SOMETIMES stats, form and team news don't mean anything. Yesterday all three suggested a win for Groningen at Heracles but in the end the visitors were lucky to scrape a 2-2 draw.
After trailing twice I was happy enough to recoup my stake on the Super Single after tipping Groningen draw no bet.
Someone once said to me the worse the team you predict to win the less chance they have of doing so and I'm seeing with sides such as Groningen and even in the English and Scottish lower leagues that that's the case.
On the upside my African Nations Cup antepost picks Ghana reached the Final with a 3-0 win over hosts Equatorial Guinea so that's an each-way return at least. On the evidence of the tournament so far I have to fancy Ghana to beat Ivory Coast even though they'll be the underdogs.
I backed Ghana to win yesterday but my double was let down by the Ajax-AZ going under 2.5 goals and the result was a shock for anyone who backed the Amsterdam men.
The returned stake on the Super Single keeps the February profit intact and there have been no losers this month.
Games include Deportivo v Eibar in La Liga, Schalke v Borussia M'gladbach in the Bundesliga, St Etienne v Lens in French Ligue, Standard Liege v Mouscron in Belgium and loads of lower-league matches.
Standard have resumed the winter break with two wins and a draw – including a 2-0 defeat of Anderlecht – and should be too strong for their visitors. They're short at about 1-3 but taking them minus one pays 19-20 at 888sport and that's tonight's Super Single.
Standard Liege is at this moment on 5th place in the table, and they have a total of 40 points, they have won 7 points from 3 games after the winter break as they drew 1-1 at Westerlo, and won 2-0 at home against Anderlecht a very good result, and last round they won 3-2 away at Lierse, another solid result for them, and this game against Mouscron should be a formality for them.
Mouscron have lost six in a row in the league with all three after the break being by at least two goals.
My Record columns for Saturday and are written but no rest for the wicked as I'm working on the desk tonight. I have however had time to pick out a Top Treble. I'm going with a straight Standard win, adding St Etienne at home to Lens and in the rugby I'm on Wales -14 to beat England and while I'm not a big rugby fan from what I've read that's the concensus and pays 1-1.

I have a uk and australian account and generally us the uk betting account for matches where i will be awake and can cash out etc. I took Mr fixit super single last night on ladbrokes australia and the bet i placed was what i thought was draw no bet as recommended but the only one that was on was away no bet which i hadnt ever heard off. I’m still struggling to understand why it paid out the full amount. I understand the concept of draw no bet but not away no bet. Anyway it won but I’m clueless as to the bet itself. Much like Monfils Richard Gasquet loves playing in Montpellier, taking the title in 2013 and then returning to the final last season, where he lost to Monfils.
Gasquet has 3 ATP indoor hard court titles and 2 other final appearances, accumulating an excellent career match record on the surface of 86-49.
Istomin had been in miserable form with 5 straight first round losses before this tournament.
Credit to him for reaching this stage, but really he is quite lucky as he was being dominated by Malek Jaziri in the first round before the Tunisian was forced to retire injured, and then he only had to beat 89th ranked Dudi Sela on Thursday.
Istomin generally wins most of the matches he’s expected to but very rarely pulls off the big upset, as is evident by his 1-29 career record when facing top 10 players.
Granted Gasquet isn’t a top 10 player now, but he was just a year ago before sliding down the rankings in a year where his play was hampered by numerous injuries.
Now fully healthy I expect him to return to the level of play he displayed in 2013, and considering head to head he’s won 3 in a row over Istomin and 5 of 6 the odds look great for him to progress to the semifinals today.

As I mentioned yesterday Monfils obviously loves this tournament and with the win over De Schepper he now has a 14-2 career match record in Montpellier
That includes titles last year and in 2010, along with another run to the final in 2012.
Though best known for his play on clay, the flamboyant Frenchman has an excellent career record of 89-42 playing on indoor hard courts, on which he’s won 4 of his 5 career ATP titles and made 5 other finals.
Darcis has won 11 of his last 12 matches but all but 2 of those wins came in challengers or qualifiying matches, all but 3 against players ranked outside the top 100 and 7 of them against players ranked outside the top 200.
After qualifying here he only had to beat 87th ranked Tatsumo Ito and an uninspired Jarkko Nieminen to get to this stage.
This being his sixth match in as many days he should also be getting a bit fatigued by now and I haven’t seen anything in his game to suggest he’s capable of threatening a player the quality of Monfils, particularly considering how much Monfils loves playing here and that the Frenchman has won easily in straight sets in their 2 previous meetings.

These are 2 sides moving in dramatically different directions with Standard Liege going 4-1-0 in their last 5 matches while Mouscron have lost 6 in a row.
Standard may only sit in fifth but that’s mostly due to a poor start in which they only won 3 of their first 10 matches.
Since October 26th they’re 9-1-3, with 2 of those losses coming against leaders Club Brugge and fourth place Kortrijik.
And while they’re only 4-2-5 at home, 3 of those losses came very early on in the season and 3 against the top 4 of the table. They’ve still yet to host 3 of the bottom 4 sides in the league, so that home record is likely to improve considerably when all is said and done.
As mentioned Mouscron have lost 6 in a row, and those came by a combined score of 12-2. having failed to score in 4 of those matches, including the last 2.
Playing away Mouscron are just 1-3-7 for the season, bad news when considering they’ve already visited the bottom 8 teams in the league and still have yet to play 4 of the top 8.
The four away matches they have played against sides in the top half of the table have all been lost by a combined score of 9-1, so it’s hard to see them coming away with a positive result at a very in form Standard tonight.

his is the first time I’ve ever done this with Banker Bets, but after just learning that Gael Monfils is suffering from a rather serious case of the flu I no longer consider his beating Steve Darcis today to be a Banker.
If you haven’t placed this bet yet I would suggest you skip it.
If you have you may want to trade out.
To do so, if using Betfair just place a lay bet on Monfils. Odds haven’t moved much yet so the price should be about the same.
If using a conventional bookmaker you would need to place a back bet on Darcis to cover your liability.
For example, if you backed Monfils for £100 at odds of 1.3 you would now back Darcis for a stake that would cover that liability.
So divide £100, or whatever your liability is, by the odds on Darcis -1 to determine your stake.
If odds on Darcis are 3.4, then 100 / 2.4 = a stake of £41, which would give you a profit of £100 on that bet if he wins, resulting in you breaking even on the match.
Of course if Monfils did win you’d be locking in a tiny loss of 1 percent of starting bank, but that’s easily recoverable with just 1 winning bet and I think preferable to having a full stake on a player who clearly is not at 100%.

Mr.F if you haven’t decided on your super single for tomorrow yet then you should consider Augsburg, currently evens at BetVictor. Nine games at home this season and lost just two of them: A close 3-2 loss to Dortmund which was only the second game of the season and of course the other loss was to Bayern Munich. Anyone who thinks Monfils is ever a ‘banker’ is crazy, whether it was their original tip or not. Tipped against him on the other sports thread and suggested cashing out when Darcis went ahead. And I didn’t get that tip from anywhere else!
