Feb 9: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

Racing_WilliamHill

JOHNB was left cursing the jockey on his NB Haines yesterday whose poor ride cost him a winner with the horse ending up second.

Our man, now 12.4pts up for February, has a double-stake tip as his sole Tuesday pick.

Johnb’s Tuesday Tip

Southwell 2:45
Sir Pitt 5-1 NAP/NB bet365 william hill (double stake)

SIR PITT (NAP/NB)

Yes, it’s 1954 days since this horse last run on the flat when 2nd in a 1m 7f race on heavy ground. He has run twice at Southwell when trained by John Gosden and owned by the Oppenheimer’s and won both of those races very easily and really took well to the Southwell surface. His two wins came ove 11f and 12f and was rated 68 and 70.

For most of his time over the last few years he has been hurdling and the form is pretty decent, Sir Pitt ran 5th of 23 at the Cheltenham Festival in the 2011 Triumph hurdle which was won by Zarkandar, Sir Pitt was beaten 7 lengths.

He beat a lot of good horses that day, most notably Smad Place, his handicap mark went up substantially after that run which hindered his progress. His latest run was in November but that was after 574 days off and he ran well enough till being pulled up two out “he was still with the leaders till three out” but will have come on massively for that run.

So although it’s been 1954 days since his last flat race it’s only 90 days since his last hurdles race. Oisin Murphy is a reasonable booking but does have a good record for David Bridgwater with 2 wins and 3 places from 8 rides.

      3-05 market rasen
Front running point the way looks over priced to me at odds of 4-1 in a 4 runner affair

David Bridgwater’s overall record at Southwell is pretty reasonable with a 14.29% win rate but it’s his recent Southwell stats that are impressive, in the last 12 months he has had 6 winners from 15 runners here, that’s 40% win rate but his only two runners this year at Southwell have both won

That should have said 2 winners from 5 runners over the last 12 months, my mistake trying to do too many things at once

John Shenton out for the season already real bad news for Castleford .Saying that all teams will get injuries nature of the game .But he is a top player and would be a miss from any team.

            good luck

            • Profile photo of Johnb
              Johnb 10 months ago

Yeah Shenton out for the season and it’s a massive blow but although Shaun Lunt is also injured for the number 9 position I still think Castleford have strength in depth this season to cover it,
Still gets to me though that we are still seeing a standing player getting hit below the knee by 3rd man, it was the same in the Wigan game Friday with Farrell and another player “can’t remember who” we’re going in as 3rd man and hitting the legs,
              the Australians have banned it,
I don’t think the position is Tigers main worry as much as a leader on the pitch, Michael Shenton as captain will be a loss because after he went off I couldn’t see a leader and that told with the final score
I honestly think Matt Cook should be captain but the obvious choice would be for Luke Dorn to step up

As for Centre, well remember this name GREG MINIKIN its his chance now to be a star

Rule – 15.1(i) Detail – A defending player, in effecting a tackle, makes dangerous contact (either direct or indirect) with the supporting leg or legs of an attacking player who has been held in the tackle by a defender(s), and who is deemed to be in a vulnerable position, in a way that involves an unacceptable risk of injury to that player. Grade – B

Tough card today, I like a few of the odds on favourites such as Yes I did at Sedgefield but that’s about it. Watching the market movers, best to go with one that seems popular on here too.

    4.20 Southwell- Divine Touch NAP

1 out of 2 yesterday, 2 out of 3 Sunday and a horrid Saturday. Hopefully provide another bank builder for chelt.

    Outsider of the day:

2.10 Southwell – Claude Greenwood 11/1 each way.

Well drawn in stall 1, and the lowest weighted with a 7lb claimer. Looks like it could have a chance for a place at least. Clock on Tom looks a decent fav, doubt around the jockey though.

    Morning all

Just the one bet again for me and am in agreement with theamazingfrankel on CLAUDE GREENWOOD.
LTO was 3rd over 12f at kempton but was leading at the furlong pole before being reeled in so drop back to 11f looks perfect. Trainer has an excellent strike rate at the track 36% win rate (6 – 16) so knows what it takes to win here. Likes to go off in front so draw has also been kind.
    ew bet for me.

    Best of luck to all

Good morning all racing fans finding it hard to find a winner:

    3:05 “Market Rasen”Onefitzall” 6/4 bet365 P Hobbs/ R Johnson combination should justify favouritism .

2:00 Market Rasen “Kasakh Noir” 1/1 bet365 D Skelton / H Skelton combination it’s a 3 horse race and experience should count pity about the skinny price.

Not alot to look back at Johnb unless youv got different camera angles from the stewards youl struggle to see it. Slow out and slow all race.
Couple of things from your big right up you forgot to mention in flat terms Sir Pitt is a pensioner 9 year old a 9 year old is always going to struggle to come back to anywhere near its early flat form rating you mentioned its only been off 90 days ONLY thats still 3 months we cant even bring in the bounce factor with it being 3 months.
The horse was pulled up last time out you must have been the only person that can see a PU as a good run.

First pick was 2nd and I’ve had a profitable day so I’m going 2 points single on Englishwoman @ 9/4 shows good speed over 6f and I’m hoping her main market rival either doesn’t handle the surface or takes a bit of time getting used to it. Going for an outsider Yisty for the FC.
