LAST week I was concerned about the number of aways on the shortlist and that proved right with just three out of 10 winning.

I plumped for Derby and of course we know what happened there as they threw away a 3-1 lead at Birmingham to draw after conceding a 93rd-minute equaliser. Anyone who knows who to cover meaty singles will, however, have made a decent profit from the game.

This weekend's card looks kinder with five homes on my shortlist. Remember these selections are made without looking at stats or teams news. They are my initial thoughts on sides at evens or above and I'm happy for people to shoot any down or back one up.

Fans of clubs featured are especially welcome to comment.

Super Single shortlist

ASTON VILLA v West Ham

SUNDERLAND v Hull

NOTTM FOREST at Blackpool

LEEDS at Yeovil

MIDDLESBROUGH v Blackburn

CREWE at Bradford

ORIENT v Peterborough

TORQUAY v Bury

DUMBARTON at Alloa

HAMILTON at Dundee

    Sunderland for me.

Why Hamilton at Dundee,Hartley will be appointed today, have easily the best squad in the division and the feel good factor of a new manager coming in. Dundee humped them 3 nil at Douglas park not that long ago, very questionable mr f.

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Stefano, you don’t get it about the shortlist. Read the post – first look, etc, etc and give us your opinion. New-boss syndrome will be a factor if Hartley is appointed in time but in the Scottish Championship anyone can beat anyone in reality and Hamilton are in decent form.

    • robert miller 10 years ago

Stefano… what the bleedin eck has the last performance of any team against any other team got to do with it… in competitive sport you go out there fresh from any previous meeting, stats, and its all about catching it on the day….

    first thoughts Sunderland then Leeds

  4. georgeh11 10 years ago

as a leeds united supporter i’d be careful with us, you never know which side is going to turn up! huddersfield game was a freak result on our part tbh just look back to the sheffield game! shocker!

back in our league 1 days we won all but one game against yeovil which ended as a draw and im confident the boys want another win for the much loved mcdermott so ill be backing them but would not be surprised if there’s an upset!

i fancy forest against blackpool too!

  5. Rob Sutton 10 years ago

The one that stands out to me is forest to beat Blackpool, ill be on forest for sure..

  6. gaza 10 years ago

    Sunderland, Orient for me

  7. Crossanbhoy 10 years ago

Sunderland. They r playing well. Defo not Hamilton at dundee. Far 2 risky

  8. phil 72 10 years ago

Picked out villa ,sunderland, forest, leeds allready for and acca so will be putting some more on now.
    Like orient as well

  9. gaza 10 years ago

    take leeds out

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

      gaza, “take Leeds out”. Why?

  10. Ritchie 10 years ago

    Forest @ evens.

  11. Stefano marsh 10 years ago

All I’m saying is they have played Dundee twice this year and have failed to score on both occasions, acicies have lost 7 goals in there last 2 games and secured 1 pt,hardly good form. It’s only my opinion on one of your choices of a ss. I personally see Dundee as a better option of a ss as they are a better team.

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Stefano, that’s fair enough but they’re not the Super Single choice. You are clearly knew to the site – I always put up a shortlist from my first glance at the coupon and ask people to shoot them down which you have done. Pretty sure Hamilton won’t be the single with Orient, Leeds and Forest my favourite three.

    • Alan M 10 years ago

I was at the Hamilton Dundee game were it was 3-0, wasn’t a true reflection on the game. Dundee scored from set pieces for 1st 2 goals, then hit 3rd in 90minute. I wouldn’t back Dundee at home, even with Hartley as manager, he will just not want to lose the game, maybe have a small punt on Hamilton, think it will be a draw though with the real winners being Falkirk

Mr F I’ve emailed you at about not receiving free bet email, mrfixitstips@gmail.com I sent it too.

      cheers

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Alan, free bets can take 4-5 weeks to be credited. Hartley talking a good game in tomorrow’s papers so might be one to leave alone until we see what effect he has.

    • Alan M 10 years ago

No doubts he’ll have a positive effect but I just don’t fancy Dundee at home, hope they prove me wrong. Hamilton will pass Dundee off the park, just like Falkirk did at last weekend, and with Jason Scotland in there team they have a guy who can score goals when given chances, did really well few years back for St Johnstone in div 1.

Super Single choice would be N Forrest especially after tonights result, Davies has a tendency to get teams motoring just at the right time of the season.

no probs just ignore my email, I didn’t realise it took that long.

      Cheers

    Macclesfield 7/4 to beat Hereford

  13. Sparky 10 years ago

Forest for me but surprised Wigan didn’t make shortlist. 1 defeat in 12 vs a Huddersfield team who’ve lost their last 4!

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Sparky, as I’ve said it’s a quick first look. Wigan could still be the single – so please no one should be surprised about the list. The point is to flag up anyone that shouldn’t be there or give a reason for backing a side that is there.

  14. bixie 10 years ago

wouldnt be surprised if torquays game is cancelled as the weather down there remains shocking.
bloody typical as i’m down there for a long weekend, was hopin to take in the six pointer against bury and northampton, but the word on the street is that bury will be cancelled early on friday and northampton expected to follow on the monday
if it is on, i’d like to think that jesus’ first home game in charge will, indeed, lead to our third home win of the season

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

bixie, cheers, will bear it in mind.

  15. lee cunliffe 10 years ago

I am just picking my weekend bets (whilst at work) and have Leyton orient and Sunderland marked but how about port vale home to Swindon 17/10. Port vale have won 4 of last 6 at home, Swindon lost 4 of last 6 away including defeats to sheff utd and Stevenage plus they play an extra game tonight, worth a look

  16. Scott 10 years ago

For once I’m actually confident about a Sunderland victory on Saturday. Last year after we won the derby 3-0, the next game at home to Everton the crowd was absolutely buzzing and that translated to the performance on the pitch. There may be better value in some of the other picks (not checked the odds yet) but Sunderland seem a pretty good choice to me!

  17. hsta 10 years ago

Man city −1 against norwich at 4/5 with ladbrokes stands out for me but out of the list above I like Leyton Orient.

Possibly worth considering Leyton Orient game to be over 2.5 at around 4/5 or 5/6 in various places

  18. Darren Winch 10 years ago

Sunderland by far sure the odds will shorten come saturday though

  19. Mark1976 10 years ago

Forest gets my vote, very strong at home and are bang inform against a shocking Blackpool.

  20. StevenW 10 years ago

Have to say I’m a bit sceptical on some of these but I do agree with the concensus that Sunderland should follow up their win in the Derby with 3 point against Hull. Just to add a few more in to the mix I quite fancy Walsall this weekend at home to the MK Dons. They are on a reasonable run of form even with the slight blip against Swindon last weekend. The other team I fancy that may complete my treble would be Reading at home to Sheffield Wednesday. Readings home form has been excellent of late and my feeling is they will follow up 3 points last weekend with another 3 on Saturday. For those interested it’s currently priced at 7.75 with Sky Bet as a treble but I would take any one of those on the Super Single.

    Cardiff away to Swansea 3/1

  23. GrahamG 10 years ago

Mark forest might have good home form but they are away to blackpool so it’s different

  24. touran 10 years ago

forest to beat a very poor blackpool side
watch my team boro beat blackpool at there place
    both teams were very poor
boro are not much better at the moment cant seem to score

  25. Sparky 10 years ago

Half time Dumbarton 0 Livingston 0

Very little in this game particularly quality! Looks like 1 goal wI’ll win it! Come on the sons!

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Sparky, probably not as good as Real v Atletico. One Dumbarton goal would be fine.

  26. Ad 10 years ago

Sunderland at home to hull and forest away at Blackpool look like excellent shouts at great odds considering the form. They will be in any trebles and accumulators I put in this weekend.

  27. William Maclean 10 years ago

Dont know about hamilton dundee should be going all out to impress new manager

  28. DJ 10 years ago

Villa must be the one… should be an easy win for villa and i will even go for Villa-1 @ 11/4 for this one.very confident abt thiis.

  29. Rob 10 years ago

Supporting Stoke I wouldn’t normally back Port Vale but I have to agree with Lee that they are very backable against Swindon. The local paper is saying that Billy Knott is set to start and Carl Dickinson is set to return to tighten up the defence. Will be looking at them as part of my treble.

  30. Rob 10 years ago

As an afterthought I’m dubious about Sunderland. Stoke battered them with ten men and were unlucky to come away with nothing. Hull are much improved with Long and Jelavic. I like the look of Villa against West Ham who aren’t the same without Carroll who has a three match ban after failing to get his red card overturned.

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Rob, reckon Sunderland will get a massive lift from the Newcastle win. Long’s OK but the jury’s out on Jelavic.

    • Ryzo 10 years ago

Would take a brave man to back hull against Sunderland. Sunderland are fast becoming one of the stuffiest teams in England. Some big results recently against some of the ‘bigger’ teams and look solid in the middle of the park with Ki, cattermole and now Bridcutt from Brighton. Oshea and ews brown back playing again and Phil Bardsley playing out his skin both defensively and going forward down the right flank with Adam Johnson in front of him showing World Cup form! Sunderland for me.

  31. Ryzo 10 years ago

Mr.F, please consider BTTS in Celtic v Aberdeen this weekend at an unbelievable 1/1. Celtics clean sheets record should end on Sunday with the visit of the leagues best team in Aberdeen who have a cutting edge that other Spl teams don’t. Fraser Forster has made some incredible saves recently in particular away to Hibs at Easter Road 2 weeks ago. The law of averages suggests that someone will score against Celtic at some point and no better opportunity for punters than a cup game against Aberdeen.

    Celtic v Aberdeen

    BTTS 1/1

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Ryze, not only have I considered it – it’s already my headline tip in Saturday’s Daily Record so you read it here first. Aberdeen were last team to score against Celtic and I reckon they’ll end Forster’s shut-out run.

  32. Ryzo 10 years ago

Fantastic, glad we are on the same wave length with this one. Always reassuring.

  33. Rob 10 years ago

Crystal Palace are woth considering as WBA will be without Olsson, Morrison, Anelka and Sessegnon. Like the look of Palace under Pulis and can nick this 1 – 0.

  34. craigyboy 10 years ago

My view on the games I have a better understanding of:

    ASTON VILLA v West Ham
Losing Carroll is a big loss for the Hammers but I don’t share the confidence of a Villa win that is on here. West Ham are buzzing on the back of there last win v Swansea and a great point away at Chelsea.
    Verdict…score draw

    SUNDERLAND v Hull
As a few people have mentioned the ground will be rocking from their result the other day. The danger here is that Hull are a well organised team and now carry a goal threat in Long and Jelavic.
Verdict…Sunderland to shade it but not convinced enough to back it.

    NOTTM FOREST at Blackpool
Forest are in a rich vein of form against a very poor Blackpool team. On paper its a Forest win but in reality it may be tough on Forest who have also played tonight.
    Verdict…score draw

    LEEDS at Yeovil
Early kick off, long trip, blustery, horrible conditions. All factors for me to avoid this one. Conditions could suit Yeovil.
    Verdict…Yeovil win

    MIDDLESBROUGH v Blackburn
Another game on paper which looks a home win. Both teams are out of sorts. Another tight game but Boro should just edge it.
    Verdict…Narrow home win

    CREWE at Bradford
Have been impressed with Crewe recently and backed them to beat a poor Tranmere team a couple of weeks ago and managed to lose. Watched Bradford at Molineux last week. Down to ten men early on which enabled Wolves to take the advantage but Bradford looked dangerous going forward hitting the woodwork twice.
Verdict…Could go either way but I’d fancy BTTS

    ORIENT v Peterborough
Intriguing game this one as I stated last week Orient are due a bad run of results and it may have started last week. Peterborough are no mugs and will be out to prove a point.
Verdict…Again could go either way but its BTTS game for me

Really not confident on any of the games this week.

I’d fancy Palace against West Brom but as a Wolves fan its sod law whenever I back an Albion game the opposite happens.

For me the real standout home game for half decent value is Leicester at home to Watford at 3/4.

As for away I’m looking at Preston away at Tranmere at evens.

My two long shots of the day would be Yeovil at home to Leeds at 12/5 and Ipswich away at Barnsley at 17/11.

    Tough week this week though.

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

craigyboy, it’s a good write-up but I don’t like the “I’m really not confident on any of the games”.

  35. craigyboy 10 years ago

Have just spotted Lincoln at 5/6 away at Hyde. Lincoln beat them 3-0 earlier on at home and beat them 5-1 in the away fixture at Hyde last year. Hyde are this years whipping boys. 5/6 for a team with that recent head to head record against a team with one win all season. Too good to turn down.

  36. Ad 10 years ago

I’m not saying we’ll win, but arsenal @ 12/5 are good value at anfield. when liverpool came to the emirates they were made to look second best from start to finish and it was a very comfortable 2-0 victory for the gunners.

Koscielny and mertersacker rendered Suarez and Sturridge completely anonymous all day long, and I see no reason why they can’t so so again. and if those two don’t play, liverpool don’t play.

liverpools home record this season has been excellent, but if you actually look at who theyve played it doesn’t seem quite so impressive. And arsenals away record is the best around. Liverpool have yet to play any of the top three at home and I think they will really struggle in all three of those matches. they lost all three away, and I believe there is a slight fragility in this liverpool team that gives arsenal the edge. Whereas arsenal have arguably the best centre back paring in the country this season, liverpool have a 48 year old kolo toure….

suarez and Sturridge cannot be ignored, and I expect them to get the home side a goal. Correct me if I’m wrong Liverpudlians, but I think even a liverpool fans honest assessment would be that this is a 50/50 game, with goals very likely, and so 4/1 for arsenal to win and over 2.5 goals looks a good value bet to me.

    But hey, I’m a gooner!

  37. Tim Banton 10 years ago

I’d be wary of Forrest, Blackpool are a bogey side for them. I actually won the super single contest at the beginning of November when I tipped Blackpool to beat Forrest at the city ground.

  38. Troy 10 years ago

The poxy weather is going to play havoc……I’m holding on until Saturday to find out about postponed games

  39. Alan 10 years ago

Brechin at home to east fife. Not quite Evs thou

  40. Troy 10 years ago

Whilst I’m recovering from Man flu I’ve been on a lot of the forums today……

Nottingham Forest will not have a central midfield pairing! Lansbury and Vaughan are out! I really like Forest but against a Blackpool team who haven’t won for 50 years I’d be wary! 1-1

  41. GrahamG 10 years ago

    Arsenal away to Liverpool 9/4

  42. phil 72 10 years ago

Palace have great home form want to see who is playing first good odds to win
    Maybe under goals aswell

  43. Justin bieber 10 years ago

Man city -1, bayern Munich-1,arsenal+1. Around 5-1, should be safe

  44. Justin bieber 10 years ago

Think arsenal are a cracking price at 12-5, plenty if goals in this game, if liverpool can play like Everton game then they should win, but I see arsenals passing game too much for liverpool, with a dodgy defence. I’m willing to take the chance in that price, even plus 1 goal not a bad price
