Jan 14: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

Racing_WilliamHill

JOHNB is confident of landing his joint nap/NB on Wednesday and making it five out of six this year.

January is a 2.92pt loss but barring a major upset at Meydan our man will be back in the black.

He says: Had to check my stats to make sure this was right and it is. I tipped Cat O’Mountain on this site on January 16, 2014 at 11-4. The odds were available for quite a while but money finally came for him about 20 mins before the race and he won at 6-4.

It was mentioned on the site by others just how easy he won. Cat O’Mountain cruised up to lead 500m out, Barzalona pushed him out for a few strides till he was about eight lengths up and then about 250m from the winning post he eased right down winning by two lengths.

If you haven’t seen the race then I advise you watch it on the link below.

    Cat O’Mountain (NAP/NB)

It’s good to see him back, an old favourite of mine who came 3rd in the 2014 Dubai World Cup

Before I started tipping on here we had some good wins with him at Kempton in a couple of class 3 handicaps
He then went to Meydan where he won on debut but the highlight was his 3rd in the World Cup after being held up near the back and was given far to much to do by Barzalona

On his last run in October 2014 he won the Group 3 Diamond Stakes at Dundalk when rated 111
He may have top weight but for a horse of his class he isn’t giving away a lot of weight to his rivals

It will be hi first run on dirt but this boy is bred for dirt
but can run on any surface.
He does have a 468 day absence to overcome but I don’t double stake a horse for the fun of it

Below is his run in the 2014 Dubai World Cup

      Jarir has diabolical form.
      10th of 13 beaten 11 lengths.
      10th of 17 beaten 9 lengths.
      8th of 11 beaten 12 lengths in a class 5.
This is a crap race yes, but can you really trust this horse ?.
Hasn’t shown anything to suggest he is trustworthy

Looking at finishing positions like that doesn’t tell the real story,
unless you have a top class horse connections like to bring horses into their racing career gradually, this is done in the maiden races till a horse gets its first handicap mark

A perfect example of being able to read a horse and not form,
It’s a coincidence this because I am going back to the same day I tipped Cat O’Mountain on the 16th January 2014

There was a horse running that day and it’s the only time since I have been on this site, that I have told people to have more than just their level stake,
My exact words were “because bets like this don’t come along often and it’s as close to a sure thing as you can get”

The horse in question was RIGHT OF APPEAL
        he was
        7/15 beaten 8 1/2 lengths
        8/9 beaten 14 1/2 lengths
        14/15 beaten 29 lengths

He had been running in 6f races but I knew through his breeding he wanted 1m 4f
So on his fourth run I Napped him 2/1 second favourite and he won by 6 lengths
Everything from distance, surface, handicap mark, trainer form pointed to a win.

As for Jarir he has been gently eased into racing but there are signs there,
He is up significantly in distance and this will suit better, he is on a really low handicap mark and he is bred to love the Southwell surface and I even think the favourite won’t like the surface as much as Jarir

Johnb going by the betting Jarir has lost a leg whats Hannon’s record at Southwell from my memory its not a track i see him having many runners or winners.

He actually has a decent record

            15 runners
            4 winners
            4 seconds
            2 thirds

            Win percentage 26.67%

Yeh thats pretty decent especially considering he doesnt have alot of runners no wonder i cant mind many winners or runners with only 15 in a year.

The 2.50 at Catterick is a race I really like. See a couple of tips on it already but it’s the kind of race that’ll end up with ten different selections on here. At the moment I’m between Silver Tassie, Barton Gift and strangely enough Gorgehous Lliege. One to sleep on I think!

I think betting will tell us alot tomorrow John if its ready to roll 1st time up on the dirt a handicap is obviously not its aim for the season at Maydan some money coming for the other Godolphin runner and Hunting ground has to be a danger with it already having a run under its belt on the dirt.

John im With you on this one the other 3 tippers i like to reference with have all selected the same pick the handicapper seems to have been quite generous and has you say this horse is bred for dirt i didn’t get the 9/4 but got on at 2/1 with hill should be easy money the time off doesn’t bother me his trainer has said he beens going well and has said he believes the hosre will be even better on dirt. will be intresting anyway i also backed promising run in the 3.35 got a good feeling the double will come in tommorow so fingers crossed mate.

I just want to say well done to Chester Racecourse, the smaller racehorse owners need more help like this,
I just hope other courses follow

The biggest appearance money scheme in British racing history is being introduced at Chester with the racecourse on Wednesday committing itself to ensuring the owner of every horse that runs at the track this year will receive at least £400 per outing.

Chester’s move, which follows hot on the heels of significant prize-money increase announcements for Royal Ascot, is expected to cost the independent racecourse in the region of £250,000 and has been launched, in part, as a proactive bid to attract runners who might otherwise have headed elsewhere.

No owner will leave a Chester fixture with less than £400 for each horse raced there, with those who earn place money less than the fixed appearance fee set to have their earnings topped up to £400.

Under BHA appearance money rules, owners will be required to pass on eight per cent to the trainer, six per cent to the yard and a further six per cent to the jockey.

Had the scheme been in place last year Chester, which in December was named the best large racecourse in Britain at the Racehorse Owners Association’s annual awards, would have been required to pay out £158,165.

However, the bookmaker-led additional voluntary contributions, last year used by the BHA to provide prize-money for horses who finished unplaced down to as far as eighth, are now moribund, which will lead to Chester handing out £400 payments that would not have been needed in 2015.

    ‘A pretty special offering’

“We want to be first and we want to lead in the industry,” said Chester clerk of the course Andrew Morris.

“No other racecourse has ever launched an appearance money scheme across an entire season. You can now bring a horse to Chester, have a great experience and even if you don’t win any prize-money, you know you will get £400. We think that’s a pretty special offering.

“We feel it’s important to remember that for the majority of connections their horse does not win prize-money. We also know keeping a horse in training is expensive.

“We want to reward those people who do own a horse and choose to run at Chester. This is an incentive to them.

“We don’t necessarily feel the success of this scheme will be measured by us seeing a huge percentage increase in the number of runners we have in 2016. However, we obviously do hope as a result of the scheme people will choose to run at Chester as opposed to other venues.

“We race on a number of Saturdays that are competitive because of other fixtures taking place the same day, all of which are fighting for the same pool of runners. We hope a scheme such as this will push us forward in the eyes of connections and that it will act as a key driver in persuading people to run at Chester.”

Morris added: “It is impossible to know exactly how much this will cost as we don’t know how many runners we will have. This does, though, represent a significant financial outlay for us and an increase on our current prize-money levels. We would expect the cost to be in the region of £250,000, taking into account what we will lose in additional voluntary contributions previously paid.”

    ROA welcomes move

ROA president Rachel Hood praised the Chester initiative, saying: “Chester has only recently been announced as the ROA’s large racecourse of the year for its exceptional raceday offering for owners. The introduction of an appearance money scheme for all races in 2016 is another excellent initiative.

“Owners often incur significant costs when they have a runner, so offering a meaningful payment to offset those charges provides another reason to target races at Chester.

“The fact is racecourses are competing with each other for runners, and we believe this innovation is exactly the type of thing that will influence owners when making their running plans.”

Chester regular Marwan Koukash added: “For some time Chester has led the way by providing owners with first-class facilities and hospitality. This new fantastic initiative does go a long way towards covering the costs of racing, and I congratulate them for introducing it to British racing. I will have to start sending more horses to Chester!”
