green button, so let’s see what happens.”

Clerk of the course Chris Stickels confirmed the track was in good shape after the latest batch of rain overnight and was pleased conditions had encouraged Henderson to declare his star chaser.

“The track looks fine. It’s soft ground at the minute after 10 millimetres of rain overnight. It’s taken it quite well and hopefully we won’t see too much more rain between now and the meeting,” he said.

“We haven’t got a large band of rain coming in, but there is always a risk of showers today, tomorrow and Saturday. We are not expecting the same volume of rain again.

“After he walked the course, Nicky Henderson was happy enough to declare Sprinter Sacre.”

HURRICANE FLY is out of the World Hurdle

Willie Mullins has left 8 horses in but surprisingly left the Fly out
even after admitting that Hurricane Fly didnt have the speed anymore to compete with the young guns in the Champion hurdle

He may as well retire the Fly now rather than embarrass him in the Champion hurdle

    • Cooldude 2 years ago

John that’s interesting on hurricane fly. Surely Mullins knows the fly could easily be caught for toe in a finish especially the Cheltenham hill. Perhaps Mullins will hope for soft ground which would be the only hope for the fly

Don Cossack won but we will never know because he is a horse that idles in front “a lazy horse i call them” & that could have gone any way but he won & thats what its about

Have not hamish, was asking for him when I tipped barbs princess last night :-( hope he’s ok

  121. Luke A 2 years ago

No problem mate. I know my tips get overlooked by many still, and rightly so, as I haven’t done well consistently enough, unlike the 2 you mentioned.
I’ve worked out my stats for this month (not including today). In the first 14 days if backing all my bets to 1pt stake, and 0.5pts each way where each way advised, the total outlay would be 53points. The return on that would be 76.7points. So a profit of 23.7pts.
To most, that probably doesn’t sound a lot. But I must admit I’m quite chuffed with that. Only 3 of the 14 days have resulted in a loss. With 1 day breaking even.

  138. Luke A 2 years ago

Thanks DC. I know it probably won’t last much longer. But it’d take a terrible turnaround to make this month end in a loss. I’ll try to remember to update my p/l daily. Much easier that way.
good luck to all with any bets left tonight. Just Boboli Gardens for me. Although Warfare did take my fancy this morning. Fact boz has gone against it makes me glad I left it alone.

  141. Yovan 2 years ago

Haha LukeA, if people don’t aknowledge your winners what chance I got? I know I am new face on the thread, but in last 5 days that I post here I had 4 winners out of 12 picks (and one still to go) and not a single well done. I post them early, but all thanks go to other ppl. Second post on the thread I posted Midnight Belle @ 5/2 and praises go to two other guys who also tipped that horse. I am sure if my NB wins it will be well done Boz. Having said that I know I have to earn my place here, so no biggie.

  142. dawnisrising 2 years ago

Luke A fair play your right up there with the best tipsters on the site….by a country mile

  145. Luke A 2 years ago

Yovan, I am guilty of that where midnight belle was concerned. Apologies for that mate. I think we all tend to look at the usual suspects and their tips more so than looking at those who are new. I guess that’s because we know what to expect of those who have built up a reputation. Well done for midnight belle earlier. That is the only horse I have backed from this site that wasn’t one of my own today. Good luck with your selection in a minute too.
I will keep eye out for your tips in coming days.

  154. Luke A 2 years ago

It’s okay dawnrising, I didn’t win nor lose on that race as left it alone. Deadheat would’ve made it less worthy anyways…well done Alanm. Also well done to EW thief, who I just noticed had no no mac win earlier

  163. johnb 2 years ago

    Clubhouse (NAP)
course specialist winning six times here and five times over course & distance
on a decent mark for a horse that runs well this time of year
decent 2nd last time so looks like he could be coming back to form again

    Singing Star (NB)
Another horse that ran a decent race last time which was after 5 months off so will come on for the run
    stable starting to click now
    lightly raced so still improving
cant see alot of pace in this race so could be a good chance for this horse to make the running & he could get away from these

  164. dawnisrising 2 years ago

Get in there you fu*king beauty absolutely fantastic stuff luke A credit due

  165. Luke A 2 years ago

Apologies Rookie. Seems it’s the ones at very top of the thread are the ones I’ve missed today. I think that’s because I don’t look at other people’s tips until I pick my own. And I then sometimes forget to look at those tips put up before mine. No harm meant. Well done with Berlusca

  166. CloudyBays 2 years ago

Good for you Dawnrising don’t be going on about work all the time so. What flaws a Supreme winner, 50% strike rate in all races, 33% win rate over fences. Those stats should be good enough to win at Thurles FACT!

  167. dawnisrising 2 years ago

  171. ew thief 2 years ago

Well done lukeA nice treble & cheers rookie for berlusca bait time back tomorrow

  172. CloudyBays 2 years ago

Yes Johnb I think he should explain too, can’t see his angle with this. Maybe hes just talking through his pocket after loosing on the Fever today.

  173. swany 2 years ago

Hi guys, see a few of you asking after Dougie, well unfortunately his wife is not very well and he is trying his best to look after her and avoid her having to be admitted to hospital again hence he doesn’t really have much spare time at the moment but hopefully he will be back soon.

  174. dawnisrising 2 years ago

Well i will be honest im not advanced when it comes to the diagnostics of a horse im just terrible at it but i do study for Cheltenham and i remember he was fancied for the arkle last year but i remember jotting down he’s jumping is his let down he fell once before and then in his prep race before the arkle last year he lazily clipped the fence and it pushed his price out after it…but did go very close in the arkle….so i know my limitations when looking at a horse but i can categorically say champagne fevers jumping is his only flaw…..listen im not willie mullins but i know enough but could never tip a horse as id be a let down but i would definitely mention inside information and put it on the thread…

  175. cazzo 2 years ago

That’s exactly why i pick my own horses if they get beat iv’e only got myself to blame also don’t follow one tipster that’s the road to the poorhouse.

PS I did back 2 of johnbs tips when he was ultra confident both gubbed wont do it again i’m sure his luck will change soon KTF

Don Cossack wins Kinloch Brae after Champagne Fever falls at last fence

Don Cossack was 44 lengths clear of the runner-up Texas Jack at the end of the Grade Two Kinloch Brae Chase at Thurles on Thursday but his easy victory came only after a closely fought duel with Champagne Fever, the favourite for the race, which ended when Champagne Fever fell at the last fence with the race in the balance.

Don Cossack is now among the favourites for the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham on 12 March, while Champagne Fever is expected to drop back to two miles to contest the Queen Mother Champion Chase the previous afternoon.

Don Cossack and Champagne Fever were the clear form horses for Thursday’s four-runner race and pulled clear of their two opponents a long way from home as they jumped with impressive speed and accuracy. Don Cossack made a minor mistake at the second-last, allowing Champagne Fever to open a narrow lead on the run to the last, but they took off together before Willie Mullins’s grey knuckled over on landing, which allowed Don Cossack and Bryan Cooper to coast home alone.

The victory was the fourth of the campaign for Don Cossack, who also took the Grade One John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown in December, and with Noel Meade’s Road To Riches likely to represent his owner Michael O’Leary in the Gold Cup in March, the Ryanair Chase is an obvious target for Gordon Elliott’s chaser at the Festival meeting.

“He’s done everything right this year and he had a proper test today,” Elliott said. “It might have been even more of a test than the John Durkan as Champagne Fever is a classy horse. It’s a shame he fell as you don’t know what would have happened, but Bryan thought he had him covered and I was standing at the last and I thought we had too, but you never know and you have to jump. He’s in the three big races at Cheltenham but I’d say all being well it will be the Ryanair.”

Champagne Fever was dropping back to two-and-a-half miles after apparently failing to stay the three-mile trip in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day. He could now drop back to the minimum trip of two miles to contest the Champion Chase according to Rich Ricci, his owner. “I’d think long and hard now about dropping back to two miles,” Ricci said. “I just think the way he runs, attack, attack. What a spectacle seeing him and 2013 Champion Chase winner Sprinter Sacre.”

  177. Luke A 2 years ago

Swany, thanks for the update mate. I was fearing his absence may be due to something along those lines. Pass on all our best wishes please. I’m sure we all hope his wife takes a turn for the better ASAP. Those 2 have been through tough times for plenty long enough it seems. All the best!!

  178. johnb 2 years ago

Champagne Fever fell for the first time today and his jumping has always been good
today he knuckled on landing whether he came down at an awkward angle or lost his footing when landing we dont know

  179. CloudyBays 2 years ago

I agree Johnb I thought his jumping was impeccable today, except for an unfortunate slip at the last. I’m sure Cuckoo and myself will be on him next time.
