IT'S time to shake off the New Year's day hangover and devour a feast of darts with the World Championships quarter-finals taking centre stage today.
Following the shock defeat of Michael van Gerwen in the previous round, Phil Taylor suffered a similar fate as he crashed to Jelle Klaasen.
So defending champ Gary Anderson is now just 2-1 title favourite at Unibet but he faces a dangerous opponent today in James Wade.
Raymond van Bernevled takes on Michael Smith and Klaasen is expected to make it past Alan Norris.
Tie of the round looks to be the final match of the night with two-times champ Adrian Lewis 13-16 at 888sport to get the better of Peter Wright, a 6-5 outsider at Stan James.

Not a lot of value in anything within the Bama Spartans game… First thought was Derek Henry LAST TEAM TD scorer, that is available at Paddy Power, William Hill and Ladbrokes. Don’t have an account with any of them so went with over 1.5 field goals at evens (365) in the end.
Bama will win this without a shadow of a doubt. They have the best O-line and D-line in the country, it will probably be close for the first quarter, by half time Bama will start to pull away and Henry will wear the Spartans down by the 4th.

Norris has only dropped two sets on route to the quarter finals by defeating Thornton 3-0, Murnan 4-1 and Webster 4-1. The main reason for this has been his relentless bombarding of the treble twenty bed which has seen his opponents struggle to stay with him.. In all three rounds so far his maximum scoring has been consistently high. In the first to four sets format of the last 32 and last 16 he has posted respectable counts of eleven and nine 180’s, so in the longer first to five sets format of the quarter finals, against Klaasen who is also expected to hit big scores, there will likely
be more sets played out between the two and Norris should register at least ten maximums to cover his line.
Klaasen hit fifteen 180’s against Taylor and Norris hit nine aginst Webster in the third round This is a match where both are very capable of contributing to the total tally. Looking at some of the various matches of the quarter final stage from previous years, the target of nineteen 180’s has been achieved several times so I think considering the participants of this match where both are heavy scorers and with it now being best of nine sets, it is a good bet to take.
Wade hit twenty five 140’s but only three 180’s against Caven. Anderson hit seven 180’s, had a 40% sucess rate on doubles and finished on a 101.5 average which saw him blow away Van der Voort 4-0. Wade very nearly conceeded a set to a poor Wes Newton and did drop a set to Caven on route to the quarters. If Anderson displays his usual power scoring of 180’s, 140’s and can maintain a decent checkout percentage on the doubles, he should be able to win the match relatively comfortably so the -1.5 handicap is a good market to use here.

Watching Klaasen dismantle Taylor the other night left me tempted to put a small bet on him taking the tournament. Been a few shocks, esp MVG bowing out. Skybet offering 8/11 on over 17.5 180’s which I think seems a decent one considering these 2 players.
Was also looking at maybe Klaasen most 180’s at 5/6.
My main issue is if I choose my own bet it fails lol.

Yesterday was a really good day, couldn’t tip in play because I didn’t have the time to but GSW weren’t the favourites to win even with a 4 point lead in the 2nd quarter, I know curry and Barnes are out but they are still a good team, maybe GSW can be looked at again against the Nuggets on Saturday if they get of to a slow start, the bookies may under estimate the rest of the squad,

For me this is a steal! James is very much a confidence player, And as Bullseye mentioned. He hit 25x 140’s!!! and only 3 x 180s, That could have been alot difference had a few of them 140s turned into 180s.
He hit 5 against Newton previous.
I understand the line set here, However a player of Wades calibre, in a match at this crucial stage over a much longer match period (Especially if Wade holds throw and wins a few sets. i am confident he will hit the line. Plenty of time

Wolverines have the better coaching and play calling against a Florida team that lost it’s promising QB midway through the season due to using PED. Ohio State on paper should win, talent loaded in every skill position but motivation could be a factor having won it all last year and not even making the playoff this year. I fancy Urben Meyer to fire these guys up with a lot of them playing for draft stock in this game. And Standford, well, Christian McCaffrey. The kid is a god out there and I don’t think Iowa’s offense can keep up with Stanford’s.

Van Barneveld vs Smith could potentially play out like Barney’s previous match against MVG. Smith is a heavy 180 scorer but when he doesn’t hit them in such high amounts they tend to end up as 140’s. Barney is predominantly more of a 140 scorer but this is all dependant on how sucessful his first dart is. Its worth saying that Barney hit seven 180’s but thirty 140’s against MVG in those seven sets of the 4-3 classic and those type of numbers are always going to hurt an opponent. Smith hit twelve maximums against Van de Pas in a ruthless 4-0 victory but against Beaton in round two only managed five with nineteen 140’s. Barney did well to absorb fifteen 180’s from Bunting in round two and managed to just make it over the line in the seventh set. I think 140’s and 134 cover shots are going to be very important in the outcome of this match. Barney has shown he can stay with opponents even when getting smashed with massively big scores whilst Smith has posted 100 averages in his last two matches so all things considered its likely neither player will open up a very large lead and at least eight legs should be played.
Peter Wright is starting to display all the ingredients needed to be world champion. The most noticable thing is that he is now consistantly posting averages over 100. In round one he only dropped two legs to Brown in a 3-0 win. Against Ronnie Huybrechts he hit nine 180’s finishing on a 100 average and in the belter of a match against Chisnall hit fourteen 180’s posting a very impressive 105 average (2nd highest of the tournament) To add to this he also posseses the priceless ability of being able to checkout under extreme pressure. Lewis has won his last two encounters both 4-0 against Gilding and Suljovic hitiing eight and four 180’s respectively. Its fair to say he probably has had to more easier path to the quater finals of the two and he has’nt yet had serious questions thrown at his game which he has overcome. He is known for going off the boil in matches from time to time and this was the case against Suljovic where his range on the treble twenty was not as good so he subsequently finished the match on a 98 average. I think if Wright maintains the consistancy he has shown throughout the tournament up to now on the big scores, cover shots and doubling, he wins this.

Iowa is 2/1 at the moment so price isn’t great though its hard to imagine Stanford not leading at any point so cover price will probably get better in-play, dependent on how much risk you fancy taking.
