I PUT a lot of faith in Ross County yesterday and after a rollercoaster Scottish Cup tie they fell a goal short of landing my handicap bet.
All credit has to go to junior side Rose because the gulf between the sides is huge and I don’t think anyone expected them to score two. To put it in perspective that was one more than Celtic managed in the League Cup semi-final last weekend.
A 5pts double on County -2 and Celtic -3 was advised on Thursday and while that went down I recouped 3.8pts on my other two Super Singles which were Burnley and Aberdeen.
Ross County -2 also toppled the Top Treble while elsewhere my aways treble became a winning 4-1 double thanks to Aberdeen to win and Elgin not to lose and only Cardiff’s failure to score killed the 15-1 homes fivefold.
Greg landed a nice 6-4 nap on an over 2.5 goals double and Jordan’s football tip on Bastia to score 2+ won at 11-10. Scott Alott’s well thought out Euro treble of Atletico Madrid, Rapid Vienna to score 2+ and Rayo to score 2+ won at 3-1.
So it was winning day all round unless you were Desmond – sorry pal. He’s still hiding behind the Bass Rock after both his 2+ picks drew a blank.
Sunday sees what would normally be a big game at the top of the Premier League – Chelsea v Man United which looks a draw – and Bournemouth v Arsenal and two Scottish Cup ties.
I’ve put up a separate preview on Hearts v Hibs and East Kilbride v Celtic and despite how Linlithgow performed at Dingwall I’m confident Celtic will win by at least four. There have been five reds in the last eight Edinburgh derbies and my first Super Single is a sending off at Tynecastle in what could be a fiery affair. A red each pays 18-1 at Paddy Power for anyone who fancies that.
On the continent many of the big guns are in action but that means short prices – Napoli at home to Carpi and Barcelona at Levante being the shortest of the lot.
Barca battered Valencia 7-0 in the Spanish Cup last midweek and are just 1-5 at the likes of William Hill to win in the early kick-off. It was 5-0 to Barca last season and with Levante conceding nine in their last three outings you have to expect over 2.5 team goals at 8-11 with bet365.
Real Madrid are 2-7 with William Hill and others to win at Granada but if you’re looking for a big scoreline remember it was only 1-0 in the Nou Camp. Sevilla face Celta Vigo having beaten them 4-0 at home in the cup semi-finals but they are still without an away win in La Liga and are 7-5 at William Hill.
One team I like in Serie A are AC Milan who are at home to Udinese and I’m putting them on the Top Treble. Milan were superb in seeing off Inter 3-0 in the derby and followed up by seeing off Palermo to make it four wins in five. Udinese have drawn two in a row but before that conceded four to Palermo and Juventus.
In France Steven Fletcher could make his debut after a surprise signing for Marseille. I can’t see Fletcher bringing much to the table and PSG look a decent bet at 3-4 with William Hill as they continue to run away with the title.
Milan start the Top Treble with Ajax at home to a Feyenoord without a league win since December 27. They suffered five defeats in a row before beating Roda after extra time in the Dutch Cup in midweek.
Ajax have stuttered of late with draws against Road and Heracles but they’ll see this as a great chance of taking the scalp of the champions.
Complete the treble with Barnsley at home to Bury in League. Barnsley are on a brilliant run of five league wins in a row and in midweek floored Fleetwood on penalties to reach the JP Trophy final. They face a Bury side who have been shaken up with just one win in six.
Barnsley boss Lee Johnson has quit for Bristol City leaving Tommy Wright (it’s OK Greg it’s not that Tommy Wright) in temporary charge. Players usually react positively to managers leaving and hopefully this shouldn’t hit Barnsley too hard.
