IT was one of those close but no cigar days with Valencia beating my 6-1 both to score treble and AC Milan downing the 9-2 Top Treble.

I had plenty right but on accumulators you can't afford to have one wrong.

Valencia actually netted in injury time through Mustafi but his header was ruled out much to the frustration of manager Gary Neville who must be close to being axed after the 1-0 defeat at Real Betis.

My 1pt Super Singles both lost – there was no red card at Tynecastle but plenty of bookings – and I tried to find value in the East Kilbride-Celtic match by going Celtic -5.

A 2-0 win was shocking and it's an embarrassing scoreline for a side with Champions League ambitions against non-league part-timers.

Having started the month cautiously some of my profit has gone and this week I'm going back to being careful.

Greg Browning had a cracking day with his nap and NB winning while Jordan wasn't so lucky with his Aussie and Dutch selections.

Monday's pretty quiet with Espanyol v Sociedad and from Portugal it's Sporting v Rio Ave and Braga v Estoril. I've had a quick glance at stats and there's a possibility of both teams scoring in all three although as someone commented earlier both sides are missing key attackers in Felipe Caicedo and Imanol Agirretxe respectively.

It was 3-2 to Espanyol when the sides met in San Sebastian and four of the last five meetings in Barcelona have seen both score with three of them going over 3.5 goals. Five of Espanyol's last six have gone over 2.5 goals as have four of Real's previous six.

Espanyol haven't won in eight and were hammered 6-0 last time out by Real Madrid. They have conceded 19 in six games but three of those were against Real Madrid and Barcelona so a Sociedad side in decent form barring a 5-1 blip at Sporting Gijon will fancy their chances of picking up at least a point.

Sporting's last five have gone over 2.5 goals and they've conceded seven in their last four. That will give Rio Ave hope they can net having done so on their last three visits.

Rio Ave have scored in 19 of their 20 league games including in Porto and Benfica as well as at home to Sporting. Their 10 away games have totalled 38 goals – the most in the league – so while both to score tempts at over evens I'm doing a double on over 2.5 goals and Braga to beat Estoril.

Braga have climbed to fourth with three wins and two draws in their last five and have won three in a row at home to Estoril. In their last home outing Braga routed Rio Ave 5-1 and while this should be a home but there is also a chance of both teams scoring although I'm going for the straight win as Braga have conceded just six in nine home matches.

In Holland Go Ahead v Den Bosch should see both score and I've seen plenty of tips for goals in the French Ligue 2 clash between Le Havre and Dijon.

Anyway the Sporting game let me down but I broke even by backing no goal with about 10 minutes to go. I commented about this but didn't advise the bet as it wasn't sensible cover.

don’t see why people are getting the hump with celtic and ross county.
they both won by 2 goals, through to the next round, job done.
doesn’t matter if they played crap.
once they are 2 goals clear why would they bust a gut to score, 5.6.7 etc, no point.
this highlights the danger of handicap betting over -2 or higher.

Totally agree mr f, even celtics 3rd string should be able to run rings around a none league team just by remaining professional and having respect for fans who pay to watch. You can’t have ambition to be mixing it with the elite and euro but an only beat none league time 2 nil even on a bad day

totally correct..Elvis…anybody who competes at his or her sport will understand …It is a practical impossibility to be at your utmost peak in every event …We all have our off days…..for a start look at the weather yesterday ..I got caught in horrendous weather conditions out training yesterday …..

celtic had something like over 15 corners ,they couldnt put the ball in the net more than twice , kilbride defended well …simple
the fact is delia was never a popular choice and fans have been waiting for excuses to slate him
celtic buy up other teams top players and weaken that team, but they also weaken their own ..coz they aint good enough
      for the champions league.
the corner bet was the only decent bet on this game. [yes i was on over 11 corners]
but some on here got grand delusions of cricket scores ..

Didn’t have time to post yesterday, but thanks @gregbrowning for a great NAP and NB, 3 points safely in the bag.

My own efforts were dashed by AC Milan (5 out of 6 on my Sunday Sixer) and Napoli on a btts and result treble that never got started.

Sunday’s gain pretty much levelled off Saturday’s loss. So we go again for a new week. Need to tot up my months running total….have a feeling I’m a point or two down but nothing that can’t be rectified.

Have a good one everybody ?

Like the idea of Braga & btts Mr F btw, I always peg Estoril as being a great spoiler side in Portugal and I think Braga will have their work cut out but should shade it.

Not sure what to think with espanyol and sociedad. The main goal getters are out as far as I know. Caiceido for espanyol and aggirrtxe for sociedad. Will have to look at team news shortly but think it may well end a draw. Looks a poor card today so best keep it minimal

Hi mr F , quick hypothetical question. If you had to compare celtic to a premier league club quality wise , who would it be and how do you think they’d fare in the epl

    • maccathered 8 years ago

they wouldn’t make it in the premier league, championship maybe or league 1.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

lund89, you can’t compare them just now because they don’t get the TV money which is what allows English clubs to spend big.
Put them on a level playing field with the top teams in England and with the right manager they’d be top six.
Celtic and Rangers have as big a fanbase as anyone but take in a fraction of the TV money all the Premier League teams get.

    • sean567 8 years ago

Agree mr fixit. Even comparing us to small clubs like Norwich and Bournemouth would be hard as they’ve just spent 8.5 and 12 million on strikers. That’s our net spend on half a dozen players.

    • elvis parsley 8 years ago

HArd to compare as the league is so poor quality wise.
Long gone are the days of Henrik Larsson, gazza, etc.
No top class players there now.
Players like Naismith would surely have gone back to Scotland if the standard was decent but chose that powerhouse Norwich instead.

At the moment they would be akin to Sunderland, west brom etc. But if they did get their foot in the door the TV revenue would allow them to invest and grow to be a major force in time.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

elvis parsley, players move for money – Naismith can’t get the wages he was on at Everton and now Norwich in Scotland.
Foreigners now see Scotland as a stepping stone to the Premier League – guys such as Forster, Wanyama, Van Dijk and next to go probably Bitton.

    • maccathered 8 years ago

celtic have a bigger fanbase than liverpool, now you are talking rubbish liverpool are renowned worldwide and could sell 100,000 plus per week no probs,as for top six no chance.championship at best.

re celtic debate…..if celtic were in the premiership . they would start to dominate … within 5-10 years
think about …. celtic are the potentially one of the biggest clubs in the world…
the irish fan base is phenominal… boston new york ..oz… go on and on …
some yankee multi millionaire ..billionare even ..or asian… would see that potential ..and plough the cash into celtic
they would compete on level playing field with the chelseas man u s of this world.. and buy the top players ..
no team can take 80000 to a 2nd rate euro final… abroad ….celtic did. ,,if it was a champions league final …
theyd get ova 100,000 no problem …

when a testimonal is required .. who do they ask for…. celtic….why?….coz they know they,ll get 20 to 30000 fans travelling to the game ..so its a money spinner…thts always been the case…

the english know this thats why they dont want celtic in their league

    ps not a celtic fan

Bear in mind Fans don’t count in the EPL – look at the bottom.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

gg1a, Celtic and Rangers have huge world fanbases but clubs are measured by revenue now and the Scots are small fry.
Sky and some English clubs want them but it can’t happen unless UEFA change the rules.
What will probably come in is some kind of European league.

    • gg1a 8 years ago

mr f, some english clubs are the ones that would benefit from having an xtra 20000 fans in their stadium. the big guns see them as a threat,

old al, its the potential of the club, investment , but its all hypothetical.

    • nathanufton 8 years ago

I’ve always regarded Celtic and Rangers playing at their best as no better than a 6-8th in the premiership and that is if they plump up with some new signings. In the Scottish premiership, its the same year in year out ( apart from the past 3 seasons ) Rangers or Celtic will dominate all domestic competitions.
The money that Scottish football gets via TV is much lower than English football, a vastly lower Scottish population/viewing figures is the reason. Advertisers don’t want to spend big on a Celtic/Rangers match that might pull in a few million domestic viewers which is the clubs bread and butter when they can have say a bottom table scrap between teams desperate for points that might pull in 5 or 6 million viewers. Yes, there are lots of Celtic/Rangers fans and way more Irish living stateside, but most of them do as the locals do and watch basketball/baseball and American footy.

The biggest new market for European teams to find a fan base is in East Asia. The Chinese love betting on ANYTHING and with over 1 billion living in India and the same in China, India’s primary sport will always be Cricket. Look at the past 3 to 4 years and see how many of the worlds big hitters have gone to China to participate in some pi*s pot super cup?? Barcelona/Marseille/Real Madrid/Chelsea/Man City/Liverpool/PSG/Bayern. They’re not going there for a stamp on their passports or for delfies against the backdrop of the Great wall of China, they’re doing it to sell football shirts – why??? because its the biggest marketplace in the world.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

nathanufton, you can’t predict where Celtic or Rangers would finish unless you knew how much they had to spend.
They’ve got everything big clubs in England have except the TV money.
It’s a futile debate because it’s not going to happen.
What’s your thoughts on Clement being sacked?

    • elvis parsley 8 years ago

      Newcastle get 52.000 every week.
      Are they dominating ?
      Enough said.

    • gg1a 8 years ago

elvis wheres the investment? enough said

  24. john smith 8 years ago

That old chesnut…again! The ‘my club is bigger than yours’ argument. Celtic and Rangers have similar sized supports here and worldwide but Man utd and Liverpool defo have more.
There is no way either old firm club will ever play in the EPL, it just won’t happen. Things will actually get worse longer term for Scootish football as more and more money piles into English footy. Eng championship clubs are spending the kind of money the old firm can only dream of, soon league 1 clubs will overtake the OF too.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

john smith, Celtic and Rangers can’t help where they’re based and many League One clubs probably have bigger budgets just now.
With little TV money it’s difficult for anyone to compete with the top English clubs.
In Spain the only way they do it is to unevenly share the revenue and in Germany they’ve gone down the route of lower ticket prices and more fans but they still have a good TV deal. Scotland is simply too small.

    Hello guys,
for first time this year i enjoy to watch man. utd. Great game from the players.

    Just for discussion.

      Correct Score prediction:
      Espanyol v Real Sociedad – 2-2 @ 17/1
2 of the last 4 meetings at Espanyol have been 2-2, with one of the others being 1 goal shy at 2-1. Espanyol drew their last home match 2-2 and they don’t lose many at home so I wouldn’t expect a Sociedad outfit with only 2 away wins all season to take all 3 points. They were thumped in their last away match but previous to that they had drawn 2-2 with Rayo Vallecano a team in the same position as Espanyol, there’s enough pointers in their for me to take a punt on 2-2 at 17/1.

Other predictions (singles, & small stakes doubles & treb)
      Sporting Lisbon to win 3-1 @ 21/2

I have some information about FC Wil and FC Schaffhausen from Challenge League in Switzerland.

This match could look like a narrow win for the home side, but I’m going for a clear victory to FC Wil as the turkish manager Fuat Capa has strenghtend the squad massively.

FC Wil captured the Challenge League top scorer, Jocelyn Roux, from rivals FC Lausanne-Sport before the Christmas break and with André Santos, Mert Nobre and Johan Vonlanthen (former Super League goal machine), they would have what it takes to detroy FC Schaffhausen.

Furthermore, FC Schaffhausen do have important players out injured, including key midfielder Neziraj, top scorer Igor Tadic (9 goals) and they have sent veteran striker Christian Ianu back to FC Luzern as his loan spell ended.

I think the home side will get a comfortable win tonight!

    Handicap (0-1)
    Pick: FC Wil.

Good info Sandercao, any reason you think Wils odds are drifting rapidly?

    • sandercao 8 years ago

      You’re welcome, guys.

I see that FC Wil starts with the expected XI (besides Korkmaz in central defense), and then I see that Kuzmanovic got injured (FC Schaffhausen) early in the game and he got replaced by Farük Gül. Bad news for the away team!

Start of the game has been a little bit messy as expected, but I think FC Wil will win this game after 90 minutes.

    • kyle b 8 years ago

I took Evens on Wil inplay at Bet365, hopefully we will get a more convincing second half from them than the first. Best of luck mate!

    • waystrong 8 years ago

bit of luck on the freekick but we will take it, well done sandercao, did the over 1.5 TGS and -1.5 asian, lets hope hold out for few mins,

    Off to Iceland again….

2 games in Iceland this evening.

    19:00 ko – not so sure about….

    20:00 ko –

    Hviti Riddarrin v Hamar…

Nothing to compare the validity of the form between the 2 teams but what is clearly evident is that both can score goals. Especially Hamar having notched up 19 goals in the last 3 games.

Your looking 8 goals conceded in the home teams last 3 games

I reckon both may notch but I’m taking the below:

    O2.5 goals – 4/11 on bet365 which I think is a gift.

I’ll also wait in play and take o3.5 and also o1.5 fhgs.

I’m sure Hull will be along with his thoughts (which are usually right) but I honestly think this is a beaut.

    • richb20806 8 years ago

I’ll also add that obviously it’s pointless taking 4/11 as a single so I’ll be doubling it (in progress)

Inplay I’m taking o3.5 as a nap (expecting circa 8/11 on the odds)

I’ll take o1.5 fhgs as my NB (expecting 4/5 in the odds)

I’ll then take a speculative o4.5 mgs on smaller odds.

  35. craneguy 8 years ago

last nites nite owl in chile B was a stinker again……..

tonites bets based on mr f’s comments and posts from others

    espanyol o2.5mgs 11/10
    fc wil win&o2.5mgs 13/8
    double 9/2
    Lisbon o2.5tgs 11/10
    treble just under 11/1

GL all with a bet on…………

  36. old al 8 years ago

Little dabble on sandercao’s Wil 1900 doubled up with richb’s Iceland o 2.5 pays 6/4

    • richb20806 8 years ago

I’ve joined you on that mate.

One more bit of history I’ve found is the home team lost 7-2 to augnablik may last year.

Last week Hamar beat augnablik 7-0.

I think we’ll see goals but anything can happen lol

  37. jimmyrunacres 8 years ago

I think we will see a low scoring match between Arminia Bielefeld and MSV Duisburg in the 2. Bundesliga tonight.

    – Bielefeld have scored 4 in 9 home games (Lowest home scorers in the league)
    – Bielefeld have conceded 6 in 9 home games (Best home defence in the league)
    – MSV Duisburg have scored 5 in 9 away games (Lowest away scorers in the league)
    – Only three games at the SchücoArena have seen both teams score
    – MSV Duisburg have only been involved in three games away from home where both teams have scored

I think BTTS No and Under 2.5 goals at 6/5 (Bet365) looks great value.

First time posting my thoughts on a game. Would normally put more of a write up but with only ten minutes to kick off, I thought just pointing out the stats that made me go for the pick was a good idea.

    • nufctipster 8 years ago

Really like the look of this, on it with 2pts, cheers for the heads up @jimmyrunacres

    • jimmyrunacres 8 years ago

As soon as you post it goes tits up! Always the way, sorry pal! Can’t believe there has been 3 inside 30 mins when the home fans have only seen 10 goals all season.

    • -wato- 8 years ago

Don’t let this put you off posting again as you said the stats did back up why you went for this but unfortunately sometimes the stats just go out the window. An early goal when backing the under market can screw the whole thing. I can beat yours I backed a game in Argentina one night a few months ago under 2.5 goals and it was 2-1 after something like 16 mins and was therefore probably the worse tip of 2015 on here!! Keep researching like that though and hopefully you should find more winners than losers mate.

    • jimmyrunacres 8 years ago

Cheers @wato, followed a few winners of yours so thank you for those. Yeah I definitely won’t stop posting, I’m forever doing research so hopefully I can post more winners on here.

    • kingdingaling 8 years ago

kyle b, well done with the Wil bets. Some display by Sociedad too.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

      Late Super Single (1.38pts)
Ahmed Hassan has netted doubles in Braga’s last two home games and I’m taking him at 23-20 with William Hill to score at any time.
Should have checked line-ups – hasn’t started so with Hills bet is void. Will scrub it – let’s start again tomorrow.

    • kyle b 8 years ago

Unlucky with the double tonight Mr F, both sides had chances and it is getting rather embarrassing for Espanyol now. Interesting match up between Valencia and Espanyol in the next fixture with the loser potentially getting sacked!

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

thefourteen, I put 1pt on 0-0 about five minutes ago at 9-10.
Didn’t advise it because it’s not proper cover and I might lose twice.
No stat suggested no goals so that’s disappointing.
      Plenty of corners though (15).

  56. Jordan 8 years ago

Going to try my luck in the AFC Champions League tomorrow morning where I feel there could be some goals. The Chinese are heavily favoured and probably rightly so, but I think the away side could notch a couple goals for themselves. Both sides possess Brazilian strikers, Cleiton Silva scored 25 goals in 33 appearances in his league for the Thais. Shanghai have one of the most prolific scorers in the league over the last three seasons in Elkeson, who scored 59 goals in 62 starts for Guangzhou Evergrande but transferred on the 20th of January 2016 for 18.5M Euros. They also have Ghanaian forward Asamoah Gyan who all punters would have heard of at some stage of their time betting. He only made 10 starts in 2015 after a transfer from Al Ain where he had scored 95 goals in 76 starts over four seasons. If both start they should have more than enough firepower to rack up a few goals against a Thai side who concede against the majority of their sides in their league. SIPG are priced up heavy favourites and probably for good reason. There was a similar match last week when a fairly strong Indian side went to China and lost 6-0 to Shandong Luneng. Again this is without team news so only follow if you fancy it.

    AFC Champions League – 11:30AM

    Shanghai SIPG Over 2.5 Team Goals @ 4/6 @ 365 – 3 points

    Over 3.5 Match Goals @ 6/5 @ PP – 1 point

@mr-fixit derby have parted company with their manager.

    http://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/article/paul-clement-to-leave-derby-county-2946021.aspx

    thought I’d share.

Sadly, I think its the right decision and we need to rejig the way we’re playing otherwise this mini-crisis all be it having 2 draws from our last 2 games on the back of 3 straight losses in all competitions may just be fresh green shoots. My worry is who’s going to replace him??

Paul, was good day out yday, only made half an hr of the game though and left to go to the pub. A few of the guys never got in because they were steaming but that’s what happens when you get the train at 7 in the morning haha. Dingwalls tiny though and was expecting it to be the same size of Bathgate but every pub was stowed wi Rose fans, good day and night plus made it home wi wallet and phone when can’t remember much of the night ?

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

Alves, sounds perfect. When I used to go to places like Forfar, Brechin, Methil and Dumfries regularly they were good days out but I always made the game.
Always drive to away games now because I don’t have the time it takes on the supporters bus which of course makes one or two stops.

mr f, seen your post re Hassan scorer with wh voiding the bet if the player doesn’t start, I’m sure I bet fernandao atgs for fenerbahce against celtic at parkhead on a slip during the day before teams were out and was disappointed when he never started am sure it paid out though, confused now…………..

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

craneguy, some bookies void if a player doesn’t start and some don’t.
William Hill used to void but must have changed their rules – I don’t know when but I’ll find out.
This rules works both ways but it’s better having 90 minutes for a bet to come up than maybe getting 5 or 10.
