Evian Championship

THE last Major of the year on the ladies tour takes place on Thursday in France at the Evian Resort Golf Club.

A relatively short course of around 6500 yards with a par of 71, it is a tight parkland course which relies on accuracy from the tee and good positional strength rather than a power game. As with most tight courses if you do miss the green you need to miss on the right side.

Players to note this week are Georgia Hall, the British Open champion, who followed her win at Royal Lytham with a creditable second in the States after leading going into the final round.

If Georgia shows the same ability and composure as she did coming down the final stretch at Lytham she won’t be far away.

As normal the No.1 and No.22 in the world, Sung Hyun Park and Ariya Jutanugarn, will be there. Park has course form and is in good form generally while I feel Jutanugarn will find the going tough as she did at Lytham.

Former No.1 Lydia Ko has excellent course form is playing well and should be thereabouts on Sunday.

Recommended Bets

  • 1pt ew Georgia Hall to win 22/1 bet365
  • 2pts win Lydia Ko Top 10 finish 15/8 bet365
  • 4pts win Park to beat Jutanugarn 72 holes Match Bet 9/10 bet365

KLM OPEN

The men.s event is the KLM Open in Spijk in Holland. A tricky links-type course of just around 7000 yards.

The course was designed by Colin Montgomerie and opened around 7 years ago and has a large number of water hazards which will come into play if the wind blows.

The weather is forecast to be fine and sunny but if the wind blows which is forecast on Sunday the importance of hitting the greens in regulation is a must so accuracy for the second shot with irons is essential.

A low-key event with none of the European Ryder Cup team playing. Made in Denmark winner Matt Wallace who many thought should have been in the team in unlikely to play this week.

Captain Thomas Bjorn opted for experience over recent form and we all hope this decision doesn’t back fire as it did for Darren Clarke two years ago.

Ryder Cup vice-captain lee Westwood tees up and has shown good form recently only to fail on the final round on the Sunday, Maybe his time will come this week.

Recommended bets

  • 1pt ew Lee Westwood to win 18/1 bet365
  • 2pts win Lee Westwood Top 10 finish 2/1 Betfair
